Read Ashley's work here: https://www.compactmag.com/.../assisted-dying-isnt-freedom/ https://unherd.com/.../assisted-dying-advocates-are.../ Welcome to today's episode of This Is Revolution, where we delve into the complex and often controversial topic of euthanasia. Known by terms such as "Death With Dignity" or "Medical Assistance in Dying" (MAID), euthanasia is increasingly presented as a humane option for those suffering from terminal illnesses or chronic conditions. But is it truly a compassionate choice, or does it mask a more troubling reality? Since Canada implemented the MAID program in 2016, there have been 44,958 deaths under the program, with 2022 alone accounting for 4% of all deaths in the country—a 31% increase from the previous year. This rise in MAID-related deaths has saved millions in healthcare costs, raising ethical questions about the role of euthanasia in society. Does it offer a dignified end for those who can no longer contribute economically, or is it a method of disposing of those deemed unproductive, such as the elderly and those with addiction issues? The expansion of MAID to individuals with mental illness and even "mature minors" has sparked global debate. Critics warn of a slippery slope where euthanasia might be seen as a solution for those facing not only illness but also poverty and other social injustices. Our guest today, Professor Ashley Frawley, has written extensively on the subject. She highlights how some academic papers argue that MAID serves as "harm-reduction" in an unjust world with little chance of improvement, suggesting that allowing euthanasia in such cases might prevent further suffering. A significant portion of the population seems to agree, with one-third of Canadians supporting MAID for individuals whose sole affliction is poverty. Is this a sign of a compassionate society, or are we edging toward a dystopian reality where economic productivity defines one's right to life? To explore these pressing questions, we are joined by Professor Ashley Frawley, who will help us navigate the ethical, social, and political implications of euthanasia. Stefanie Green, MD, was one of the first providers of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) in Canada, when it became legal in 2016. Her book, This Is Assisted Dying: A Doctor's Story of Empowering Patients at the End of Life, chronicles her first year working in the field of MAID. In our conversation, Stefanie reflects on what has changed in her work in the past eight years, the people she's met and how she created a national organization for physicians working in this field. She also shares how this work has shaped her own life and thoughts about death. You can learn more about Stefanie's work and her book at https://www.stefaniegreen.com/

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) is rapidly increasing in Canada. Death with the help of a doctor might soon be offered to those struggling with mental illness, not just physical suffering. Christians must understand what life is and how gives it in order to know how to respond to this evil.
We love Steven Petrow for many reasons: he's funny, he's smart, he's a kickass writer, and he's tirelessly devoted to his beloved family. Sadly, Steven lost his younger sister, Julie Petrow Cohen, to ovarian cancer in June 2023. From all accounts, Julie led a life that priortized joy, professionalism, social justice, and family. In essence, she lived her life in full throttle. At the end of her life, Julie chose when to die, accessing a little-known right in her state of New Jersey to die with dignity -- also known as Medical Aid in Dying (MAID). (MAID is currently an option in 9 states and Washington, D.C.) Steven promised his beloved sister he would write about her experience and choice so that others may learn about and consider this option if needed. In a New York Times article entitled, "I Promised My Sister I Would Write About How She Chose to Die," Steven did just that. The article, not surprisingly, resonated with thousands. Listen in as Steven talks about losing his beloved sister, how their shared experiences and humor bonded them, and what he's learned about the grief journey. Steven Petrow is an award-winning journalist and book author who is best known for his Washington Post and New York Times essays on aging, health, and civility. He's also an opinion columnist for USA Today, where he writes about civil discourse and manners. Steven's 2019 TED Talk, “3 Ways to Practice Civility” has been viewed nearly two million times and translated into 16 languages.
