“It's 33 and a half kilometers long, 2,900 meters of climbing and about 90% off trails. You're on trails, but really you're not on commonly used trails. You're up on ridges, you're running down scree slopes, up scree slopes, truly, truly running in the mountains.”Crowsnest Pass is home to “Meet the Minotaur”, Canada's only official Skyrunner World Series event, directed by Andrew and Erin Fairhurst. The Skyrunner tag means runners will be cruising summits and truly experiencing mountain running. This partnership has been great for the race but it's not where the race started. The original races gave runners choices at certain points on the course on which challenge they wanted to face. These days the course is standardized and has runners come from all over the world. It's something that Andrew cherishes and he loves sending runners into the incredible Crowsnest Pass mountains.“My favorite thing is honestly seeing the racers at the start line with this look of trepidation on their face maybe some of them doubting themselves or just outright fear. A lot of people don't realize what they're getting into. But then when I see these people come across the finish line, lots of tears of joy, some tears of true sadness, but lots of tears of joy or just people cannot believe what they've done.”This race sounds incredible. Andrew loves what he does and bringing runners to Crowsnest Pass is something that brings him joy. That joy is reciprocated as Meet the Minotaur has plenty of supporters and I for one can't wait to try this race someday!

COURTNEY DAUWALTER Y LOS SIETE MEJORES TRAIL RUNNERS 20'23: Courtney Sophia, Clementine, Jim, Stian, Philemon y Kilian.

Keri Wallace is the founder & guide at Girls on Hills, the UK's only trail, fell and skyrunning company for women. After her second child, Keri decided to quit the desk-job and find a way to combine her passion for mountain running with flexible working, so that she could fulfil a life goal and be mum to two toddlers at the same time. Keri in her own words: “I started Girls on Hills with my colleague Nancy Kennedy in 2013, as a way to encourage more women to try trail and fell running. It was a terrifying leap of faith and a dream-come-true rolled into one. It felt like the opposite of a mid-life crisis though; like I'd finally found the confidence to stand up and do something I should have done a long time ago. But I had no idea whether it would take off! We only ran a handful of courses the first year but it soon became clear that there was a real appetite out there for the kind of freedom and empowerment that comes with this type of running – across all ability levels. I love guiding women around the rocky hills of Glencoe, helping them build the confidence and skills they need to become more independent in the mountains (usually a simple case of revealing how much they are already capable of!) Mountain running is such a multi-faceted sport, with benefits that reach out and touch all other areas of your life. As Girls on Hills has grown over the years, we have learned more about the barriers that many women face, across all levels of our sport, from beginner access, right through to elite-level racing. Today we advocate strongly for equity and inclusivity and seek to increase female participation in technical and ultra-distance events, where the gender gap is greatest.” New episodes of the Tough Girl Podcast go live in March every Tuesday and Thursday at 7am UK time - Hit the subscribe button so you don't miss out. Zegama-Aizkorri, Gorbeia Suzien, Transvulcania.

Hey folks, you're about to have your breath taken away. Karl Egloff is one of the pre-eminent mountain speedrunners in the world, holding FKTs, or Fastest Known Times – to not climb, but run – up and down many of the highest and most daunting peaks in the world, including Denali, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, and Aconcagua. Where it would take most of us many days to trek these mountains, it takes Karl mere hours. Where we would be using ropes, crampons, and ice axes, Karl is in running shoes. His Denali FKT of 11 hours, and 44 minutes edged out that of mountain legend Kilian Jornet, and Kilian skied down, whereas Karl ran. Karl is based in Ecuador, where I got to enjoy a very fun run with him in November. His mother was Ecuadorian and his father, Charly, is Swiss, so Karl got the Alpine best of both countries, and with his mountain-guide father leading the way, Karl naturally became a guide himself. His company, Cumbre Tours, leads expeditions for average humans to many of the bucket-list peaks of the world. All the while, he is an amazing family man with a mountain runner wife herself and two young kids. His current project is to capture the FKT on all of the Seven Summits – the highest peak on each of the seven continents. And then another goal is a simple run across Antarctica. We talk about taking on peak challenges (literally), chasing dreams, risk management, logistical tests, loving the mountains, and keeping the family in focus. I think you'll be blown away when you hear his story, and I definitely encourage you to view some of his incredible mountain adventure photos and videos that will surely leave you breathless.Karl Egloffwww.karlegloff.comwww.cumbretours.comFacebook @karlegloff and @cumbretoursInstagram @karl.egloff and @cumbretoursTwitter @karlmtb and @cumbretoursYouTubeBill Stahlsilly_billy@msn.comFacebook Bill StahlInstagram @stahlor

