Alan Kasujja is in conversation with former Leeds United captain Lucas Radebe and popular African commentator Christophe Bongo. He's trying to understand why a country like South Africa, for example, with world class stadiums and football academies, finds it difficult to dominate the Africa Cup of Nations. But it's not the only one. Egypt, Ghana and Nigeria haven't been doing well either in recent years, despite churning out great players for global teams. This conversation comes as qualifiers for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations are set to continue in the coming weeks.

Among them, the question of producer responsibility for the life cycle of their products. Even before the negotiations begin, one thing is certain: all the solutions and tools that will be included in the final text will depend on the concerted action of all the players. In this context, we defend the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) model as an essential tool in the fight against plastic pollution. Extended producer responsibility: a catalyst for solutions Based on the polluter pays principle, Extended Producer Responsibility makes producers and industrials responsible, including financially, for the end-of-life of the products they put on the market. The first EPR schemes were created to meet this obligation. EPR has several advantages in the specific management of plastic products. On the one hand, it encourages companies to enter a circular economy logic in the design of their products thanks to an eco-contribution that can be modulated according to bonuses/malus, thus encouraging the use of fair packaging and recyclable materials. On the other hand, based on a partnership between companies and local authorities under the aegis of the State, it allows the sustainable financing of the public service of waste management, while reinforcing its efficiency. Finally, it can encourage citizens to sort their waste and to turn to more responsible consumption patterns. Each actor of the value chain is thus invested in the good circularity of products and the reduction of their pollution. A favorable international dynamic Building on its success in France and Germany – two pioneering countries in this field – EPR has been widely deployed around the world, particularly over the past decade. In Asia, for example, Japan and South Korea have well-established models, while China, India, Indonesia and Vietnam are developing similar systems. The same is true for Latin America, where Chile, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Colombia have legislative frameworks in place to allow for the deployment of EPR systems. While they differ significantly from country to country, properly and effectively designed models function as solution gas pedals. At the international level, in addition to making companies responsible for environmental and resource protection, EPR strengthens the traceability and control of transboundary movements of hazardous wastes in accordance with the Basel Convention. EPR could also play a key social role in integrating semi-formal and informal workers in the waste sector, thereby improving their working conditions and livelihoods. For the integration

In this episode of our podcast series focusing on multi-qualified lawyers, Shelagh Rule, partner at Webber Wentzel, shares her journey and views on being a triple qualified lawyer with Tom Pearson. Shelagh Rule is armed with qualifications from South Africa, the United Kingdom and New York in the United States, so she's a triple threat indeed. Having earned her LLB at Wits University in South Africa, she was sitting for her masters degree at the University of Edinburgh when the opportunity arose for her to take the New York bar exam through the Barbri program. Rule was able to study for it alongside her masters and ended up with two new arrows in her quiver. Rule, an expert in venture capital and private equity, said being qualified in multiple jurisdictions was highly beneficial for both the client and the lawyer, especially since work then does not have to be outsourced. “You are able to advise in multiple jurisdictions and fully deliver on mandates that span multiple legal jurisdictions and multiple legal systems. It's invaluable when you work in a team that you not only understand the requirements of the jurisdiction you're working in, but also the requirements of the other teams that you are working with,” she said. Another plus is being able to manage client expectations, save on costs and improve efficiencies. She also pointed out that holding more than one qualification provided more opportunities. “You get to work on deals you wouldn't normally have the chance to work on. You get to see how transactions are run in jurisdictions all over the world. And, again, you can learn so much from that,” said Rule. Her counsel to her younger self and other aspirant lawyers considering multiple qualifications is, “Don't be scared to jump in as soon as you can.” This podcast series is a collaboration with the UK Ministry of Justice and GREAT Legal Services in partnership with Africa Legal in the lead up to our event in Johannesburg on 31 August, focusing on Law at an International Level.
Africa Legal, in partnership with the UK Ministry of Justice and GREAT Legal Services, is hosting a series of events in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 31 August 31 to 1 September, with the theme being Law at an International Level. In this podcast, Tom Pearson chats to Njeri Wagacha on the benefits of being a dual qualified African lawyer. The road to being able to practise in more than one jurisdiction was a long and winding one for Njeri Wagacha, bilingual corporate partner at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr (CDH) incorporating Kieti Law LLP, but she is now reaping the benefits. She did her first degree, an LLB, in England, qualified as a solicitor in London, fitted in an LLM somewhere in between, then returned to Kenya and got certified as an advocate. The reward for being well versed in both the UK and Kenyan law, says Njeri, is being able to deliver on mandates which span and interact with both systems. “Kenyan law emanates from UK law in terms of the Commonwealth jurisprudence and precedents, and so transitioning from the UK to Kenya was very easy in terms of understanding the law and its application,” she commented. Njeri says the added value of being dual qualified is being able to offer a broader, more multidimensional service than just in Kenya. She aims to access West African clients as well. She points out that having an English-qualified lawyer on the bench is a confidence booster for clients, “specifically in banking transactions where an English legal opinion is required, and only a UK qualified lawyer can sign off on that. In terms of mergers and acquisitions, and private equity transactions, being able to understand UK law documents or principles is a confidence booster for clients emanating out of those jurisdictions or even European jurisdictions.” Njeri elaborated on why English law has predominantly been seen as the safer jurisdiction to enforce judgements, and wraps up the brief conversation with interesting advice for lawyers wanting to attain dual qualifications.

