“And that's where there's a difference of culture too. I think in our culture, ego can be a good thing too. Ego inspires people. It pushes them along. It gives them perhaps determination and perseverance , but I think we do have a lot more ego in our culture when it comes to relationships, compared to others in different cultures. In Argentina, no one has any shame in saying or admitting love for another person, even if it doesn't go anywhere. Even if it's just an admiration. Whereas in our culture, I think a lot of people don't want rejection, there's a fear of rejection and feeling stupid. Think of how many people miss opportunities of developing a relationship or even a friendship with someone by feeling a bit silly or not wanting to appear foolish. It's a very different culture. I think I like that culture more.”Episode #89 of The Hope Initiative with Melinda Watts.Family by association and the cousin of my Dad, Melinda and I had never had a conversation like this prior. Melinda grew up near where I've spent most of my life thus far, and whilst we've had plenty of opportunities to get to know each other, as what can often happen throughout the years with big families, you simply don't. An incredibly optimistic woman, she shares how she turned her early life of illness into a life of growth and good health. Finding love in uncertain times was also a topic and we delved into the role porn and feminism play in families.A great conversation and one I'm really proud of.Big love to Melinda for having me at her house for this one. Please enjoy!SHOW LINKSBreak Free TherapiesThat Instagram video on Feminism I referenced in the conversationFollow and connect with the podcast on Instagram and Twitter.Music by Jess Fairlie.

Happy Monday! Happy Monday from the One Life Radio team! We hope everyone had a safe and fun holiday weekend, and took some time to reflect and practice mindfulness. Today we have resident Earth Mama, Autumn Warren Connolly, and Professional Marketer, Jason Harris. Autumn Warren Connolly Autumn Warren Connolly tells the listeners all about "Raiki." Raiki is a step by step process where you transfer energy to heal. You do not have to be a professional to practice Raiki! Autumn says that practicing small positive habits use energy healing. Some benefits of Raiki include relaxation of the central nervous system. Raiki has the capability to heal your body naturally by taking away the fear and pain. Emotional healing has allowed Autumn to completely be able to restart her day at the drop of a hatch. It removes the emotional baggage. Bernadette says to remember the four agreements! Jason Harris Co-Founder and CEO of Mekanism, Jason Harris is back again to discuss how to market yourself successfully. Jason and Bernadette discuss how influencers have a way of being original and that is what attracts their followers. Influencers started out more genuine, but when they started to get paid, watching their day-to-day became not genuine. Social media as a whole has become less genuine because of money. Looks have become a large part of social media, which has taken a toll on body image especially for young people. Bernadette and Jason agree that constant advertisement is a turn off, so it actually does the opposite of what it is suppose to. Thank You Thank you to Autumn Warren Connolly and Jason Harris for lifting our spirits on this sluggish Monday. If you would like to purchase Jason Harris' book, "The Soulful Art Of Persuasion," check out this link! Thank you to all of our One Life Radio listeners. We truly appreciate each and every one of you, so If you’d like to hear more from One Life Radio, please subscribe to our podcast. Together with a multidisciplinary team, Catalina Lotero is tackling the global energy crisis with a surprisingly simple, plant-based idea. The Colombian-born American, who studied industrial design in Bogotá, Colombia, and is currently doing her Masters in design at Keio University in Tokyo, came up with the sustainable solution to solve a pressing problem. One in eight people worldwide does not have access to electricity, with 84% of them living in rural areas. Lotero’s ‘Raiki’ – essentially an autonomous generator – is sure to be a game-changing project. This conversation was one of the inspiring interactions I had at Design Indaba earlier this year. Catalina and I discussed how her ground breaking research works, the creative process, some of the larger issues facing us as humanity and a one of my biggest take aways was that some of the things we are doing to try and solve our problems might be creating even more. We also explored the concept of soft power where we can accept mistakes, be ok with being wrong and take a collaborative approach to solving problems. Enjoy this fat dose of inspiration.