Welcome back to The Day After, where powerful storytelling meets human connection. Today's episode features our hosts CJ and Ashley in an intimate conversation with our guest, Cynthia, who shares her transformative experience with the pathos of life's unpredictabilityIn this deeply moving episode, Cynthia reveals how parenthood shifted her approach to risk assessment, making her more conservative in decision-making for the sake of her children. She expresses the complicated emotions of feeling out of place in widow groups due to her age and experience, providing a different outlook on love, loss, and the passage of time.As we peel back the layers of grief and parenting, Cynthia opens up about the challenge of nurturing her children through their father's absence, examining their advanced emotional responses and her own journey through mourning. The conversation meanders through the landscape of laughter and grief – the catharsis of humor intertwined with the permanence of loss.We delve into the solemn topic of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), as Cynthia shares her candid perspective on what it means to say goodbye under such circumstances, contrasting real-life goodbyes with those depicted in fiction. Her accounts provide a raw look into the aspect of modern medicine that allows for dignity in death but doesn't diminish the gravity of loss.CJ, Ashley, and Cynthia candidly discuss the evolution of self-care, the importance of boundary-setting, and the often overlooked strength found in seeking and accepting support. We run down and Round Up some interesting topics from Canada and beyond. Starting with some history and some weird examples of media in how the woke conquered Canada. The fight over the lab scientists and info back and forth from China. The Conservatives trying to investigate and getting cock blocked. Canada's budget for next election and the money still going over seas overshadow's all the cuts. And extra million going to foodbanks as the economy worsens. We show a deconstruction of the measles fear and propaganda, some clips from the x pharma sales lady. Darren reads bill C63, and we talk about the newspeak and crazy definitions of emotions by the Canadian Government. Will this really be allowed to happen. Seems like carte blanche, and no wonder why everyone is up in arms. Gives them the ability to do whatever they want to whoever they want and we know they won't play fair. A clip on electronic funds transfer hate speec - and this is where we are at in Canada. How can Pfizer be donating to Canada's Dignity in Dying (MAID) and also supplying the drugs to end the lives of these people? Should this be allowed? Now the US Govt is involved asking Bourla these questions. Tucker and Kirsch on the vaccine damage, Makis on turbo cancers, an update on blood clots in kids, and safety signals galore. We end in good news with the abolition of DEI in America, as we seem to be past peak woke/DEI. Hospice nurse and end of life doula Gabby Jimenez of the Hospice Heart shared her thoughts in our great conversation about supporting MAID caregivers, and her new book Dignity Day. Hospice and end of life workers should know what Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) is, regardless of their personal opinion about MAID. If patients and caregivers ask questions, every EOL worker should be able to answer questions and provide resources. Gabby wrote her new book Dignity Day to respond to the fear and confusion that surround the use of Medical Aid in Dying. Here's how she describes the book: “This book is written from my experience as a hospice nurse and as an end of life doula. I have been present for many people who have chosen to do this, and I have seen how difficult and beautiful it can be for everyone involved. This book is designed to offer clarity, remove fear and uncertainty, and give permission to everyone at the bedside to feel whatever they need to feel, but to still stay present for someone they love. I have no intention of trying to change your mind, my intention is to ask that you not walk away. My hope for this book is that it invites healthy conversation, welcomes curiosity, answers some of the big questions, and supports each person by honoring their different thoughts and opinions about it.” Connect with Gabby Jimenez of The Hospice Heart at thehospiceheart.net. Four percent of deaths in Canada are due to Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID). Four percent. The number of people who have used MAID in Canada since it was legalized in 2016 has increased year on year from about 1,000 people in the first year to over 13,000 people in 2022. California, which has a similar population size as Canada and legalized MAID around the same time, has fewer than 1000 deaths per year from MAID. In further contrast to the United States, MAID in Canada is almost entirely administered by a clinician, whereas in the United States patients must self administer. To be eligible in Canada patients must have a “grievous and irremediable” condition, including disability; they do not have to have a terminal illness with a prognosis of less than 6 months. They could have a prognosis of years, or decades. A planned expansion of MAID to include people with mental illness was placed on hold until March 2024. The Canadian parliament will soon hear a report on potentially expanding MAID to “mature minors.” A recent Human Rights podcast discussed the story of a Canadian seeking MAID because he could not afford to stay housed. Today we talk about these issues with Bill Gardner, a psychologist at the University of Ottawa who is living with cancer, Leonie Herx, a palliative care physician at the University of Calgary, and