Happy Vernal Equinox, Succotashians! I'm your every-other-weekly-host, Marc Hershon, and thanks for plucking Episode 348 out of the soundcastosphere, an episode I'm calling “A Spring Bouquet of Clips” because, well, this show is dropping close to the first day of Spring! Speaking of Spring, something that's springing up very soon is the 12th anniversary of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Your co-host and mine, Tyson Saner, will be joining me for a celebratory episode where we'll look back on the show's dozen years. We'll have some clips from shows, classic Henderson's Pants ads, some congratulatory messages, and more! It's still not too late if YOU might want to record a quick message with your thoughts and/or feelings on our 12th anniversary! We'd love to play it on the big celebration show! You can call it in, to our Succotash Show and Runaway Truck Ramp Hotline, at (818) 921-7212 OR record it and upload the .wav or MP3 file to us at http://hightail.com/u/Succotash! The aforementioned Mr. Saner was here last week, hosting Episode 347, entitled “Hollywood Adjacent”, and he featured clips from such soundcastery as How Did This Get Made, Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, and Nooner Podcast! I'm not sure where you get your servings of Succotash these days, but know that you can always get it fresh from a bazillion soundcast distribution points on the internet and, as always, on our homesite at SuccotashShow.com. My Spring Bouquet of Clips for you for this episode includes FOGO, Tell Me About It, and The Best Show. In addition, I have another drop-in from comedian Dan St. Paul with a selection from his Slices blog, this one called “The Thai That Unbinds”. At some point during the proceedings, we'll be rudely interrupted by our booth announcer, Bill Heywatt, and an unimportant message from our free-loading, free-wheeling sponsor Henderson's Pants and their new Random Pants, for a truly captive-ating fit. Oy. Let's just get started, shall we? CLIPS FOGO: Fear Of Going Outside I'm not going to lie to you. I don't depend on my own wits and taste when it comes to trying to find out about everything available in the expanding soundcastiverse. I read reviews. I skim “20 Best Comedy Soundcasts This Year!” lists (although they NEVER use the Soundcast word.) And I get email from PR people. One PR “regular” is Kathryn Musilek from Shark Party Media. And she's been telling me for a while to check out the FOGO: Fear Of Going Outside soundcast. So I finally did. And it's terrific! Hosted by Ivy Le, “the most reluctant host ever”, according to the press release. It goes on: “Most nature shows are hosted by reckless white men, but avid indoorswoman Ivy Le is an Asian mom with severe allergies.” I listened to the first couple episodes and it was intriguing to hear the exploits of Ivy as she really wants to try to embrace the great outdoors. In the second season, she's really pretty much looking at her comfort zone in the rearview mirror. In Epi5 of the new season, with the help of Jesse Griffiths, a renowned chef/hunter, Ivy sets out to butcher an entire hog! Tell Me About ItSuccotash listeners have run across Adal Rifai, the host of this next new show, called Tell Me About It, a couple times. First back in 2015 when we clipped Hello from the Magic Tavern in Epi113, where he plays Chunt the Changeling. And again at the end of 2022, in Epi334 when we snipped Hey Riddle Riddle, in which Adal is the co-host. His new show, Tell Me About It, is couched as a game show, with Adal playing himself as an eccentric billionaire who challenges his guests to talk about, argue about and, eventually, defend a topic or thing they love dearly to try to climb the Most Interesting thing scoreboard against previous and future guests. The questions are absurd-ish, the scoring even more so, none of it made any easier because of Eric Silver, Adal's butler, who tries to keep things running smoothly. In our clip, the guest is friend of Succotash and one of the creators of San Francisco Sketchfest Janet Varney, who you may know from Avatar: The Legend of Korra, and her own soundcast, The JV Club. She's onboard to shove her interests in minatures up that scoreboard but first, she has to help host Adal understand what miniatures even are…  The Best ShowI'm not sure how, in 12 years of doing this show, we missed clipping the Best Show with Tom Sharpling. It's not obscure by any means — it was originally a terrestrial radio show — plus I've heard of it for years, and have heard Tom Sharpling on other soundcasts. He's big friends with Marc Maron, too. I guess what finally grabbed me was tht he managed to get an interview with Matt Berry, who I am a huge fan of, and you probably are, too. He's a British comic and actor, and he's a regular on the TV series version of What We Do In The Shadows. ‘Nuff said? In this snippet of their convo, Matt talks about having to decide between pursuing music or comedy…or did he? Slices: The Thai That BindsI played one of these essays in my recent Epi346, from comedian Dan St. Paul's Substack “Slices” blog. He's back with a tale of his first foray going after a Thai massage. Check it out… Clips. An Essay. And a pants commercial. Who can ask for more? As I'm already a day late dropping this episode, I've not got time to dip into the TweetSack this time, but those social handles will keep another couple of weeks. If you're hurting for more Succotash, Tyson Saner will be back around this corner in less than a week with Episode 349 and then it will be just one or two more shows before our 12th Anniversary show! Thanks so much for listening. And, speaking of listening, if anyone asks you if you've heard anything good lately, won't you please pass the Succotash? —    Marc Hershon

