It consists of survival horror, third-person shooter and first-person shooter games, with players typically surviving in environments filled with zombies and other creatures. The franchise has expanded into a live-action film series, animated films, television series, comic books, novels, audio dramas, and other media and merchandise. Resident Evil is the highest-grossing horror franchise. The first Resident Evil was created by Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara and released for the PlayStation in 1996.[1][2] It is credited for defining the survival horror genre and returning zombies to popular culture. Capcom has also released three Resident Evil remakes: Resident Evil (2002), Resident Evil 2 (2019) and Resident Evil 3 (2020), with a Resident Evil 4 remake scheduled for 2023. Resident Evil is Capcom's best-selling franchise, with 125 million copies sold worldwide as of March 2022, and is the best-selling horror game series. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is the seventh live-action iteration of the storied video game franchise. Sadly, like its predecessors, it fails to live up to the legacy of the series. Yes, folks, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is yet another uninspired video game adaptation. But unlike the Paul W.S. Anderson saga, this at least sticks close to the source material. Raccoon City is a reboot, carrying no connection to the insipid six that came before it. In fact, it is essentially a narrative retelling of the first two games. In principle, that sounds like a good idea, but there's a reason there were two of them. This film can never find the right balance between the horrors of the Spencer Mansion and the panic-inducing labyrinth that is the titular city's police station. In effect, it shortchanges them both; and through its slavish devotion to the games, it also shoehorns in far too much—including the cringe-worthy dialogue that was a hallmark of the series' early years. Listen, I also hate W.S. Anderson's movies, but at least they made money. Raccoon City—certainly hindered by the ongoing pandemic—grossed just $41.9 million on a budget of $25 million. Critics had little appetite for it either. At 31% on Rotten Tomatoes with 84 reviews, it falls somewhere within the median of its predecessors. Not great. Anyway, sit back, have a tasty (and itchy?) This week- two movies, four women, and multiple trios of bumbling idiots. Naama lives in an Israeli suburb with little to do except drugs and casual hook ups. When she meets a new student, they are immediately attracted to each other. Meanwhile, he racist parents are desperately searching for her AWOL sister who might have run off with a nice young Palestinian boy. Blush (aka, the much better title, Barash). Two of the best action stars of all time together in the second film directed by Hong Kong legend Corey Yuen and produced by Sammo Hung which started an entire subgenre. Tragically, the draws are pushed aside for some of the worst garbage outputted by the painfully unfunny Luck Stars but when allowed to do what they do best, they rival any other of the period and force you to say... Yes, Madam. All that and the Spencer Mansion collapses on Dave and Tyler's heads while Kevin leaves his noir funk behind for candy colored holiday cheer. Join us, won't you?Episode 234- Rothrock and Roll
This week straight from the cinema we discuss the new and rebooted Resident Evil. Join us as we take a trip with the STARS team to the Spencer Mansion to discover the mysteries of the Umbrella, and as we start our first day on the force with the Raccoon City Police Department. As you can tell we are delving deep into the film and video game franchise, as we discuss the good, the bad and the damn right anti-climatic moments of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

When you hear the term ‘survival horror’, you can’t help but think of Resident Evil. Back in 1996, Resident Evil blew everyone’s minds, combining traditional point and click adventure puzzles with tense and strategic zombie combat. Six years later, in 2002, the game received a remake for the GameCube that many consider to be one of the best ever. The pre-rendered visuals of the Spencer Mansion elevated the atmosphere to a truly horrifying place, even as you collected gems for jewellery boxes. But for all that it changed, in terms of level layout, item distribution and graphical fidelity, this is one remake that kept the essential gameplay the same. It kept the fixed camera angles, the tank controls and even the absurdly limited inventory. It doubled down on the essential design choices of the original, instead of making it more convenient to control and play. Did this decision lead to the best way to experience Resident Evil 1, or does its design seem clunky and outdated, a relic of another age?On this episode, we discuss:Is there any merit to having fixed camera angles and tank controls in any video game, or is it just unnecessarily frustrating and annoying? In what ways does Resident Evil put pressure on the player? Do restricted saves, safe rooms and limited inventory slots create a tense and immersive experience, or simply annoy the player with tedious micromanagement? How believable in the story and sense of place in the Spencer Mansion (and surrounding areas)? How scary is it compared to other survival horror games like Silent Hill 2?We answer these questions and many more on the 62nd episode of the Retro Spectives Podcast!---Intro Music: KieLoBot - Tanzen KOutro Music: Rockit Maxx - One point to anotherREmake OST: Shusaku Uchiyama---Is the REmake the best version of Resident Evil 1, or should we have played a different one? If we play another Resi game, which one should we play? Does the story get cheesier or more grounded as the series progresses? Let us know what you think on our community discord server!

