It's here Baggies! Part 2 of Albion's exciting automatic promotion back to the Premier League. After signing Paul ‘Robbo' Robinson in October to strengthen Albion's defence, Megson dipped into the transfer market once more recruiting Mark Kinsella and Geoff Horsfield to bolster an already strong squad. Those signings along with a young “One of our own” Lloyd Dyer proved pivotal to push the Baggies through the Promotion door in comfortable fashion in the end as Megson's men never dropped out of the top two for the rest of the campaign. Hear those last minute winners, more Albion stories, along with audio commentaries of our heroic victories over Wigan, Ipswich and Sunderland that captulated yet another enthralling season in West Bromwich Albion's history books.
Listen to Part 1 of Albion's immediate promotion push back to the Premier League, following relegation in the previous campaign. Majestic wins over Ipswich and Burnley, while producing League Cup shocks at Newcastle United and at home to Manchester United. Megson's Baggies once again showed plenty of resilience and commitment to the cause, as we maintained a top-two position heading into the Christmas period. Plenty of stories, memories and audio commentaries that will keep you on the edge of your seat and in preparation for Part 2.
Back in the top flight for the first time since 1986, Albion were proud as punch to be pitting their whits against the big boys once more and showed it with superb victories at Manchester City and West Ham United. Despite ultimately being relegated, this strong spirited Megson team once again gave it everything they'd got in their first ever season in the Premiership. Another Welsh Wizard is born (see what I did AJ!) Super Bob's final hurrah and so much more as we were voted the best supporters in the country for that campaign. Sit back and listen to me take you through another season amongst the top dogs in English football.
Gary Megson's first full season in charge at the Hawthorns was like being on a dream boat as we showed our credentials amongst the elite team's in the First Division. A team to be proud of that gave it everything as we came within 90 minutes of a Play-Off Final at Wembley, along with beating a Premiership outfit in the Cup. A lovable strike partnership, along with a solid defensive outfit were the keys to Megson's magic potion, as the start of something special was evident during this campaign. Hear how my away day trips start to grow, while revealing who that famous Albion fan was that I sat close by. Enjoy these stories and much more as the start of this glorious Albion journey begins.
Our wettest episode ever features the wonderful duo Megson (Stu and Debs Hanna) walking, talking and playing along the River Tees between Stockton and Middlesborough. This is where Stu and Debs grew up, began making music and fell in love. Their powerful songs tell vivid stories about the industrial heritage of the area through the eyes of the people who live there. With instruments wrapped in bin bags and recording gear hidden under producer Natalie's all-encompassing poncho, we head for the Tees Barrage - pausing under bridges and even on a bandstand for Stu and Debs to perform. Then Stu tells Matthew that if he claps his hands, a seal will arrive. He does - and, amazingly, up it pops!---We rely on support from our listeners to keep this show on the road. Growing up on the streets of South-East London, Dan Megson had a childhood you'd think is only seen in movies. As Dan puts it: "I was kinda f*cked from the start" Dan's story is one of violence, abuse, addiction, no contact with his parents and nothing but the drive to escape.. Not to worry though, it's not a story of doom and gloom. More the opposite. It's a story of a young man on a mission to turn his life around. In fact, Tomorrow (March 2) he will be celebrating 1 year sober Dan is one of the greatest people I've met and I'm not only grateful for his time, but for his friendship As I preach so regularly - "Everything in life happens for a reason" and I believe Dan has wondered into my life for a reason If you enjoy this episode please share it around and don't forget to give me a rating and review on iTunes :) What a story and what a way to celebrate 50 episodes.. Enjoy boys and girls ;) MG

A very important element of your PhD journey is your relationship with your supervisor. In this episode I talk to Dr Chris Megson, Reader in Drama and Theatre and Director of Postgraduate Research Education, in the School of Performing and Digital Arts at Royal Holloway, University of London. Chris has supervised many doctoral students and been awarded the inaugural Researcher Supervisor of the Year prize at Royal Holloway as well as being shortlisted for the national Times Higher Award (2018) in this very competitive category. Chris begins by talking about his own experience of the PhD and the challenges of combining study with full-time work. Throughout the interview Chris stresses the importance of good communication between the student and supervisor. If you are finding communication a challenge this resource might help you: https://www.phdstudies.com/article/How-to-Develop-a-Good-Relationship-with-your-PhD-Supervisor/ Chris talks about how he finds working with doctoral students one of the most rewarding aspects of being an academic. He gives the reminder that your PhD application was accepted because it looked interesting and exciting and the supervisor(s) wanted to work on the project with you! He says supervision “it's not a kind of cross that we have to bear or a burden on our backs. It's one of the main reasons we're in the job”. Chris discusses the importance of having a collaborative mindset not only when developing the professional partnership with your supervisor where, for example, you need to establish timelines that accommodate the demands on both parties. But also of collaborating with peers and other academic colleagues as you enter into the community of the academy. The interview finishes with a reminder to avoid “ostrich syndrome” - keep your head out of the sand and keep in dialogue with your supervisory team. You can contact Chris chris.megson@rhul.ac.uk or find him on Twitter @chris_megson As an extra, here is a link to a playful piece but you might want to take a look and consider what sort of relationship do you have with your supervisor: https://theconversation.com/ten-types-of-phd-supervisor-relationships-which-is-yours-52967 Did you find this episode useful?