Can you believe it? We're here again. You and I, I mean. I am, as our booth announcer Bill Heywatt just intoned, your every-other-weekly-host Marc Hershon. And you're, obviously, you. And this IS Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Episode 346, to be exact. And, if this is your first visit, well, then, you know pretty much what you need to know.  We're just about a month away from celebrating this soundcast's 12th anniversary. TWELVE years! Can you imagine? When Succotash started, the dodo birds were practically still alive, walking the still-cooling surface of the primordial Earth, stalking their favorite prey: the sabretooth tigers. My esteemed co-host, Tyson Saner, and I were conferring this past weekend about our upcoming show to commemorate the 12 years of Succotash and what we're going to do to celebrate. Some past guests and friends of the show are recording some salutations for us. AND we've discussed plans for what changes the next season, our SIXTH season, might bring. (If, by the way, YOU would like to record a quick message with your thoughts and/or feelings on our 12th anniversary, we would love to get it and play on our big celebration show! You can call it in, to our Succotash Show and Runaway Truck Ramp Hotline, at (818) 921-7212 OR record it and upload the .wav or MP3 file to us at http://hightail.com/u/Succotash!) Speaking of Tyson Saner, last week in this very same feed he hosted Episode 345 and brought along his special guest, comedian Josh Barnes. It was an interesting and funny chat with one of the members of the fairly exclusive circle of Extreme Northern California comics, based in Humboldt County. Check it out on Apple and Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Soundcloud, YouTube, Amazon Music, Audible, iHeart Radio, PodBay, Podchaser, and, as always, on our homesite at SuccotashShow.com. For this week's episode, entitled “Clips Like a Lion”, we get back to our more traditional clips-from-comedy-soundcasts formula, with a little extra treat. I've got snippets from the shows Dear Chelsea, The JTrain Podcast, and Two Vegan Idiots. Plus a contribution from comedian Dan St. Paul's Slices blog, called “Rebel Without A Phone”. And we are sponsored by our long-time, non-paying client Henderson's Pants and their just-in-time-for-tax-season Accountant's Pants. That's pretty much the whole preamble I had in mind for this week's show. Let's get to the clips… CLIPS Dear ChelseaWe first check in with comedian, author, and long-running TV show host Chelsea Handler and her soundcast Dear Chelsea. This is a weekly advice show where Chelsea and what are usually her celebrity guests answer questions from listeners to the soundcast. Usually in a funny way but sometimes she can dig into the topic at hand and real. I clipped a recent episode where she had two guests on, and whose main claim to fame is that they are Chelsea's sisters, Shoshanna and Simone. In this clip they talk about how sister Simone went from working in the healthcare industry to becoming a free-range ear piercer. Two Vegan IdiotsThe title of the next show we clipped tells you pretty much all you need to know. Two Vegan Idiots is a soundcast features a pair of British comedians, Carl Donnelly and Julian Deane, usually interviewing a comedian guest each episode. Or, as the show description reads, “Carl tries to interview them while Julian tries to get them cancelled.” The vegan angle is true – they're both meatless eaters, and tend to get a lot of ink from the vegan press – but it's not the focus for their shows, since a lot of their guests seem to be omnivores. Their Epi186 featured returning guest Eleanor Conway, and this snippet has them into the topics of orgasms and also doing interviews on the street, which Eleanor famously does on British television.  The JTrain PodcastJared Freid is a New York-based comedian whose acts focuses a lot on dating and relationships. His soundcast, The JTrain Podcast, shares a similar focus, where he and his comedian guests answer listener emails and get into conversation about the dating life and other things, too. Our clip hails from last month and an episode entitled “Would You Expose A Cheater?” with guest Ashley Hamilton, co-host of the Celebrity Memoirs soundcast, which is what they're kicking around in this clip.  