Berly and LA dive into Supernatural's Season 8, Episode 14: "Trial and Error" - where the Winchester boys get fancy new digs while poor Kevin survives on nothing but hot dogs! The episode kicks off with the hosts confused about Kevin's location (still on that gross houseboat, not in the bunker as expected), where he's living his worst life eating plain wieners and having nosebleeds. Meanwhile, Sam and Dean are living their BEST lives in the Men of Letters bunker with Dean decorating his room like he's finally discovered HGTV. Memory foam mattress included - because apparently the Men of Letters were ahead of their time!Kevin calls with good news: he's figured out how to close the gates of hell! It just requires three trials, starting with killing a hellhound and bathing in its blood. Easy peasy, right? The brothers head to Idaho to stalk the Cassity family, who struck oil 10 years ago under geologically impossible circumstances - classic demon deal territory. The case gets complicated when they discover multiple family members made deals with Crowley during a charming family dinner 10 years prior. Carl the "trophy husband" traded his soul for Alice's love (consent be damned), while farm manager Ellie made her deal to save her mom from Parkinson's. The hosts initially loved Carl until they learned about his creepy motivations - then it was "fuck you, Carl."Things get steamy when Ellie shoots her shot with Dean in the most direct way possible, leading to the hosts' hilarious commentary about what they would do in her "last night on earth" situation. Dean turns her down for noble reasons, which probably saved everyone from trauma when his face starts going all hellhound-proximity crazy later. The hellhound special effects steal the show - the semi-invisible design with glowing red eyes and teeth had the hosts thoroughly impressed. Sam gets to be the hero, killing the beast and getting covered in an ungodly amount of black blood that had the hosts questioning what exactly hellhound blood contains. The episode ends with Sam completing the first trial (complete with mysterious light traveling up his "thick, hairy forearms" - the hosts are VERY aware of this season's increased scruff factor), setting up the ongoing arc. Dean's not happy about Sam taking on the trials, knowing how these things usually end for Winchesters. The hosts loved the hellhound effects, the beautiful farm location, and the continuing "daddification" of the Winchester brothers, while lamenting that most of the characters were pretty terrible people who probably deserved their fates."Between the claws, the teeth, and the invisibility, those bitches can be real... bitches."Sources:https://supernatural.fandom.com/wiki/Trial_and_Errorhttps://www.buzzsprout.com/2076426/episodes/12977493Send us your review!Support the showTHANK YOU FOR LISTENING!Please rate and review Denim-Wrapped Nightmares wherever you get your podcasts! Pastor Chat: I was watching a reel of a very famous actress who has been married and divorced multiple times, and each time, her marriage was destructive. She was explaining that her stance is that people shouldn't criticize her for not being able to keep a man because if she realizes she made a mistake, she wants the freedom to correct it by ending the marriage and moving on to another one. While she has the right to recognize her mistakes and attempt to fix them, the issue is that marriage was never meant to be a trial-and-error process. Many people, whether dating or married, treat marriage as if it's something to experiment with—thinking, "Let me try this and see what happens. If it doesn't work out, I'll just do it again." But that's not how God designed marriage. Marriage was intended to be a lifelong commitment—at most, twice, if a spouse passes away. If we approached the decision of whom to marry with the understanding that it is a one-time choice meant to last a lifetime, we would make wiser decisions. It's similar to being a 16-year-old excited to start driving. Imagine your parents telling you that instead of getting a "first" car, you're getting the "only" car you'll have for the rest of your life. How carefully would you choose? If it were just a first car, most teenagers would go for one that looks good and drives fast, not thinking about longevity. But if they knew it had to last forever, they would prioritize durability over appearance. In the same way, if we treated marriage as a permanent commitment rather than a trial run, we would make more thoughtful choices. In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Tim Danley, a dedicated farmer and tech innovator, about his unique journey into integrating drone technology with agriculture. Tim's path began on his family farm, where he worked during school breaks, and later enrolled in the Air Force as a military policeman. After returning home to manage Danley Farms, he became deeply involved in a range of activities, from overseeing diverse crops to volunteering as a firefighter and leading a search-and-rescue drone team.Tim's adoption of drone technology was driven by his desire to complement, not replace, traditional farming practices. He explained how drones are particularly effective for tasks like targeted spraying on small plots, and while his introduction of drones faced the same skepticism that innovations like GPS in farming once experienced, Tim's efforts to educate others have been key in easing concerns and highlighting drones' practical benefits. One of the most inspiring parts of our conversation was hearing how Tim, a self-taught drone enthusiast, has embraced experimentation and failure as part of his journey. His approach to learning and applying technology highlights endless