They say "don't explain the joke." But what about examining and analyzing a joke from a mechanical design perspective? The titular mecha of Megas XLR is built out of a (surprisingly large) pile of mecha anime jokes and references. Do those elements come together to be a design with its own merit? We're revisiting 'MEGAS XLR', an early 2000s animated mecha series created by Jody Schaeffer and George Krstic. The action-packed animation on this comedy show that takes aim at all kinds of anime trope came courtesy of Cartoon Network Studios, Titmouse animation, and Sunmin Image Pictures. And why are we doing this to ourselves? Well, one, because it's actually a really funny and well-done series, but also because a listener called in to recommend it; our cartoon lawyers say we're legally obligated to cover it. Just happy it's a good toon this time!

We just want to take a minute to thank the FBI, DHS, and NCIS for listening to our show. This episode is definitely putting us on some sort of watch list, and we know you “have” to listen for national security purposes, but we sure do appreciate your ears anyway! So strap in for the ride! No one has ever heard of this show and there’s not much to shake your tail at!
Sometimes nostalgia is good. Sometimes the rose tinted glasses get punched off your face.
For our between-seasons special, we take a look at another great battle between giant robots voiced by Peter Cullen and Frank Welker -- in an episode of the mid-'00s love letter to all things robots, superheroes, and anime, Megas XLR! After accidentally destroying a robotic alien society's sacred monument, Coop, Jamie, and Kiva become prime targets! Can they escape an army of '70s-anime-inspired robots out for vengeance? Will immature misogynists ever be harmlessly funny again? And whatever happened to this show, anyway? Join us this week for the Megas XLR season 1 finale, "Coop D'Etat"!
When the situation is bad, it's time to get rad! When you need revenge, you should attack aggressively, which is exactly what not-Jimmy and not-Bimmy intend to do on their testosterone fueled rampage against their alien bureaucrats. Avoid timed obstacles, fight almost-3D bosses, and generally be a bad enough dude to survive! Double laser download! Show Notes (Notes for the show!) (01:55) Spoilers for Logan if you haven’t seen it and care about those. (03:00) Tyler is talking about the opening cinematic for DCU Online (04:00) Tyler’s still playing Tales of Zestiria. It's a Sorey Storey. (14:00) Fuel is the game Geremy was trying to think of. (17:30) Prolific Voice Actor Stephen Blum (20:30) Apparently the rights to Megas XLR were used in some sort of tax writeoff and a revival isn’t a thing that can happen. (26:30) Top Down levels! Ben and Zane were rooting through the local landfill (like ya do) when they came across a giant robot that nobody had ever noticed before, somehow. They poked and prodded and fiddled with the knobs so much that when a woman from the future came to reclaim it, she couldn't pilot it any more. Now it's up to the Cartoncasters to control it by reviewing old cartoons. But that sounds like work, so maybe they'll just leave the TV on to Wrestlemania while they go out for some cheese steaks.

Colt and Jenn join us to discuss the recent changes to Toonami. We vent our frustations and have a call to arms to keep Toonami on the air. Then we're on to the recap of a pinacle episode of InuYasha and a brief news report for ratings and trending where we laugh at how poorly King of the Hill did direclty after Toonami on the week of the abrupt schedule change. Finally, Steve Yurko returns to the show to discuss Toonami's move to Saturday prime time in 2004. Darrell and Duelist show up in the segment as well as we reminise about a year of big changes, give props to Justice League for using John Stewart for Green Lantern, discuss the fall of Gundam on US television, extrapolate the finer points of Teen Titans and The Jackie Chan Adventures, lament how badly Astroboy got screwed, come to terms with how underwelming Rave Master really was and collectively gush about Megas XLR. 00:00 - Intro / Discussion of Recent Changes to Toonami 50:00 - InuYasha: The Final Act Recap / #ToonamiTalkback 1:06:00 - Toonami News 1:10:56 - Toonami Retrospective for 2004 2:22:23 - Listerner Mail / Sign-Off DISCLAIMER: The views and opinions of the participants of this podcast are not the views of ToonamiFaithful.Com or it’s affiliates, nor are they the views of Toonami, [adult swim], Williams Street, Turner or any other Time Warner property.
