This week on Mental Fitness I'll be wrapping up my conversation with Anthony Jackson, a self defense and meditation instructor for Dao Concepts. We previously talked about the benefits of Tai Chi as well as the dangers of social media and lack of exercise. This week we focus on the importance of remaining present in the moment while dealing with the plethora of life's problems that are constantly present for us all. We also discuss some advice found in Anthony's new book as well as the importance of filling one's life with activities they genuinely enjoy.
This week I bring back Anthony Jackson, a Tai Chi and Self Defense Instructor for Dao Concepts. We previously had a conversation introducing him as well as his history leading to Tai Chi. This episode we dive into the specific benefits Tai Chi can have on those who are stressed. We also begin to dive into the negative effects of social media overload and how Tai Chi/Meditation can help relax those who are overloaded.
Send us a Text Message. Our theme this season is going to be: “How'd YOU Do That?”And we're going to talking to leaders who developed and executed a compelling recruiting strategy…that really worked. This week we're going to be connecting with Anthony Jackson.Anthony is the Vice President of Finance and Operations of Lyon Real Estate --one of the most prominent real estate companies in central California.About 18 months ago the Lyon executive team and managers set out to increase the % of experienced agents they brought into the company. And they've had great success, increasing experienced agent hiring by 180% in 2023. Anthony is going to walk us through this transition from a financial and operations perspective. I think you'll learn a lot from Lyon's journey and capture of some take aways you start using right away. Let's get started.
Send us a Text Message. When Lee Finkelstein lays down a beat, it's not just rhythm—he's telling a story, painting a landscape. It's a philosophy I, John Simeone, share wholeheartedly. Our recent conversation took us on a tour through the world of drumming, where we unpacked the essence of what it means to truly play for the music. Lee, with his wealth of experience across genres, emphasizes the idea that serving the song trumps personal showmanship. We riff on the camaraderie between drummers, the joy found in simplicity, and the magnetic pull of a groove that unites a band. The heartbeat of our episode pulses with discussions on live performance and the wisdom Lee shares gleaned from playing with legends like the Blues Brothers band and stepping in for David Garibaldi with Tower of Power. As we explore the shifting tides of the music industry, we offer nuggets of advice for up-and-coming drummers striving to stay relevant. Join us as we share stories of triumph, the humbling moments of our careers, and the lessons that resonate beyond the stage. It's a rhythmic ride that speaks to the core of every musician's spirit.Lee has recorded, performed with and backed up Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Nancy Wilson, Grover Washington Jr, Eric Gale, The Oregon Symphony Orchestra & Randy Brecker, Isaac Hayes, Eddie Floyd, Bette Midler, Blood Sweat & Tears, Russ Freeman, Julio Iglesias, Frankie Paul, Johnny Winter, Steve Cropper, Lou Marini, Will Lee, Paul Shafer, John Tropea, Leon Pendarvis, Alan Rubin, Saturday Night Live, Dave Valentine, Cornelius Bumpus, Anthony Jackson, Mary Wilson, Daryl Hall, John Oates, Hudson River Rats, Joey Ramone, Vaneese Thomas, Mario Cruz, Jens Wendelboe, Don Blackman, Oz Noy, Buzz Feiten, Neil Jason, Deena Miller, Dave Fields, Jay Prince, Bill Heller, Cosmic Oven, Derretub Snub, Hadrian Decree, Red Flannel Hash Band, Small Talk/Jim Small Band, The Paper Bag, Timberwolf, Yasgur's Farm, Jim Pin Band 5+2-1, Eclipse, Funk Filharmonik, The Zen Tricksters, Major Domo, Chick Singer Night NYC, Jonny Rosch, Bobby Harden, Stevie Cochran, Ed Palermo Big Band, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Wycliff Gordon, Marc Ribler, Jack Daley, JT Bowen, Southside Johhny, Bowling For Leftovers, Dead On Live, Felix Cavaliere and The Rascals, Felicia Collins, David Spinozza, Vernon Reid, Corey Glover, Bill Murray, Chris Noth, Ben Vereen, Friends of the Brothers, the Royal Scam and Paul Sorvino. Caribe (de la película "Two Much") 2. Descarga for Tito (Puente) 3. Anthony's Blues (dedicada a Anthony Jackson) 4. In 2003 I interviewed Dave Weckl, a drummer whose unique talent and fire had won him induction into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 2000. His performances with Paul Simon, George Benson, Michel Camilo, Robert Plant, Dave Grusin, Mike Stern and Anthony Jackson brought him public acclaim. But with his dynamic contribution to the Chick Corea Elektric Band and the Akoustic Band (1985 to 1991) Weckl became a jazz icon. In this interview, Weckl discusses his development, the influence of Steve Gadd, playing in complex meters, his sonic concepts, the use of computers, and his work with Chick Corea. He also talked about his albums as a leader and composer, revealing a thinking musician who blends razor sharp precision with passion. A mock "slave auction" at J.S. Waters Elementary School in early March reverberated throughout Chatham County and the state. In the wake of the incident — involving a number of students and not witnessed by any faculty or staff members — the community engaged in a series of public and private meetings to figure out how best to respond. At a Chatham County board of education meeting held soon after, Supt. Dr. Anthony Jackson provided a strong response: those kinds of behaviors, and any kind of hateful behaviors, would not be tolerated. He worked with his board, the administration and community leaders to develop a series of policies and practices to help guide Chatham County Schools in its response to the J.S. Waters event, and other similar events involving students that came to light afterward. In this episode of The Chatcast, we speak with Chris Poston, the Executive Director for Excellence and Opportunity for CCS, about what the school system has done in the three months since the incident.Mr. Poston is a Chatham County native, a graduate of Chatham County Schools, a veteran educator and former principal of the year.
In this reflective episode, we honor and celebrate Anthony Jackson as our first "original educator" or OE. An "OE" is an educator who has been in the game for more than 30 years and has retired. Anthony, formerly an administrator in the Los Angeles Unified School District, dedicated 40 years and is now newly retired. Hear his incredible journey to responsiveness as he reflects on an amazing career! Soon to be Dr. Jackson humbly describes where it all began at 99th Street Elementary in Watts and how he has bobbed and weaved his way through what we call the matrix, ending his career as a Director of Equitable Services. You will not be disappointed with all that is in between the beginning and the end, not to mention what is coming in his next chapter. Dr. Hollie also reflects on the idea of legacy and longevity, posing the reflective question to us all - what is or will be your legacy? What are you leaving behind?

