The word “Trinity” never appears in the Bible… so why do Christians believe it? In this episode of Ask Dr. E, Michael Easley answers a thoughtful question about the Trinity, early church history, and whether Christians should describe God more “mysteriously” rather than as three persons in one God. Dr. Easley explains why the doctrine of the Trinity matters, why common analogies often fail, and how Scripture consistently reveals the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit working together as one God. Using passages like Matthew 3 and 1 Corinthians 12, this conversation explores how the Trinity is taught throughout the Bible even if the specific word itself is not used. Dr. Easley also explains why rejecting the Trinity leads to major theological problems—including modalism and polytheism—and why the doctrine is essential to understanding salvation itself. If you've ever struggled to explain the Trinity, questioned whether it's biblical, or wanted a clearer understanding of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, this episode will help ground you in Scripture and strengthen your confidence in Christian doctrine. Send a textVideo PodcastFrom experience we have found that when discussing the nature of God, people can become fairly heated. Specifically, who is Jesus. It is a debate that has gone on seemingly from the beginning of recorded history. Early church councils convened only several 100 hears after Jesus came to discuss his very nature. When Jesus was called "good master" he stated "why do you call me good, there is none good but God". Later when the disciple asks to see the Father Jesus says "if you have seen me you have seen the Father". Is this at odds with the first statement? Who is Jesus praying to in the garden? Is there one God? Three Gods? One complicated God that is interacted with in three forms? Different religions and schools of thought exist. From Jesus being on a journey to become a Father himself such as a belief in mormonism or the idea that God exists in different forms but only one at a time. The Book of Mormon sheds some great clarity in this question of who is God and specifically who is Jesus. He is the very Eternal Father. We believe it adds additional light and clarity to the Jesus recorded in the Bible. Part 1 of 2. Send us a textEver wondered how Scripture can say God is one while revealing Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in living, relational harmony? We take on the challenge head-on, not with philosophy but with clear passages that refuse to be flattened into a single-person performance. At the Jordan River, Jesus stands in the water, the Spirit descends, and the Father speaks from heaven—no costume changes, no echo tricks, just the triune God revealing himself in love and mission. From there, we walk through John 14 where Jesus promises “another Comforter,” the Spirit of truth whom the Father sends at the Son's request. The language is unmistakable: three distinct persons acting in perfect unity for our good. We also reach back to Genesis 1:26—“Let us make man in our image”—to show how the Old Testament sows seeds of plurality within the one God, later named fully in the New Testament as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Along the way, we address common objections, including why “Everlasting Father” in Isaiah 9:6 does not erase the real distinction between the Father and the Son.What does this mean for daily faith? Everything. Prayer finds its shape when we come to the Father, through the Son, in the Holy Spirit. The gospel holds its power when we see the Son obediently laying down his life to the Father, and the Spirit applying that finished work to our hearts. A solitary god cannot be love from eternity, but the triune God is love—forever Father loving the Son in the fellowship of the Spirit—and that love welcomes us into communion. If this conversation sharpened your view of God and gave you new language for prayer and worship, share it with a friend who's wrestling with these questions. Send us a textStart with a hard question: when Jesus prays, who is He talking to? We take that question straight to Scripture and uncover a clear pattern across the birth of Christ, His baptism, the transfiguration, Gethsemane, and His ongoing intercession. The threads converge on one reality: the Bible presents one God in three distinct persons, and that clarity is not a technicality—it safeguards the meaning of prayer, obedience, the cross, and salvation itself. We walk through the relational language of the New Testament—Father sending the Son, the Son obeying and saying not my will, but yours, and the Spirit descending and regenerating—and explain why these are not theatrical roles but real personal distinctions within the unity of God. That frame unlocks the power of mediation. A mediator stands between