Éric Scherer a longtemps eu des positions de vigie de l'écosystème médiatique et de ses évolutions. Il a notamment été directeur de la stratégie à l'Agence France-Presse (AFP) puis directeur du MédiaLab, chargé de l'innovation et de la prospective à France Télévisions. Il prend sa retraite et a accepté de revenir, au micro de L'atelier des médias, sur les révolutions des médias à l'ère numérique... et aux temps nouveaux de l'intelligence artificielle. Au début de cet entretien de plus d'une heure, Éric Scherer exprime son attachement à la profession de journaliste. « Je suis très très fier d'avoir cette carte de presse et de l'avoir eue sans discontinuité depuis depuis 40 ans, depuis juin 1985, quand je suis entré stagiaire à l'Agence France-Presse. » Puis il reprend la célèbre formule de Jacques Chirac : « Notre maison brûle et nous regardons ailleurs. » Pour lui, ce fut un « sentiment assez pénible » de voir ses collègues et supérieurs ne pas vouloir anticiper les bouleversements du secteur des médias. Il décrit la situation actuelle avec le développement rapide de l'intelligence artificielle qui bouleverse tout. « ​​​​​​​Le numérique était finalement peu de choses à côté de ce qui est en train de se passer », assure-t-il. Éric a été le témoin privilégié de tournants majeurs, de l'échec du Japon à saisir la vague dématérialisée – malgré son avance électronique – ou encore l'explosion du web 2.0 aux États-Unis au milieu des années 2000. En France, Éric Scherer a lancé en 2007 le blog AFP Media Watch sur lequel il alertait les patrons de presse de la révolution en cours. Ils « ​​​​​​​disaient une chose : "Ça tiendra bien jusqu'à ma retraite." Je trouvais ça fondamentalement criminel, égoïste », se souvient-il. Il rapporte aussi l'arrogance d'un dirigeant de Google venu dire aux patrons de journaux français : « ​​​​​​​Vos contenus ne valent rien. Ils ne valent rien et ce sont des atomes dans un univers. Donc ne demandez pas d'argent. » Pour Éric Scherer, le journaliste est « ​​​​​​​extraordinaire[ment] conservateur », souvent trop la tête dans le guidon pour s'intéresser à l'économie de son secteur. Il illustre ce déni en donnant l'exemple de l'échec de la télévision à comprendre la transition vers le streaming. Il se désole que les réseaux sociaux, initialement perçus comme une « ​​​​​​​démocratisation » des outils de production, soient devenus des « ​​​​​​​déversoires de haine, des déversoires de complotisme, des déversoires de fake news, sans contrôle ». Aujourd'hui, l'heure est à l'intelligence artificielle. « ​​​​​​​Le numérique était une blague à côté de ce qui est en train d'arriver », avertit Éric Scherer. Face au « ​​​​​​​pillage » des contenus par les entreprises d'IA – souvent sans compensation –, l'UER (Union européenne de radio-télévision, ou EBU), dont il a présidé le comité News, a formulé cinq grandes demandes aux plateformes : la permission (demander l'accord pour utiliser les contenus), la compensation (rémunération), l'intégrité (protection de la source et de la marque), le pluralisme (diversité des informations traitées) et l'aide à la lutte contre la désinformation. Il reste optimiste sur le rôle des journalistes, même si les défis sont immenses. « ​​​​​​​Pour le coup, je suis assez convaincu que l'IA ne va pas remplacer les journalistes. En revanche, un journaliste qui sait utiliser l'IA, qui en est familier, va remplacer un journaliste qui ne le sait pas et celui qui ne veut pas s'y mettre est cuit, à mon sens. » Fraîchement retraité, Éric Scherer poursuit une vie d'« ​​​​​​​explorateur », souhaitant voyager – à Taïwan, notamment – et mettre derrière lui la veille effrénée du secteur des médias.

Annie Scherer merges her love of rock ‘n roll classics with her passion for alternative music to produce her own unique sound. Her evocative lyrics and haunting melodies have been heard live from New York to Tennessee.  In May 2025, Annie had the honor of performing at the 40th Annual Harvard Mayfair in the heart of Harvard University. She also celebrated her Chinese American heritage with her performance at the CMP gala in New York, NY and the Boston International Asian Music Festival. Annie is currently gearing up to release her EP this fall.  In 2023, Annie was the runner-up in Lightning 100's Music City Mayhem competition in Nashville, which had 430+ entries. The finale included a performance at 3rd & Lindsley, where the five remaining artists battled it out live. First and second place were determined by voters and judges, including some of Nashville's top music industry members. Following the competition, Annie performed at the annual festival series, Musician's Corner in Nashville. She played the festival again on the main stage in 2024. Annie's single, "Everywhere I Go (Everybody's the Same)" earned her the #1 spot on aBreak Music, the number one music platform for independent artists, in August 2023. The song was aired internationally via iHeart Radio, and received press coverage throughout the nation.  Annie released her first full-length album “Garden Bed” in March 2021. The album features previously released singles, "Andy Warhol," "Take Me Places," and "After Rain," along with six brand new tracks. Annie wrote and produced all the songs. Garden Bed showcases her skills as a composer and multi-instrumentalist, performing the trumpet, piano, guitar, and ukulele, while arranging string quartet scores for songs like "Kaleidoscope" and "Ashamed." The album was widely praised by American Songwriters, the Times Union in Albany, NY, and NYS Music. A month after its release, Annie was voted the best local musician in New York's Capital Region according to readers of the Times Union.  In 2020, three of Annie's songs, including "Kaleidoscope," "After Rain," and "Roses and Lies" received honorable mentions at the international and notable songwriting competition, SongDoor. "After Rain" was selected for special recognition. Annie was awarded the 2018 Producer's Choice for the 'Celebration of Music' PBS special in Troy, NY, hosted by Ethan Bortnick. She won a trip to LA where she was taped performing "Andy Warhol."    Annie's musical career began at age six, when she started classical piano lessons. She devoted 12 years to classical performance. At seven, she wrote her first song, a holiday tune that she sang for a two-person audience: her mom and music teacher. By age 12, Annie had taught herself guitar, and started gigging and writing more seriously.  In addition to her musical aspirations, she is a visual artist and practices with charcoal portraits.