--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/alexyjose/message
Delfi „Eriolukorra erisaate“ otseliinil on Katri Raik, kes räägib, milline on praegu Ida-Virumaa majanduse olukord ja mida seal peaks ette võtma. Valitsus jätkab arutelu kiirete meetmete üle, millega toetada Ida-Virumaa põlevkivisektorit. Just seal valitud riigikogulane Katri Raik räägib, et taaskord üritab valitsus ühekordse rahasüstiga päästa piirkonna suurtööstust. Saatejuht on Raimo Poom.
In June, I will be traveling to Kyoto, Japan for the 5thWorld Parkinson Congress(WPC). WPC is a global Parkinson's event that opens its doors to all members of the Parkinson's community, from neurologists and researchers to those living with the disease. Since my diagnosis in August 2017, I’ve launched the podcast When Life Gives You Parkinson’s. As an extension of that podcast, I have teamed up with the World Parkinson Coalition to help preview WPC2019. Etienne Hirsch is Director of the French National Institute for Neuro Science, neurology and psychiatry. He’s a board member and chair for the basic science program committee for this year’s WPC. In his plenary talk, Hirsch will be examining the question, “Are we moving towards personalize medicine?” Hirsch isn’t hiding his passion for the topic, “I think that it is the most important challenge these days for Parkinson's disease.” He adds, “By the way I should not say Parkinson's disease, I should say Parkinson's diseaseswith an “s.” The concept is that everyone diagnosed with Parkinson’s is not dealing with the same disease, but different diseases that deserve different treatments. Much of Hirsch’s work revolves his belief that inflammation may actually trigger the events that lead to the death of the dopamine producing brain cells. He recalls that, until recently, it was a controversial theory, “Some people were even laughing saying that neuro inflammation is a consequence of neuron degeneration. And now we know that in fact the neuro inflammatory processes are not just a consequence of neuron degeneration. These events really participate to the cascade of events leading to degeneration in the past.” In his workshop, Hirsch will help lead a discussion around why some cells degenerate in people with Parkinson’s and some do not. Eli Pollard, Executive Director of the World Parkinson Coalition, which is the organization that hosts the triennial World Parkinson Congress is expecting just over 3,000 people to attend the event in Kyoto. She encourages participants to check out “Wellness Way” which features free fitness and exercises classes in the renewal room, complimentary massage and Raiki, the Care Partner Lounge, there is a Quiet Room for people who might need to escape the crowds or take a quick nap. There’s also a clinical research village sponsored by the Michael J. Fox Foundation and with in-kind support from the Cure Parkinson's Trust. “It is a space for just people to learn about clinical research clinical trials what you should ask if you want to engage in a clinical trial.” Pollard continues, “What are your rights as a participant in a clinical trial? What do you need to know before you sign on the dotted line?” The research village will be open all the hours that the exhibit halls. Finally, Pollard has some last minute packing tips. She recommends you pack comfortable clothes and a rain coat, because it’s going to be hot and it is the rainy season in Kyoto. While some attendees will be wearing shorts, there will be air conditioning in the conference center, so pants may be more appropriate if you tend to be cold. Do not forget to bring a pen and pad of paper to take notes and trade information with other attendees, unless you are using your phone or tablet. Most importantly, if you are a person with Parkinson’s, Pollard urges you to pack at least twice the amount of medication you think you will need and better yet, pack three times the amount. She recommends you spread it out between your carry on, your checked luggage and your travel companion. Each episode of the WPC2019 Podcast, I check in with James Heron, the Executive Director of the Japanese-Canadian Cultural Centre. This week, we wrap up our Japanese tutorial with a hodge-podge of tips and insights. Key among them is to speak directly and clearly. In North America, we tend to use idioms like “pulling-your-leg,” “bite-the-bullet,” and “dime a dozen.” When literally translated by a Japanese speaker, these phrases can be confusing. Heron uses “pulling-your-leg” as an example, “There is an expression in Japanese, ashi o hipparu, which means you have to pull someone's leg which actually means to purposefully hold someone back, to make them fail, almost to