TRACKS 1-Just Kiddin’ 2- Hello and Goodbye 3- Thinking of You 4-Why Not? 5-Not Yet 9-Suite Sandrine Part V CREDITS Michel Camilo Piano Dave Weckl Drums Anthony Jackson Bass Chris Hunter Alto Sax, Tenor Sax Lew Soloff Trumpet Sammy Figueroa, Guarionex Aquino Percussions

A műsor házigazdája Náray Erika.
Welcome back to the podcast, I'm Jamie Baynes. Today's guest is Lynne Hughes of Comfort Zone Camp. My friend Anthony Jackson reached out to me and said that he thought Lynne would be interested in being on the podcast and talking about Comfort Zone Camp. He gave me her number, I reached out to her and bam! Got her on the podcast. I'm going to let Lynne describe what Comfort Zone Camp does and I bet you'll be amazed at the number of kids that this wonderful program has helped. Before our interview begins, though, programming note. Toward the end of the interview, my phone dies and, obviously the call drops. So, there may be a small break in the conversation, but the phone reboots and the interview continues. For some reason, I always seem to have technical difficulties at the end of my interviews. Regardless, I really enjoyed talking to Lynne and I hope you enjoy the interview.
Welcome back to the podcast, I'm Jamie Baynes. In this episode, I interview Anthony Jackson, a lieutenant with the Richmond Police Department. But today, I'm not talking to him about Richmond police stuff. Instead, we talk about a program called Frontline Writers. This is a completely free class offered to first responders that was created by bestselling author and VCU professor David L. Robbins. Check out their website at frontlinewriters.orgAnd they're having a Reader Slam at Legends Brewery on August 27th, 2021 from 7pm to 9:30pm. Legends is located at 321 W. 7th Street, Richmond, VA 23224

Welcome to season two of Outrageous Love the Podcast! The first episode, dubbed the personal episode, features Dr. Hollie's daughter, Attorney Imani Hollie's journey to responsiveness. Imani shares her journey from the lenses of a daughter, a former student of the Culture and Language Academy of Success (CLAS) and as an attorney working in criminal law. The highlights of CLAS, a laboratory school for cultural responsiveness founded by Dr. Hollie, Anthony Jackson, and Janis Bucknor in 2003 are themed as well. For a fuller description of CLAS, check out the documentary, OASIS: The Story of CLAS. While the success of CLAS is celebrated, the tragic death of Daunte Wright is acknowledged and lamented. Will it ever end and what are we going to do different this time are the questions to be answered. Hear Dr. Hollie's "two cents" about the never-ending killings of BIPOC men and women at the hands of law enforcement. Season two, episode 1 is a celebration, an appreciation, and a call to action (again).

