Last night, Everton Football Club had a shock 1-0 win against Manchester United, in a game that was somewhat marred by controversy.Just 13 minutes into the Toffees' remarkable Premier League win, Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye was sent off for striking team-mate Michael Keane. But, just how big of an issue is this? And what sort of an example is it setting?Joining guest host Anna Daly to discuss is Sean Slattery, member of the Irish Soccer Refs' Association, Off the Ball's Daniel Pitcher and Fiona Connelly, Everton fan and Soccer Coach and more.
At the Everton match last night, midfielder Idrissa Gueye has sparked huge discourse after he slapped his teammate, Michael Keane. He got sent off with a red card, but some are arguing that the punishment was far too harsh. But should violence on the pitch be normalised? Joining Jonothan to discuss this is Business and Life Coach Mark Fennell.
Everton have started their summer recruitment drive with the permanent capture of Carlos Alcaraz after a successful spell on loan. But there remains a lot for David Moyes to do. Little wonder, then, the Blues boss is getting linked with players left, right and centre, whether it be Manchester City pair Jack Grealish and James McAtee, or Villarreal rising star Thierno Barry. But there are also pressing contract situations to sort, most pertinently Idrissa Gueye, who alongside Everton team-mate Iliman Ndiaye, starred as Senegal secured a stunning 3-1 win at the City Ground last night over woeful England, whose decision to rest Jordan Pickford backfired. Everton's recruitment team has been formally boosted by the appointment of Nick Hammond. The transfer specialist has now started his work as part of the new-look recruitment team at Everton. Welcome to The Arsenal Therapy Podcast, a dedicated show about the club we love, Arsenal Football Club. We narrowly missed out on the Premier League title, but Kai Havertz's late goal ensured we ended a memorable season on a high with a victory over Everton. The Toffees, despite having nothing to play for, proved challenging and took the lead through Idrissa Gueye's deflected free-kick. We quickly responded with Takehiro Tomiyasu finding the bottom corner. We continued to push for the decisive goal, and Havertz delivered with a minute left. However, Manchester City's 3-1 win against West Ham rendered our result moot as they secured their fourth consecutive league title, finishing just two points ahead of us. Despite this, we achieved record numbers for wins and goals, and amassed 89 points, just one shy of the Invincibles' record from 20 years ago. Idrissa Gueye's second goal in consecutive weekends secured a third successive home win for Everton and a result that ensured Sean Dyche's side are now mathematically safe going into the final month of the season. The end of the season is on the horizon, but as always with Paris Saint-Germain, it's what's happening off the pitch that has football fans around the world buzzing. On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by the creator behind PSG Hub, one of the most popular PSG accounts on Twitter and a go-to source for news about the club for fans around the world. Up first, I ask PSG Hub how the account started and whether he's been surprised by the growth of the account in such a short time. Next, we dive into the latest reports regarding Kylian Mbappé's contract situation. Many believe he is destined to play for Real Madrid, but should PSG supporters hold out hope that their superstar will remain in the French capital? Could political pressure convince him to sign an extension? We also discuss the timing of Mbappé's ultimate decision and whether there is anything that PSG can do to convince him to stay. If he does go to Madrid, PSG Hub and I discuss the potential for failure if Mbappé doesn't live up to the lofty expectations and financial investment made to bring him to Spain. Assuming Mbappé does depart once his contract expires, PSG will have a huge hole to fill in its attack, not to mention the midfield which needs a complete rebuild. PSG Hub and I discuss potential summer transfer targets and whether Zinedine Zidane could replace Mauricio Pochettino as manager. Other topics discussed include a potential shakeup in PSG's hierarchy, the controversial situation surrounding Idrissa Gueye, and what will likely be Angel Di Maria's last match for Paris Saint-Germain. As always, thank you for listening, and be sure to subscribe and rate the show wherever you download your podcasts. We're also on Discord! Come join PSG fans from around the world and have your opinion heard.