During this time he has served as a High-Performance Mentor, and as an Elite Sports Coach, having coached at International Level in Professional Rugby Union with Ireland, Wales and the Lions and in the football Premier League. He has also worked as a Life Coach, a Yoga and Meditation Teacher, and a Business Owner. He now focuses his time on running men's retreats, consulting for professional sports teams and working privately as a men's coach.Areas that we talk about:1. I would love you to share some of your journey. What drew you into the work you now do?2. I would love you to speak about transformation and especially your own mid-life transformation. What do you advise others who are wanting to transform?3. Brotherhood. What is the importance of brotherhood in this transformation process? I would love you to explore a little how you brought this idea into Uruguay national team in the Rugby World Cup.4. I would love you to speak about the void. What is the relation between the void and change?5. In my work I see that those who have been through trauma and especially boarding school often didn't have role models. Episode 9 Jaye Brooks, A Knight In Shining Armor Jaye Brooks is the owner of The Knights Hall in Nashua, NH. He is also founded Armored Combat Sports, a National League of Armored Fighting with chapters/teams across the country. But his story starts in the 80s, playing Dungeons and Dragons. From his first interaction with SCA (Society For Creative Anachronism) Fighters, he knew he wanted to be in armor. This would begin his lifelong journey studying sword fighting. He would over time become a renowned figure within the SCA throughout the World and after many years needed a new challenge. He gathered some other Knights and fighters of renown and began training as Team USA for the Battle of the Nations, a European Festival which is like the Olympic games of Medieval Fighting. This isn't just a story about a Sword fighter, or modern American medievalism, this is about a creative, determined individual who through the same DIY spirit as most of our podcast's previous guests, learned to find a way to make something happen where there hasn't been something like it before. From renting space in an old mill in New England, to training himself to be ready to take on Melee fights (Group Fighting) in a 5 v 15 and 16 v 16 setting against opponents from Eastern Europe who were half his age, Jaye Brooks pushed himself and learned to push others through the first real US exposure to this steel fighting at an International Level. With determination and unwavering confidence, Team USA would go from 5th place to taking several Gold Medals in a few short years. This episode shows so many similarities between the burgeoning American Steel Fighting culture and our own hardcore punk world. From networking to the instant relation and lifelong long friendships built, their community is just like our own. The Knights Hall and its teams have been present at previous This Is Hardcore Fests, fighting in demonstration fashion in 5 v 5 and in 1 v 1. Everyone who saw the fighting loved it. As you hear Jaye talk and explain his methodology, thought process and the innovations he's made in training and organization, you can find so many co-relating principles that are acted upon in Hardcore businesses, show booking etc. Sometimes we have to step out of our comfort zone and we find a new hobby or at least a different perspective on our own lifestyle and pursuits. In talking to Jaye, I found many ways the two cultures are entwined and similar and thought that this is a great way to step back from talking about hardcore bands or people in the scene and still find so many topics that have been touched upon on this podcast s' previous episodes coming back up in this one. Jaye Brooks is a fascinating, inspiring person who loves what he does, and found a way to make it his living. If there is a way to win at the game of life, its living from what you love to do and his story on how he left the corporate world to be a professional swordfighter and trainer of US Athletes who represent on a International level is just that. http://www.theknightshall.com/ https://www.facebook.com/Knightshall https://www.instagram.com/the_knights_hall/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxh2DrCQ02a3rDRbAK63UQw

This is Set Piece Menu - the podcast where four friends talk football over food. The football: After high profile mistakes in recent months by England international defenders, we ask why players tend to make the kind of errors for their country that they wouldn't for their clubs, and whether it's because of the coaching they're getting at club level is the best it has ever been. The food: A stir-fry. Not prepared prior to the pod, but afterwards, because Hugh is concerned about juggling recording equipment and a very hot wok. BREAKING NEWS: We are, at last, doing our 100th episode! Set Piece Menu Live is happening on 13th November as part of the Manchester Podcast Festival. Developing a Wrestling ProdigyOn this special edition of the RUDIS Wrestling Podcast, Ben Askren is joined by Yianni Diakomihalis for an exclusive interview. Diakomihalis explains how he started wrestling at the young age of five and by ten began training seriously with his father former Rochester Institute of Technology All-American Ilias Diakomihalis. They would watch film on YouTube of all-time greats like Buvaisar Saitev, learn what they're doing successfully, and practice their moves. Ilias's philosophy was to help Yianni become the most skilled