Before discovering her voice through painting, Maria graced the runways of Washington, D.C. and New York City as afashion model. Her early career in the fashion world gave her a keen eye for color, movement, and expression—elements that now infuse her artwork with dynamic energy and elegance. Maria began her artistic journey 23 years ago, following the heartbreaking loss of her brother. In the midst of grief, painting became her refuge—an emotional outlet that evolved into a lifelong passion. She credits her friend Marva, for placing a gift of art supplies in her hands during her grief that set her on this unbelievable journey as a self-taught artist. Her canvases are more than visuals—they're pages of a painted diary, telling stories of love, loss, resilience, and hope.As a breast cancer survivor, Maria has dedicated herself to raising awareness about early detection and using that experience of resilience and strength as a reflection not only in her words but in her vibrant and textured creations. She primarily works with acrylics on canvas, paper, and found objects, often incorporating unexpected materials to bring her emotions and messages to life. Her work has been exhibited internationally, with one of her most cherished milestones being her feature at Venice Biennale Arte in 2024. Through her art, Maria explores themes of identity, family, democracy, and emotional healing, inviting viewers to connect with their own stories through her. Each piece she creates is a powerful tribute to perseverance, culture, and the unspoken beauty that emerges from pain.Don't miss this exclusive opportunity to step into the“catwalk to canvas” visionary world of Maria Lana Queen in the next episode of He Said, He Said, He Said LIVE. Cory George is a Traumatologist and Mental Health Consultant. Trauma touches us all! The word “trauma” literally means wound, shock, or injury. People process experiences differently, and not everyone has the same reaction to any event; what one person experiences as trauma may not cause distress for another. Children as well as adults are susceptible to trauma. Shock, fear, anger, sadness, difficulty concentrating, and a sense of helplessness are common features of the immediate trauma response. However, the effects usually abate over time, and the vast majority of people recover from trauma. Active coping skills and strong social support are important in mitigating symptoms and preventing the longer-term effects of trauma on mental health. Join us for an in-depth conversation about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the importance of understanding, recognizing, managing and coping with intergenerational and cultural trauma. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hesaidhesaidhesaidlive/message
