Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com On January 18, 2023, the Harley-Davidson New 2023 Models were released.  This included seven anniversary models, two new models, and the return of one model.  In this episode, we wrapped up everything we learned and put it into a nice package for you.     See our video on the topic!   Anniversary Models    The first six of the seven total anniversary models share a unique paint scheme described as Heirloom Red with a Midnight Crimson Fade and highlighted powertrain components. These models will have oxblood-colored inserts on the seats.  And, the Anniversary models sharing this paint scheme are the Ultra Limited, Tri Glide Ultra, Street Glide Special, Road Glide Special, Fat Boy, and Heritage Classic. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE The seventh Anniversary Model is the CVO Road Glide Limited, being the only anniversary model with the larger 117 Cubic Inch M8 engine.  Its paint is a bit different and can be described as Anniversary Black and Midnight Crimson fade. And when viewed in the sun there is a red highlight to the black.  A subdued eagle split up between the fairing, tank, and bags. Generally speaking, only about 3,000 to 1100 of each anniversary model will be released and they'll all have serialized consoles. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! NEW MODELS The Breakout is returning to the lineup with that beautiful Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-Twin engine.  This bike will have a very wide rear tire, coming in at 240mm, a 5-gallon gas tank, and a 36-degree front rake, which makes it a long, low, wide, modern cruiser. The Nightster Special is the next new model for 2023.  What's so “Special” about this new Nightster?  To start, it has a passenger pillion and footpegs to allow two-up riding.  The handlebars and risers move the bars up and back for a more commanding rider position.  It has a four-inch round TFT display, replacing the analog speedometer and segmented LCD indicators, allowing for BlueTooth connectivity and navigation.  The Nightster Special is coming standard with cruise control, USB charging port, and you can add heated grips.  This new model is going to be a surprise for some. And for many out there, it is a long time coming.  It is the all-new Road Glide 3 Trike.  I'm going to say right up front that even if you've never been interested in trikes, this one is sure to turn your head a bit. Many riders have requested a Road Gide trike for years now and it looks like Harley made it happen.  A lot of engineering went into making the first Harley trike with a frame-mounted fairing including things like the placement of the fairing to accommodate the long rake and steering dampening of the trike. Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Get Ohlins Suspension for your Harley Davidson!  We installed the Ohlin's FKS 226 Harley NIX 22 Front Cartridge Kiton my 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special. After riding my Harley with the newly installed Ohlin's front suspension on a 10-day, 4,000-mile road trip, and on many different road surfaces, I can highly recommend this suspension and decided to carry Ohlin's right in the Law Abiding Biker Store. In our tutorial video, we show you exactly how to install Ohlin's front suspension and how to adjust things so you have the proper preload and proper rebound dampening. We also installed the Ohlins 13" S36 Blackline Rear Shocks on my 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special. I highly recommend these shocks and decided to carry Ohlin's right in the Law Abiding Biker Store.  In our tutorial video, we show you exactly how to install Ohlin's rear shocks and how to adjust things so you have the proper sag and proper rebound dampening. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE I was not happy with the overall ride of my 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special, which came with the standard front suspension Harley has used for many years now on its touring models, which has no adjustments. Unfortunately, it is what it is.  I wanted a smoother ride, better cornering abilities, and adjustable preload and dampening, all of which the Ohlin's FKS 226 Harley NIX 22 Front Cartridge Kit has! Upon ordering from the Law Abiding Biker Store, you'll get to choose an Ohlin's front suspension spring that will be adequate for your particular weight.  I was also not happy with the standard manually adjustable rear shocks that Harley has used for many years now on its touring models.  I wanted a smoother ride, better cornering abilities, and adjustable preload and dampening, all of which the Ohlins 13" S36 Blackline Rear Shocks have!  GET OHLIN'S FRONT & REAR SUSPENSION IN THE LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE! WHY I CHOSE 13" SHOCKS: A Harley Street to Road Glide Special comes stock with 12" shocks and you can certainly maintain the 12" when choosing your Ohlin's rear shocks from the Law Abiding Biker Store. However, I ride and corner my Harley hard and am constantly dragging floorboards and supports. By installing the 13" Ohlin's rear shocks, I raised my Street Glide Special 1" which gives me more lean angle. It's definitely noticeable when riding. You really can't visually tell the bike has been raised 1". Note that Harley models like the Ultra Classic come stock with 13" shocks. The special models come with 12" shocks.  CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! I was absolutely blown away at how much smother my Harley rode and cornered after installing Ohlin's suspension! I did not realize what a difference good shocks would make! It even got rid of most of the bagger wobble while cornering at faster speeds.  My Harley just rode like a completely different bike! LAB-308-Harley-Davidson 2022 Street Glide ST Real World Test Ride & Review | Behind The Scenes Of Filming The Project

