If you caught the New York Knicks vs. Miami Heat game, you might have noticed a 10-minute delay in the third quarter. Turns out Tracy Morgan became ill courtside and had to be escorted out. The comedian later reassured fans on Instagram that he's doing fine after a case of food poisoning. In classic Tracy fashion, he joked that he might just throw up again if it means another Knicks win! Meanwhile, Niecy Nash-Betts celebrated her 55th birthday in Beyoncé-inspired Cowboy Carter style with a rodeo-themed party at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills. Dressed in a dazzling red sequined corset, cowboy hat, and thigh-high boots, she truly brought the Western glam. Internalized capitalism is the idea that a person's self-worth is directly linked to their productivity. It's a systemic problem that's becoming more pervasive, especially with the popularity of social media. Internalized capitalism can lead to feelings of anxiety and worthlessness when people can't live up to capitalist ideals such as competition, limited resources, and the need to be productive. On this episode of Go Help Yourself, Lisa and Misty talk about how to identify internalized capitalism within yourself, and what you can do to fight it to increase your self-worth. The entertainment industry is smack-dab in the middle of award season, and like most people, one of my favorite parts of tuning in is the acceptance speeches. Niecy Nash-Betts has almost 100 acting credits, but it was her first time winning an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Dramatic Series, and her speech was nothing short of show-stopping. Join me this week to hear why I believe Niecy Nash-Betts' speech is a reminder we all need, and the power of consistently thanking ourselves for showing up to do the hard, mundane work while clinging to the belief that everything we want is possible. OSCAR NOMINATIONS WERE TUESDAY! We know everyone's talking about Margot R and Gretas L & G, but the biggest story in our eyes was the nomination of a song sung by Becky G! Is it the best Diane Warren Oscar song in a long time? Well, yes! Is the curse lifted? Well, kinda sorta! Moving on we take your calls about Reneé Rapp's ever-evolving Wikipedia page, Dunkin's pink trendsetting, Kerwin Frost's McNugget collab, his wife Erin's former job, Jamie Dornan's friend who got afflicted with Podcast Mouth, Niecy Nash-Betts's cousins, Chicago, Chicago, Chicago, and more! For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Ema Sasic, Josh Parham, Dan Bayer & Daniel Howat. Today, we are reviewing the latest film from Ava DuVernay, "Origin," starring Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, Audra McDonald, Niecy Nash-Betts, Nick Offerman & Blair Underwood. Making its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, where it competed for the Golden Lion, the dramatic adaptation of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Isabel Wilkerson's life and novel "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents" was one of 2023's most unique and powerful films. What did we think of it? Should it have been made into a documentary instead of a feature film? How do we feel about its awards season campaign? Tune in as we discuss these points, the writing, direction, acting, its Oscar potential, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you, and enjoy! Origin is the story of a writer who faces personal loss at the same time she works on a book based on her unified theory about systems of oppression. Written and directed by Ava DuVernay, the film is adapted from Isabel Wilkerson's best-selling book, Caste: The Origins Of Our Discontents, and dramatizes the book's ideas and the way it comes together. Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor stars as Wilkerson, and also features Jon Bernthal and Niecy Nash-Betts.
Thanks for patience with the delay in posting the show this morning. This week Megan and Dave talk about ORIGIN (2:51), director and screenwriter Ava DuVernay's adaptation of Isabel Wilkerson's book Caste, starring Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor as Wilkerson, Jon Bernthal as Wilkerson's husband Brett, and Niecy Nash-Betts as Wilkerson's cousin and best friend Marion. All three of us watched I.S.S. (21:32), starring Ariana DeBose and Chris Messina, in a tale as old as time: The United States and Russia are at war, so the astronauts and cosmonauts on the international space station in Earth's orbit are instructed to take the structure in the name of their respective nations by any means necessary. Ah, science! And over on Patreon, we talk THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN, the 1971 film based on Michael Crichton's novel. If you're not a Patreon member, you can become one and get access to nearly 400 bonus episodes for $5 a month, and access to monthly polls.

It is Tuesday on The Rickey Smiley Morning Show Podcast. There is an artic blast that is traveling throughout the United States. This is affecting 80% of the country as freezing temperatures and snowfall has caused school closings and outages. The RSMS crew urges everyone to be safe. Anthony Anderson hosted this year's Emmy Awards with his mother also joining in the show. Quinta Brunson made history as the first black woman to win an Emmy for Best Comedic Actress in her role in Abbott Elementary. Niecy Nash Betts won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in her role in the Netflix series Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story. Also, they are talking about Diddy cutting off Yung Miami. The music mogul has been going through many lawsuits and other issues due to sexual assault allegations. It is being said while he is going through this turmoil, he has cut off Yung Miami's money for the moment. Yung Miami has been spotted out with her baby father, music producer Southside in the club. All of this and more on The Rickey Smiley Morning Show Podcast. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
I want to thank ME and Niecy Nash Betts for an inspiring evening whilst winning an Emmy. We are finishing our Love Has Won coverage and bringing in the most important facts. Which are that Dr Phil is related to Fashion Royalty. In this situation, What would Morgan do?
In what is probably the most Blackish Emmys ever with host Anthony Anderson, a reunion of Martin Lawrence's "Martin," historic wins from many Black actors (and by the way, the show was produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment), the 75th Emmys was quite entertaining, quite diverse, and what a celebration. Quinta Brunson became the first Black actress in 40-plus years to take home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy. Of course, that's for her show, "Abbott Elementary." The last Black woman, by the way, to win the award was Isabel Sanford in "The Jeffersons" back in 1981. But it was Niecy Nash Betts who stole the show with her acceptance speech after winning the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Anthology Series or Movie. Niecy took a minute to thank the person who's been there since the very beginning, herself. She came back to the press room and explained: "I'm the only one who knows what it cost me. I'm the only one who knows how many nights I cried because I couldn't be seen for a certain type of role. I'm the one who knows what it's like to go through divorce on camera and still have to pull up and show out and you still got to go home and you have children and a whole life. And so I'm proud of myself. I'm proud that I did something that people said I could not do because I believed in me and sometimes people don't believe in themselves. And I hope my speech was a delicious invitation for people to do just that: Believe in yourself and congratulate yourself. Sometimes you got to encourage, what? Yourself. And that's why it's not called mama-esteem, them-esteem, us-esteem, it's called self-esteem. Cause don't nobody got to believe it, but you." "Succession," one of my all-time favorite shows, won with six awards each. Of course, the Roy clan of "Succession" and the newfound family of "The Bear" were the Emmy's biggest winners. And what a show! We'll have a lot more from backstage at the Emmys later on this week, so stay tuned, and don't forget to follow us @aurnonline for all of the YouTube videos that we have from award season. #TheRookieFeds is a new hit show focusing on law enforcement, with a twist! From the creator of #TheRookie, this series spinoff focuses on #NiecyNashBetts (Simone) and her journey becoming an FBI agent in her late forties. Having a show like this - with a little bit of everything - focusing on a Black woman is not something that's often seen. And, of course, Niecy and Frankie bring a great deal to their roles as father and daughter with opposing views of law enforcement professionals. Not only is the show action-packed and funny, it is also heartwarming. In this interview, they share their thoughts on what it takes to make this series and the characters shine, from behind the scenes to in front of the camera. And not to mention, #NashBetts is getting well-deserved accolades for not only this, but the harrowing #Dahmer with #EvanPeters and #RyanMurphy. Both are well worth the watch, for obviously different reasons. Interestingly, the two show her characters on opposite sides as well - one as a caring enforcer of the law, and the other as a frustrated citizen trying to do the right thing but being ignored by officers.