We don't think we'd survive the event of Resident Evil in real life.
We take a look at the remastered remake of Resident Evil, the one that started it all. We call it ReRe and talk mods, big snakes, door puzzles and 10-hour soothing save room megamixes. Get ready to relax and study to these lo-fi hip-hop beats in the Spencer Mansion, nerds.
Despite the Resident Evil 2 remake not appearing on the Switch (boo), we still find plenty to talk about this week when it comes to the legacy of one of the greatest survival horror titles ever made. Rick and Patrick are joined this week by Goomba Stomp's RE franchise expert Mike Worby to remember Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield's grotesque and terrifying experience in the Raccoon City Police Station, shooting zombies, running away from lickers, and getting scared out of our seats the first time Mr. X crashed through a wall. Along the way, we ask all the important questions: which scenario has the better story? What makes this setting so much better than the Spencer Mansion? Is William Birkin a psychopathic mad scientist bent on revenge, or a tragic figure at the mercy of his own creation? We get involved, people. Before that, however, Goomba Stomp's Izsak Barnette joins the fellas to pore over all the major announcements from the latest Nintendo Direct. It was a big one, with some pretty welcome surprises! We go down the list, discussing our favorites and generally just being happy to be Switch owners. To round things out, Rick and Patrick also give a review of Reverie, a small Zelda-like game that takes place in a fictional New Zealand island setting. Did we get to meet some kiwis? For all this and more on the Nintendo Switch Podcast, have a listen!
Welcome back to RGDS. We’ve deployed our R.G.D.S Bravo team of Matt A, Matt L and Jon back to the Spencer Mansion to battle the evil demons of destruction, in celebration of the newly released Resident Evil 2 Remake. The boys discuss their favourite memories of the original Resident Evil, the 1996 seminal Survival Horror experience for PS1, Saturn and PC, memories of acquiring via slightly dodgy means on Import 6 months before a PAL release, and Matt A had a few nightmares he’d like to forget about. We also give a quick run through some of the games that inspired the original RE, and a round-up of the immediate sequels. If you like Shotguns, Tyrants, and a Jill Sandwich, this is the podcast for you. We examine the universe of RESIDENT EVIL from its origins as the spark to ignite the horror game explosion of the 90's to the HIGHEST GROSING VIDEO GAME SERIES OF ALL TIME, Mike, Colin and Joe break down the doors of the Spencer Mansion and talk about the most evil residence in Racoon City!

As per Spookchamber tradition, we return to the legendary Resident Evil franchise with the third entry in the series, Resident Evil 3 : Nemesis. Jill Valentine survived the terrors of the Spencer Mansion, but now the zombie apocalypse has followed her home. Jill tries to make a desperate escape from a city overrun with undead mutants, but finds that one specific and very angry monster is gunning specifically for her. And he does actually have a gun, by the way. Nemesis does not mess around. Also, we get distracted and talk about Resident Evil 7 for a while, but don't worry; we stick to joke spoilers.
Michael Saba and Ragnar Ulricson overcome their fears and revisit Spencer Mansion in Resident Evil's newest HD Remaster together. This time live, together in the same room in Atlanta, Georgia, minutes after finishing the game in combined forces. This week, we return to the world of survival horror with the recently re-released 2002 prequel, Resident Evil Zero! Have you ever wondered what happened the night BEFORE that fateful night in the Spencer Mansion? Well, good news! Rebecca Chambers returns and her journey from the crashed Bravo Team helicopter to the dreaded Spencer Mansion was far more complex and dangerous than previously thought. Rebecca, assisted by an escaped convict with a heart of gold(?), must brave a legion of undead ghouls and grotesque leeches as she ventures through a spooky train, a second spooky mansion in the forest, subterranean laboratories, and also...a sewer. All the while, the dark past of the Umbrella Corporation unravels around her. Special cameo appearance by everyone's favorite traitorous cad, Albert Wesker!
It was inevitable. This week we delve into the world of survival horror with the game that brought the genre to the mainstream, the iconic Resident Evil. We largely focus on the 2002 remake of the original, purely because there’s extra stuff there, but we also discuss the original release on the PS1 and even, briefly, the official Resident Evil Novelization. Resident Evil is, on the surface, a fairly simple story about a glorified SWAT team investigating a series of murders and stumbling upon a deadly conspiracy. Below the surface, it is a writhing mass of madness and buffoonery that somehow manages to successfully combine creeping dread with B-Movie ultra-camp to create one of the most fun experiences in video game history. Marvel as Jill Valentine tangles with enigmatic clues and short term memory loss. Thrill as Chris Redfield overcomes his own illiteracy! Can our heroes defeat such dangerous foes as plants, weather vanes, and a brief foray into a different horror game altogether? Is that friggin’ Dracula?! Tune in to Episode 22 to discover what EVIL RESIDENTS lurk in the creaky old Spencer Mansion.
Resident Evil actors for Albert Wesker, Chris Redfield, Barry Burton celebrate our 4th anniversary, as Peter Jessop, Joe Whyte, Ed Smaron exclusively feature. Commencing in the mansion bar Joe Whyte discusses his E3 2015 on location report from Capcom's Resident Evil 0 booth, including an exclusive statement from Rebecca Chambers actor Riva Di Paola. Afterwards in the mansion dining room we join Peter and Ed for our panel discussion. Drawing the night to a close our celebrity Resident Evil quiz with these leading actors from Resident Evil!