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com I recently test rode and reviewed the new Harley-Davidson 2022 Street Glide ST. Harley shipped me the bike and let me have it for 30 days so I was able to really evaluate it. This bike was a dream to ride and overall performed very well. This bike comes with the Milwaukee-Eight 117 ci air/oil cooled V-Twin engine with a heavy breather, making around 106 horsepower and 126 ft. lbs. of torque. That was apparent when I got into the power band at around 3500 rpm. The bike has plenty of get up and go and you can easily pass and get around slower traffic.  This bike was inspired by the King of the Baggers series and you should really check it out if you haven't. This ST sits an inch higher than a Harley Street Glide Special model, which makes it the same height as models such as the Ultra Limited. This provides for more lean angle on the ST model and I found that to be the case during my testing. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Harley was able to shave 13 lbs off the Street Glide ST in comparison to a Street Glide Special model, making the ST weigh in at around 814 lbs in operating condition. Some of the weight savings are because the Harley Street Glide ST only comes with a solo seat and has no passenger pegs but you can add both after purchase. The saddlebags are also squared off and don't contour the mufflers like on the special models.  Law Abiding Biker Podcast Episode #295: The Harley Street & Road Glide ST-Guests Paul James, Bjorn Shuster, and Eric Buckhouse of Harley-Davidson The Street Glide ST has a 19-inch front tire and 18-inch rear tire, 49 mm dual bending valve front forks, premium standard height (13 inch) hand-adjustable rear suspension, dual front and single disc rear brakes, 6 speed transmission, Boom Box GTS Infotainment System, and 6 gallon fuel tank. The ST gets 41 mpg in premium operating conditions. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! The Harley Street Glide ST is a great foundation if you are going to build it out as more of a hot rod. It was designed for weight, power, and performance and for it to be faster, more nimble, and have more lean angle. And, for the first time you get that CVO power train in a non-CVO bike The ST is really a blank canvas for performance parts and you could easily make the Milwaukee Eight 117 ci engine a 131 ci engine with a stage four kit. There are plenty of OEM Harley performance parts for the Street Glide ST to include Ohlins suspension.  And as always, you'll get an honest review on this website and on our YouTube Channel. Yes, Harley loaned me the bike but in no way was I paid for this review and Harley has never told me what or what I cannot say or I simply would not do these reviews.  NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: A Real World Harley Street Glide ST Ride and Review Pros: I really liked the stock stereo system with the Boom Box GTS Infotainment System with two-way speakers and it was pretty loud and clear, even when traveling at freeway speeds with a full-face helmet. During the time we had the ST we did a Boss Audio Stereo/Amp Kit install on another bike and tested it against the stock Harley system. Of course, the Boss Audio system was much louder.  I like that the Harley Street Glide ST sits an inch higher for that extra lean angle and I really liked the look of the differing front fender.  I am 5'-08" tall and the bike fit me fine and I was flat footed when stopped with plenty of bend in my knees. The stock seat was pretty comfortable and has a nice curve up in the back, keeping you in the saddle when rolling the throttle and giving some lower back support. But, if I was long distance touring I'd replace the seat.  The stock suspension performed very well, even when on a gravel road with potholes.   Cons:  The Boom Box Infotainment System does not come with a WHIM (Wireless Headset Interface Module) out of the factory. The WHIM allows you to have Bluetooth headset connectivity with the Boom Box while using a Harley branded Sena wireless headset. You need this to activate both Apple Car Play and Android Auto. You can also use a Harley branded 7 pin wired headset instead. If you want any wireless headset functionality though, you'll have to add a WHIM during or after your purchase. I think that all Harley's with the Boom Box should come stock with the WHIM like the CVO models do.  The Harley Street Glide ST comes with a LED headlight and taillight but the front and rear signals are still halogens.  Lurch is 6'-4" tall and also test rode this bike. He reported that his shin was up against the heavy breather and that he'd have to change that out immediately with a lower profile air intake. He'd also move the floorboards forward, install an extended brake pedal, and install taller handlebars.  Final Thoughts: Really, the question is whether you spend the extra $2,500 on the Harley Street Glide ST or save it by buying a Street Glide Special.  I'd say that if you are really looking to have a hot rod of a bike, add many performance parts, and really push it in the corners then the ST should be your choice.  If you're looking to do more relaxed riding, tour long distances, and maybe have a passenger, the Street Glide Special is all set up for that upon purchase with a passenger seat and pegs and is $2,500 less. But, it does have the smaller Milwaukee-Eight 114 ci engine with a few less horsepower and overall torque. It's still a great engine and has plenty of power for most.   With that said, make no mistake about it, the Harley Street Glide ST would be awesome too for long distance touring if you set it up with a passenger seat and pegs. Overall, I can say that you will not be disappointed if you buy the Harley Street Glide ST and it was a dream to ride. Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, I'm joined by Lurch and we discuss that Harley-Davidson recently flew me to Santa Barbara, California to test ride and review the 2022 Nightster.  It was a very quick 4-day trip, 2 of those days being travel days. Understand, Harley-Davidson paid for the flights, meals, and lodging. However, no contract was mentioned or signed and I was never told what I could or could not say, so I will give you an unbiased real-world biker review as always. Now, I had many questions about this new Nightster and anticipated how it might feel and handle when riding it. There was only one way to find out and it started when I arrived at the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort where I'd be staying for the next few days, and I got checked into my room. I quickly made my way to dinner where Harley had set up the "instrument of expression" launch event.  SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE As I walked around the room this first night I had time to really think about what the new 2022 Nightster means now and to the future of Harley-Davidson as a company. I really had time to reflect on Harley-Davidson's rich history with their bikes of the past, and in many ways, they've carried much of that history over and put it into their present-day motorcycles. As Willie G. Davidson once said, "Everything we do is the notion that form follows function-but both report to emotion" and I wanted to see if that would be the case with the Nightster. But, what do these new water-cooled Revolutions Max engines in the Pan America, Sporster S, and now the 2022 Nightster with the 975T version really mean?  