How do you tell the next generation about Jesus? Everyone needs to hear the good news, but it can be challenging for one generation to share it with the next. Here's help.=====At 2Rivers, one of our core values says, “We are all in on the next generation” because God Himself commands it! Psalm 78:4 reads:We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generationabout the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders. If Jesus has made a difference in your life, pass that message on and tell the next generation about Him. In this message, 2Rivers Youth Pastor Brandon Johnson shares what the Bible says about sharing Jesus with the younger people in your life, plus eight practical steps to help you do it.HOW TO TELL THE NEXT GENERATION ABOUT JESUS1. HELP THE YOUNG PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE FALL IN LOVE WITH THE BIBLETalk with young people about the Bible, and model studying the Word for yourself. See Deuteronomy 6:4.2. TALK ABOUT GOD WITH YOUNG PEOPLE AS YOU GO ABOUT YOUR DAYWords and actions are a powerful combination. Though we must be wise—saying things in the right way and at the right time—don't neglect words altogether.3. MAKE CHURCH A FAMILY PRIORITYChurch isn't the only way to pass on your faith, but it is a crucial commitment that shows the young people in your life that you're serious about Jesus.4. TALK ABOUT WHAT GOD HAS DONE IN YOUR LIFEIt's easy to keep some of our most intimate moments with God to ourselves, but the young people in your life need to hear what you experienced!5. REALIZE YOUR FAITH IS OFTEN CAUGHT, NOT TAUGHTWhen your words of faith don't seem to make an impact, it can be discouraging, especially when trying to pass your faith down to the next generation. Trust that God will show Himself through your actions, not just your words.6. BE WILLING TO BE EXHAUSTED FOR THE SAKE OF OTHERSThe young people in your life may not want to discuss important matters on your schedule. But they may be open to late-night conversations! See the story of Nicodemus in John 3:1-21.7. INVITE GOD INTO THE SITUATION INSTEAD OF JUST GIVING ADVICEWhen young people open up to you, it's easy to just give advice. Spend a minute praying, inviting God in. Give Him room to move in your interaction.8. BECOME LIKE A CHILD TO REACH THE NEXT GENERATIONThere's a big difference between being like a child and being childish. To be like a child is to humble yourself, be willing to learn, and realize you could be wrong. See Luke 18:3.Resources for you: Learn about 2Rivers Kids: https://www.2riverschurch.com/kids.htmlLearn about 2Rivers Youth: https://www.2riverschurch.com/youth.htmlWant to invest in the next generation? FIXED IN THE GULF THE "In-Between" "The Damned" Luke 16:25-26 (KJV) 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. AS YOU ARE IN BETWEEN- YOU ARE FIXED IN THE GULF 1 Kings 18:21(KJV) 21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word. 1 Kings 18:21 (AMP) 21 Elijah approached all the people and said, “How long will you [a]hesitate between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” But the people [of Israel] did not answer him [so much as] a word. Jude 21-23(KJV) 21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 22 And of some have compassion, making a difference: 23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Having a podcast means I get to meet a lot of amazing people. Some I connect with - and they connect with me - and some not so much. When interviewing Keenan, and talking to him on the phone, it became quickly clear to me we would be lifelong connections. Keenan's straight forward approach likely rankles some C-suite executives, but his advice is spot on, and his intentions are crystal clear: to get your butt moving in the right direction with advice you never learned. Hence the title of his fantastic book Not Taught, which is the fastest 90 minute read I've ever had that will take time to implement and achieve. Warning: until you put all of Not Taught into action, you may want to hide from your C-suite leader, as they'll think you're going out on your own or looking for a new job - though that is NOT what this book is about. Not Taught is all about how the rules of the 20th century no longer apply - and how we can pivot into the next century and succeed because we embrace these sooner than our competition. Meaty, useful stuff. This episode went way too fast. We covered as much as we could. And we will do this again - soon. You'll want to find Keenan at http://asalesguy.com right away - and start learning from him ASAP. More about Keenan Keenan is A Sales Guy Inc’s CEO/President and Chief Antagonist. Keenan went through a lot before he found success as A Sales Guy. He’s a great example of persistence in light of disasters after disaster. He had one collapse after another, falling like dominoes in a line. Each attempt was great. They were brilliant ideas. They just didn’t take root, despite the amount of work and effort put into them. Keenan share his stories in today’s show. He talks about what happened and how he’s glad he went through each of these flops. As he told me, he has no regrets. Here’s what Keenan and I discuss: How he came up with his first product that he sold via infomercials. Why he didn’t understand the industry he was selling this product to. Why he received a cease and desist letter from Anthony Robbins. How the product sold like crazy, and had refund requests almost just as fast. How he started his first “dot com” business, CreateBuzz, in 2003. It was a social network and content aggregator wrapped together. Despite the success in some areas, he couldn’t get it to grow as intended. How some communities were more social and quicker to grow than others. Why he still loves the idea of CreateBuzz and wishes he could keep it going. Why you need to do a little research before running headfirst into a business idea. How he started asalesguy.com to build his resume, and how it accidentally turned into his big success. Why he’s building another software product, this time to solve his problems. Why he still struggles with procrastination and spontaneity. How he came up with the idea for Not Taught. Enjoy the show: How Keenan Learned What's Not Taught, Through Trial And Error
Not Taught punches you in the face with the new realities of work today and offers clear strategies on how to be successful in this crazy information-driven world.
