Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson says the massacre at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando on June 12 reflects a new direction for terror attacks on the U.S. Former House Intelligence Chairman Mike Rogers says the attack was done exactly as ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi wanted it. He warns Americans need to wake up and make some changes before the next one comes along.

Last week our country was shattered by another senseless massacre of innocent people. A gunman opened fire inside Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, leaving at least 49 people. Tougher gun laws, more surveillance cameras, an increase in security personnel, and harsher punishment for those convicted of such crimes are all considered possible deterrents to these crimes. Today we’ll hear some of THESE voices from a massive vigil held at Dupont Circle in Northwest DC and, in the second half, a conversation with Alexis Pauline Gumbs, whose poem “Pulse” is one of the few expressions by a queer Black person to be heard online at least after the massacre. It's been a week since the tragedy in Orlando. We attempt to wrap our minds around the issues that it presented. We are devastated by this and offer our continued attention and political action to the families of all those affected. 

On Sunday morning, June 12, a delegation of Department of Homeland Security staffers and other U.S. government officials were waiting at Joint Base Andrews for Secretary Jeh Johnson, for a trip to China. But he never showed. The Orlando night club massacre had not only shocked the U.S. population and set off fear and uncertainty about terrorists possibly in our midst, but U.S. officials were scrambling as well to figure out what was going on. Secretary Johnson sat down with Target USA to explain what happened in Orlando and what's next for U.S. homeland security.

Many people, teams and leagues across the sports world have reacted to the murder of 49 people who were killed in Orlando for being in a gay bar. From tweets by Seahawks punter Jon Runyon and former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal to moments of silence at Major League Baseball games, the tragedy has been felt in the sports world this week. While many of the reactions have featured rainbow flags and messages about pride, precious few people in sports have directly addressed the fact that the shooter was motivated by homophobia, that the LGBT community specifically was targeted, and that most of the victims are dead because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We talk about whether the sports world's embrace of rainbow colors is enough to acknowledge the LGBT community as the target of this hateful attack, or if more can be done. We also discuss the Orlando attack as an impetus for LGBT people to come out both privately and publicly. Tuesday on the C4 Show C4 spent the entire show talking about the Orlando Mass Shooting. C4 spent the first hour talking about how angry he was that both the Republicans and Democrats took no time to mourn before bringing out their talking points. In the second hour C4 was joined by David Zurawik of the Baltimore Sun to talk about Donald Trump banning the Washington Post from covering his events. C4 then took a live report from the hospital that took in the patients from the Orlando massacre. C4 then talked to Dr. Tom Scalea of the UMD Shock Trauma Center about the Orlando Massacre and what he sees here in Baltimore. C4 was then joined by Delegate Pat McDonough to talk about the Orlando Massacre and then C4 ended the show talking about President Obama's remarks on Donald Trump