Is Harley fazing out the traditional big V-Twin air-cooled engines? During my time in and around Santa Barbara, I'd get these questions answered and a whole bunch more.  Make sure to watch my review video to find out the answers.   CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! I found the 2022 Nightster to be a fast nimble bike that was very capable of carving up twisty canyon roads.  The horsepower may be intimidating to new riders, but that can be mitigated by the different ride modes.  The bike can be tamed down by using Rain Mode, then a rider could progress to Road Mode, and eventually Sport Mode.  The Nightster was designed with customization in mind.  I think Harley did a great job designing it. NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: Harley-Davidson 2022 Nightster! Is This The Beginning? Test Ride & Review! There were a few negatives I found, and admittedly they are a bit nit-picky.  First, the front-mounted radiator is not visually appealing to me personally.  I know it's required to get the performance and horsepower out of the engine.  I guess I'm old-school and I'll just have to learn to get used to the radiator.  Secondly, the plastic trim on top of the tank (airbox) looks cheap and is a bit flimsy.  I would have liked to see something made of metal in its place.  And lastly, the control switch housings were also made of plastic.  I would prefer metal ones like on my Street Glide Special.   Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this podcast episode, I explain what you need to know about the new 2021 Harley-Davidson model line-up. These were all revealed at Harley's first-ever global virtual launch event held online on January 19, 2021. I put a video out on our YouTube Channel shortly after the event. SEE VIDEO-The Real 2021 Harley Model Event-The Facts & Issues You Need to Know!! There are some issues I discovered, such as the new 2021 Harley touring models are coming with a cable clutch instead of a hydraulic clutch that has been on touring models since 2014. There were some recalls on the hydraulic clutch system over the years but it seemed to have been resolved. We really have no idea why Harley did this because these are supposed to be “premium motorcycles” and cable clutches are yesterday's technology.  I think this is going to irritate many customers since other motorcycle companies are using hydraulic clutches.  SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE And it seems at this time that you can no longer put current model aftermarket electronic fuel injection (EFI) tuners on your Harley.  They seemed to have changed the data port, so the current tuners won't plug into the engine control module (ECM). I have no doubt though, that aftermarket EFI tuner companies are already working on a solution for this, so it will just be a matter of time. Until then, you can only use a Harley Screamin' Eagle (SE) EFI tuner but they are terrible and don't do much as far as tuning.  Harley can use and sell the SE tuner because it is restricted and therefore EPA compliant.  This is also likely the reason Harley had to make this overall data port change, to try and block aftermarket tuners that are not restricted.  The new Harley CVO line-up will be the Street Glide, Road Glide, Limited, and Tri-Glide, which all have several paint options. They will be coming with the Milwaukee-Eight 117 ci. V-Twin engine. Harley partnered with Rockford Fosgate and the Street Glide CVO and Road Glide CVO will not come with the Harley Audio by Rockford Fosgate Stage 2 Audio system. The Limited and Tri-Glide will come with the standard Boom Audio Stage 1.  CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! The Harley “special” series models will be the Street Glide, Road Glide, and Road King. Harley may have been listening to customers because you now have a black or chrome option on the Street Glide Special and Road Glide Special but not on the Road King Special. Many traditional chrome lovers were not happy that the special models only came in a blacked-out option over the past years. These special models will have the Milwaukee-Eight 114 ci. V-Twin engine.  Also revealed were the Street Bob 114 and the iconic Fat Boy for 2021 and they both look great.  Overall, the bikes and paint options look great on these 2021 Harley models and I'm excited to see them in person at some point.  It's also worth noting that on February 22, 2021, Harley released their first adventure touring motorcycle, the Pan America. The announcement comes less than a year after the company had reported plans to offer fewer models after facing years of declining sales, particularly in the U.S. – its biggest market – as it tried to adapt to an aging customer base while looking to expand markets overseas. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/motorcyclemadhouse/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/motorcyclemadhouse/support

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com We were filming a Harley handlebar install on Popeye's new 2019 Street Glide. It was a long day and somehow when putting the ignition back on it got misaligned, which is a frustrating issue, to say the least. Then we checked my Street Glide Special to cross-check it and try to figure out what went wrong. In the process, we misaligned my Harley ignition.  See our awesome Harley Handlebar Install Videos and save yourself a large amount of money by doing the project yourself. There's no need to pay a dealership to do this and we can show you how.  SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Anyways, over the next several days, I spent a lot of time figuring out how to actually take the ignition apart and fix it without having to buy a new one. Of course, I then shared it with the biker community on our YouTube Channel. Knowing this information will save you time, money, and frustration. There are no instructions for fixing the internals of the ignition in the Harley service manuals because if something goes wrong they want you to replace the entire ignition at a cost of over $100 plus labor. You can't even buy the internal parts to the Harley ignition. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! In my tutorial video, I show you how to remove the ignition switch from your Harley-Davidson touring model. I then show you how to re-install it. At times, the ignition can come out of alignment when removing the switch and the shaft won’t go back in or is stuck inside.  SEE HARLEY IGNITION REPAIR VIDEO HERE  Further, I show you how to take the entire ignition apart and fix the alignment problem. There’s no need to take your Harley to a mechanic for this and you can do it yourself. There is also a Harley ignition specialty tool that can help fix the issues and I'll show you how to use it. Lots of accessory options with Harley. Way more than Indian! More saddlebag space in Harley Milwaukee-eight 107" ci motor has great power. Harley 107 ci motor has a touch more acceleration than the Indian Thunderstroke 111 with air, exhaust, and EFI tuner upgrades on both. So, the Milwaukee-eight 114" motor will definitely have more power.  Accessories from manufacturer cost a bit less for Harley compared to Indian.  More dealers nationwide f0r Harley-Davidson Harley has a long history with the brand and bikes Harley touring models have a larger fuel tank for riding cross-country Many aftermarket HD accessories work and fit well. Beware of some aftermarket parts for Indian. Harley Cons: With the Harley Boom!™ Box Infotainment System you have to add an expensive Wireless Headset Interface Module (WHIM) in order to have Bluetooth headset paring. And you have to buy a Harley stamped Sena Bluetooth headset in order to get full functionality and stereo sound.  The Indian Ride Command® system is ready to pair with any major brand Bluetooth headset and you get full functionality. You don't have to add anything on.  Some Harley Dealerships are treating their customers very poorly by stating they'll void warranties if a customer adds an aftermarket air intake or mufflers. This is ridiculous & Harley-Davidson dealerships doing this should be ashamed. They are trying to force customers to buy only Harley stamped products and pay mechanics to install simple things.  Service at Harley dealerships-You want to trust they know everything but the fact is that many dealers are not up to speed and properly trained on the emerging technology such as the Boom!™ Box Infotainment System.  Indian pros: Quality bike. Nice touches. Offering traditional styling and new limited editions.  Technology-Ride Command infotainment system works great! Bluetooth built in. Just pair a Bluetooth headset. GPS updates are free for the first 3 years! Indian uses Navi Extras for the GPS maps.  Harley uses Navi Extras for the GPS maps but you must pay $150 to $200 to upgrade your GPS maps in the Boom Box Infotainment System Charger in the saddlebag for electronics comes stock on the Indian Paint is fantastic-Love the color matched inner fairing & front fairing Thunder stoke 111 ci motor has lots of torque. Milwaukee-eight 107 is better in higher gears. Both bikes with similar aftermarket upgrades Smooth/quieter transmission shifts than on the Harley. Not clunky.  Easier oil changes on Indian. One hole.  Electronic saddlebag lock & unlock electronically. A nice feature that's not available on Harley.  Indian Cons: Indian is owned by Polaris, who make a ton of other things. Are they really focusing on the Indian or on their many other products?  Harley is primarily focused on producing motorcycles Small saddlebag compared to Harley. The design is an illusion and looks very big from the outside, but inside it's significantly less space Indian has a smaller gas tank. Harley has a 6-gallon gas tank. Indian has only a 5.5-gallon and you should you pack an extra gallon of fuel if riding cross-country with Harley touring riders? Fairing feels more in the face compared to Harley Road Glide. Similar to a Harley Street Glide feel. Taller riders on the Indian will need to adjust at first but you can get used to it. Much more limited options on aftermarket products for Indian Expensive parts compared to Harley A much smaller network of Indian dealerships.  Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! He traded in his 2012 Road King to make this purchase. I wanted to put this podcast & article out for our entire Law Abiding Biker Community or anyone else who may be considering purchasing this motorcycle. Harley Davidson Boom!™ Box Infotainment System! 3 Must See videos on everything you need to know on how to operate the new Boom!™ Box Infotainment System. Don't be frustrated, I will show you how. TUTORIAL VIDEO-Complete Harley Davidson "Boom Box" Infotainment System GPS Stereo Tutorial  TUTORIAL VIDEO-Harley Davidson Boom Box Infotainment Software & Map Update Tutorial TUTORIAL VIDEO-Complete Harley Davidson Ride Planner & GPS Guide He ended purchasing the vivid black colored model, which costs less than a model with other custom colors. The 2015 Street Glide Special sports the air cooled 103” cu in V-Twin High Output Motor (1690 cc). There is also an integrated oil cooler. This 103 cu in V-Twin now comes stock with the 255 cam kit already installed. The 255 cam offers substantial increase in low-end torque. He has has been very impressed with the performance of this motor and it is a runner for sure. It is awesome to have that extra power at take off and when passing for certain. This bike really gets up and goes and feels extremely smooth. The 2015 Street Glide Special comes stock with a hydraulic clutch, 6 speed Cruise Drive transmission, of course the 6 gallon fuel tank, and the bike weighs in at 818 lbs. The motor has Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI). The engine is said to get around 42 miles per gallon combined city/highway and we have found that to be accurate. The 2015 Street Glide Special sports beautiful stock black Enforcer Cast Aluminum wheels on front and back. The front wheel is 19 inches and has a Dunlop D408F 130/60B19 tire, while the rear wheel is 16 inches and has a Dunlop D407T 180/65B16. The tires handle well and you can drag floorboards all day long around corners! The gauges on the dash now run along the top, making room for the 6” touch screen Boom Box Infotainment System below. Check out our #1 Ranked Boom Box Tutorial Video!. The system is pretty awesome, but there is a rather steep learning curve. We teach you everything you  need to know on how to operate the new system and how to keep your software up to date, which is critical. The speedometer and tachometer are 10% larger and have 68% wider