Let's start with, What the Heck is a Hack? A hack is a small change or a shortcut designed to improve your life. Today's guest, Zora Benhamou, is the Queen of Midlife Health Hacks. She's also someone who, despite living a very active life, ended up with osteoarthritis. She tried to avoid surgery for as long as possible. How was she able to do that? She used a few health hacks to get as much "life" out of her hips as possible. She tried PRP, physical therapy, and an anti-inflammatory diet. On the podcast, she discusses a few more hacks that you've got to hear about! Let's also talk about scars. Zora ended up with two hip replacements, and she tried a few different hacks to lessen her scarring. She used a copper peptide cream on one scar and a different product on the other. The copper peptide scar improved so much that she started using it on both wounds, and she's thrilled with the results! I just bought this copper peptide cream, Zora suggested using the link below (20% off!) https://www.vitaliskincare.com/discount/cancerwarrior?ref=cbkmpsij ____ Water Filtration: Boroux I've been looking for a water filter for two years. Okay, maybe I'm a little picky...but my research paid off. I've chosen the Boroux Filter system and am really happy with it. Are you curious about my criteria? Here's what I was looking for in a filter: Removal of heavy metals. The Boroux removes 99.36% of heavy metals. Pharmaceuticals are removed. Because people don't dispose of drugs properly, the drugs get into our water system. The Boroux removes 99.5% of pharmaceutical contaminants. Glyphosate removal (glyphosate is the active ingredient in Roundup and is a known carcinogen). A year ago, I was tested for glyphosate and was in the 95th percentile. I was shocked! Since I was already eating mainly organic, my doctor suggested getting a water filter. I had a challenging time finding one that would filter this chemical, and this was one of my main drivers for purchasing this filter. Boroux has a special offer for my community. I first heard about it from Dr. Mark Hyman, and even though it was a bit of a splurge compared to what I usually spend, I'm so glad I invested. Why are childhood cancers on the rise? Is there any news more heartbreaking than hearing about another child diagnosed with cancer? Reflecting on my own childhood, I remember a friend from seventh grade who was diagnosed with cancer. Surprisingly, that was the only case I encountered from kindergarten all the way through my college graduation. What has changed in our world that has exponentially increased the risk of cancer for our children and young people? I spoke with Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner Season Johnson. She is also a cancer mom who helped her son battle cancer for nearly four years. Her son is thriving now, and she shares tips and guidance on how to help protect your kids from this disease. She offered some tips I hadn't even considered, and now I'm implementing them! Please listen to the episode and share this information with all your friends who are parents or grandparents! P.S. I've only "met" Season online, but last month, while I was in San Diego, I saw her walking down the street with a cup of coffee. I ran over to say hi—what a small world! ____ Water Filtration: Boroux I've been looking for a water filter for two years. Okay, maybe I'm a little picky...but my research paid off. Oh, if I had a time machine and could return to when our kids were young, I would. I made my life complicated because I made our meals complicated. Let me explain: I became a mom at 40. I married Steve, who had two precious (most of the time ) daughters. So, I became an instant mom to two preteens, and as a bonus, I could finally use my nutrition training on my family. Hmmm...do you see any potential problems? I would make elaborate, nutrient-dense multi-course meals. These meals were so much work that I was almost too tired to eat or clean the kitchen. When the kids complained that the lunches I packed could feed three of their friends, it didn't faze me a bit. But they were so much work! We would order pizza if I was running late from work and couldn't make the elaborate meals. I couldn't seem to find the middle ground. As I shared this story with today's podcast guest, Dr. Tabatha Barber, she explained that most of her meals can be put together in 20 minutes or less—I say YES to that idea! Dr. Tabatha is the author of Fast To Faith, a best-selling book that contains her 20-minute or less recipes. ______ Ground Luxe When I was forced into menopause with my cancer diagnosis, restful sleep NO LONGER HAPPENED FOR ME. One of my podcast guests shared that he has become a great sleeper, partly thanks to grounding sheets. After my skepticism passed, my desperation to sleep took over. I started reading articles, and I discovered that the science is solid. Studies have shown that participants using grounding