sabotage someone.” Follow me, Larry Gifford Twitter: @ParkinsonsPod Facebook: Facebook.com/ParkinsonsPod Instagram: @parkinsonspod For more info on the World Parkinson Congress head to www.WPC2019.org Facebook: Facebook.com/WorldPDCongress/ Twitter: @WorldPDCongress YouTube: WorldPDcongress Instagram: @worldpdcongress Thank you to: Etienne Hirsch, Director French National Institutes of neurosciences, cognitive sciences, neurology and psychiatry. Kendra is a woman of many trades. Honestly, it would be hard to sum up all of her capabilities. In addition to being a certified occupational therapist, she currently owns and runs a health clinic in which she can practice some of her other skills such as Bowenwork, Raiki, and Essential Oil Therapy. She may have the most engaging series of brain injuries I have ever heard, including suffering a neck injury after having a piece of asphalt thrown at her during riots in her Grand Rapids, Michigan. Enjoy! Her story starts at 3:20
We sat down on the 4th of July for a half episode to reflect on our weekend and lay out a battle plan for the second Civil War. This would've been longer, but we were late to join the 76th Raiki battalion. Hope you still have all of your fingers and toes! Photo by Trent Yarnell on Unsplash
Nicholas Upchurch is a Digital Marketer. In fact, he has owned companies that have generated millions of dollars in sales in relatively short periods of time. He’s obviously successful at business, but it was something completely different that changed Nicholas’s life. That was when he visited the Sacred Valley of Peru. As a result, he has now dedicated his life to helping people find their true purpose and while doing it, succeed in business along the way. Contact Info Website: www.Believe.love Podcast: Believe Most Influential Person My Mother. My mother and I are very alike. These things that are deep inside of us. Sometimes we think they're really bad because our parents are doing ___(fill in the blank), and making us crazy. But actually, it's a great gift because maybe now I can see things from a different perspective. It will help me to love what I think I should hate about whatever happened growing up and things that our parents do that make us crazy. Effect on Emotions My emotions are becoming more harmonized. When I feel cycles, whatever the cycles are; some days are bad and some are good. Right now I could be more centered, but the world is what it is so I'm happy to be the way I am right now. Mindfulness is just a realization. It's awareness. My emotions are becoming more in harmony, the more that I'm loving and accepting and letting the energy flow through all those cycles and appreciating it versus feeling guilty and hating it. Thoughts on Breathing I could do this more. In Kundalini Yoga you do this for hours, and also in other practices too. You become a different person. For whatever reason, I didn't do that today. That's okay. If people don't do it every day, they do what they can. Probably we could say they should, but breathing can really be a life-changing thing. Suggested Resources Book: The Power by Rhonda Byrne App: Gaia.com (They have an app and also original programming ) Bullying Story I would say I bullied myself. I would say even on this interview and I would emphasize to people out there, I've been very peaceful, I've helped a lot of people. I've had really tough times that I've put myself through. We can resist. I have healed people remotely. That works. Raiki remotely, and moved bones. People that were very skeptical. When you're most mindful and things are opening up to you and there are some very amazing things that are possible. On the flip side, that strong (whether it's a masculine energy) that we can see as evil. It's just the strong potential. Think about if that energy was going in the right direction. That energy can be so strong, and as we start to harmonize, it can shift and we can bully ourselves and resist, because we think we're going to fail.

In this edition, we're taking a look at taiko group culture- the 'atmospheres' and 'funiki' of a group. Some are more 'Japanese' than others, but what does that mean? We talk about the seemingly arcane social hierarchies that exist in Japan, and how these are reflected in a place like a taiko group. Isaku and I talk about our personal experiences in taiko groups, and the senpai/kohai relationships that have existed there. Tip of the MonthWant to get better? Then take a video of yourself practicing and playing. We've all done it, but we tend to get lazy about it sometimes. In many ways it can be better than a mirror. If you find yourself in a rut, it might just be the key to get you over the hurdle.