numbers. It has a 28% larger fuel and volt gauge with 30% wider numbers. The display features odometer, trip A, trip B, range to empty, and gear indicator. All the gauges are beautifully backlit. On the left handlebar controls on top is a trigger switch (odometer, trip A, trip B, and range to empty). Also on the left handlebar controls is a switch to operate voice commands via a headset to the Boom Box Infotainment System. The cruise control is now solely operated by a joystick and has been moved to the left handlebar controls. Now you can rock the throttle back with your right hand and set the cruise with your left. This was a very nice change. On the right handlebar controls is an information switch to display ambient temperature, oil pressure and whether your engine idle temperature management system (EITMS) is enabled. This is all displayed on the large 6” Boom Box Infotainment System Screen. These are all new ergonomic hand controls and include joysticks on each side to control all the functions of the Boom Box Infotainment System and cruise control. I can tell you that everything to operate the electronics is right at your fingertips and feels great! The inside of the fairing is beautiful on the 2014 Street Glide Special and is painted in an eye catching gloss black finish. This really completes the inside of fairing and makes it stand out. Of course the new front fairing vent or "wind tunnel" is a huge new addition to the 2014 Street Glide Special. You can close the vent by a large button on the upper left inside of the fairing. This new vent is placed there to reduce head buffeting, which it does. Essentially the air rushes through the fairing vent and shoots a wall of air straight up in front of you in order to slow the oncoming air. This is my assessment of how it operates. I have tested this vent "wind tunnel" in all different conditions and at many different speeds. My personal estimation is that it reduces head buffering by about 25-30%. The only time I can see that I would close the vent is during extremely heavy rains or hail. I have opened it and closed on very cold mornings and nights and it does not seem to matter. The only downfall to the new fairing vent is that you would not want to install inside fairing storage pouches on your dash, as it would block the wind tunnel, but I believe the trade off is well worth it. The FLHXS comes standard with dual front brakes, ABS, and the new linked braking system they call the Reflex Braking System. Essentially in an emergency stop, not only do the ABS brakes kick in, but if you apply too much front or rear brakes, the sensors within recognize this problem and even out the braking pressures. This all results in very quick braking in an emergency. New Patrons: Carl Lingelbach of Appolo, PA Robert Henze of Walden NY If you appreciate the content we put out and want to make sure it keeps on coming your way then become a Patron too! There are benefits and there is no risk. The beautiful thing is that the linked braking system does not kick in until 20-25 mph. This is super important for motorcycle law enforcement officers, who do a lot of low speed aggressive maneuvers and have to use the rear brake a lot while doing so. On other brands of bikes that had similar linked type brakes, they activated even at very low speeds, making the slow speed maneuvers much more difficult for the police motorcycle officer. This of course goes for anyone who practices or knows how to perform aggressive slow speed maneuvers. Harley Davidson really thought this one out! A few other things worth mentioning are the restyled hard saddle bags with a one touch design latch, dual halogen headlight, 49 mm telescopic front forks, stiffer triple clamps, larger steering bearings, low profile front fender, Jukebox media compartment with a USB connection and one touch access door, and of course the Harley Davidson Factory Security System with hands free security fob. All these additions and changes have made an awesome riding 2014 Harley Davidson Street Glide Special. The bike is tight, smooth, fast, and powerful. It corners like a dream and it is even hard to tell how fast you are going unless looking at the speedometer. That is how smooth this bike runs. The new Boom Box Infotainment System with integrated GPS is just what I was calling for. The audio system sounds great and can be heard fine, even at freeway speeds. The only thing we did to the bike for now is install an aftermarket EFI tuner and replaced the stock mufflers with Vance and Hines Dresser Twin Slash Rounds slip on mufflers. We have a free video on removing/installing aftermarket exhaust. We also have a free tutorial video on installing a Stage One Air Intake and installing a Dyno Jet Power Commander V EFI tuner, which we will be doing eventually. MAIN WEBSITE: http://www.lawabidingbiker.com LISTENER HOTLINE: (509) 731-3548 PODCAST-Ever been stuck at a traffic light that takes an excruciating amount of time — what feels like hours — to turn green? Imagine that as a daily occurrence. That is what it’s like for some motorcyclists/bikers due to sensors at some intersections that don’t recognize when lightweight vehicles arrive. During the last legislative session, a new section was added to Chapter 46.61 RCW in Washington State that allows the operator of a street legal motorcycle to make a left turn, after stopping at an intersection that is controlled by a triggered traffic control signal, if the device fails to operate after one cycle of the traffic signal. Other states have had laws for some time and they are often referred to as "Safe on Red Laws". Safe-on-red laws vary by state on how they address the issue, but they all include basic instructions on how one can legally run a red light. In general, the guidelines say motorcyclists must wait at the light for a predetermined amount of time and then only proceeding through the intersection if it’s free of cross traffic or pedestrians. States with "Safe on Red Laws" are listed here: Arkansas - In effect since 2005, state law allows a motorcyclist to proceed with caution, after coming to a full and complete stop, through a red light that fails to detect the bike. (Arkansas Code section 27-52-206) Idaho – (2006) If a signal fails to operate after one cycle of the traffic light that a motorcyclist may proceed, using due caution and care, after coming to a full and complete stop at the intersection. (Statute 49-802) Illinois - (2012) Permits a driver of a motorcycles or bicycle facing a red light that fails