wrestler he could possibly be and let speed and strength come secondary to skill and technician.U.S. Recent Success on International Level (10:56)Askren brings up the recent news of Artur Taymazov testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs for a second time after re-analysis of stored samples. He asks Diakomihalis if he believes some of the United State's recent success on the international level could be due to the fact other countries like Russia have potentially stopped using PEDs and the competition is more level now. Diakomihalis says while that isn't the only reason it is for sure a contributing factor. The next question Askren has is if Diakomihalis believes the restructure of weight classes at the Olympic Level has helped our hurt the United States. Adding 79 kg and 92 kg couldn't have been better for the U.S. For example, Kyle Dake was able to find a home and went unscored upon last year at Worlds.Middle School and High School Success (17:10)Diakomihalis' first high-level national success came in 2013 when he won Super 32. Sophomore Year of high school Diakomihalis won UWW Cadet Nationals against one his close friends and teammates Vitali Arjua. That year he went on to win his first UWW Cadet Gold. Diakomihalis didn't let the fact he admired many of these wrestlers impact the way he wrestled against them. In his mind, he understood and used their moves so he had the best skills from all of them so how could they beat him? After losing to Daton Fix in the 2015 Flo Nationals, Diakomihalis began training at the NY RTC. He wanted high-level training partners and prepare himself for college while also preparing for the best wrestlers in high school. Diakomihalis broke his elbow attempting a collar tie in practice near the beginning of his senior year season. He also had preventative surgery on his other elbow right after and was forced to sit out for 4-5 months.Freshman Year of College (28:37)During Diakomihalis' true freshman year of college at Cornell, he won the 141 lbs NCAA Title. He only lost one match and ended his rookie season 37-1. Diakomihalis breaks down his matches from the 2017-2018 NCAA Wrestling Championships. He tells the story of him tearing his ACL at the beginning of the quarterfinals and asking his trainer to spare him the details and let him wrestle without knowing how bad it was. He goes on to win two tough matches on a blown ACL and secure his first NCAA Title.Sophomore Year of College (36:05)Sophmore season Diakomihalis goes undefeated 29-0 securing his second NCAA Title. After the college season, Diakomihalis then moves into freestyle and wins the U.S. Open defeating Zain Retherford. Diakomihalis talks about getting his weight down post knee surgery and how once he dialed it in it all manifested at the Open.Yianni vs Zain Announcement (40:27)Askren asks for an update on the ongoing arbitration over the Final X controversial second match between Diakomihalis and Retherford. Diakomihalis says the decision was scheduled for last Friday but was pushed back to July 29th. There are three possible outcomes that could be announced. One would be they do not reverse the call and Retherford remains the representative at 65 kg. Another could be they decide Diakomihalis, in fact, won match 2 and the series is tied 1-1 requiring a third match. Lastly, they could decide that match 2 was an illegitimate match and require them to re-wrestle match 2 with the possibility of Diakomihalis forcing a match 3 if he wins.

This episode features Deanna Blegg. Deanna is an inspirational woman who has truly done it all. Let me tell you a little about Deanna. Deanna began her early sporting life as a triathlete. She was so successful in her field that she ended up representing Australia in the 1990 Commonwealth Games. Shortly after the Commonwealth Games Deanna began travelling the world. During this stint of travelling she spent time volunteering in Africa at which point she contracted the HIV virus. Many years passed for Deanna as she came to grips with the diagnosis, being told multiple times she had X months to live. Deanna decided life was too short to dwell on an illness that she cannot control so set out to take her life back. Fast forward 20 years and she is happily married with 2 children and has began a successful career as an obstacle/adventure racer. So successful has she been that Deanna finished 2nd in women's division of the Spartan Race World Championships. She also won, the female division of the World's Toughest Mudder. That's right. She won! At an age of over 40! Deanna Blegg is truly an inspiration and someone who everybody out there can learn from. If you like it please subscribe and rate here on iTunes. Greenstars, the first 100 per cent non-browning apples are a cross between a granny smith and a delbarestivale apple. The apples are green, sweet, juicy, have a thin skin and have the highest vitamin C content of any apple, which helps keep them naturally white for days after cutting. The kanzi is the number one apple sold in Europe and is bright red and crunchy, with a long shelf life — a cross between a gala and braeburn apple. So ask for Atlanta kanzi and greenstar apples in your local greengrocers Victoria wide. This podcast is also brought to you by LocSam Solutions. Guest JAMES M ROTHSTEIN NYPD Ret. - Process Church, Son of Sam, Manson, and more My guest today , James M Rothstein NYPD Det Retired, was just fascinating. We discussed the Son Of Sam investigation, The Franklin Coverup, Boys Town, Manson, Organized crime cases in NYC. NYC politics and