100 darkest moments in pop culture history continues with another black eye for Major League Baseball - The Mitchell Report. This 2007 report was officially titled The Report to the Commissioner of Baseball of an Independent Investigation into the Illegal Use of Steroids and Other Performance Enhancing Substances by Players in Major League Baseball. It's pretty self-evident from the title that some baseball players are going to come out of this not looking so good.

San Francisco Giants legend Barry Bonds and former Red Sox ace Roger Clemens, two superstars dogged by rumors of using performance enhancing drugs, missed being elected in their last year of eligibility. Bonds and Clemens were linked to the use of performance-enhancing drugs through the 2007 Mitchell Report by senator-turned-baseball-investigator George Mitchell. But neither player ever failed an MLB test for steroids and Bonds only admitted to using substances he said he was told were an arthritis balm and flaxseed oil. Join the Killer Bs to welcome special guest Max Bay in Episode 9. While Max is part of Dodgers Nation, he has become embraced by some in the Chicago White Sox community and beyond for his baseball modeling and statistical analysis. He has contributed to FanGraphs and recently developed the Stuff+ model with Eno Sarris. Tune into this episode, as Max and the Bs discuss a few of the latest hot topics for the Chicago White Sox, and baseball at large: Yasmani Grandal is playing poker: Max talks about Grandal's frustrating time as a Dodger and the enigma of Yasmani Grandal's splits. Yaz is getting fewer pitches in the zone, but it does not contribute to a massive walk rate that is probably not sustainable. Max contemplates that Grandal might be approaching at-bats with a no-swing mentality that's tricking pitchers. Listen in for the entire conversation. Dodgers fans are just like us: Max shares the recent ups and downs with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, including season starts with high expectations and love-hate relationships with managers. MLB's recent obsession with sticky stuff and juiced balls: Two months into the 2021 season, MLB has decided to focus on sticky substance usage. Max chats with the Bs about why this is an oversimplification of the issue, and why the timing is less than ideal. Additionally, this topic harks of the steroid witch hunt detailed in the Mitchell Report. Will this sticky substance conversation complicate players' legacies? Learn more about your ad choices. The ALL ME® Podcast University of Waterloo Doping Scandal – Bob Copeland We have all faced tough decisions in our life. In this episode, we interview Bob Copeland who dealt with one of the largest doping scandals in Canadian University Sport, and faced a tough decision because of that. Before Bob's current position at McLaren Global Sports Solution, Bob was the Athletic Director at the University of Waterloo in Ontario. While at Waterloo, he found widespread usage of Anabolic Steroids and other Appearance and Performance Enhancing Substances in his football program. After the investigation, Bob and his team decided to suspend the program for a full year. In this episode Bob tells us his story about what he found, the investigation of what happened, the process behind the decision, the backlash that he received, and ultimately the positive outcomes that happened as a result. When all of this happened we worked with Bob to provide education to his students at Waterloo, and he was also a driving force for us to share this message across many other universities in Canada. We also talk with Bob about his position at McLaren Global Sports Solution. Richard McLaren (the co-founder and CEO of McLaren Global Sports Solution) is a well-known name in the anti-doping space as he was an integral part of the Mitchell Report in Major League Baseball and the McLaren Report on the state-sponsored Olympic Russian doping scandal. They now work together on a variety of issues centering on integrity in sport. Bob has always fought for what is right in sport and is a great partner to the Taylor Foundation. He currently sits on our Board of Directors and was the recipient of Taylor's Award given to those who make an impact in the world of Appearance and Performance Enhancing Substances. Guest: Alastair Crooke. In a recent article, Alastair said: “Theories of human ‘Progress’ as an upward-trending, linear continuum, inevitably leading to ‘a better human end’, though clothed today as technological ‘miracles’, were never empirical hypotheses. They were always concocted myths, answering to a human need for meaning, yet manipulated ruthlessly in the interests of power.” Alastair argues that these kinds of “struggles” have a long and bloody history. Politics in the United States in 2020 have been configured into a crusade against a “cosmic evil” and we seem to be barreling toward a major crisis from which we must not avert our gaze. We go into detail on these topics and Alastair offers an insider’s view of how we got to this point. There is a bonus segment for patrons, Ep 187EXTRA: Underlying Political and Ideological Battles in 2020, about who the key players are in this epic battle, what their goals are and to what lengths they are willing to take all of this. Alistair Crooke is a former British diplomat, the founder and director of the Conflicts Forum, a former ranking figure in both British intelligence (MI6) and European Union diplomacy. and he served as an advisor to the High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union (CFSP) from 1997 to 2003. He was also a member of an international fact finding committee, the Mitchell Committee, which published the Mitchell Report in 2001 on the causes of the Second Intifada. He is the author of the book Resistance: The Essence of the Islamist Revolution which offers strategic insights into the origins and logic of Islamist groups which have adopted military resistance as a tactic. In this episode, we switch the discussion to a new sport and interview Jonathan Coyles, the VP of Drug, Health & Safety Programs at Major League Baseball (MLB). In the early 2000s, the BALCO Scandal implicated a host of MLB athletes which led to a congressional investigation into performance-enhancing drug (PED) use in baseball by Senator George Mitchell. Senator Mitchell's investigation produced a 409-page report informally known as the Mitchell Report. The Mitchell Report detailed illegal use of steroids and other performance enhancing drugs by players in Major League Baseball. It also put forward a list of recommendations regarding the handling of past drug use and future prevention practices. From this report, MLB created Jonathan Coyles role, and he now oversees the league's PED prevention program in coordination with an outside party and the players union. In this interview, we talk about the actions MLB has taken to prevent PED use including its drug-testing and investigative practices and its support for the Partnership for Clean Competition (PCC). You will be surprised and encouraged to hear about the actions Major League Baseball has taken to promote clean sport.

Now the theory is back with an uptick in offense since 2015. Tune in as Ryan Thomas gives his take on the theory.