opportunities in agriculture—opportunities not just for farmers, but also for tech-savvy individuals looking to make an impact.Tim has a passion for putting a human face to farming, connecting with his community, and sharing stories that educate and inspire. Even his neighbors and colleagues have gained new appreciation for the industry through his work. As someone who believes in the power of storytelling, I was energized by Tim's commitment to changing perceptions one video, one story, and one connection at a time.If you're curious about Tim's journey, you can follow him on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook under "North Wind Aerial." His work is a testament to what can happen when you combine passion, innovation, and a willingness to share your story. Brian Thompson chats with Adam Oh, founder of Adam Aligned, a business focused on helping people heal from emotional hardship, find direction, and realize their full potential. On the episode, Adam shares his journey from music artist and social media influencer to self-help entrepreneur. He emphasizes the importance of research and trial and error. He also discusses the significance of overcoming limiting beliefs and provides some actional tools to identify and address them. Episode Highlights Mission-driven businesses operate with core values. Adam defined a mission-driven business as one that operates from the founder's core values and strives to make a positive change in the world. For many founders, including Adam, the business is deeply personal and an extension of their purpose. “In many cases, like for myself, the reason for starting the business is deeply personal,” Adam said. “For many people, the business itself is synonymous with their purpose.” You can be self-taught. Adam's path toward financial independence started when he went viral as a music artist on Vine in high school and again on TikTok in college. After college graduation, he had to choose between moving to Los Angeles and pursuing a music career or moving to Utah to explore entrepreneurship and life closer to his partner. He chose Utah and spent years deep in self-help research. “If I want to get into this industry and make my voice heard and make an impact on people, I have to be about what I talk about,” Adam said. There's just a plethora of knowledge out there and, from a young age, the music success taught me that you absolutely can be self-taught.” Don't be limited by limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs can often prevent entrepreneurs from achieving their full potential. Adam's “laundry list” of limiting beliefs he had to address when he started his business included fear of failure, fear of success, and money fears. “I learned that there is a very, very strong link between your thoughts and your beliefs, especially your beliefs about yourself and what you are capable of,” Adam said. “One of the things I found from researching people who have succeeded in making their impact is that there is a very very strong link between your set of beliefs and your ability to go out in the world and accomplish that thing you want to achieve.” Build, measure, learn, repeat. Adam admitted that his new business hasn't had the level of success he had hoped for when he first launched. While he's still aiming to grow his social media audience as a way to earn income, like he did for his music career, he's also set up a donation page, sold digital guides and workbooks, and explored the idea of coaching. “I launched my first product, and no, it didn't hit my revenue goals,” Adam said. “It's recognizing that the first thing not being a huge success doesn't mean that it was a huge failure. It just means that you did the thing and now you have the opportunity to learn from it and try again and probably get better results next time. I'm willing to fail 100 times to make one work.” Resources + Links Adam's Ideal Self Guide Adam Aligned: Website, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, X, Facebook, LinkedIn Adam Aligned Podcast: Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music Brian Thompson Financial: Website, Newsletter, Podcast Follow Brian Thompson Online: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Forbes About Brian and the Mission Driven Business Podcast Brian Thompson, JD/CFP, is a tax attorney and Certified Financial Planner® who specializes in providing comprehensive financial planning to LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs who run mission-driven businesses. Most scientific studies that get published have “positive results,” meaning that the study proved its hypothesis. Say you hypothesize that a honeybee will favor one flower over another, and your research backs that up? That's a positive result. But what about the papers with negative results? If you're a researcher, you know that you're much more likely to disprove your hypothesis than validate it. The problem is that there aren't a lot of incentives to publish a negative result. But, some argue that this bias to only publish papers with positive results is worsening existing issues in scientific research and publishing, and could prevent future breakthroughs. And that's where the Journal of Trial and Error comes in. It's a scientific publication that only publishes negative and unexpected results. And the team behind it wants to change how the scientific community thinks about failure, in order to make science stronger.Guest host Anna Rothschild talks with Dr. Sarahanne Field, editor-in-chief of the Journal of Trial And Error, and assistant professor in behavioral and social sciences at University of Groningen.Transcripts for each segment will be available after the show airs on sciencefriday.com.