to change within a reasonable period of time of not less than 120 seconds to proceed after yielding the right-of-way to any oncoming traffic. However, this law doesn’t apply to municipalities of over 2,000,000 people – such as Chicago. (625 ILCS 5/11-306) Minnesota - (2002) A person operating a bicycle or motorcycle who runs a red light has an affirmative defense if the driver first came to a complete stop, the traffic light stayed red for an unreasonable amount of time and appeared not to detect the vehicle and no motor vehicles or people were approaching the street. (Statute 169.06) Missouri – (2009) State law tells both motorcyclists and bicyclists that run red lights that they have an affirmative defense if they brought their vehicle to a complete stop, the light was red for an unreasonable time period, and there were no motor vehicle or person approaching. (Statute 304.285) Nevada - (2013) Those using motorcycles, bicycles, mopeds, and tri-mobiles are allowed to proceed through an intersection with a red light after waiting for two traffic light cycles, and they yield to other vehicle traffic or pedestrians. (Statute 484B.307) North Carolina - (2007) Motorcyclists are permitted to move cautiously through a steady red light after coming to a complete stop and waiting a minimum of three minutes and if no other vehicle or pedestrians are approaching the intersection. (NCGS 20-158) Oklahoma - (2010) Motorcycles can proceed cautiously through a steady red light intersection after a making a complete stop and if no other motor vehicle or person is approaching the roadway. (Statute 47-11-202) South Carolina - (2008) After making a complete stop and waiting for a minimum of 120 seconds, the driver of a motorcycle, moped, or bicycle may treat a steady red light that doesn’t change as a stop sign and proceed with caution. (S.C. Code 56-5-970) Tennessee - (2003) After coming to a complete stop, motorcyclists and bicyclists may proceed through a steady red light when it is safe to do so. (Tennessee Traffic Control Signals 55-8-110) Virginia – (2011) Drivers of motorcycles, mopeds, and bicycles may move with caution through non-responsive red lights as long as they yield the right-of-way to others approaching the intersection, and have come to a complete stop for two complete light cycles or 120 seconds, whichever is shorter.(Statute 46-2-833) Wisconsin - (2006) A motorcycle, moped or bicycle is permitted to run a steady red light after making a complete stop and waiting at least 45 seconds and then yields the right–of-way to any vehicular traffic or pedestrians using the intersection. (Statute 346.37) In early 2013, Nebraska introduced Bill LB 85 proposing a safe-on-red law, but the bill currently has a status of “indefinitely postponed.” Cell Phone Motorcycle Mount: We want to remind everyone that we did a complete review video and blog on cell phone motorcycle mounts from Power Sports US. We really like the mounts and if you order a cell phone or GPS mount please consider using our Power Sports US AFFILIATE LINK and we get a small kick back, which helps keep the content coming your way. Harley Davidson Ride Planner App Review: (listen to this podcast episode to get the full review) So, I strongly encourage all bikers/motorcyclists to use the free Harley Davidson Ride Planner, regardless of what make of motorcycle you ride, to route and map your next motorcycle ride. Everyone can access Harley Ride Planner on the main Harley Davidson website. You just need to set up a free user and password and you are on your way. I did a complete Harley Ride Planner tutorial video on using the ride planner some time back & it has become very popular. In this [tutorial video] you will learn how to completely plan a ride with Ride Planner, save it, download it, and upload it into your Harley Davidson approved GPS system. There is also a free smartphone app that Harley puts out for free. The app can be useful if you don't have a GPS, but after thoroughly testing it we found some real drawbacks. If you save your rides online they do show up on your mobile app, which is pretty cool. There are listed turn by turn directions that you can read too. You can zoom in on your ride and see the route and it looks similar to Google Maps. Additionally, it shows all your way points and the addresses in the list view. It even has a little social media aspect and you can show the community particular restaurants you were at. The Ride Planner app has some serious flaws, like being completely inaccurate on the mileage to your next way point. And it tends to change that mileage figure when it wants. So, we would have to jump over into Google Maps when planning the next day and put our current location to the next way point location to get the actual mileage. Also, it lacks voice turn by turn directions. However, I doubt Harley will change this as they want you to purchase their GPS units or buy a new Harley model with the all new built in Boom Box Infotainment system. I do love the Harley Boom Box system that is on my 2014 Street Glide Special and I did a very thorough tutorial video on how to operate that system. That video is super popular, so check it out. Here are several Law Abiding Biker videos that you may be interested in on motorcycle ride planning, GPS Boom Box operations, and updating your Boom Box software: Boom Box Infotainment Boom Box Software Update Harley Davidson Ride Planner Emails 1: Robert Nelson of Bend, OR This is my second time visiting your site, seems to get cooler each time I take a peek! I plan on purchasing your video on installing heated grips. I like your logic for choosing HD brand but I'm not impresed with their selection. Are you aware of other brands that use similar technology (not a fan of Heat Demon-in the bar element). I like the Avon all black "air cushion" style. HD's all black version reminds me of my stock grips (2013 Road Glide). I look forward to learning more about your MC. MY RESPONSE: Very cool bro & thanks for your kind words. On our way back from our 7 day motorcycle trip we came back through Bend. We had a few frosties at Deschuttes Brewery. Of course I had to stop by Goodies and get my girls a bunch of candy to bring back. Anyways, unfortunately nobody else really has the same technology on heated grips. I too do not like the Heat Demon in bar elements. I think they are junk and you have to put a separate box on your handlebars. For some reason good quality heated aftermarket grips are hard to come by. 2: Listener Gary