In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Brian Glass discuss:Focusing on the client experience.Partnering with family in your law firm.Highest and best use of lawyers' time for law firm success. The power of coopetition and accountability. Key Takeaways:What gets in the way of lawyer business success is thinking the lawyer needs to be in the middle of everything in their practice.Identify and write down everything that is important to you - then reverse engineer your firm based on that criteria.Execute the good ideas and lessons learned from your peer groups. Having forced external accountability can help you to actually accomplish those goals.Give more power to your lieutenant - give them reins and responsibility, but also give them coaching and power to make decisions. You cannot do it all, especially if you are wanting to scale and grow. "If you have a good enough team, and you have a large enough vision, you can give them these projects to go and run with. I don't have to do it. I just have to have a big enough vision and create a fun enough and intellectually exciting enough place to work that attracts the kind of person that can go and execute on that for me." — Brian GlassGet a free copy of Steve's book “Sales-Free Selling” here: www.fretzin.com/sales-free-selling Thank you to our Sponsors!Get Staffed Up: https://getstaffedup.com/bethatlawyer/Overture: https://overture.law/Get Visible: https://www.getvisible.com/ Episode References: Vivid Vision by Cameron Herold - https://www.amazon.com/Vivid-Vision-Remarkable-Aligning-Business/dp/161961877XMy First Million: https://www.mfmpod.com/ About Brian Glass: Brian Glass is a personal injury lawyer in Fairfax, Virginia. No matter what we set out to achieve in our lives. We will inevitably run into challenges that can create self-limiting beliefs that can prevent us from reaching our full potential. My guest today, Joel Runyon, talks about some of the challenges that he's faced as he's traveled the world as an ultra-endurance athlete. As well as why you should embrace challenges in your life, and how to do what you never thought was possible. Joel is the founder of IMPOSSIBLE, which is a company that focuses on helping others surpass their limits and do the impossible. I had the chance to sit down with him during the Spartan Media Fest in Lake Tahoe prior to the Spartan Race World Championships, and I was amazed to hear some of his incredible stories and accomplishments. In 2017, he became the youngest person to run an ultra-marathon on all seven continents. As a result, he raised $192,000 for Pencils for Promise and built seven schools. Though this endeavor didn't come without challenges. Early on he faced a critical setback that almost ended it all. Though he found a way to overcome this challenge and push forward to set this new record. Now he's on a mission to help others overcome their own challenges. Along the way, he's done a TEDx talk, developed an app called MoveWell, and he continues to set an example by seeking out more challenges in his life. This episode features Deanna Blegg. Deanna is an inspirational woman who has truly done it all. Let me tell you a little about Deanna. Deanna began her early sporting life as a triathlete. She was so successful in her field that she ended up representing Australia in the 1990 Commonwealth Games. Shortly after the Commonwealth Games Deanna began travelling the world. During this stint of travelling she spent time volunteering in Africa at which point she contracted the HIV virus. Many years passed for Deanna as she came to grips with the diagnosis, being told multiple times she had X months to live. Deanna decided life was too short to dwell on an illness that she cannot control so set out to take her life back. Fast forward 20 years and she is happily married with 2 children and has began a successful career as an obstacle/adventure racer. So successful has she been that Deanna finished 2nd in women's division of the Spartan Race World Championships. She also won, the female division of the World's Toughest Mudder. That's right. She won! At an age of over 40! Deanna Blegg is truly an inspiration and someone who everybody out there can learn from. If you like it please subscribe and rate here on iTunes. Greenstars, the first 100 per cent non-browning apples are a cross between a granny smith and a delbarestivale apple. The apples are green, sweet, juicy, have a thin skin and have the highest vitamin C content of any apple, which helps keep them naturally white for days after cutting. The kanzi is the number one apple sold in Europe and is bright red and crunchy, with a long shelf life — a cross between a gala and braeburn apple. So ask for Atlanta kanzi and greenstar apples in your local greengrocers Victoria wide. This podcast is also brought to you by LocSam Solutions. It’s Spartan World Championships Week. And this week we talk to two Spartan World Championships competitors with completely different stories! We start by debuting our new Seasoned Firsts segment. This segment features people who are stepping outside their comfort zones to try new challenges for the very first time. Whether it’s a race, event, competition or new sport, we want to know what drives these people to challenge themselves in this new way. Today we introduce 48-year old Julie Jensen, who is competing in her very first Spartan Race at the notoriously difficult Spartan Race World Championships in Lake Tahoe. In our main interview, we talk to 43-year old Rachel Cosgrove of Santa Clarita, California. Rachel owns and operate Results Fitness, named one of the top ten gyms in the US by Men’s Health Magazine. She’s the best-selling author of The Female Body Breakthrough and Drop Two Sizes. In 2012, Rachel earned the title of IDEA Personal Trainer of the Year. She has competed as a triathlete, a powerlifter, and in the last year, she made a name for herself as a competitive obstacle course racer. Some of Rachel’s recent OCR stats include earning a 3rd place Masters finish at EPIC Series in 2017, a 3rd place age group finish at the 2017 Big Bear Spartan Beast, 2nd in the 40-49 age group at the 2018 SoCal Spartan, and 3rd place in the 40-49 age group at the 2018 Big Bear Spartan Beast, which also punched her ticket to the 2018 Spartan World Championships as an age group competitor. This year, she qualified for the pro round of the U.S. OCR Championships, the Spartan Race World Championships as well as the OCR World Championships. She is the only known adaptive athlete to qualify pro for each of these events. She regularly competes against the best of the best in the elite or pro divisions of obstacle course races, and most of her fellow racers have no idea the challenges she faces to compete side by side with them. In this episode, we talk about how an adaptive athlete is defined and what that means for her as an obstacle racer, the role nutrition plays for endurance athletes, and how to live a life with limitations but no limits. In honor of the Spartan Race World Championships taking place in Lake Tahoe, CA, this week's episode is all about Seasoned Spartans! Our main interview is with Hobie Call, a Utah-based father of five, a member of the Spartan Race Pro Team and someone who is often referred to as the Godfather of Obstacle Racing. With a background as a distance runner, he ran first Spartan Race in 2011, and has since run 84 obstacle races, picking up a stunning 57 first place finishes and becoming a fan favorite along the way. In 2015, he stepped away from professional racing – prompting some to believe he had retired. But he wasn't done, and nothing proved that more than when he showed up to the 2016 Spartan Race World Championships and walked away with his third world championship title. This year, he's making one more run at glory, working toward becoming the first masters athlete to top the overall elite podium at the 2017 Spartan Race World Championships – before officially retiring for REAL this time. In this episode, Hobie talks about the competition that almost prompted him to throw in the towel (and potentially miss out on an illustrious obstacle racing career), what he believes to be the most important thing when it comes to racing (spoiler alert: it's not winning!), and why he decided to call it a day after this current "retirement party" season. SEASONED ATHLETE STATS - HOBIE CALL Age: 40 Sport: Obstacle racing Quote: "The competition isn't the test. The training is the test. The competition is the reward."
