Knitting in Passing Riley finished the Reinpack Bag (free Ravelry Download she was knitting for my Mom, her grandmother. We bought yarn at Staci's Stitches. The yarn is a super bulky t-shirt yarn from Hoooked Zpaghetti. She did most of the bag in a white with black polka dots and then black towards the bottom. The black yarn was definitely thinner, which wasn't ideal but as long as Mom doesn't use it to store small buttons or screws, it should be just fine. I gave Riley a very brief kitchener stitch overview and she flew through the rest of it to close up this bag. I'm so proud of her. In My Travels I visited with Laura in Orleans over the last two weekends. We went to a movie theater to see A Man Called Otto. We browsed Provincetown, which is a bit sleepy in the offseason. We had fun browsing a few shops. We did a taste test of 3 peanut butter cups. Of the three milk chocolate peanut butter cups, Hilliard's Candy was our favorite followed by The Providence Fudge Factory and then Hot Chocolate Sparrow. I taught Laura how to make homemade stovetop popcorn and that nearly turned into a disaster when we thought we ruined the bottom of a Les Creuset but were able to clean/remove the stain with vinegar and baking soda. We also visited the Antique Center & Cape Abilities Thrift Store in Yarmouth, MA. I made a quick trip to Adventures in Knitting in Harwich on Saturday. I bought 2 skeins of yarn and a set of Addi sock needles. We talk with Rosemary Sullivan about her book, The Betrayal of Anne Frank: A Cold Case Investigation. The post Rosemary Sullivan, THE BETRAYAL OF ANNE FRANK appeared first on Writer's Voice.
Last week on The CJN Daily, we brought you an interview with Canadian writer Rosemary Sullivan. Her latest book, The Betrayal of Anne Frank: A Cold Case Investigation, details a team of historians and researchers that argue it was a Dutch Jewish notary who sold out the Franks to the Nazis. Sullivan defended her work and argued the Dutch need to face the fact that one-third of all Dutch Jews in hiding were betrayed, resulting in the death of 75 per cent of the country's Jewish population. But the Dutch are angry at the book—especially one Dutchman, Ruben Vis. The CEO of a Dutch Jewish organization called NIK, who is also the son of Holocaust survivors who hid for their survival, Vis has since embarked on a PR campaign to force the book's publisher to stop printing copies. He also believes his research refutes several accusations from The Betrayal of Anne Frank, a book which he describes as a painful hit on Dutch Jews. Vis joins from Amsterdam to explain what Sullivan's book got wrong and why his fight to stop the book is going to heat up even more next week. What we talked about: Listen to Rosemary Sullivan discuss her book on The CJN Daily at thecjn.ca Watch Sullivan's full interview with The CJN on YouTube Learn about the event, "The Betrayal of Anne Frank: A Refutation", in which local Dutch historians and family members go into details about their counter-findings, at spui25.nl Credits The CJN Daily is written and hosted by Ellin Bessner (@ebessner on Twitter). Rosemary Sullivan, the Canadian author of more than a dozen books, knew she'd get some pushback for her latest non-fiction endeavour, a book that casts the Anne Frank story in a troubling new light. But she never expected it to be this bad. The city of Amsterdam demanded 100,000 euros back from the subjects of Sullivan's story; Dutch newspapers issued bold retractions on their front pages; the book's Dutch publisher publicly apologized to readers for offending them. At the root of the controversy is a startling revelation alleged in Sullivan's new book, The Betrayal of Anne Frank: A Cold Case Investigation. Sullivan details a team of Dutch and American investigators who discover that it was likely a Dutch Jewish man who betrayed the Franks, inviting a Nazi raid that ultimately led to many of the family members' deaths. The story, and the resulting outcry, has made international headlines. In Canada, Indigo's CEO, Heather Reisman, called the book the "one thing you should read this year," and Sullivan herself stands by the investigators' findings—even if they're hard to stomach. She joins to discuss. Rosemary Sullivan is the author of a controversial book on a cold case investigation into what led to young Jewish girl Anne Frank and her family being discovered by the Nazis. The Betrayal of Anne Frank follows a six-year investigation, and identifies a Jewish Notary as leading to the Franks being found, after they'd hidden undetected for two years in Amsterdam. Rosemary Sullivan is a professor emeritus at the university of Toronto and the author of many books including a biography Stalin's Daughter.

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East, and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday. Senior Analyst Haviv Rettig Gur and Holocaust correspondent Matt Lebovic join host Amanda Borschel-Dan for a special International Holocaust Remembrance Day episode. We first ask the question why Anne Frank is continually a target of antisemitic rhetoric, most recently in the much-decried statements by United States politician Robert F. Kennedy said that it's harder for Americans under COVID measure than it was for the Jews during the Holocaust. “Even in Hitler's Germany, you could cross the Alps to Switzerland. You could hide in an attic like Anne Frank did.” Next, we discuss controversial new research which claims to have pinpointed who turned Anne Frank and her family over to the Nazis, included in author Rosemary Sullivan's “The Betrayal of Anne Frank: A Cold Case Investigation.” Why does Lebovic think this is a wasted last, best chance? Discussed articles include: RFK Jr. apologizes for Anne Frank comparison at anti-vaccine rally Historians bash ‘rubbish' findings of investigation into Anne Frank betrayal Anne Frank Fund head slams findings on betrayal of diarist as ‘full of errors' Subscribe to The Times of Israel Daily Briefing on iTunes, Spotify, PlayerFM, Google Play, or wherever you get your podcasts. Today, we are welcoming you to Season 3 by reintroducing and replaying an episode that exemplifies what our podcast is all about. In January 2020, we released the episode “The Agony and the Ecstasy of Elizabeth Smart” created by researcher and producer Myra Bloom. To kick off this season, Hannah and Myra sat down for a new introductory conversation that puts Myra's past episode in the context of the SpokenWeb project's values and Myra's forthcoming podcast series. Then, we invite you to listen to the voice of Elizabeth Smart again, or for the first time, and consider what caring for and sharing the sounds of literary archives means to you. Over the years, Elizabeth Smart's 1945 novel By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept has risen from obscurity to cult classic. The book, which details an ill-fated love affair between an unnamed narrator and her married lover, is celebrated for its lyricism, passionate intensity, and its basis in Elizabeth's real-life relationship with the poet George Barker. After publishing By Grand Central Station, Smart lapsed into a thirty-year creative silence during which time she worked as an advertising copywriter and single-parented four children. In this poetic reflection, Myra Bloom weaves together archival audio with first-person narration and interviews to examine both the great passion that fueled By Grand Central Station and the obstacles that prevented Elizabeth from recreating its brilliance.Featured in this episode are Sina Queyras, a poet and teacher currently working on an academic project about Elizabeth; Maya Gallus, a celebrated documentarian whose first film, On the Side of the Angels, was about Elizabeth; Kim Echlin, author of Elizabeth Smart: A Fugue Essay on Women and Creativity; and Rosemary Sullivan, Elizabeth's biographer. This episode also features archival audio of Elizabeth in conversation at Memorial University (1983) and reading at Warwick University in England (1982).SpokenWeb is a monthly podcast produced by the SpokenWeb team as part of distributing the audio collected from (and created using) Canadian Literary archival recordings found at universities across Canada. To find out more about Spokenweb visit: spokenweb.ca . If you love us, let us know! She is currently writing a book called Evasive Maneuvers about Canadian women's confessional writing, including Elizabeth Smart, and is preparing a SSHRC-funded podcast on the same topic.Guest BiosKim Echlin is a novelist.