Kreamer Bought new tires off the internet for my 2006 street glide. I guess that was a big mistake because no one around here {shops] will take off and install. Want you to buy from them. [ I understand now ] Not sure what to do now. Watch your video on you tube and afraid I might screw up. Been only riding 1 1/2 year from a 25 yr s of not riding. Lost. My response I have purchased tires from the internet many times. Just find any bike shop, not a Harley Dealer, and they will do it for a small fee. All bike shops have tire machines and know how to remove/replace tires/wheels. OUR OFFICIAL WEBSITE IS ==> http://www.lawabidingbiker.com PODCAST-In this episode we read an email from a listener who had some great questions about riding motorcycles in a biker club environment or setting. We discuss this topic and try to shed some light on it. We here at Law Abiding Biker Podcast and Media are members of the Sworn Few Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club (LEMC) and he asked how we specifically do it in our club. We have specific ways we ride within the Sworn Few LEMC and we share that information with you. We throw out some ideas that may work or not work for other Law Abiding Biker clubs. It turns into a very good discussion and certainly a topic we may follow up on in the future. Below is the email question from Todd of Western Washington State and we want to thank him for contacting us. His email made a whole podcast episode topic for us. He had some internesting insight into how his club currently rides within their motorcycle biker club environment. You really must listen to this biker podcast episode. Thanks man! I really appreciate the work you guys do in regards to the podcast. By far one of the best motorcycling podcasts out there. Hey guys, I'm a fellow LE biker type from a large nondescript Sheriff's Office over here in Seattle. I've been hammering through your podcasts and dig the information you have been putting out, even though not all of it necessarily applies to me. I also ride with a dedicated group of guys, albeit a different setup than a classic MC or LEMC. We are less structured, don't necessarily require LE credentials (although a majority are), and are open to all makes of bikes. We do have three "founding fathers" who largely steer the group and have veto power over anything contradictory to the benefit of the group as a whole. I was curious if you'd do a podcast or a portion of one on group ride dynamics. By that, I am curious as to your club's take on riding positions when you guys are in formation, if they are flexible, and what you feel each of those positions mean for you. I am well aware of standard MC protocols, but was curious if you had a variant on that take. As for us, we typically have three set positions on our rides. I generally serve as a road captain as I consider myself one of the stronger riders and navigators. We also put a strong rider in the middle and one at the rear to provide some necessary encouragement to those who are sandbagging. We like to ride aggressively (not like ass holes) and tight. We also recognize when dudes kind of want to do their own thing as far as riding styles and try to accommodate that when the roads allow for it. Another thought I am curious about is your club's feelings on a pair of dudes breaking off to do their own thing while in a particular area. We used to be against it for safety and logistical reasons, but we have since amended to having a standing rule of no less than two breaking off and a hard rally point where no one leaves from until we are all back together. All in all, I'm just looking to maximize our riding experiences. I'd appreciate your insight as you are a traditional MC and from the sounds of it, you seem to be making it work. Thanks! Todd The Sworn Few Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club (LEMC) follows a traditional motorcycle biker club formation when riding to events, short rides, on formal occasions, or any other time the President deems necessary. The traditional motorcycle biker club formation is as follows when riding motorcycles two abreast. Front left position is the President Front Right Position is the Road Captain Directly behind that are the other fully patched color wearing members to include the Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer At the rear to the right is the Sergeant at Arms Directly behind the fully patched color wearing members are the probationary/prospective members and follow the fully patched color wearing members At that tail are the hang arounds When the Sworn Few Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club are on longer cross country rides for many days at a time we fall from these traditional positions as it would be boring to maintain and gives everyone a bit of freedom to just ride and enjoy the scenery. However, we still ride hard and to a specific level and fall back into formation if necessary. Often times not everyone will have a GPS unit on their bike, so it may be necessary for any member to take the lead to get to our destination. You really must take seriously who you choose to join your motorcycle biker club and that they have the proper riding skills. We get into this in depth on this podcast and reveal some of the things the Sworn Few LEMC has in place to make this happen. At times the Sworn Few LEMC Officers or fully patched color wearing members will allow hang arounds or prospective members into the main riding formation for short periods. This is simply part of our long prospective member process for the Sworn Few LEMC and to truly observe actual riding abilities of individuals. Any deficiencies need to be addressed and corrected over a period to time or full club member status will never be obtained. The Sworn Few LEMC does train hang arounds or prospective members to ride at a certain level, but not everyone will make it of course. Low speed motorcycle riding and maneuvers is where I see many bikers and motorcycle clubs look very sloppy. It's not that hard to ride fast, but to ride while turning your handlebars tank to tank takes practice and dedication. Dragging feet at low speeds while entering events just looks plain sloppy and will not happen within the Sworn Few LEMC. We are a professional Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club and it all starts with how you ride and how you look. Of course riding at higher speeds handlebar to handlebar around corners takes much practice and time riding together. FREE MOTORCYCLE BIKER VIDEOS! Billy Standley can be seen on his bike in a plexiglass casket. He started planning the burial 18 years ago.  