Ep. 140: Leslie Mandoki, "Music is the greatest unifier.." Let's Talk Off The Podium with Tigran Arakelyan. In this episode rockstar Leslie Mandoki talks about his early years in Hungary, being a refugee in Germany and eventual rise to stardom. In 1991, Ian Anderson, Jack Bruce, and Al Di Meola became founding members of Leslie Mandoki’s band project ManDoki Soulmates, and for almost three decades, Leslie Mandoki has continued to unite a “who is who” of the icons of Anglo-American and European rock and jazz- rock in the Mandoki Soulmates band. The remarkable lineups in the band’s recordings and performances over the years has included singers and players including Ian Anderson, Jack Bruce, David Clayton-Thomas, Chaka Khan, Chris Thompson, Bobby Kimball and Steve Lukather, Nick van Eede, Eric Burdon, Nik Kershaw, Greg Lake, Al di Meola, Randy and Michael Brecker, Cory Henry, Bill Evans, John Helliwell, Till Brönner, Klaus Doldinger, Mike Stern, Richard Bona, Anthony Jackson, Victor Bailey, Pino Palladino, Tony Carey, Mark Hart, Paul Carrack, Peter Frampton, and Jon Lord. The Soulmates concerts are marked by the musical synergy of all these musical icons united in one supergroup of Grammy award winning legends, where everyone’s egos come second. Original Soulmates compositions and collective improvisations on highest levels are just as much part of the concerts as world-renowned hits of the individual Soulmates members. “One stage – one band!” With his Soulmates Leslie Mandoki raises Jazz-Rock back to socio-political relevance, to quote him in his own words: “Even in times of Twitter, social media and short news on the smartphone, when mental laziness often blocks the perception, music for us is still like a love letter to our audience – handwritten with ink on paper.” This band is pure sophisticated JazzRock, or as Greg Lake (Emerson, Lake & Palmer) put it: “One of the best bands you will ever hear!”
Amigas, amigos, “Buenas vibraciones”.

