Shapewear has typically been associated with synthetic fibers, but a recent launch from Spanx is proving natural materials have a place in the category.Based on consumer feedback, Spanx set out to create shaping garments using natural fibers, and it landed on long-staple Supima cotton as the base material. The SpanxShape Invisible Supima Cotton collection combines Supima's natural inherent benefits with targeted stretch and hold from Lycra FitSense. The result is lightweight, breathable, moisture-wicking innerwear that gives the shaping Spanx is known for. In this episode, Spanx's chief design officer Pascale Gueracague and Supima's vice president, marketing and promotions Buxton Midyette talk with Sarah Jones, senior editor, strategic content at Sourcing Journal, about what makes Supima a fit for shapewear and how this collection delivers the "Spanx effect." Sara Blakely is the founder of Spanx and opens up about believing in her products and trusting her gut. She created her revolutionary brand after identifying a problem in her wardrobe: what undergarments could she wear with white pants? Blakely's answer to that question started a shapewear revolution. She used the money she earned selling fax machines to launch her products, which soon started flying off the shelves of department stores and became a wardrobe staple for millions. She sold her majority stake in Spanx in 2021 after more than twenty years at the helm. Blakely opened up to Hoda on her journey to success, embracing failure, and trusting her intuition.

Ever dealt with that annoying thigh chafing? Julie had a heart-to-heart with Marnie Rabinovitch Consky, Founder and CEO of Thigh Society, who turned her personal struggle into a thriving business. Without any related experience in sales, clothing manufacturing or ecommerce, she followed her hunch and self-funded Thigh Society to over $25M in sales, creating a new long leg underwear category of shorties that she calls “chafewear”.Thigh Society has been featured on The Today Show & The Marilyn Denis Show, in In Style, Buzzfeed, and SELF to name a few, and is well loved by celeb influencers like Meredith Shaw, Alicia McCarvell and Remi Bader in addition to being ranked as one of Canada's Fastest Growing Companies in the Globe & Mail's Report on Business for 3 years in a row. On this special Valentine's Day episode, joining Doron and guest co-host extraordinaire Dana Shauli Malmstrom (1981-85), to tell us her story - on her birthday - is the inimitable Jill Kenton, who many old Carmelis around the world know of course as Doron's regular co-host on the ‘Road from Carmel' podcast and as the indefatigable organizer of multiple Carmel reunions. Jill is a professional voice-over artist with a global clientele, and the new face of ‘Shapewear' on QVC UK, and was the marketing director of her family's brand, Rigby & Peller, for over two decades in the UK and New York. Happy Birthday, Jill! Thank you, Jill, for turning us again to Carmel days! Thank you also to Dana for stepping in as Doron's co-host to turn the spotlight on Jill. Foundations for Success at the Dog Show: Shoes and Shapewear [caption id="attachment_12644" align="alignleft" width="306"] Veronica Wolfe, owner at Best in Show Clothes[/caption] Veronica Wolfe, owner of Best in Show Clothes, joins host Laura Reeves with professional advice on shoes, shapewear and other foundations for success at the dog show. “I've become passionate about good shoes,” Wofe said. “And I've been known, a couple handlers can attest to this, of grabbing people and going, you need to get out of those shoes because you will have hip and knee and back problems before you're 35 if you don't. So, yeah, it's important. “If you can find a small shoe store in your area that actually has a fit specialist … I would be go to one. I would run to one. But you also need to know a little bit about your own foot issues. Do you roll in? That's called pronating. Do you roll out? There are different things. Do you have high arches? Low arches? There are running stores now that you can go in and put your feet on things and it will show you your arch. There's a couple things that you want. “You do want some cushioning. We're in concrete all day. I'm not running circles, but I'm standing in a booth. You know, we're in concrete all day. People are running all day. You need something with some good cushion. “You want to look for a non -slip sole. Some of the stores online now actually actually say non -slip. If you need an arch, you need a good arch. Arch supports. You can get them for $40, $50 at running stores. I've seen them in sections sometimes at like TJ Maxx and Ross. And the over -the -counter ones, I've been told by a shoe