sheets experience a significant drop in cortisol levels, leading to improved sleep quality and reduced stress. What did I have to lose? I researched, found the best grounding sheets on the market for the best price, and bought them. It took me a few nights, but I sleep much deeper now. I fall asleep faster and wake up feeling refreshed! I wish someone had told me about these sheets years ago. I contacted the company, and they offered my community a 20% discount! https://groundluxe.com/deborahenos Use the code Enos20 for 20% off. ______ Air Dr. I've been using the Air Doctor air purifier for almost a year and absolutely love it! What a treat to have Dr. Tabatha Barber, author of the best-selling book Fast To Faith, on the podcast. She explained that our bodies function like a chemistry experiment. When we think in a certain way, we produce chemicals that can have positive or negative effects. I don't know about you, but I do find it shocking that the thoughts I think can create chemical messengers in my body that can heal me or harm me. You have so much more power than you realize! We also discussed a topic near and dear to my heart, JOY. Where's your joy? If we put everyone else first, that will steal your happiness. Dr. T. explained that we get caught up in the lie that taking care of ourselves is selfish. She said that she felt God tell her that caring for herself wasn't selfish but SELF PRESERVATION. Dr. Tabatha shared simple tips that can help you to change your mindset and increase your daily joy. Please enjoy part one of this conversation and join us next week when we talk about 20-minute or less dinners, fasting, and her lifelong battle with depression. ______ Young Living Here's the link to my favorite essential oil kit from Young Living! In today's episode, we are joined by my naturopathic oncologist, Dr. Laura James. As you listen to our discussion, it's essential to acknowledge the whirlwind that accompanies a cancer diagnosis. For many, including myself, the speed at which treatment unfolds can be both a blessing and a challenge. The urgency of medical intervention, coupled with the support of excellent health insurance and the unique circumstances of the COVID-19 era, can lead to a swift entry into what is commonly referred to as the breast cancer industrial complex. But what exactly does this term mean? It's a new concept that encompasses medical advancements, institutional processes, and societal expectations surrounding cancer treatment. While grateful for the prompt attention and care received, there's an underlying need to address the implications of this fast-paced medical industry. For me, and perhaps for many others, navigating the breast cancer industrial complex has raised questions about agency, reflection, and informed decision-making. The speed at which decisions are made can sometimes overshadow the opportunity for thorough consideration, prayer, and seeking second opinions—elements crucial to holistic well-being. Together with Dr. James, we'll explore the importance of empowerment in the face of medical urgency, the role of advocacy in navigating treatment pathways, and the significance of holistic approaches to cancer care. ______ Air Dr. I've been using the Air Doctor air purifier for almost a year and absolutely love it! In the 1970s, Santa Cruz, California, became known by a title no one else wanted - “Murder City.” Between 1970 and 1973, a series of murders rocked the once peaceful beach community. Before it was all over, residents would live through unimaginable horrors - a prominent family wiped out in a mass murder by a deranged killer and not one but two serial killers stalking their streets at the same time. In this 3-part series, we'll travel back in time to experience those three terrifying years in Santa Cruz - 1970 to 1973 - beginning with the mass murder of a prominent doctor and his family. Just as the court was determining the first killer's fate, another was making Santa Cruz his home and hunting grounds. His crimes would make him one of the most infamous serial killers on record. This episode is brought to you by BiOptimizers, Levels, and Air Doctor. What if there was one key nutrient that could boost your health, increase longevity, reduce chronic inflammation, and lower your risk of Alzheimer's? You've probably heard of it: omega-3! But here's the surprising part—over 90% of the population has suboptimal omega-3 levels. Today on The Dhru Purohit Show, we're revisiting one of our favorite episodes with Dr. Bill Harris, a world-renowned researcher, to dive into decades of research on omega-3s and their powerful impact on health. Dr. Harris explains the correlation between optimal omega-3 levels and longer life spans, reduced rates of depression, anxiety, and Alzheimer's, as well as their role in lowering chronic inflammation. As one of the most researched nutrients—and among the top three that can drastically