Sonu Gand, a psychiatrist at the University of Toronto and former president of the Canadian Psychiatric Association. We talk about how Canada got to this point, including the degree to which offering MAID to anyone who is eligible has become standard practice in many places. We hear Bill Gardner's experience being told that his cancer could not be treated and immediately offered two options: palliative care or MAID. We talk about the role of palliative care and lack of access for many people living with serious illness in Canada. We go in depth about ethical issues raised by the planned expansion of MAID to people with mental illness. Much of the criticism of the explosion of MAID in Canada is coming from people like, our guests, who feel that MAID should be an option for a select few, rather than coming from under-no-circumstance opponents. To many this rapid expansion will represent autonomy run amok. It is the slippery slope made real. To others MAID represents a seemingly easy and inexpensive mechanism to address failures of the system to address potentially reversible sources of suffering on a systemic level, from difficult conversations at the bedside, to meeting basic needs like housing. When a patient finds out they are terminally ill, with less than six months to live, they may choose Medical Aid in Dying in certain states. In this revisited episode of Beyond the Balance Sheet, Dr. Robin Plumer talks to us about what Medical Aid in Dying is and how patients decide to pursue it. Dr. Robin Plumer says her job is like “a midwife to dying.” She discusses the circumstances where it is performed and the loving environment it can create. Tune in today to learn more about how Medical Aid in Dying works and what states allow this course of action. IN THIS EPISODE [1:51] How did Dr. Robin Plumer's experience in New Zealand impact her work today? [3:37] What is Medical Aid in Dying? [4:40] How is Medical Aid in Dying different from suicide? [8:50] What is the partnership between Hospice and the Medical Aid in Dying doctor? [12:19] What is the personality type of people who choose Medical Aid in Dying? [15:56] What is Dr. Robin Plumer's role in Medical Aid in Dying? [18:11] Is MAID supported in the United States? [19:51] Does insurance cover this? [20:47] Can Medical Aid in Dying be done for those with dementia? [22:56] How does Hospice approach the subject of Medical Aid in Dying with patients? KEY TAKEAWAYS For Medical Aid in Dying, the patient must self-administer the medicine. A doctor can go to the patient's home and mix the medication, but the patient has to drink it or use a syringe to administer it. Medical Aid in Dying allows people to say goodbye to the people they love in their homes, listen to their favorite music, and pass peacefully. It is a loving and intense environment. It's a natural way of dying and is not highly-medicalized. RESOURCES: Beyond the Balance Sheet Website Compassionate Endings N.J. Website BIO: Dr. Robin Plumer has practiced emergency medicine for over 30 years. In 2008, she went to New Zealand to live and work. She continued to work in emergency medicine, but also followed her interest in end-of-life care while working in several hospices and completing a postgraduate diploma in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at the University of Auckland. In 2017, she returned to the US to help care for her father, who had Parkinson's disease. She worked in both inpatient and community hospices in New Jersey for three years and became interested in the passage of NJ's medical aid in dying (MAID) law. Realizing that few clinicians were participating in the law, she decided to pursue intensive study in the field and collaborated with experienced MAID clinicians in California, Washington State, and Oregon. In July 2020, she started a practice called “Compassionate Endings NJ” with a former nurse colleague who shares her passion for very personalized and comprehensive patient care. Since starting their practice, they have attended many MAID deaths, and have become proficient in managing special situations. Part of their mission is to encourage those in the medical community who wish to become involved in MAID by mentoring and teaching.

Welcome to this week's episode of Breaking Battlegrounds! First on the show is Congressman Alex Mooney, Representative from West Virginia's 2nd Congressional District. He'll be diving into pressing topics such as federal spending, the looming specter of a government shutdown, and the pivotal Senate race in West Virginia. Stay tuned as we unravel why this race carries not just statewide significance but also national importance. In our second segment, we welcome back friend of the show, Alexander Raikin. With a focus on medical ethics and a keen eye for statistics, Alexander delves into his latest research, featured in the National Review, titled 'The End of Medicine: How death care replaced health care.' He exposes the proliferation of euthanasia within healthcare facilities in Australia and Canada with reports of silencing whistleblowers, inappropriate discussions about sedating a patient into euthanasia, and the expansion of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) to vulnerable populations, including the homeless and children, particularly Indigenous children. Our final guest of the show is Ken LaCorte where he joins to discuss Lachlan Murdoch, soon to be the new chairman of Fox News. Stay tuned for Kiley's Corner, where Kiley Kipper serves up the week's most intriguing stories. In this episode, Kiley delves into the recent controversy surrounding Dave Portnoy, the President of Barstool Sports, who exposed a Washington Post food critic's eyebrow-raising practices. Uncovering