parties. First Timothy 2:5 calls Jesus the man Christ Jesus, mediator between God and men, while Hebrews and 1 John describe His intercession and advocacy with the Father. These terms lose force if the Son is merely the Father in disguise. They gain depth when the Son, truly God and truly man, presents His finished work to the Father on our behalf. We also map the triune pattern of salvation: the Father elects, the Son redeems, the Spirit regenerates and sanctifies. This is the living choreography behind every conversion, a single divine will enacted inseparably by three persons, each acting according to personal properties. Even the Old Testament prepares us for this unity-in-distinction: the Shema's confession of one Lord, the Elohim language of Genesis, and the Angel of the Lord and Name theology hint at plurality-in-unity fulfilled in Christ and the Spirit. Far from puzzle-box religion, this is the Bible's straightforward witness that preserves the gospel's center. If this conversation helps you see Scripture's coherence more clearly, share it with a friend, subscribe for future deep dives, and leave a review telling us the passage that most clarified the Trinity for you. Send us a textEver wonder why Scripture so carefully speaks of the Father sending the Son and the Spirit being sent to us? We walk through the shape of salvation as a triune work: the Father initiates, the Son accomplishes redemption by bearing wrath on our behalf, and the Spirit applies that finished work to our hearts. This isn't wordplay; it is the logic that makes adoption, assurance, and worship hold together without strain. We press into the biblical backbone behind this claim. From Daniel's vision of the Son of Man coming to the Ancient of Days to Paul's language in Romans and Colossians, the texts force us to reckon with real personal distinctions in God. Adoption becomes luminous when a natural Son stands at the center: we are sons by grace because He is Son by nature. Reduce the Son to a mode and you turn sonship into a metaphor and inheritance into poetry. Lift Him up as the eternal beloved of the Father, and the Spirit's witness—crying “Abba, Father”—lands with living power. We also make the case that the Holy Spirit is not an abstract force but a divine person who speaks, teaches, grieves, and intercedes. Treat Him as a mere attribute and communion with God evaporates into theory; receive Him as Lord and He guides, seals, and comforts with purpose. Underneath it all is a profound claim: God is love, eternally. Eternal love requires an eternal beloved, and that is why the Father, Son, and Spirit are not theological extras but the beating heart of the gospel. Join us as we test assumptions, trace the Scriptures, and call the church back to its core confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.If this conversation sharpened your faith, follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave a review to help others find it.Support the showBE PROVOKED AND BE PERSUADED!
Send us a textStart with love that existed before anything was made. That's the thread we pull as we open Proverbs 8, John 3, Matthew 3, and John 5 to explore how the Father delights in the Son through the Spirit—and why that eternal relationship safeguards the gospel we preach. We move from text to clarity, showing how Scripture's demand for two or three witnesses undercuts modalism and anchors the reliability of Jesus' claims. We get practical fast. Questions pour in about the first “light” in Genesis, the Spirit hovering over the waters, and what it really means for Jesus to be at the right hand of God if there's only one throne in heaven. We unpack how biblical throne language points to authority and dominion rather than physical seating, and why the ascended, incarnate Christ sharing the Father's reign is the best news for weary disciples. Along the way, we map Daniel 7's Son of Man, John 1's Word, and Revelation's river of life to show how the canon speaks with one voice: God alone creates, and the Father, Son, and Spirit work inseparably as one God in three distinct persons. You'll also hear thoughtful guardrails for study: how doctrinal errors multiply when the doctrine of God is off, how to test teachings by Scripture, and how analogies like Adam and Eve can help without replacing revelation. The tone stays warm and pastoral, with space for real questions and honest wrestling, pointing you toward a faith that is both sturdy and adoring. If you're navigating conversations with friends or family about the Trinity, or if you want deeper confidence that the gospel rests on God's own self-giving love, this one will steady your steps and sharpen your answers. If this conversation helped you, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a review with the question you want us to tackle next.Support the showBE PROVOKED AND BE PERSUADED!