It was recorded on November 25th, one day after the group reconvened at Abbey Road following a three-month hiatus. The break had allowed them to indulge their independent pursuits for essentially the first time in their adult lives and, more crucially, offered a respite from the increasingly chaotic and confining Beatle existence. The mania that surrounded them wherever they went led the group to swear off touring that August, immediately prior to their solo sabbaticals. The effect was rejuvenating for all, and they returned flush with potent new ideas and creative vigor. The first session held upon their November 24th reunion yielded an early take of Lennon’s haunting “Strawberry Fields Forever,” a song that marked the start of the Beatles’ reinvention as studio auteurs. The next day, after catching the U.K. debut of an American import named Jimi Hendrix at the newly opened Bag o’ Nails club, the Beatles gathered at a small studio in the New Oxford Street office of their music publisher, Dick James, to tape their latest holiday record. “We thought it was time we had an entirely different approach,” McCartney later said. Ultimately, the final product would contain no greetings, and very few references to the holidays. In retrospect, “Pantomime: Everywhere It’s Christmas,” a 10-part endeavor nearly seven minutes in length, is a signpost for what was to come for the band. Rather than address fans directly with messages of gratitude, the Beatles performed as distinct characters, foreshadowing the approach they would take when recording Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in the coming weeks. In keeping with the tradition of pantomime – a uniquely English brand of stage production blending music, slapstick comedy and folk tales – the snippets of original songs are rooted in English vaudevillian music-hall style. The title tune, a whirlwind pub piano sing-along played by McCartney, is not far removed from “When I’m Sixty-Four,” which they would begin recording in a matter of days. Much like Sgt. Pepper, “Pantomime: Everywhere It’s Christmas” feels largely driven by McCartney, who also drew the full-color art-nouveau illustration for the sleeve. The imaginative original story defies any logical description, ping-ponging from Corsica, where a “bearded man in glasses” conducts a small choir, to the Swiss Alps where “a pair of elderly Scotsmen munch on a rare cheese,” and to the “long, dark corridor of Felpin mansion,” home of the Germanic Count Balder. Instead of relying on Barrow, the Beatles took full use of George Martin’s experience producing comedy records with British radio legends like Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan. Together they created vivid soundscapes ranging from a rowdy royal celebration onboard the good ship H.M.S. Tremendous, to the charmingly gentle fairy tale of Podgy the Bear and Jasper. Though brief, the songs are evocative, and in some cases quite memorable. “Orowayna,” ostensibly sung by a Corsican choir, is a strangely beautiful pop hymnal that wouldn’t have sounded out of place on a Smile-era Beach Boys album, and the vaudevillian wink of “Please Don’t Bring Your Banjo Back (I Don’t Know Where it’s Been)” is as funny as it is bawdy. The Beatles’ loyal roadie Mal Evans delivers a sincere “Yes, everywhere it’s Christmas” before the proceedings skid to a stop with a reprise of the title song. As on their groundbreaking next LP, we come out the way we came in. The Beatles Christmas Record 1967 Now that the band had mastered their studio domain, the Beatles’ 1967 seasonal message – wrapped in a Sgt. Pepper–like collage of vintage photos created by Lennon and Starr – would be the apex of their Christmas recordings. Recorded back at Abbey Road’s Studio Two on November 28th during a nine-hour marathon session, “Christmas Time Is Here Again!” expands on the sketches of the previous year by adding the only performance among the Beatles’ holiday recordings that could safely be categorized as a proper “Christmas song.” The tune is little more than a holiday mantra, but the Beatles sell it through their full-throated commitment and a clever arrangement reminiscent of their new single, “Hello, Goodbye.” Lennon, ever fond of unusual count-ins (he can be heard intoning “Sugar plum fairy, sugar plum fairy” on early takes of “A Day in the Life”), introduces the song with a hastily exhaled “Interplanetary remix, take 444!” before a lushly multi-tracked chorus of Beatle voices remind listeners that Christmas time is indeed here again. The plot, scripted by the band the day before, makes about as much sense as “Everywhere It’s Christmas.” The story begins with the Beatles portraying a fictitious group called the Ravellers, on a quest to audition for the BBC. Once they’ve made it past the gatekeeper (played by their friend Victor Spinetti, who had appeared in A Hard Day’s Night, Help! and the yet-to-be-released Magical Mystery Tour) they perform a tap-dance in the “fluffy rehearsal room.” From there it all becomes a bit difficult to follow as the record fades into a fever dream of fractured broadcast clichés including jingles (“Wonderlust for your trousers!”), a noir radio drama called Theater Hour and a game show where the grand prize is a trip to Denver and automatic appointment to “independent candidate for Paddington.” The Ravellers, having apparently passed the audition, return to croon a tune about jam jars across the airwaves for the benefit of injured woman in Blackpool. A haze of maniacal echo-drenched laughter gives way to the regal voice of George Martin, addressing fans for the first time on the disc. “They’d like to thank you for a wonderful year,” he says with the tone of a kindly but exasperated schoolteacher, before the students repeat his words with mock reverence. Lennon signs off with a Goonish original poem, a sort of lonely Christmas “Jabberwocky” delivered in a thick Scottish brogue over the sound of a wintery gale. “When the beasty brangom button to the heather and little inn,” he says while “Auld Lang Syne” plays softly. “And be strattened oot in ma-tether to yer arms once back again. Och away, ye bonnie.” So ends the Beatles’ last documented recording of their extraordinary year. It would also be the final Christmas disc recorded together by the group as a unit.

K-Bo and Duke spend time hanging with drumming legend, Simon Phillips. Simon's credits include a who's-who of musicians including (just to name a limited few) Toto, The Who, Jack Bruce, Jeff Beck, Brian Eno, Anthony Jackson, David Gilmour, Big Country, Jon Anderson, Duncan Browne, Asia, Steve Hackett, Gary Moore, Steve Lukather, Mike Oldfield, Joe Satriani ,Michael Schenker, Hiromi, Judas Priest, his own band Protocol, and many more! Simon discusses what appears to be a trend toward smaller drum kits and his response is pretty enlightening. Aside from maintaining his status as both an in-demand session and touring/performing drummer, Simon his also recognized as a world-class recording engineer. He shares some interesting audio engineering history, and reveals how he began discovering and developing his own engineering techniques. He describes the process of adding bassist, Ernest Tibbs, to the Protocol lineup, and talks about the Protocol 30th anniversary tour. With regard to his enduring career, Simon opens up about playing drums hard. Simon talks about his drum sticks and the changes they went through; recording the legendary THERE AND BACK album with Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer; and then takes a detour to his racing hobby before returning to the topic of drumming.
Entre los numerosos artistas con quien Alphonso Johnson ha colaborado, podemos citar a: Chet Baker, Santana, Weather Report, The Crusaders, Bob Weir, Chuck Mangione, George Duke, En Vogue, Wayne Shorter, Sérgio Mendes, Tony Williams, Joe Williams, Gregory Hines, Neal Schon, Tom Coster, Dee Dee Bridgwater, Eric Gale, Ronnie Foster, Allan Holdsworth, Cannonball Adderley, Stanley Clarke, Woody Herman, Eddie Henderson, Flora Purim, Quincy Jones, Lee Ritenour, Phil Collins, Tom Scott, Steve Khan, The Whispers, John McLaughlin, Jeffrey Osborne, Sarah Vaughan, Dori Caymmi, Pino Daniele, Carl Anderson, Jeff Beck, Jan Hammer o Jimmy Page.
Conversations With Lamp - Anthony Jackson by James Lampkin