blackmail. Just a fascinating guy from NYC 70s NYPD. Great stuff. We even got into the French Connection case. Youtube link will be available tomorrow. One thing he is very passionate about is a law he wrote to combat human trafficking: Retired Detective Jim Rothstein as a member of the New York City Police Department and his retirement from the New York City Police Depart in 1980 to the present, has continued his work as a researcher and consultant on human trafficking. Det. Rothstein worked with various out of state agencies, officers, departments, professional groups, and numerous federal agencies to develop the expertise so vital to be effective. Det. Rothstein's assignment to the New York State Select Committee Crime was also the end of his career. These hearings were ordered by Governor Carey of the State of New York and a Bi-partisan Legislative Committee. The mandate was to find what the effects these crimes were having on society. The most important lessons learned was that there must be absolute integrity, honesty, trust, and don't use the merchandise. Honesty without integrity does little to help the Investigator establish credibility. You don't break the law to enforce the law. If these principals are not followed closely, all trust is destroyed and you will become totally ineffective. The bright side of human trafficking; these are the true stories of Retired New York City Detective James Rothstein. There is a message and a lesson in every story. On the street, he was known as “Boots,” because he always wore black cowboy boots. Detective Rothstein was told he had been awarded nine medals. He never filed a request for recognition unless he was ordered to do so. Det. Rothstein never accepted or displayed any of these medals. Det. Rothstein always believed he had done his job to the best of his ability as a sworn Police Officer. These stories touch the heart and soul of the toughest Detective and are never forgotten. The names may be forgotten (he tries) but the faces and memories are always there. These are the forgotten children, prostitutes, victims of pedophilia, and others. There is no individual discrimination; they are all discriminated against, Black, White, Yellow, Indian, and whatever else there may be. They may be Catholics, Protestants, or any other denomination; they are all victims. Nobody cared or cares. The Dark Side of human trafficking, prostitution, pedophilia, and corruption go far beyond human comprehension. It is a world of “Smoke and Mirrors,” where “Deceit and Deception” are the norm. The degradation, torture, and mental manipulation of the victims that were uncovered in the investigations, conducted by Rothstein (Boots), were never made public. They were not politically correct, or feel-good do-good. You cannot disguise decadence with the smell of clover or the pureness of a white lily. It is what it is, vulgar and despicable. Great effort was taken by the powers to be to discredit and cover-up the findings. Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies have no problem doing low level investigations. When they go after the “Big Time” traffickers they have problems. ANY investigators, prosecutors, or other authorities that do an in-depth investigation are stopped by the powers to be and their careers are ruined____________________________________________TRAFFICKING LAWSLaws to be passed: Any person, agency, or other entity that interferes, threatens, harasses, impedes, or in any way compromises an investigator, investigation, prosecution, or witness in human trafficking, child porn, pedophilia, or criminal use of children case is guilty of a felony with a mandatory 5 year prison sentence. Any enforcement agency, agent, prosecutor, elected government official, or any other authority that fails to act, with due haste, on human trafficking, pedophilia or the criminal use of children complaint and then doing a complete investigation of the complaint is guilty of a crime. (felony) Any person or entity who uses human trafficking, children, child porn, pedophilia, to compromise, extort or cause another person to do an unwilling act is guilty of a felony with a mandatory 25 year to life in prison, no parole, prison sentence. Any person or entity who buys, sells, trades, or in any way promotes, enables, or profits from human trafficking, pedophilia, human compromise, extortion, or uses children in a criminal manner is guilty of a felony with a mandatory 25 year to life in prison, no parole, prison sentence. The use of electronics, social media, or any other form of communications to facilitate, promote, or further human trafficking, child porn, pedophilia, human compromise, extortion, use of children in a criminal manner is a felony with a mandatory fine of one million dollars per incident and a 10 year prison sentence for all parties involved. As heinous as these crimes of human trafficking, pedophilia, human compromise and sexual exploitation of children are, an overzealous uninformed law enforcement agency, prosecutor, social worker, or mental health expert, who uses less than scientific investigative methods to conduct a “witch hunt,” can wreak havoc on our society and don't provide any real solutions. There must be an Oversight Committee (see Oversight Committee report) to prevent innocent people from becoming another victim and furthering an already heinous crime.Upon conviction of either/or #3, #4, #5 and affirmation of the Oversight Committee all assets of the perpetrator(s) or entities involved shall be seized and given to the victim(s).Jim RothsteinRet.