John Collins and McKinnon continue their in-depth exploration into William Branham's “Adoption” doctrine and its influence on modern charismatic movements. They expose how Branham's teaching of a “word for the age” replaced salvation through faith in Christ with loyalty to new revelation. Drawing direct lines from Branham to the New Apostolic Reformation, they analyze how a theology rooted in mysticism, pantheism, and esoteric thought evolved into the cultic systems seen today. The discussion compares scriptural truth with Branham's distortions, examines the idolization of tapes and prophets, and reveals how persuasive charisma led countless believers to substitute emotional fervor for biblical faith.00:00 Introduction and Purpose of the Episode00:32 How Branham's “Word for the Age” Replaced the Gospel02:25 Cultic Authority and Fear of Outside Information05:20 Doctrinal Problems: Diminishing Christ and Changing the Gospel07:01 Tape-Only Churches and Movement-Wide Confusion10:40 Internal Message Criticism: A Minister Challenges Tape Worship13:25 Emotional Manipulation and the Power of Persuasion17:03 “Not Every Word Is Thus Saith the Lord”: Rising Internal Doubt20:55 Infallibility Contradictions in Branham's Teachings23:17 The Shift Toward Mysticism and Pre-Existence Doctrine29:56 Platonic and New Thought Roots Behind Branham's Ideas35:51 Blending Ancient Mysticism With Christianity38:18 A Different Gospel: Recognition Theology and Loss of Biblical Salvation44:00 Modalism in the Message and the Denial of Christ's Deity51:01 Closing Thoughts and Preview of Next Episode______________________Weaponized Religion: From Christian Identity to the NAR:Paperback: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1735160962Kindle: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DCGGZX3K______________________– Support the channel: https://www.patreon.com/branham– Subscribe to the channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBSpezVG15TVG-lOYMRXuyQ– Visit the website: https://william-branham.org– Follow on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/WilliamBranhamOrg – Follow on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@william.m.branham– Follow on Twitter: https://twitter.com/wmbhr– Buy the books: https://william-branham.org/site/books

Modalism denies the distinctions between the three Persons of the Trinity, so that God is presented as, not a Trinity at all, but rather a monad with three names. Modalism can be expressed chronologically (the Father became incarnate as the Son) or functionally (the names describe activities like Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer), but either way, in modalism the Son IS the Father in disguise, which ultimately denies the real humanity of Jesus Christ and the reality of his passion. One of the doctrines that make Christianity unique is the doctrine of the Trinity. We worship a God who exists as three distinct persons, all having the same essence. In other words, the God we worship is 3 "who's", 1 "what".This can be a difficult concept to comprehend! In fact, for some people it has proven to be so difficult and complicated, that they have rejected it altogether in favor of other explanations that are "easier" to understand. But just because something is "easier" to understand doesn't mean it's true, and that is where our next heresy comes into play, which is "Modalism".What is "Modalism"? Listen and find out! We're excited you're here with us today, let's get into it!
I respond to someone who claims the doctrine of the trinity is heresy
We listen to an example modalism
Do you think most Christians spend much time considering the Trinity? Theologian James B. Torrance (and others) have said that most Christians actually are effectively practicing Unitarians-- that God is a single being-- or some practicing monotheists—that a single God operates in three different ways. Do you agree with Torrance? Join Pastor Chris on this Trinity Sunday as he looks at least one group of people who seem to be obsessed with the Trinity: Muslims. What can we learn from what they say about those of us who believe in our Triune God?
This message discusses the Trinity, and points out were in the Bible we see all three persons. In this passage you will also see a refutation of the trinitarian heresy of Modalism, a heresy that seems to be making a comeback today in many Christian circles.