the critic's efforts to engage sponsors by making claims of misogyny and racism, Kiley discusses the implications for journalistic integrity and ethics. She also dives into the gripping Karen Read murder case, where Read faces charges of murdering her Boston police officer boyfriend, all while asserting her innocence amidst allegations of framing. -ABOUT OUR GUESTSCongressman Alex X. It's now a leading cause of death in Canuckistan. Brain Straw has a website Brainstraw.net but I couldn't reach the site for some reason. Anyhow what the hell is going on in Canada? Why is it now pushing to all people to end themselves if they have mental illness which goes into effect this spring. They even let one man end it all because he was poor. The answer is simple. The government has the highest rates of immigration and an aging population and it's going to bankrupt the government and socialised medicine to take care of everyone. So the government is now actively encouraging people to kill themselves. I kid you not and I want to share part of an article so here goes and I quote: "Retired Corporal Christine Gauthier, who competed at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympics, claimed last week, an unnamed veterans affairs case worker had offered in writing to provide her with a medically-assisted dying device. According to a media report by Dailymail, a disabled Canadian army veteran Paralympian has blasted the Canadian government for offering to Euthanize her when she complained about how long it was taking to install a small stairlift at her home. Speaking at the House of Commons veterans affairs committee, Christine Gauthier claimed, “I have a letter saying that if you're so desperate, madam, we can offer you, MAID, medical assistance in dying,” The scandal broke a week after Canada's minister of veteran affairs revealed that at least four additional veterans had received similar offers to use the country's Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) law as a solution to their problems. The promotion of Euthanasia is definitely not a new thing. A few months ago, a secretly recorded audio surfaced in which a medical ethicist is heard raising the subject of euthanasia with a disabled patient, Roger Foley, after reminding him that he was costing the system “north of $1,500 a day.” Foley told the AP that he had never previously expressed any desire for a medically assisted death, and began recording the staff after they kept mentioning it to see if he had “an interest.” unquote. Isn't it awesome to live in a country with socialized medicine where they have to provide service but if you cost them too much they promote the idea that you should end it all. I remember watching videos about Dr. Kevordian in his van going around euthanizing those in pain.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/mgtow/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Watch the latest release and explore the full on-demand library! ____ Following the lead of the province of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick became the second jurisdiction in Canada to adopt a policy of “presumed consent” for organ and tissue donation. Instead of willingly opting in to be an organ donor, residents 19 years and older, with limited exceptions, will be opted in by default. While many see this as a solution to the perpetual demand for transplant organs, laws like these treat the ethics of organ donation as a settled matter while treating humans and their bodies as means to other ends. Even more, considering Canada's policy of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), this step will corrode the already thin ideas of “autonomy” and “consent” while incentivizing a utilitarian view of human nature. For context, Canada has already experienced a dramatic expansion of MAID toward not only those facing a terminal medical diagnosis but also for those suffering from mental illness deemed “grievous and irremediable” (those who suffer solely from mental illness will not be eligible until 2024). In 2021, assisted deaths rose by 35%, reaching over 10,000, or 3% of all deaths in the country. Opponents of MAID, including virtually every disability rights group in Canada, continued to warn that a so-called “right” to die will inevitably devolve into a duty to die. People are seen, both by themselves and by others, as burdens using precious resources better spent on those with better prospects for a “better” life. These warnings were, to put it mildly, ignored. As numbers climb, so do stories of pressure and coercion. Consider the Canadian veteran suffering from PTSD who was offered MAID instead of treatment last year. The presumed consent of the New Brunswick law adds a perverse incentive: the immense value of organs for transplant. The mismatch between supply and demand, not to mention what balancing that mismatch would mean, has always dominated the ethical conversation about organ donation. Currently, over 4,300 Canadians are waiting for an organ transplant, and as a government website states, hundreds “will die waiting...” Canada's end-of-life policies already incentivize death. If donors request death, not only is the difficulty of obtaining consent more easily settled, so is the issue of preserving organs. Law professor F.H. Buckley explained in the Wall Street Journal, Last year … two Canadian medical researchers and a Harvard bioethicist argued that [waiting until the patient is declared dead] could reduce the quality of donated organs. A superior model, they suggest, could be to kill the patient by removing his organs. After all, the best organs come from live people, like those who donate one of their kidneys... [B]y linking assisted