It took five embalmers, three extra burial plots and wood steel reinforcements to make it happen.  Standley also wanted an outdoor funeral so his biker friends could see him off. His children said the motorcycle helped him keep a sense of adventure after he settled down to raise four kids. You ALREADY had the cat removed and new headers installed BEFORE you swapped out the mufflers?? Im asking because I’d like to change the sound of my 2013 ultra classic but do not want to put in the headers right now. The Slash rounds sound great on your sg but I'm thinking that's due mainly to the opened headers?? I’d love to get rid of the sewing machine sound on the stock pipes but not at the cost of re-mapping right now." Response: "Joe; Having the cats out will improve sound some. The significant change is getting rid of the stock muffler. Having the cats benefits performance more than sound. I hope that answered your question. I’ve heard the Twin Slash Rounds on Harleys with cats still in. They sound much better than the stock pipes. They really suffocate the bike with those stock mufflers. Ride Safe!" 2.) Thanks to all the Europe listeners and supporters! From Rick of Europe: "Hey Guy's, I just wanted to Thank You for the great videos... I bought my first Harley(fat bob) a while back and love it..great ride. I'm originally from Western Washington but now live over in Europe..your videos are very popular on this end!!. Just wanted to tell ya Thank you once again and keep up the great work." 3.) In response to 2 FREE videos: The Review blog and video on the Vance and Hines Dresser Twin Slash Duals we did. (headphones required to truly evaluate pipe sounds). http://lawabidingbiker.com/twinslashrounds/ The review blog and video we did on the 2014 Harley Street Glide Special: www.LawAbidingBiker.com/2014StreetGlideSpecial From Michael Allen: "First of all, good job on the Street Glide Special videos. I am picking mine up in June and your videos are awesome. I have a Fat Bob with Vance and Hines Big Radius 2 into 2. I love the sound of them. I am looking for a pipe combination for my new street glide and am looking at the Vance and Hines power duals in Black. I am also looking at the Vance and Hines Blackout Rounds or the Rhinhart 4 inch rounds. Do you have any experience with this combination? I am looking for stereo compatible pipes that do not sacrifice much of the loud pipe design like that of the Big Radius. Would like the Big Shot Duals, but they do not offer it in black for the 2014 touring models. Thanks for your time." Response: "Thanks for the feedback brother! I ran V&H True Duals on my 2011 Harley Street Glide and had no problems hearing my stereo, as the exhaust sound was behind me.  Now, the guys riding behind me weren't all that thrilled about my pipes, but heck I heard my stereo fine....LOL.  I also ran the V&H Big Radius on my Harley Wide Glide and I absolutely loved their look and sound, but I did not have a stereo.  I'm super stoked that you are getting a new SGS!!  You are absolutely going to love it bro.  My opinion is that you will be fine with the V&H Big Shot Duals or V&H black out Rounds or the Rhinhart 4 inch Rounds.  Point is that the sound will be behind you from my experience and it won't affect you in hearing your stereo."  4.) Don't complain if you live in the United States: From John O Keeffe of Ireland: "Just listened to your latest podcast! Great show. Just a little info for you. As you know, I just got a 2014 street glide, unfortunately in Ireland/Europe, we don't get the 6" boom box with sat nav, we can only buy the regular glide and have to buy the special faring as an after market part, $2600. For us to get your boom box system, we need to buy the ultra!! Madness!! Keep up the good work..." Did Fonzie from the TV show Happy Days really ride a motorcycle? Does he ride a motorcycle now? Henry Winkler was the actor that played Fonzie on Happy Days and a character that we all came to know and love. He played the tough “biker” type. Here is a direct link to an article reference Fonzie along with a YouTube link: We opened the show with a little snippet of an awesome song called “Remember the Name”. You can get it on iTunes and elsewhere. Song: Remember the name (2005) Artist: Fort Minor (feat. Styles of Beyond) Album: The Rising Tied (Deluxe Version) LINK: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Minor I found a great video on Facebook. It is an awesome way for bikers/motorcyclists to fold their chaps, so that they take less room in your saddle bags. Additionally, she shows how to roll them and fold them in a way that they then snap together, keeping them rolled tightly. You really must see this video. I shared the video on the Law Abiding Biker Facebook Page and put it below for your viewing. We also play a voicemail from a long time supporter of the Law Abiding Biker/Motorcycle Podcast, Greg Gaxiola. Thanks Greg for your continued support! We go over some ongoing comments on the Law Abiding Biker Media website in reference to my 2014 Street Glide Special review and video. The community is really helping each other out and there is much good information, so check it out! My 2014 Street Glide Special does have adjustable rear shocks. Their is a knob/dial behind the left saddlebag that you can turn to make the suspension softer or firmer. I have not played with this yet, but will in the future and report back. The regular Street Glide has adjustable rear air shocks that you need a bicycle stye pump for. I believe the valve stem to adjust the air shocks is also between the left saddle bag and rear fender. That’s where it was on my 2011 Street Glide anyways. Last, we review an IOS App called GroupMe. The motorcycle club I am in, Sworn Few Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, has utilized the GroupMe App since our inception and find it to be a very useful tool for us to conduct all kinds of club business. GroupMe is a free private chatting app. You can set up as many different groups as you want and assign a photo to each. Each person can also assign themselves a photo. Additionally, you can single a person out of a group and then just talk with them one on one. The GrouMe app has worked flawlessly for our motorcycle club and it is always updated. They have even added some cool new features. You’ll have to listen to this podcast episode to get the whole scoop and review.