improve health—omega-3s are essential. In this episode, Dr. Harris shares insights on choosing quality fish and supplements, understanding optimal omega-3 levels, and testing your levels through the OmegaQuant Institute. If you're looking for inspiration to prioritize omega-3s in your diet, this conversation is a must-listen! William S. Harris, PhD, FASN, has been a leading researcher in the field of omega-3 fatty acids for 40 years. He has authored over 300 scientific papers on fatty acids and health, served on the faculty of three medical schools, and received five NIH grants to study omega-3s. Dr. Harris co-authored three American Heart Association (AHA) statements on fatty acids and heart health. As the co-inventor of the Omega-3 Index and other omega-3 blood tests, as well as the founder of OmegaQuant Analytics, Dr. Harris has been ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide for the impact of his research. In this episode, Dhru and Dr. Harris dive into: Higher levels of omega-3's lead to a longer life (00:00:35) Omega-3s are in the top three nutrients that can improve our health (3:00) Mindblowing research on smokers and the protective nature of omega-3s (5:25) The link between low omega-3s, depression, mood, and anxiety (16:12) High levels of omega-3s and their correlation to reducing the risk for dementia and Alzheimer's (20:21) The research behind omega-3's and reducing chronic inflammation (28:32) The average omega-3 levels versus optimal levels (30:45) What has led to omega-3 deficiencies and the rise in ultra-processed food consumption (31:10) Reducing triglyceride levels with fish oil and the impact on our cells (32:43) What are EPA, DHA, and ALA, and the sources of each (36:35) How much fish consumption is optimal, and what kind (44:40) Testing your levels via the Omega-3 index and optimal ranges (49:40) Choosing the right fish oil and general dosage (59:10) Testing pregnant women and children (1:22:40) Why the omega-3s aren't being tested for and prescribed by every doctor (1:26:00) Also mentioned in this episode: Testing via OmegaQuant Fatty Acid Research Insitute For more on Dr. Harris, follow OmegaQuant via Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. How often do you hear people say, "I'm so stressed!"? I admit that I find myself saying it at least a few times a week. Today's podcast guest is Kerstin Lindquist, a QVC host and stress expert. After witnessing her mother battle dementia and experience "black spots" on her brain that doctors attributed to stress, Kerstin researched and identified 20 strategies—ranging from simple to complex—to help reorganize your life. They spend their free time traveling to places with water, sun, and sand. www.kerstin-lindquist.com _______ Amazon Store When I began detoxing my life after being diagnosed with cancer, I felt overwhelmed and confused. I thought I was already making good health choices, but the more I researched, the more I discovered that small changes could lead to significant improvements. For instance, switching from tea bags to loose-leaf tea can help prevent additional microplastics from accumulating in my body. These plastic particles can affect my hormones and contribute to inflammation. This was such a simple swap! I was so encouraged that I started to make more simple swaps. And now, I have an Amazon Store listing many of my favorite detox tips! Click here to check to see my simple swaps. _______ Air Doctor I've been using the Air Doctor air purifier for almost a year, and I absolutely love it! This is an often overlooked area of exposure to environmental toxins that can lead to poor health. On this episode of Vitality Radio, Jared interviews Mike Meade from Triad Aer and they discuss an innovative way of cleaning the air in your home. Most products on the market filter the air, but Triad Aer uses a totally different technology that causes particles in the air to fall to the ground to be vacuumed up during your regular cleaning. This technology targets particles smaller than any air filter can catch! I love answering questions! And, well, I also love reflecting, so there you go ;) Let's start with the questions I received this month: Questions: 1: How do I train myself to stay calm? I am making an effort to stay in a peaceful state. I focus on pressing the pause button before I respond, remembering to pause and take intentional breaths. I learned these techniques from reading the book Breath. Additionally, I move my body several times daily and stand during work calls or podcast recordings. I also take 1-2 exercise classes each week. I also use essential oils such as lavender and "calming" blend I buy from Young Living Oils (link below!). Resources: Dwell Bible App Essential oils, young living Class Pass Breath, The New Science of a Lost Art (book) 2: How do I transition from summer to fall with food, activity, and self-care? I transition from salads to warmer