No industry in our state is, at once, both so critically important and so grievously undervalued as early childhood education. While everyone from the chamber of commerce, to parents, to economists and academics agrees that a robust and healthy child care industry is vitally important for the economy, workers, families and, of course, children, funding […]

Now here's a guy who's not hesitant to speak speaking openly about his dark years – his addiction to heroin, then make a dramatic switch from heroin addict to successful businessman. In this week's TNQ episode, Aaron Singerman shares the unlikely story of his life, his troubles, and eventually his accomplishments, and the importance of empathy for others going through difficult situations. Aaron and his wife, Darielle are the founders of Redcon1, the fastest growing sports supplement brand in history, positively changing people's lives, and took their company from 5 to over 150 employees. They also founded the Redcon1 Foundation, making a positive impact on families of the Unites States Military heroes. In this episode you will hear: My life has not been easy, but it shaped me. The mistakes I made are all my own. If I had joined the military, I probably would've been kicked out because I wouldn't have been able to take orders. Darielle: Boarding school was a great thing for me. I was a Heroin and cocaine intravenous addict. 98% of intravenous heroin users never come out of it. It was easy to get OxyCon because doctors were getting incentives to prescribe it, and I became addicted to it. Sometimes the best thing in business is to simply walk away. I had parents that told me they loved me. Redcon1 has always been purpose-driven – especially serving the military. I spent every ounce of effort and time I had into writing articles for fitness magazines for free. The drive to believe in yourself is very unique. It's not about the goal as much as it is enjoying the journey & getting to the next level. People focus too often on the negative. They look at the door that was closed and feel sad about that, versus looking for the next open door. Embrace humility.

“Mr. Singerman, why are you crying?” asked twelve-year-old Albert as he watched the master craftsman construct a wooden box. “I cry,” said Isaac, “because my father cried, and because my grandfather cried.” The woodworker’s answer to his young apprentice provides a tender moment in an episode of Little House on the Prairie. “Tears,” explained Mr. Singerman, “come with the making of a coffin.” “Some men don’t cry because they fear it is a sign of weakness,” he said. “I was taught that a man is a man because he can cry.” Emotion must have welled up in the eyes of Jesus as he compared His concern for Jerusalem to the care of a mother hen for her chicks (Matthew 23:37). His disciples were often confused by what they saw in His eyes or heard in his stories. His idea of what it meant to be strong was different. It happened again as they walked with Him from the temple. Calling His attention to the massive stone walls and magnificent décor of their place of worship (24:1), the disciples noted the strength of human accomplishment. Jesus saw a temple that would be leveled in 70 ad. Jesus shows us that healthy people know when to cry and why. He cried because His Father cares and His Spirit groans for children who couldn’t yet see what breaks His heart.

Our guest on the show is Seth Singerman. Mr. Singerman is the founder and managing principal of Singerman Real Estate, a diversified private equity firm. Aaron Singerman operates as CEO of Redcon1, a military themed brand that so many can relate to. The business kicked off in September of 2016 selling only apparel. This week’s guest on In the Drink is Noah Singerman. Noah was born and raised in Sonoma so wine has been in his blood since he was a young kid. He began his career in wine working in wine-focused restaurants in Santa Barbara, Petaluma and SF before moving to NYC a decade ago to “play with the big dogs.” He first worked as beverage director at neighborhood favorite Five Points (now Vic’s) and then moved on to run the beverage program at Walter Foods in Williamsburg. He was the assistant wine director and sommelier at The Standard Hotel West and most recently worked as a sommelier at The Dutch before he came to Saxon + Parole. When he’s not educating and pouring wine for guests at S+P in his full suit on top, jeans and sneakers on the bottom (something of a clothing mullet), he can be found teaching wine classes at Brooklyn Kitchen. He’s also a member of the Guild of Sommeliers since 2007. At Saxon + Parole, he’s hoping to bring more attention to domestic wines highlighting both the classic regions like California, Oregon and Washington as well as lesser known and up-and-coming regions like Virginia, Michigan and others. Additionally, his goal is to show guests that you can get more than Cabernet and Chardonnay from the U.S. and introduce lesser-known varietals to the menu as well as their European counter. This program was brought to you by Michter’s. “Gruner Veltliner is a great foray away from Sauvignon Blanc.” [15:00] –Noah Singerman on In the Drink

Chaim Singerman delivers a powerful message about the wrong attitudes the nations have had and do have against God's first seed, Israel.
Critiques of neo-liberalism, authoritarianism, and military rule played an obvious role in the Egyptian revolution. This talk will examine an emerging urbanist agenda in Egypt which has been buoyed by the revolution's commitment to social justice and the desire to move beyond neo-liberalism and improve the built environment, enhance public services and democratize municipal politics. It will also explore the relevance of insights from other nations whose urban populations have increased demands for a fairer share of public resources, broader representation, and public accountability after military rule. Dr. Singerman is an Associate Professor at American University and comparativist whose research interests focus on political change from below, particularly in the Middle East, and more specifically Egypt. Her work examines the formal and informal side of politics, gender, social movements, globalization, public space, protest, and urban politics. Her most recent edited books are Cairo Contested: Governance, Urban Space, and Global Modernity, and Cairo Cosmopolitan: Politics, Culture, and Urban Space in the New Globalized Middle East.
