Guest Bio:  John Humphrey is the vice president and project leader for the nonprofit I Am Second. This organization exists to tell other's radical testimonies, through book and film, to inspire people to put Jesus first in their lives. John also serves as producer of the majority of I Am Second films, including the feature documentary Loud Krazy Love, currently distributed via Showtime Networks. He holds master's degrees in business administration from the University of Texas at Dallas and sports administration from Ohio University, and he has a bachelor's degree in communications from Wake Forest University. He and his wife Kathleen have two married daughters, Jessica and Laura.   Show Summary:  What does it mean to be second? We live in a culture of always wanting to be number one, the champion, the first, and the best. But does that align with what the Bible says about how we are supposed to live as Christians? If we put ourselves first, how do we serve others, lay down our sinful ways, or ultimately allow God to be first? On this episode of God Hears Her, hosts Elisa Morgan and Eryn Eddy-Adkins talk with John Humphrey, the vice president of I Am Second, about what it means to be second to God, and discover that everyone has a testimony worth sharing.   Notes and Quotes:  “I Am Second Ministry means to put the needs of Jesus and others ahead of yourself.”— John Humphrey “We want people to see an authentic story of a person who has had a personal encounter with Jesus.”— John Humphrey “So many people think they don't have a story. . .”— John Humphrey “I've been serving rather than living for myself.”— John Humphrey “There's moments throughout your life that you know God and the Holy Spirit are alongside you. Sometimes it's a moment of triumph, sometimes it's a teaching moment. . . or that's when it really became real to you about what Jesus did for you.”— John Humphrey “Know that your relationship with Jesus is the starting point and what matters. And if you lean into that. . . and let Him show you the next steps in life, not the final steps and where you ultimately want to get to, but the next steps in life.”— John Humphrey   Links:  I Am Second website: https://www.iamsecond.com/ God Hears Her website: https://www.godhearsher.org/  God Hears Her newsletter sign-up: https://www.godhearsher.org/signup Subscribe on iTunes! https://apple.co/3frJl9j  Elisa's Instagram: elisa morgan author Eryn's Instagram: eryneddy   MB01GAQYW5OUGVD

We had a great conversation with the amazing Chuck Wright. We talked about many things from music, sacrifices, his time with the iconic rock band Quiet Riot, his story, he told some really great stories to a whole lot more!Chuck is proud and excited to release his debut solo album, Sheltering Sky, on Los Angeles-based Cleopatra Records, on May 20. The album features guest appearances by several of Wright's musical peers including keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater/Billy Idol), guitarist Lanny Cordola (House of Lords), vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (Yngwie Malmsteen), Troy Luccketta (Tesla) and the late Mr. Big drummer, Pat Torpey. The album's 11 tracks also illustrate Wright's impressive songwriting ability as he either wrote or co-wrote all nine original songs on the album. Also included is an edgy, intense version of Bjork's “Army of Me” along with a soulful, Celtic-rock take on the The Youngbloods classic, “Darkness, Darkness.” Chuck also produced and engineered most of the album.Sheltering Sky exhibits a diversity and breadth of musical styles that embraces facets of Wright's hard rock legacy while also delving into a more varied side of Chuck's musical vision with well-written songs that feature ethereal guitar work, tasteful, soulful 70s era influences, Prog, Jazz Fusion and even a bit of heavy funk. Besides his usual outstanding bass work as performed on a variety of different bass instruments, Wright also contributes on keys and acoustic guitar on several tracks. The new single from Sheltering Sky is Throwin' Stones, a fierce and passionate call for the end of armed conflict, a call which couldn't be more perfectly timed for today's world. It features a heavy funk groove that emphasizes Wright's powerhouse playing and the various playing techniques for which he is known.Wright is best known as a long-time member of multi-platinum heavy metal band Quiet Riot. He originally joined Quiet Riot in 1981, playing bass on the tracks "Metal Health (Bang Your Head)" and "Don't Wanna Let You Go," as well as singing background vocals on all tracks from the 1983 multi-platinum album Metal Health, which was the first metal album to ever reach #1 on the Billboard 200 chart (in November 1983).He performed, toured the world, and recorded with Quiet Riot on-and-off for 26 years…recording nine albums with the band, before departing the band again. As of now, he is no longer a member of Quiet Riot as he concentrates on his solo career and new album.Wright is featured in the documentary Quiet Riot – Well Now You're Here, directed and produced by Regina Russell. It premiered at the Newport Beach Film Festival on April 29, 2014, was seen at the Cannes Film Festival, and has aired on the Showtime Network.

We need to talk about W. Kamau Bell. The talented stand-up comic and popular CNN series host/Executive Producer (“United Shades of America”) has just made his initial foray into directing with the provocative and definitive 4-part Showtime docuseries, “We Need to Talk About Cosby”. When a cultural icon like Bill Cosby, who was once so beloved as to be referred to as “America's Dad”, is later convicted of using his power and prestige to rape women, the need to reassess his role in society, and the space he occupies in our collective psyche, becomes imperative. But it isn't until now, thanks to Kamau's skillfully crafted, sensitive and brutally honest series, that this important conversation is finally beginning to take place.   In our own frank and personal Top Docs conversation with Kamau, he discusses what it meant for him to come to grips with the dark truths that have been a part of Cosby's life for decades, but, which, until recently, were kept mostly hidden. What was it like for Kamau to approach dozens of people to participate in the documentary only to be met, time-and-again, with silence or rejection? Why was “The Cosby Show” such a powerful moment of identification for Black people in America and how did Kamau depict this in the documentary? How did Kamau and his creative team decide on a narrative approach to including the stories of the many survivors of Cosby's abuse in such a way that portrays them as more than just victims? And, when making the film began to take a personal toll, who did Kamau turn to for support and encouragement? Join us for this vital conversation about Bill Cosby… and about us. Rest assured, there is plenty to talk about. “We Need to Talk About Cosby” can be seen now on the Showtime Network and Showtime Streaming.   Follow on twitter @wkamaubell @topdocspod   Some Documentaries that Inspired Kamau: Surviving R.