specialist, are as good as the custom $400 podiatrist ones. “It almost seems like there's more options for guys and you've got this balance, right? So you can get a nice leather shoe for an indoor show, but you're going to ruin that leather shoe at eight a.m. in the morning when there's dew outside. So, you've got some nicer looking skater shoes, but the problem with those is there's generally very little arch support. “I have a number of (women) clients who do not like the way their calves look, and they'll be in boots even in the summertime. I think they look quite attractive if you're wearing a skirt and a blazer or maybe if you want a denim skirt. I would just say try and keep a nice line between them so you have a skirt then you've got a gap and you've got your skirt. Maybe black hose or tights that make that transition seamless, so it's not like this distracting line there. But you've got some really comfortable boots out there that will have that arch support or it's easy to insert one in it. Pro tip from Laura: Pro tip from a handler perspective: have more than one pair of shoe for each day. Change shoes, because even if it's just changing the angle of your heel this much, it makes an enormous difference. Pat Rogers is the one who taught me that a million years ago as a handler, change your shoes at lunch, and it makes all the difference in the world. Pro tip from Veronica: don't let your shoes get run down. If you are an exhibitor that's going out every weekend, six months max, you need to toss those shoes. For more on the essentials of foundations under our clothing, listen in to the full episode.

Getting the right ingredients when cooking or baking is pertinent in a successful recipe. Building an outfit is no different. When you get dressed every day, you should be wearing the correct-fitting undergarments to support your outfit. #please Join us on this episode as Your Favorite Personal Stylist, Holly Katz, outlines the “Top Undergarments You Need to Own!” Listen Now Here: https://apple.co/2XXKHfC When you are deciding what to wear, choosing the correct undergarments can make or break how you feel about yourself in your clothes. That's what your clothes should be doing for you: serving you and making you look your best. Because when you look your best, you feel your best. #trademark! Backstory: When Holly is working with clients to help solve their closet chaos, her rule #1 is: “The older and out of date your undergarments are, the more unsexy and unflattering you feel.” So, to rectify this problem, you need to take inventory every year or so, and clean out your underwear drawer. You know which underwear and bras make you feel the best. So, keep those (as long as they are in good condition) - and get rid of the rest. HOT TIP: Follow along on Holly's PINTEREST Board for all these amazing suggestion and where to buy them at https://pin.it/3Yh0nsd THE TOP UNDERGARMENTS YOU NEED TO OWN: Seamless Underwear Correct-Fitting Bras Boob Tape, Nipple Covers and Backless Bras Shapewear Bottoms Shapewear Tops THE WEAR AND CARE OF YOUR UNDERGARMENTS: Underwear, of course, you wash after every wearing (which means you replace more often, too). Bras can be worn many days in a row before washing is necessary – because you don't work out in your regular bras. (Sports bras, you wash). Shapewear can be worn more than once, as well, as long as the support stays strong. The key to laundry care is to not be overly aggressive in your washing machine cycles or with detergents. AND, you never put undergarments in the dryer. Heat breaks down the stretchy fibers you need for support. Also, do not hang your bras to dry by the straps (again, all the stretch is there). Just lie flat to dry. HOW MUCH TO SPEND ON UNDERGARMENTS: Holly has a tried-and-true formula: CPW which is the ‘Cost Per Wear' that she swears by. If you are going to wear an item 100 times, is $100 too much to spend? You do the math that makes the most sense to you, but that is not expensive when you consider the CPW. The adage of ‘you get what you pay for' really makes sense when you spend money on workhorse items like supportive undergarments. HAVE YOUR ARSENAL READY! Take the time to get professionally fitted for bras of all sorts, try on shapewear items and purchase the ones that solve your support issues best, and try boob tape and nipples covers to see what works best for you. #likedoitnow Then, when you have an occasion or a new outfit, you will be ready to go with the strong foundations you need to look and feel your best. You won't be scrambling at the last minute. This is key to having a succeful wardrobe. WE INTERUPT THIS PODCAST FOR A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!
