Cobra Kai alum and rising star Gianni DeCenzo joins us this week to talk all things acting! It's Actors With Issues, what else would we do? Gianni began his career at just eight years old, booking roles in commercials and co-starring roles in television series like The Middle, The League, and Disney Channel series Liv and Maddie. Since 2018, Gianni has starred in the hit action dramedy series Cobra Kai as Demetri where he was able to use his own martial arts skills in Krav Maga. This episode focuses a lot on transitioning, growing and learning as Gianni chats with us about his work as a child actor and shifting his career as a young adult, what his experience was like working on Cobra Kai when it was a YouTube Red series which was then bought by Netflix during the pandemic, and how the industry has changed in recent years, from streaming and content creating to self-tapes and Zoom auditions. “We didn't really get to see the audience and fans' reactions to things in public, we were kind of sheltered from that. It wasn't until COVID died down and we were able to do premieres for the show that we really saw that not only did we have our extremely loyal fanbase from YouTube, but it had spread everywhere. I wasn't expecting the show to blow up as much as it did when I first auditioned for it, I was 15. It just took off and it's been awesome.”

To paraphrase Mr. Miyagi from the 1984 classic film “The Karate Kid”, “there's no such thing as a bad student; only a bad teacher.” Now hear us out. While we here at the GLG avoid shame & blame where teachers are concerned, we can all admit that some lessons are certainly more engaging than others! But why? And what does engagement really even mean? We're here to discuss this concept in our very favorite way - using a metaphoric lens. This time, we've set Karate Kid and Netflix's Cobra Kai in our sights; so join us for another 2-part series for what we hope will be an “engaging” conversation.
So here we go 'round(kick) again! Rodney and Sean watched the entire fifth season of COBRA KAI, and Jay only watched the last episode. How much did Jay miss, and how much did Jay pick up on? Listen to find out!

Xolo Maridueña has possibly been a part of hip-hop history since before he was born, as his mother has great ties with our radio family and although the culture may have influenced his come up, the 20-year-old is now setting out to make his own mark in history. As the actor has already made noise with his roles as Miguel Diaz in the Netflix series "Cobra Kai," and as Victor Graham in the television series "Parenthood," Xolo is gearing up to take on a pivoting role as Jaime Reyes, aka Blue Beetle, in the upcoming DC Extended Universe film 'Blue Beetle.' The forthcoming DC offering marks the first film that highlights a Latino character, which puts Xolo as the superhero of the story. The budding actor speaks with co-host Letty, of the Power Mornings show Letty and Teddy, and admits that he had to get over his ego stepping into this role and understand that this movie is not for him, it's for the representation for the Latino culture. Xolo also goes on to speak about his experience entering acting at an early age, the origins of his unique Aztec name and heritage, and much more.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Martin Kove (@MartinKove) is a prolific actor best known for his portrayal of the evil karate sensei, John Kreese, in The Karate Kid trilogy and Netflix's Cobra Kai series. Be on the lookout as he hosts the upcoming Kicking It with the Koves podcast with his kids Jesse and Rachel. What We Discuss with Martin Kove: How Martin nailed his audition for The Karate Kid by channeling his anger at not having ample time to prepare for it. Why we need more role models for leadership and personal responsibility in popular culture -- in the western genre, if Martin had his way. How Martin finds common ground with the hard-to-love characters he sometimes portrays in order to make them relatable. Does playing villains for months on set ever rub off on Martin's real-life behavior (and does this tend to work for or against him)? How does Martin look so young and stay in shape as a 74-year-old?