“Every day doesn't have to be perfect. But you still have to put in the work, and you still need to show up, and you still need to put that brick in. Because in my little brick house in Fort Collins, which I grew up in, all the bricks were there, even if they were cracked, and scratched. They were all there in their imperfection and they made this beautiful structure. That's honestly what kept me going on those days where I felt like I didn't want to show up to do my PT. I felt like that was the one thing that I could do, no matter how boring it was, to lay that brick for the day. Hillary Allen's amazing story is actually the very first one we highlight in our book Rebound. In 2017, she fell off a ridge during Norway's Tromsø Skyrace, tumbling 150 feet to what could have been her death. Her injuries included two broken ribs and wrists, a fracture in her back, and a ruptured ligament in her foot. She's always written eloquently about her injury, and her compelling new book Out and Back tells the tale of her accident and recovery. On this week's show, we delve into some of the emotional components of that incredible journey, including the importance of asking for support and how she showed up for herself on days when she didn't know if she had it in her. And—in a topic that's not discussed as much, but is critical for injured athletes—she also opens up about her past with disordered eating, how fueling may have saved her life, and her advice for coping with fears about weight and nutrition during recovery. A huge thank you to our sponsor for this episode: Fluid Running. Fluid Running makes it possible to maintain your peak physical fitness even when you're injured through the power of deep water running. Listen for a special discount code in the episode! In this episode, we discuss: Her respect for the power of nature, and injuries are viewed in extreme running (5:56) How coming to terms with the fact that she might never compete again ultimately made her a stronger runner (14:05) Her “brick by brick” analogy of recovery (18:43) Why asking for support was so hard, and how she learned to do it anyway (23:00) The hardest time period of her recovery, and how she got through it (28:00) The power of curiosity, and why she believes it was one of the secrets to her survival (30:41) How grief and trauma are like waves, and how she's learned she can withstand them (34:23) Her experiences with disordered eating before—and after—her injury, and why she's so passionate about sharing them (36:39) Why she—like Amelia Boone—doesn't like referring to her recovery as a “comeback” (48:11) You can subscribe to The Injured Athletes Club on Spotify, Stitcher, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts, and if you like what you hear, please leave us a rating or a review in Apple podcasts. Hillary Allen is a Professional Ultra Skyrunner, The North Face athlete, and author of Out and Back: A Runner's Story of Survival and Recovery Against All Odds. On this episode of Marni on the Move, Hillary and I chat about how she discovered ultra and sky running, and what routes and races motivate her to train for one of the most intense endurance sports in the world. She talks to me about her passion for science, and how that love translates into her running career. Hillary—whose nickname is “Hillygoat” for her mountaineering prowess—fell off a steep rocky ridge. She fell 150 feet, bouncing off the mountain on the way to what she believed was her death. Hillary talks about the mental and physical tools she utilized to power her through recovery. A² The Show - Ep 299 Feat. Hillary Allen Hillary's career as an endurance athlete has not been straightforward. Through injury, setbacks and unexpected challenges, Hillary's had to re-think what she considers impossible. Early in her career, Hillary earned the nickname “Hillygoat” when she proved her ability to run fast on steep, technical mountain terrain – a style of running known as Skyrunning. Since then, she has raced all over the world, racking up wins and course records, establishing herself as one of the best mountain ultra runners in the world. In 2017 she had a life threatening accident, where she fell 150 feet off of a ridge-line during a Skyrace in Tromsø, Norway. She was told she would never run again. After several years of rehab and recovery, Hillary made a full recovery and returned to elite level racing, racing some of her longest and most challenging events post-accident. She maintains the belief that ‘your best athletic days are ahead of you, if you're willing to work hard for what you love.' Hillary also studies and teaches science, using her masters degree in neuroscience and physiology and structural biology. She is also a trail running coach, and a gravel cyclist. Welcome to Episode 41 of the Eat for Endurance Podcast, featuring elite skyrunner, Hillary Allen. Hillary is such a fascinating, multi-dimensional person and athlete. In addition to establishing herself as one of the best mountain ultra runners in the world (hence her trail nickname of "Hillygoat"), she is a scientist and teacher, with a masters degree in neuroscience, physiology and structural biology, a trail running coach, a gravel cyclist, and now also an author. Her book, Out and Back: A Runner's Story of Survival Against All Odds, shares her story of survival and recovery after she had a life threatening accident during a 50k Skyrace in Norway. She was nearly halfway through the race when she fell 150 feet off an exposed ridge, breaking two ribs, fracturing her back, rupturing a ligament in her foot, and breaking both wrists. It's a miracle that she was alive, and that she did not injure her head or suffer from other more severe outcomes. She was told she would never run again, but after a lot of rehab and mental fortitude, Hillary made a full recovery and returned to elite level racing. Hillary and I did not rehash the details of her accident , as she has done that plenty of times already. However, it's an incredibly powerful and amazing story - so if you are not familiar with Hillary or even if you are, I encourage you to read or listen to her book, and/or check out some of her other podcasts interviews that she has done that deep dive into all the details of her accident and recovery. I loved her two episodes (Episode 49 and 168) on The Morning Shakeout with Mario Fraioli, and Science of Ultra had a great one too (she has been doing the podcasting rounds lately for her book, so you can find her all over). Instead, as you'd expect from my Athlete Nutrition Profile Series, we focused on the nutrition side of her story - how it has evolved throughout her life and the role nutrition has played in her extensive and ongoing recovery process - with a few detours along the way (Bugs as food anyone? Yep, we go there!). Hillary, thank you for chatting with me! You are such an inspiration and I hope to see you in Santa Cruz during your book tour. I'd take you for a run in the redwoods, but even with you coming back from an injury, there's no way I'll be able to keep up with you!Enjoy!Links & Resources:Hillary's WebsiteFollow on Instagram, Facebook, and TwitterHillary's book - Out and BackOther Announcements:Please show your support by leaving a rating and/or review on iTunes Have nutrition questions, a guest or topic request, or any other feedback? Jasmin Paris was already a national fell-running champion, winner of the Skyrunner world series and a record holder on the Bob Graham and Ramsey Rounds when she crossed the line of the 2019 Spine Race in first position. In that moment she was propelled into the public consciousness, having been the first woman to take the overall win in that immensely tough race, but also having smashed the course record by over twelve hours. We recently chatted to Jasmin about her journey into running, her experience on The Spine Race and the media aftermath of very suddenly being the most famous utra-runner on the planet.