Today we hear about what we are not being taught to be successful, from Jim Keenan. Jim’s new book, Not Taught, represents a journey of discovery in how giving gives back, even when you are not expecting it. The story of the book began when Jim was asked to give a speech to graduates about what they really needed to know going forward. The speech funneled into a blog post, which stuck with Jim. He then turned it into an ebook, did more research, added to it, and eventually became the published version it is today. So what is it that graduates these days need to know? What are we not being taught? Jim says that our parent’s generation believed one way: get a good job and work there forever. That has all changed. The world these students are entering is playing by different rules that their parents could not have prepared them for. Tune in for the education you may have missed, on today’s episode of In the Arena. There’s never been such a good time to be successful ~ Jim KeenanClick To Tweet The time is now to get paid to think During the industrial age, a boss would have scoffed at the idea of paying someone to think. That mindset was a joke. No one approached their boss with ideas, instead everyone had their place and expectations. Today, Jim Keenan says companies are desperate for thinking people. It is all about creatively solving problems. There are no longer steps to follow, roles to assume, and one way to operate. The old industrial age mindset is a disadvantage when entering today’s market. Big companies lay employees off when the economy shifts and are no longer a long-term reliable basket to put any of your eggs in. Jim wants to prepare you for the information age, which creates room for thinking and for ideas to matter. Find out today if you are really embracing the change this age is bringing, with Jim Keenan as he shares insights from his book, "Not Taught." What is your reach? “Reach” and “brand” are two buzzwords Jim Keenan wants you to be able to define for yourself. Your reach is the ability for people to find you. Do you have a LinkedIn profile? Is it current and complete? Without utilizing tools like this, you are inhibiting your own chances of being noticed, known, and ultimately hired. The importance of reach really comes down to how many people can you influence? How can you move your message through people and get them talking about it. Reach is not a new idea, it has always been important, but why? People pay for reach. If you can connect yourself to people, and people to people, you can move whatever you want through those groups, and they will react. Listen in to start discovering your own reach. Expect the shifts ~ Jim KeenanClick To Tweet Not Taught: It’s branding season The next thing Jim Keenan advises to be thinking about is your brand. Who are you and what do you want to be known for? There is often a lack of trust in oneself to figure out a brand and work on it. Many people find themselves stuck between thinking it is too late to start working on their brand and waiting for approval to develop one. Having a brand creates massive value. One perspective Jim speaks to is the younger millennials mixed up in the industrial age mindset and influence of their parents, with no green light motivation to move forward. Jim calls you forward into asking where it is you want to go and how to start moving that direction. It is time to embrace your brand. Shifting out of autopilot The first step you take creates something necessary: movement. If you find yourself stuck on autopilot, you need to make a move. Yes, you will be forced to ask questions for yourself and shift your brand. Jim Keenan does not want you to hold yourself back, or worse, be boring. Is fear holding you back? Fear of how people will react to you? A lot of people think they are okay if they are not getting negative reactions. But what if you embraced the struggle and stopped to think about what you really want to be good a...