In the wake of what can only be described as a human tragedy - the election of Donald J. Trump as President of the United States - I think this conversation with past guest, Anthony Jackson, is apropos. The focus of this episode is human civilization, the myths that surround it, the cost and benefits of, and some somewhat uncommon ideas on how to look at this thing most assume is overwhelmingly positive. This is a premise questioning episode, a conversation where we go directly to the assumptions within the subconscious so take your time, open your mind, and question why you think what you think you know. And by all means, call us out on what we may have gotten wrong. Cheers!

Anthony and I continue the conversation about blackness in the world today as we pivot to talk about black identity in the United States. What was it like to be a black man living abroad for all of Barrack Obama's historic presidency? How are people in other countries thinking and talking about the 2016 Presidential race? We also cover topics such as unsolicited white ignorance on issues of race, how police shootings of unarmed black folks are talked about in corporate America, the perspective one gains from living as an outsider, and how this year's olympics might precipitate the apocalypse.
If you've ever wondered what it's like to live in Nigeria, Qatar, South Korea, and far east Russia, as a black man then this is the episode for you. I sit down with my former college roommate, best man, and brother from another mother to talk about his experiences working for The Man, starting a family, and navigating multiple different cultures. This episode has something for just about everyone and will broaden your horizons. Part 2 coming soon!

Guitarist Steve Khan was born and raised in Los Angeles in a house of songs. His father, lyricist and songwriter Sammy Cahn, made countless contributions to the American songbook. As a young boy, Steve was surrounded by his father’s friends and collaborators; Dean Martin was a regular at the house. But as he describes it, his father’s world was not particularly attractive to him, and he felt a real distance between himself and his father’s world.Coming of age in LA in the 60’s, Steve was drawn to music for somewhat more social reasons. His friends played in garage bands, and he wanted a piece of the action. His first instrument was the drums, while still in high school he ended up playing in a surf rock band called the Chantays, who had a hit called Pipeline. Oddly enough, it was the guys in the Chantays who turned Khan onto jazz, the music that truly inspired him.At 19, Steve made the switch to guitar. In 1970 he relocated from the West Coast to New York. He quickly became an integral part of the studio recording and fusion scenes – in the 1970s he recorded on dozens of records, many of them important statements for artists ranging from the Brecker Brothers to Billy Joel, Kenny Loggins to Freddie Hubbard, Ashford and Simpson to Blood Sweat and Tears, Chaka Khan to Steely Dan. During the period when he was most active on the scene, Steve started recording as a solo artist for major labels. He has recorded over 25 albums as a soloist. One particular project, called Eyewitness, was clearly a watershed moment for him. It featured Khan, bassist Anthony Jackson, drummer Steve Jordan and percussionist Manolo Badrena. This project seems to have opened a door for him creatively, and since the early 80s he has pursued his love of Latin music. When I started this podcast, sometimes people would ask me what I’m interested in talking about. I would sometimes answer that I’m looking for the intersection between personal experience and art – where life meets craft. Of course, that’s not always what happens in these conversations, and it’s certainly not any kind of mandate. But it does feel appropriate to wrap up the first year of these conversations with Steve Khan, because not only is he a great storyteller full of anecdotes, but he also is deeply aware of how his life and his music overlap. www.stevekhan.com This was a long conversation and for the first time, I’m including some pieces that didn’t make the final cut available here. So if you’re interested and would like to hear more, specifically about some of the technical aspects of Steve’s playing, there’s another 20 minutes of the conversation available below. Stream it here or download it from the iTunes Music Store.