suicide and organ harvesting, it ratifies the premise that euthanasia can help create a more efficient organ supply chain. … Where euthanasia is legal, the temptation to link the time of death and the demand for organs may similarly become too strong to resist. On a slow day there's no hurry, but when a patient [who] is waiting for a heart is in the next hospital room, you'd expect greater pressure to euthanize a patient... Medical professionals should not be given the incentive to see their patients as sacks of valuable organs rather than as human beings. The farther the medical world moves from its founding principle of “Do no harm,” the more harm is done. Take for instance China, where one top transplant doctor admitted that “effectively 95% of all organ transplants were from prisoners.” As unthinkable as it sounds, experts warned that these prisoners were likely executed by the means of “organ removal.” Dame Cicely Saunders, founder of the modern hospice movement and vocal opponent of euthanasia, was deeply influenced by Christianity. She once wrote, “The question of how one feels about so-called ‘rational suicide' is, I believe, ultimately governed by the question of how much faith one has in human nature.” Powerful market incentives will only worsen an already epidemic disregard for human life. For Canadians, “presumed consent” is another stage in the downward spiral of a culture of death. If it continues to spread, there will be no opting out. Welcome to PsychEd, the psychiatry podcast for medical learners, by medical learners. This episode covers Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) and mental illness as a sequel to our previous episode on MAiD with our guest experts, Dr. Sonu Gaind and Dr. Jeffrey Kirby. This episode was originated by Dr. Urvashi Prasad for her Grand Rounds. The learning objectives for this episode are as follows: By the end of this episode, the listener will be able to… Gain an understanding of the current state of Medical Assistance in Dying for primarily mental illness in Canada Evaluate the arguments in support of and against implementation of Medical Assistance in Dying for primarily Mental Illness Understand next steps and future directions of Medical Assistance in Dying for primarily mental illness in Canada Discuss the possible impact that Medical Assistance in Dying might have on the profession of psychiatry Guest Experts: Dr. Sonu Gaind who is a Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto (U of T) and Chief of Psychiatry at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and clinically works as a psycho-oncology consultant. As Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) policies have been evolving in Canada, Dr. Gaind has testified in front of numerous expert, parliamentary and senate committees on issues relevant to mental health and mental illness that need to be considered in the MAiD framework. Dr. Gaind chaired the time-limited Canadian Psychiatric Association Task Force on Assisted Dying, was selected to sit on the Council of Canadian Academies Expert Panel on Mental Disorders and Assisted Dying, was retained by the former Attorney General of Canada as an expert in the Truchon and Lamb cases, and chaired his former hospitals MAiD team. He has spoken across the country and internationally on the subject. Dr. Jeffrey Kirby is a (retired) Professor in the Department of Bioethics, Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University. He has an educational background and professional experience in medicine, philosophy and health care ethics. Dr. Kirby has published a set of academic papers in high-impact, international, bioethics journals on a variety of MAID-related topics including: assisted dying for suffering arising from mental health conditions, morally-relevant distinctions between paradigm and non-paradigm MAID circumstances, meso- and macro-level (MAID-related) health policy development, and organ donation after MAID and institutional conscientious objection to MAID. He made several, virtual and written, Bill C-7 related submissions to the Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs regarding matters/issues of relevance to the potential consideration of mental health disorders as sole-qualifying conditions for MAID in Canada. He is a former member of the Expert Panel on MAiD and Mental Illness. This is Garrison Hardie with your CrossPolitic Daily News Brief for Friday, May 19th, 2023. Concordis Education Partners: Classical Christian education has reminded us to aim education at truth, but the trivium has been used as a formula rather than a way of training students in discernment. To teach well, you must coach. Concordis Foundation is offering their third annual BOOT CAMP – a faculty summit – July 11-13th in Moscow, Idaho. This is a three-day intensive teaching training where you learn to coach students, using the trivium, so that you can meet students at all learning levels. Learn more at concordispartners.com https://hotair.com/john-s-2/2023/05/17/bryan-kohberger-indicted-by-grand-jury-in-killing-of-college-students-n551466 Bryan Kohberger indicted by grand jury in killing of college students In order to continue to hold Kohberger prosecutors had two choices. They could go through a preliminary hearing where lawyers for both sides would spell out some of the evidence in the case or they could bring and indictment through a grand jury. Kohberger had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing in June but it appears prosecutors decided to take the other path and make the case to a grand jury in secret. The prosecutors’ decision to impanel a grand jury, however, was not anticipated and allows the state to avoid the week-long