foods such as grilled veggies, protein, and soups. I still go outside every morning, rain or shine, and look toward the sunrise, as this helps reset my circadian rhythm, which helps me fall asleep faster and stay asleep. I use Class Pass to stay active, which allows me to move my workouts inside if the weather is terrible. I can also use Class Pass while traveling to try different workouts. I love it! I protect my sleeping environment by lowering the lights at night and wearing my blue light blockers (this helps my body produce more melatonin). We also use an Air Doctor machine in our bedroom; I bought one because so many people I respect in this field were talking about them, and I love it! And it provides a little white noise as well, a win-win. Resources: Air Doctor Sleep Mask Bon Charge (blue light-blocking glasses) _________ Young Living Essential Oils I love! I have FINALLY found an essential oil company that I LOVE! I use the Young Living brand of oils because I'm impressed with their quality and commitment to sourcing the best products with the least environmental impact. I'm not easy to impress! In this episode of Over It and On With It, Christine coaches Gloria, who grapples with balancing anxiety and confidence. Gloria's core wound stems from childhood abandonment, which causes her to feel unsafe in expressing herself fully, especially in public settings. Although she has a supportive partner and is pursuing trauma-informed coaching, her fears of rejection and failure in her new career keep resurfacing. Christine helps Gloria navigate her anxiety and step into her confidence by guiding her to detach from the narrative she tells herself about being "too much." Consider/Ask Yourself: Do you struggle with balancing anxiety and confidence in your personal or professional life? Is your core wound rooted in abandonment or rejection, making you feel unsafe in being your authentic self? Do you talk yourself out of pursuing something because of fear of rejection or failure? How do you react to feedback or criticism? Do you internalize it or use it as a learning tool? Are you ready to step out of your story and into your authentic power? Gloria's Key Insights & Aha Moments: Gloria recognizes that her fear of rejection ties back to childhood wounds of feeling abandoned and "too much." She acknowledges that despite her current partner being emotionally supportive, her fear of public speaking and judgment continues to manifest. Christine helps Gloria realize that her story of always being in "fight or flight" is not her reality, and she has made more progress than she gives herself credit for. By shifting focus from her fear to her strengths, Gloria can step into confidence. How to Get Over It & On with It: Practice emotional grounding and self-affirmation to challenge the narrative of being too much or too anxious. Use movement or expressive outlets like dancing to release anxiety and reconnect with your true essence. Reframe nervousness or anxiety as a natural response to stepping outside of your comfort zone, not as a sign of incapability. Trust that confidence grows through action, even when you feel nervous—courage is built by doing the hard thing. Born and raised in Minnesota, Maha Abouelenein made the brave decision to move back to Egypt at 27 to care for her mother. In the process, she took up a job she felt overqualified for—secretary to a billionaire. That job turned out to be the catalyst for an incredible journey from "front office" to business partner, eventually leading Maha to become the communications lead for giants like Google, Netflix, and the ruler of Dubai. In this episode, Maha shares her playbook for success: embracing discomfort, building authentic relationships, and staying resilient in the face of challenges. She recounts the valuable lessons learned from her father, the importance of reputation as an entrepreneur, and how she rebuilt her life at 50 after returning to the US during the pandemic. Maha also discusses her book, 'The Seven Rules of Self-Reliance,' as a guide for aspiring entrepreneurs. It's not just about independence—it's about knowing when to ask for help, creating opportunities rather than waiting for them, and investing in the relationships that matter most. "If you're asked to do something and you're not sure you can, say yes. You'll learn a lot about yourself." ~ Maha Abouelenein In This Episode: - Moving back to Egypt: a leap of faith - From secretary to business partner - The power of relationships and building trust - Why reputation matters in entrepreneurship - Practical tips on investing in relationships - Rebuilding a business amidst a pandemic - Visibility is your responsibility: why storytelling matters - Turning struggles into strengths - "Unlearn, relearn, and invest in yourself" - Don't be a waiter, be a creator - Learning from failed goals and then building resilience - Tips for finding mentors and