The doctrine of the Trinity is widely accepted as what the Bible teaches about God. There is a competing view, however, called Oneness. This session explores the origins of the Trinity and Oneness, what they teach, and why the issue is important. Oneness is also called Sabellianism, Modalism, or Oneness Pentecostalism. Oneness teaches that God is one person, not three, and God appeared in three modes or manifestations. By contrast, the Trinity teaches God is three persons that are the one God. Which is correct? In Part 1 (the previous episode, #92) I began to respond to some of the claims made in the One for Israel video called “The Trinity and the Torah, a Jewish Defense of the Trinity”. I noted that the so-called “mysterious unity of (one-God-in-three-persons) is not a biblical mystery, but is a man-made mystery that comes from centuries after the Bible was written, from Gentiles land outside of the Land of Israel. Also, that the idea of agency is a much better way to understand how God's messengers can speak and act for God. God's agents or messengers even speak in the first person as God, as they are delegated and authorized by God to do so. When God's messengers speak, God speaks. In the current episode: 01:00 Appealing to Dr. Benjamin Sommer. The necessity to appeal to Dr. Sommer's ideas for evidence of more one person in God is an admission that the Bible makes no such declaration. 02:47 An example of an essential biblical truth, which unlike the doctrine of the Trinity, is directly and consistently described in the New Testament: that God raised the man Jesus from the dead. 04:54 Since a multi-person God is not declared in the Bible, people, including Gentile Christians, long for some scrap of “Jewish” evidence that God can be multi-personal. This the appeal to Dr. Sommer. 06:06 Who is Dr. Benjamin Sommer? His views on the authority and origin of Scripture, the Documentary Hypothesis, and the Bodies of God. Dr. Sommer's view is closer akin to Modalism or Hinduism. 12:32 Is the Trinity in the Old Testament? What about Genesis 1:26? Does anyone in the New Testament go to the Old Testament to find evidence that God is triune? 14:54 Is the Trinity in the New Testament? Constructing a god from hints and clues, first finding verses that allegedly claim that Jesus is literally a second deity figure. What about John 1? Romans 10:9, 1 Cor. 8:6 - verses appealed in the One for Israel video do not declare that God is triune, and in fact, declare that the Father is the one God. 19:37 Are Israeli Jewish believers in Jesus Trinitarians? Most would say no. The deceptive bait and switch: finding evidence in the Bible that Jesus is the Messiah, but then insisting that Jesus is literally God. 22:40 A Trinity claim is an attempt to denigrate the only True God, the Father. A challenge from Deut. 32:6, Malachi 2:10 and John 17:1-3 For an analysis of the Documentary Hypothesis, see: Casuto, U. If you appreciate this work, consider supporting it - https://www.patreon.com/seekgodtogether https://www.seekGodtogether.com Today we will continue looking at Colossians 1. Verse 19 says, “For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him…” We've been looking at the great and soaring song of Jesus in Colossians 1:15-20. Here we have the extent to which Jesus embodies the fullness of God. It's not most of God's fullness. It's not even almost all of God's fullness. Jesus possesses ALL of God's fullness. There is none of God's fullness that Jesus does not possess. Verse 19 continues a pattern with words like “All,” and “Every,” and “Everything.” Jesus created everything in the same way He holds everything together. There is nothing before Him and so He is before All things. He has first place in everything and in the same way has All of God's fulness. There is nothing Jesus lacks as God. He's not just shy of God's fullness, He's not almost there. He has it all - all the fullness. Of course our minds can't handle the fullness. We're dealing with things vastly beyond us. We ask questions like, “Are the Father and Jesus different? Are they two Gods? How did Jesus always exist? How can the Father be fully God and Jesus be fully God without them being the same? How does the trinity work?” There are theological words that have been developed to help us avoid a misstep. “Tri-theism” is the idea that there are three Gods as opposed to one. This is obviously a problem. Modalism is the idea that God just wears different hats. Sometimes He's the Father, other times the Son, and now the Holy Spirit. But they're all basically the same. Modes. So what's true? We use words to help understand concepts. But if the concept itself is beyond us, then our words are by definition too small in themselves. So any words we use will fall short. But what else do we have? We must press on in the mystery and try. I prefer to think of it this way…there is God. God is invisible, immaterial, powerful and mindful beyond comprehension. This God is unknowable unless “He” creates and reveals Himself. So He did. He revealed Himself as the Great Spirit powerfully creating all things - the Father. But the Father is still distant, Holy, and unapproachable. What can God do about that? He would come intimately close - as a human. All of God in a human - Jesus. All the fullness. And in this way He is revealing more of Himself - what He's like. Where words fail, the very Presence of God is with us. But Jesus is still another human. Close as we can get to a person, they never see our thoughts. They never interact on a spirit level. So Jesus sends God into our spirits - the Holy Spirit. Any closer, and we'd be with God in His fullness - and indeed that is our destiny. But for now, we write and sing soaring songs about Jesus possessing the fullness of God. Take it all in - breath Him in. God is better than You think - closer and more wonderful. Enjoy Him today. Jesus, I can't get enough of You - more - please more. You are what I need.