preliminary hearing that would have required it to present evidence before a judge as well as permit the defense counsel to cross-examine witnesses. Since January, lawyers, police and other officials have refrained from making statements after Latah County Magistrate Judge Megan Marshall issued a gag order, which is being challenged by a coalition of news organizations… Kohberger has yet to enter a plea, but is expected to do so at an arraignment Monday. Kohberger will plead not guilty. He’s potentially facing the death penalty and, possibly because he was a grad student studying criminology, may believe he can beat the system. However, there seems to be significant evidence linking him to the murders. The knife used in the murders has never been found but a sheath for what authorities believe was the murder weapon was left behind at the crime scene. “The sheath was later processed and had ‘Ka-Bar’ ‘USMC’ and the United States Marine Corps eagle globe and anchor insignia stamped on the outside of it,” Payne wrote. “The Idaho state lab later located a single source of male DNA (suspect Profile) left on the button snap of the knife sheath.” While police were investigation, Kohberger was driving home to Pennsylvania for winter break. Police got a DNA sample from the trash of the family home. On Dec. 27, police collected garbage from outside the Kohberger home. The evidence was sent to the Idaho State Lab for testing and a DNA profile was compared with DNA discovered on the knife sheath. According to the affidavit, the DNA retrieved from the trash indicated a high probability it is from the biological father of the person who left DNA on the knife sheath at the crime scene in Moscow. The other major evidence in the case is the cell phone data. It shows that Kohberger had been in the vicinity of the house where the murders took place at least 12 times in the months before the attack. It also showed that on the night of the killing, Kohberger left his home in Washington after midnight headed toward Idaho. Then his phone was switched off during the time of the killings. Then it was switched back on after the killings and showed him driving back from Idaho to Washington. And he made one more trip. A few hours later, after 9 a.m. on Nov. 13, Kohberger traveled from Pullman to an area close to the crime scene and quickly returned home. On top of all of that, one of the roommates saw the suspect leaving the house the night of the murders. D.M. stated she opened her door for the third time after she heard the crying and saw a figure clad in black clothing and a mask that covered the person’s mouth and nose walking towards her. D.M. described the figure as 5′ 10″ or taller, male, not very muscular, but athletically built with bushy eyebrows. The male walked past D.M. as she stood in a “frozen shock phase.” The male walked towards the back sliding glass door. D.M. locked herself in her room after seeing the male. D.M. did not state that she recognized the male. This leads investigators to believe that the murderer left the scene. What the case is lacking, at least so far, is any clear motive. It’s still not clear whether Kohberger knew any of the victims or why though we do know that investigators have requested the social media information on the three female victims. Search warrants recently executed by Idaho authorities demanded TikTok and Google hand over the user history dating back to January 2021 of three of the four victims: Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, and Xana Kernodle, 20… Retired FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer said the warrants suggest police could be searching for a connection between Kohberger, 28, and his alleged victims that far pre-dates the murders. We’ll have to wait and see what those searches turned up. If Kohberger is arraigned Monday the judge will likely set his trial date at that time. https://www.dailywire.com/news/ex-biden-nuclear-official-sam-brinton-arrested-as-fugitive-from-justice Ex-Biden Nuclear Official Sam Brinton Arrested As ‘Fugitive From Justice’ Sam Brinton, the “nonbinary” activist tapped by Joe Biden for a key nuclear role before he was fired for repeatedly stealing women’s clothes, was arrested Wednesday night as a “fugitive from justice,” The Daily Wire has learned. Montgomery County, Maryland, police arrested him at his home on Wednesday, police logs show. He is currently in jail and being held without bond. A neighbor told The Daily Wire that “four unmarked police showed up last night, they would not let his spouse Kevin leave. After about an hour Sam Brinton was escorted out in handcuffs.” Brinton is set to appear for a hearing before Judge Victor Del Pino on Thursday afternoon. This is a breaking news story and will be updated. https://www.theblaze.com/news/radical-us-rep-cori-bush-proposes-14-trillion-in-federal-reparations Radical US Rep. Cori Bush proposes $14 trillion in federal reparations, says America has 'moral and legal obligation' to pay up 'for the enslavement of Africans Far-left U.S. Rep. Cori Bush proposed $14 trillion in federal reparations Wednesday, saying America has a "moral and legal obligation" to pay up "for the enslavement of Africans." National Public Radio characterized the Missouri Democrat's push as an "effort to see the federal government atone for the practice of chattel slavery and hundreds of years of racist policies that followed." https://twitter.com/i/status/1659175389887864832 - Play Video She added that "America must provide reparations if we desire a prosperous future for all," the outlet added. "We know that we continue to live under slavery's vestiges. We know how slavery has perpetuated Jim Crow. We know how slavery's impacts