seeking guidance - Maha's perspective on giving value - The two unspoken rules of self-reliance About Maha Abouelenein: Maha is the CEO and Founder of Digital & Savvy, a global communications consulting firm with a presence in the USA, Dubai, and Egypt. With over 30 years of PR experience, she has worked with global corporations, high-growth tech startups, governments, and thought leaders. Maha is passionate about nurturing meaningful relationships and using storytelling to build a reputation. Raised in the USA by Egyptian parents, Maha comfortably bridges Western and Arab cultures. In this episode of "Over It and On With It," Christine Hassler coaches Tina, who struggles with fear and doubt regarding her dreams of finding a partner and starting a family. At 41, Tina has done significant personal work to connect with herself and remain grounded in her feminine energy. However, she often experiences panic and doubt, mainly when influenced by external messages about age and time. Through their coaching session, Christine helps Tina explore the root causes of her panic and teaches her how to form a deeper connection with her inner child. This approach enables Tina to navigate her fears more effectively and stay aligned with her desires. Christine explains that Tina's fear and panic are not just obstacles but are rooted in protective mechanisms formed in her childhood. By addressing these fears with compassion and understanding, Tina can move past them and create space for her dreams to manifest. Consider/Ask Yourself: Do you sometimes believe in your dreams but get pulled off course by doubt and fear? Do you panic when doubt and fear arise, thinking you're sabotaging your desires? Have you done personal work but still find specific patterns, like fear or doubt, that are hard to change? Do you have a deep, nurturing connection with the younger parts of yourself? The Guest's Key Insights & A-HA's: Tina's fear and doubt are deeply connected to her inner child, who experienced instability and uncertainty in her early years. Christine identifies that Tina's panic is a form of protection, a response she developed to feel safe when her environment was unpredictable. By acknowledging and communicating with her inner child, Tina can begin to alleviate her fears and doubts, allowing her to stay aligned with her dreams. The coaching session emphasizes the importance of developing a deeper relationship with oneself, especially the parts that feel fear, doubt, and insecurity. How to Get Over It & On With It: Recognize that fear and doubt are not signs of failure but messages from parts of yourself that need care and attention. Develop a consistent practice of checking in with your inner child or younger self, offering reassurance and understanding. Allow yourself to feel your emotions fully without rushing to fix or change them. This will create a more authentic and healing experience. Integrate new, supportive beliefs by connecting with your inner child and affirming that you are safe and supported in your journey. Show Sponsor: This week's episode is sponsored by Air Doctor. This episode is brought to you by Lumebox and Air Doctor. Our modern world is saturated with blue light exposure, from our devices at home to those in the workplace. With chronic exposure to artificial light and insufficient exposure to sunlight, we often overlook the long-term impact on our circadian rhythms. Today's guest joins us to raise awareness about blue light exposure and urges us to make simple changes in our daily routines to mitigate the risk of chronic disease. Today, on The Dhru Purohit Show, Dhru sits down with Dr. Martin Moore-Ede. Dr. Moore-Ede discusses the risks of chronic blue light exposure and its impact on our health. Specifically, he highlights alarming research showing how it disrupts our circadian rhythms and increases breast cancer rates among women with exposure. Dr. Moore-Ede also explores the correlation between light exposure and obesity and sheds light on why these dangers aren't widely discussed in mainstream media. Dr. Martin Moore-Ede is a highly respected expert in circadian rhythms and light's impact on our health. As a former professor at Harvard Medical School, he has conducted extensive research on the role of light in regulating our sleep-wake cycles and overall well-being. Dr. Moore-Ede's groundbreaking work includes the discovery of the suprachiasmatic nucleus, a crucial biological clock in the brain that controls our daily rhythms. He has contributed significantly to our understanding of how blue light, particularly from LED sources, can disrupt our circadian rhythms and lead to various health issues, such as obesity, diabetes, and even breast cancer. With his expertise, Dr. Moore-Ede advocates for adopting better lighting practices, emphasizing the importance of using the right type of light at the right time to optimize employee health and productivity.
