Scaling UP Nation, one of the things I love most about hosting this podcast is the people I've met because I host this podcast. One of the people I've had the pleasure of connecting with because of this podcast is Jed Kosch.   You may have seen Jed Kosch's “Rule of Thumb Thursdays” videos on LinkedIn, but before he started posting helpful articles and videos for water treatment professionals he graduated early from high school, majored in hydrology, worked in college as an environmental scientist and he currently works at Garratt-Callahan.  In today's interview, we're going to discuss how Jed's personal goals have led to a successful career in water treatment and some ways to stay current in an industry that is constantly evolving.    Bottom line: Jed Kosch is going to share how an early passion for hydrology turned into a successful career in water treatment.   Your roadside friend, as you travel from client to client.    -Trace     Timestamps:   The importance of investing [2:00]  Jed Kosch's water treatment career journey [10:00]  Wins and goals [15:30]  Day to day and staying current [18:40]  Problem solving and challenges [21:14]  Importance of learning and mentors [26:30]  Rule of Thumb Thursdays [29:01]  Industry integrity [35:35]  Lighting Round Questions [38:19]  James' Challenge: “Learn how steam traps operate.” [42:50]    Quotes:  “If you don't know how to steer, you'll never know if you've reached your destination.” - Trace Blackmore  “How are you investing in your day-to-day life?” - Trace Blackmore  “I want to positively impact other people as much as I can in a positive way.” - Jed Kosch  “I'm always looking for new and better ways to improve our craft.” - Jed Kosch  “Be curious.”  - Jed Kosch  “A LinkedIn article takes me about four to six hours to write.” - Jed Kosch  “Keep your moral integrity and stay truthful to yourself.” - Jed Kosch  “Become obnoxiously passionate about whatever craft you are pursuing.”  - Jed Kosch  “Leadership is giving people a small piece to help them get to the next level.”  - Jed Kosch    Connect with Jed Kosch:  Phone: (920) 809 -9710  Email: jed_kosch@yahoo.com  Website: garrattcallahan.com  LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/jedkosch    Links Mentioned:  Episode 128: Pinks and Blues: Tonnage X3  The Rising Tide Mastermind  Submit a Show Idea    Books Mentioned:  Financial Peace University - Dave Ramsey  The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People- Stephen Covey  How to Win Friends & Influence People - Dale Carnegie  The Go-Giver  - John David Mann  Levels of the Game - John McPhee  The Churchill Factor: How One Man Made History - Boris Johnson  The Secret - Rhonda Byrne  Outliers - Malcolm Gladwell

Book 9 of the Leadership Book Mastermind series is Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. In this stunning new book, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers"--the best and the brightest, the most famous and the most successful. He asks the question: what makes high-achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: that is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing. Along the way he explains the secrets of software billionaires, what it takes to be a great soccer player, why Asians are good at math, and what made the Beatles the greatest rock band. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/elitemicrobooks/support

Zašto su neki uspješniji a neki manje uspješni? O iznimno uspješnim ljudima obično kolaju priče o njihovoj pameti i ambiciji. Believe it or not, a lot of our success boils down to the relationships we have with others. It's dependant on the type of environment we set up around ourselves. In the book Outliers Malcolm Gladwell observes: "When we see the tallest tree in a forest, we know that it has come from a good seed. But we must also take into account that it has been planted in good soil, and that its leaves have been able to reach the sunlight unimpeded, that it was not shadowed by some larger tree. The tree’s good seed is its “innate” ability, but the combination of its circumstances have allowed it to achieve great heights." Malcom Gladwell - Outliers The same can be said for when you consider personal growth. The people we surround ourselves with will have a large impact on the person we become. Even further, the quality of the relationships we have with those around us will impact the level of effectiveness those interactions have. On October 6th, 2019 The Modern Man Panel and I sat down to discuss the importance of relationships and how they can positively or negatively affect us. We all know that one person that sucks the room dry once they arrive. Or the life of the party who is sure to get the energy going. Just like these two extremes can shape a room, the mild middle can slowly and affectedly alter your life. Cultivate the relationship you want to have with other people. Invite people to see the real issues you face. Finally, use vulnerability as a tool of strength, not a shield of weakness. Take a listen as Tyler Harris, Charles Russ, Tim Pecoraro, Jonathan Parker and I unpack what it means for men to improve the relationships in their lives.

Have you ever had a situation happen to you that you didn’t think you could bounce back from?  That’s what Jasmine Johnson had when she found out she was pregnant right before she went to med school.  She talks about how she had to get over the “shame” and opinion of others to accomplish what she thought at one point was impossible.  If she can go to med school with a family, you have no excuse!   Now she’s a doctor specializing high risk pregnancies and we had a great conversation around her story, how she made it by staying focused and relying on her support system.  But my favorite part of the episode was discussing why black women are the most high risks for death during pregnancy. She breaks it down for me why that’s happening and how her role is to change this.      In this episode we talk about: Black women and the maternal mortality rate being 10 times as high Getting over rejection Self care - making your health a priority Working out to Beyonce videos - such a smart idea!   The Glow Up Toolbox Books:   Year of Yes - Shonda Rhymes The Immortal life of Henrietta Lacks - Rebecca Skloot Eat That Frog - Brian Tracy Start With Why - Simon Sinek, Outliers - Malcolm Gladwell   Audiobooks: Audible Libby   Beyonce workout video: Coachella 2018 performance   Click here for a FREE full guide on how to stay productive when life gets in the way   5 steps black women can do to ensure they have a successful birth Make sure you’re healthy before pregnancy Be sure to get prenatal care Speak up or find another provider if you don’t feel listened to Bring someone with you to your visits who can speak up for you Write a letter to policy makers.  Patients have voices which will ultimately change what happens.   Questions about this episode? Outliers - by Malcolm Gladwell 'The Story of Success'   What seemingly arbitrary fact is common amongst the top Canadian Hockey players? Why are all of today's software billionaires born between 1954-1956? Why did Jews dominate to New York legal landscape in the 1980s, when they struggled to get jobs in the prior decade? Why are Asians so good at math?? Outliers looks beyond individual achievement. Gladwell is less concerned with what the people who achieve success are like, and more interested in where they come from, who their parents are, and what opportunities they are afforded.    Join our monthly book club and get bonus episodes: www.patreon.com/whatyouwilllearn Grab a copy of the book here: https://www.bookdepository.com/Outliers-Malcolm-Gladwell/9780316056281/?a_aid=adamasbooks