live on today," Bush added, according to NPR, which also said she cited the racial wealth gap, voter suppression, infant mortality rates, and other negative health outcomes for black people. More from NPR: About three-quarters or more of white adults oppose reparations, and so do a majority of Latinos and Asian Americans. Black Americans overwhelmingly support the proposal, and young people in general are more likely to support cash payments to the descendants of enslaved people than their older counterparts. But more than 90 percent of Republicans say they oppose it, while Democrats are split nearly 50/50 on whether descendants should receive compensation. Bush has been hard at work of late pushing leftist perspectives and policies: She and U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) were the only two lawmakers who voted against a resolution Monday to honor law enforcement; this week is "Police Week." Last month Bush suggested in a tweet that Republicans run on a platform that includes "white supremacy" and "gun violence." In January, she angrily lashed out at black Republican Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida, calling him a "prop" for the GOP and and accusing him of backing a "policy agenda intent on upholding and perpetuating white supremacy." https://www.breitbart.com/health/2023/05/17/poll-28-of-canadians-approve-of-assisted-suicide-for-homelessness/ Poll: 28% of Canadians Approve of ‘Assisted Suicide’ for Homelessness Canada’s National Post on Tuesday published the results of a poll that show nearly a third of Canadians believe assisted suicide should be offered to homeless people who are weary of their lives. A fifth of the respondents said Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) should be offered as an option to anyone, regardless of medical or psychological condition. The poll, conducted by a public opinion firm called Research Co. founded by noted Canadian pollster Mario Canseco, looks like the rapidly approaching bottom of a slippery slope that began when Canada became one of the few countries to legalize assisted suicide for non-medical reasons in 2021. A larger number of countries have legalized euthanasia and assisted suicide — similar but not identical procedures that vary based on how deeply a doctor is involved in the process — for people suffering from severe chronic pain or terminal illnesses. There is constant pressure to “liberalize” the procedure further with arguments that adults of sound mind should be able to request humane medically assisted death for any reason they see fit. In some countries, the requirements for “sound mind” and even “adult” have been challenged. Belgium, for example, allows children of any age to request euthanasia if they have a terminal illness. In February, a Canadian parliamentary committee recommended expanding MAID to allow “mature minors” to request the procedure. Canada lifted the requirement for adults to be suffering from a terminal illness in 2021, and in March 2023 it formally authorized euthanasia for people suffering from mental illnesses, although implementation of that change was pushed back to 2024 at the last minute. Critics of the practice pointed to an explosion of suicides among Canadians as MAID was first destigmatized, and then actively promoted by doctors trained to bring euthanasia up in conversation with patients, rather than waiting for them to make the fateful request. The ensuing surge of assisted suicides was remarkable, as the National Post reported: “While only 2,838 Canadians opted for assisted suicide in the first full year of legalized MAID, as of last count in 2021 that had risen to 10,064 – an increase of 32.4 per cent over just the year before.” When MAID was authorized for people with mental illness, skeptics predicted health officials would see it as a cost-effective method for cleaning out overcrowded clinics. Last August, a Canadian armed forces veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder said he was offered medically assisted suicide by an employee from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs even though he had never expressed any interest in dying. MAID in Canada does not even require supervision by medical doctors, only nurse practitioners, and it is offered to prisoners, a measure even toddler-suicide Belgium balked at. According to the Research Co. poll, 73 percent of Canadians are comfortable with the current state of MAID, and only 16 percent want to put restrictions back in place. The National Post noted a growing number of Canadians across all demographic lines believe assisted suicide should be liberalized even further: Perhaps most strikingly, half of the poll respondents said they were untroubled by reports that people with severe illness are choosing MAID because they cannot obtain the medical treatment they need from Canada’s overstressed socialized medical system. Over half, 51 percent, said they endorsed “inability to receive medical treatment” as a reason for requesting assisted suicide, which will come as grim news to MAID critics who thought killing patients because Canada is running out of medicine would be the last straw. The only place Canada’s enthusiasm for euthanasia appears to falter is the plan to offer MAID to people with mental illness, perhaps because securing legitimate consent from people who are not of sound mind is problematic. Canadian Justice Minister David Lametti said MAID eligibility for the mentally ill was pushed back to March 2024 in order to “provide sufficient time to ensure our health care system fully protects those who may be vulnerable and supports autonomy and freedom of choice.” And now for the run down: https://townhall.com/tipsheet/spencerbrown/2023/05/17/biden-considering-ban-on-chocolate-milk-in-schools-n2623260 As if President Joe Biden and his administration haven't already done enough to make life more difficult and usher in more hardship for the American people, his band of merry muck-ups are now setting their sights on school lunches and toying around with a ban on chocolate milk — as well as strawberry milk and other flavor alternatives — over concerns about added sugars. Yes, the same administration that called it "outrageous" and "immoral" to prevent children from taking life-altering hormones to prevent puberty for the purpose of "transitioning" is worried that milk provided at school might have ill effects on their health. https://townhall.com/tipsheet/rebeccadowns/2023/05/18/marjorie-taylor-greene-files-impeachment-articles-against-joe-biden-and-more-n2623423 Republicans are putting their money with their mouth is when it comes to holding President Joe Biden and his Cabinet accountable. On Thursday morning, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced that she was filing articles of impeachment against the president, but he's not the only one. She's also filed impeachment articles against FBI Director Christopher Wray, Attorney General Merrick Garland, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and U.S. Attorney Matthew, as part of what she is calling Impeachment Week. During her press conference, the congresswoman referred to the Biden administration as "America last" and argued that it "has been working since January 20, 2021, to systemically destroy this country," specifically when it comes to how his handling of illegal immigration. https://townhall.com/tipsheet/rebeccadowns/2023/05/17/nc-legislature-overrides-governors-veto-making-12-week-abortion-ban-law-n2623365 NC Legislature Overrides Gov. Cooper's Veto, Making 12-Week Abortion Ban the Law In a post-Dobbs v. Jackson world, states are considering abortion legislation at an increasing rate. The latest includes North Carolina, where the state legislature on Tuesday night overrode a veto on a 12-week abortion ban from Gov. Roy Cooper (D-NC). North Carolina is a particularly interesting case as the state "experienced a greater spike in abortions than any other state" in the first two months after Dobbs fell, according to The Washington Post. The new law, S.B. 20, the Care for Women, Children, and Families Act, also provides funding of foster care programs, as well as paid family leave and pregnancy resource centers. It's set to go into effect on July 1, 2023. It was previously covered how the state legislature passed the bill earlier this month. While Cooper was expected to veto the bill, overriding his veto was likely but not necessarily certain. Republicans could only afford to lose one member. The bill was able to become law, though, thanks to members who refused to budge, including Rep. Tricia Cotham, who last month switched from the Democratic Party to the GOP, as Madeline also highlighted.

Canada's euthanasia protocol – not merely doctor assisted suicide, but specifically euthanasia – is among the most expansive in the world. The euthanasia program, called Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) was enacted in 2016 and was, at its inception, already broad: in 2021 it accounted for 3.3% of all deaths in Canada, which is over 27 people per day, and eligibility included not just those with foreseeable death but also those with disabilities – like hearing loss. Now, Parliament is gearing up to expand the eligibility further, to include those with mental illness and even minors. For context, this makes Canada more accepting to euthanasia than the German public in 1933 under the Nazi regime. Not to mention, the deeper insidious motivation for an increasing number of MAiD cases in Canada: a social welfare network so threadbare that Canadian citizens would rather die than face abject poverty on top of a shambolic healthcare system. To coin a phrase, what the hell is going on?Alexander Raikin is a freelance writer. He writes about medical ethics, and specifically about the Canadian medical system. He's written on Canada's euthanasia laws for National Review, New Atlantis, the Free Beacon, and others.Download the transcript here.
Is Canada trying to euthanize the mentally ill? Self-professed "theocratic fascist" Matt Walsh says so. So does the OG anti-woke agitator, James Lindsay. Both cravenly distort Canada's proposed expansion of its Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) laws to include people suffering from mental illness. But are they entirely wrong? From the left, Jeremy Appel writes in Jacobin: I've come to realize that euthanasia in Canada represents the cynical endgame of social provisioning within the brutal logic of late-stage capitalism — we'll starve you of the funding you need to live a dignified life, demand you pay back pandemic aid you applied for in good faith, and if you don't like it, well, why don't you just kill yourself?Psychologist and ethics professor Dr. Taslim Alanii-Verjee joins Matthew to discuss the ethical labyrinth of MAiD expansion, and how the altruistic quest for patient autonomy and dignity can run afoul of the neoliberal state's failure to provide the necessaries.Show NotesDr. Taslim Alani-Verjee Federal government moves to delay MAID for people suffering solely from mental illness | CBC News The Problems With Canada's Medical Assistance in Dying Policy Special Joint Committee on MAiD - Dr. Sonu Gaind-- -- --Support us on PatreonPre-order Conspirituality: How New Age Conspiracy Theories Became a Health Threat: America | Canada Follow us on Instagram | Twitter: Derek | Matthew | JulianOriginal music by EarthRise SoundSystem