Fujio Miyachi --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dogsorcaravan/message
* 表題写真・© 藤巻翔 Sho Fujimaki * 音楽・未来向きトライアド / Audiostock、da ta 3 / Audiostock Tags: NES, Tor des Geants, Ruy Ueda, Skyrunner World Series, Skyrunner, 上田瑠偉, スカイランニング --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dogsorcaravan/message
SkyMarathon --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dogsorcaravan/message

Talk Ultra brings you an interview with the amazing Courtney Dauwalter who won Run Rabbit Run and then just weeks later won Moab 200 (238 miles) outright! We also speak with rising trail and mountain runner, Katie Kaars. Speedgoat co-hosts!
We've got an epic two-parter with OCR World Champ and Skyrunner, Jonathan Albon. Before the guys speak to Jon, David recalls his experience of this year's Marathon du Medoc, reveals a challenge by Monkey Tennis podcast, talks "easter eggs" and reveals why he has a beer named after him. Then the guys speak with Jon Albon (interview starts on 42 minutes, if you want to skip ahead like Fi Silk...) In this episode, Jon reveals: How he got started running and his crazy-good first ever race (you won't believe his first ever race time) How he progressed in the sport and became involved in OCR and then Skyrunning His 30 second sleep trick at that infamous Winter Nuts How he preps for races and how he trains away from running ... and his exact stats (so you can compare and contrast... and weep) Listen to this episodes and you'll get a glimpse into the mind of a serious competitor and champion (... so it's a pretty big contrast from Jody and David's ramblings) Oh, and make sure you listen to Part 2. Max Jahn – Skyrunner Sometimes I hear stuff that I directly want to share… „Skyrunner“, the debut album by Max Jahn. is one of those things… Why? Because it actually isn't a debut in the stricter sense: Max, released before as Maxx Cavalerra-moniker on the Broque Label. After a decade of high productivity, a few […]