From popular political commentators like Marcus Rogers and Brandon Tatum or even Christian recording artists such as Philips, Craig and Dean and even one of the more popular pastors in America known as T.D. Defenders: Doctrine of God: Trinity (Part 6): Historical Survey (2) | Modalism
In today's episode, the guys discuss the Trinity. Part of knowing God is knowing the Trinity. People often think of the Trinity as a box to check rather than diving into learning about the details of it. Part of becoming a Christian is knowing the beauty, goodness, and glory of God. We can do this when we know God as the trinitarian He is. It can be easy to get caught up in knowing every detail about the Trinity, but we must remember that to truly love God is simply to gaze upon His beauty. An accurate view of the God as Trinity is the foundation upon which we can worship each of the 3 persons of the Godhead. To worship God correctly is to worship who He is exactly. The Trinity is not an easy concept to wrap our minds around, but we must yield to Scripture rather than to what we feel. James White shares that the Trinity is found in the gutter of the Bible, right between the Old and New Testament. In this section, people experienced the power of the Holy Spirit and were steeped in trinitarian doctrine. The distinct word “Trinity” was never actually used in the Bible, but trinitarian language is used all throughout. Though Scripture states that there is only one God, it also refers to three distinctly different persons that are called God. There is one divine nature and substance of God, but 3 divine persons who form this interrelated God. It has been said that you can only trust someone as much as you truly know them. When we intermix all of the different attributes displayed by God, we begin to form a clear picture of who He is. If we are going to make any pursuit in life, why not make it to know God better? The Trinity is something we need to deal with regularly to really know Him. Modalism, the doctrine that God is a person who manifests Himself in 3 different ways, is the biggest misconception of the Trinity. It is crucial to understand that Jesus is not half human, half divine. Since there is nothing quite like the Trinity, it can be difficult to explain. In closing, listeners are urged to examine the Scripture and be committed to it. Thanks for listening! He has no greater function than the Other Members of the Trinity. He has different functions. God the Father was there in the process of creation (Genesis 1; 1:26). Jesus makes many references to His, or our, Father in Heaven (Matthew 5-7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 20, 23, 24, 25, 26, 28; Mark 8, 11, 13, 14; Luke 2, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 22, 23, 24; John 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20). God speaks from Heaven referring to Jesus as His son in whom He is well pleased (Matthew 3:13-17; Luke 3:21-22).Jesus ChristJesus Christ, the second member of the Trinity, is God's only begotten Son (John 3:16; Colossians 1:15). He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary (Luke 1:30-35; John 1:14). He is fully God (John 1:1-3, 14; Colossians 1:15-16) and fully Man! He lived a sinless life (Hebrews 4:15), which allowed Him to serve as the Only Sacrifice worthy of meeting the Holy Standards of a Just and Righteous God (Hebrews 9:13-26). Jesus willfully died on the Cross as the substitute for those incapable of paying the penalty for their sins (Matthew 27:50; John 19:30; Romans 5:8). He arose bodily from the dead (Matthew 28:2-6; John 20:20). He ascended into heaven (Acts 1:9 ) to return at the God-ordained time. The Holy SpiritThe Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity (Matthew 3:16, 17; 28:19). He is active in the regeneration of the believer (John 14:16, 26; Acts 5:3-4; Titus 3:5) which is also referred to the process of sanctification. He indwells every believer (Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Galatians 5:16, 18; Ephesians 1:13) conforming and transforming them into the image of Christ.

Have you heard of oneness theology? Also called "Jesus only," this is the idea that Jesus is all there is. Jesus is the Father; Jesus is the Holy Spirit. Jesus has manifested himself in many ways over the years, but there is only one individual or self who is God. Although not exclusive to the Pentecostal movement, most oneness believers belong to charismatic (or apostolic) groups today. This is a classic message given by Pastor J. Dan Gill in the early 2000s. I remember sitting there in the audience listening to him share about his community's journey of faith and thinking to myself, "Wow, he's my people!" Whether you currently hold oneness theology or not, take a listen to Brother Gill's testimony and see you what you think. This week we continue the "Through Nicaea" series and move onto the next section of the creed of 381. In this episode we cover, "The Father." In discussing this line of the creed we will focus on the relationship between the Father and the Son. This episode will not go into generation, that will have its own set of episodes (namely on the “begotten, not made” clause), but it will establish some key points. We'll also have two applications in this episode: Children of God and Modalism.
