Episode 188 hosts Dr Jake Sloane & David Segal, your hosts of Inside Aesthetics. In this episode Dr Jake & David explore 'The Future Of Aesthetics', a report commisioned by Allergan Aesthetics in 2021. The evolution of our industry continues to accelerate, with new products continuing to be released and injectables becoming more mainstream year on year. But what may surprise injectors and consumers alike is that our market is still very under-penetrated. The report was compiled by interviewing 15 global KOL's and working with Wunderman Thompson Intelligence, a market research company who specialise in future trends. The goal of the report aimed to uncover cultural shifts in aesthetics. Like the beauty and fashion industries, societal views change and have a direct impact on how aesthetics is perceived, accepted and consumed. By understanding and anticipating how the world's behavior is evolving, clinics and injectors will be able to better meet the needs of their patients today and into the future. We explore all ten chapters of the report including: 1) Diverse Individuality: How & why aesthetics must become more inclusive for patients of all ethnicities 2) The New Masculine: the evolution of male attitiudes to aesthetics 3) Gender Inclusive Beauty: How aesthetics can cater for those identify anywhere on the gender spectrum 4) Ephemeral Expression: The new concept of transient & short-term beauty outcomes 5) Elevated Experiences: How clinics might approach & elevate the customers experience 6) New Body Frontiers: Discussing body treatments & how to incorporate these into aesthetic clinics 7) Aesth-Ethics: The responsibility that injectors have for the messages that they promote to the public & the issue of counterfeit goods 8) The Digital Lens: Whether life lived through phones and laptops is warping our reality 9) Aesthetics & the Metaverse: The concept of patients and clinics interating in the new virtual reality 10) The End of Aging: Are we only at the tip of the iceberg in terms of using injectables for our patients?   Want to read the entire Future of Aesthetics report? Debo sólo a mis impertinencias tus desvelos y arrebatos.

In this episode, co-hosts Natalie Smith and Maxximilian Seijo argue that the pandemic not only killed neoliberalism as a tacit ideological formation; it also revealed how neoliberal truisms have never captured the actual causal mechanisms and potentials that defined the past 50 years. Fleshing out these claims, Naty and Maxx journey through the work of rockstar economic historian Adam Tooze, focusing in particular on his widely-hailed recent book, Shutdown: How Covid Shook the World's Economy (2021). Naty and Maxx affirm Tooze's characteristically thorough demonstration of the myriad ways that the world-wide response to the pandemic, however inadequate, dismantled the pillars of neoliberal governance. Yet they also critique the elitist complicity of Tooze's methodological commitment to historical immanence and inevitability, tracing such impulses to back to John Maynard Keynes' fatal dismissal of Abba Lerner's proposal to do away with balanced budgets and revenue-constraints. For the Superstructure crew, by contrast, proceeding “in medias res,” as Tooze puts it, requires an abolitionist attunement to genuine conditions of injustice and possibility, from #Defund and ongoing labor strikes to contests over #MintTheCoin and the Green New Deal.