Slices: Rebel Without A PhoneThat's it for our clips this episode but we've got a treat in store. Regular listeners to this show may remember that I featured several comedy blog-pieces-turned-audio-musings from comedian and friend of the show Dan St. Paul. These were contributions to his regular blog Slices, and I'd played around by adding a music bed and some sound effects. Dan picked up the ball and is now doing that himself with the aid of Jimmy Goings. So we'll keep featuring them when they become available. This week I have one of his latest essays called Rebel Without A Phone. You can check Dan St. Paul and his essays out at danstpaul.substack.com, as well as at comedy venues around the San Francisco Bay Area where he's been headlining for years. That's going to do it for our regularly scheduled content for this episode. Remember that Tyson Saner will be here next week with Episode 347 for you. He and I are planning the big upcoming 12th anniversary show, and don't be shy about sending in a note or a recorded salutation for the occasion. You can even do it via Twitter or Instagram by using our @SuccotashShow handle! In the meantime, If you're ever lying in the sand on a beach on a tropical island, and some bully kicks sand in your face to get your attention because you've got your earbuds in, and he asks, “Have you heard anything good lately?”, won't you please pass the Succotash? —    Marc Hershon

Welcome to our first “real” Succotash episode of 2023! I'm Marc Hershon, your host for this week's Episode 338, “First-of-the-Year Foursome”. Here's wishing you and yours a fantastic New Year. As your Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, we'll be bringing you a whole bunch of clips throughout this coming year. Mostly from comedy soundcasts – our name for “podcasts” – but we also vary from that from time to time. All to give you a taste of the hundreds of thousands of shows that are out there in Soundcastland. We sample ‘em for you with hopes you'll be curious enough to go check ‘em out yourself. When I say “we”, in case you're new to this program, it's all about me and my awesome co-host Tyson Saner. (Although we're co-hosts, we prefer to divide and conquer, meaning that we each host alternating weeks.) And the reason I call this the first “real” episode of the year? The past two installments of this soundcast were Succotash “Second Helpings, with the most recent one, Epi337, with your aforementioned loyal and faithful co-host Tyson, featured a reheating of Episode 173 with special guest Hunter Block. You can still catch wherever you find, get, or trap your soundcasts, including Soundclouds, Spotify, PodBay, iHeart Radio, YouTube, Amazon Music, Audible, Stitcher, Apple and Google Podcasts. Feel free to start your hunt right at our homesite, SucccotashShow.com, where the entire archive of almost 12 years of shows has been loving curated for you. So what do I have in store for you, snippet-wise in this installment? I have delectable samples from SNAFU, The Retrospectors' Today in History, The Worst Idea of All Time, and Unpopular Opinion. As if that's not enough, we also have a sparkling, brand new advertisement from our longtime, non-paying, and completely fake sponsor Henderson's Pants, featuring the new Bottoms Up Cargo Pants, with a design inspired by our very own Bill Heywatt. CLIPS SNAFUOur first offering is a clip from a show hosted by comedian, actor, and now soundcaster Ed Helms, who you hopefully know from his stints on The Daily Show, The Office, and the Hangover movie franchise. The show's description puts it best, in that the show is about history's greatest screw-ups. The first season of SNAFU, which recently concluded, delved into the story of something called Able Archer 83, a NATO military exercise that almost touched off a nuclear was in November or 1983. Maybe. If you ever saw, heard about, or remembered a feature film from that same year: Wargames, starring Matthew Broderick as a kid who ends up tangling with a military battle simulator computer that, well, almost starts nuclear Armageddon. Or does it? Anyway, it's a great show, uncovering stuff in history most of us probably don't know anything about. As part of his uncovering the story, Ed talked to both Broderick and the director, John Badham. And after the season was mostly over, he recently dropped a bonus episode featuring his chats with the two Wargamers. We have a sample of his convo with Matthew… The Retrospectors: This Day in HistoryThis is a daily show, as evidenced by the title, but each episode only runs about 10 minutes. So it's either a great kickoff to your other soundcasts or a nice palate cleanser between shows. Hosted by Olly Mann, Rebecca Messina, and Arion McNicoll, each episode is packed full of fascinating tidbits about something in particular that occurred that particular day in the past, as well as many of the trappings that surrounded it. Our clip comes from an episode that dropped last Friday called “Rink-O-Mania!” and rips the cover off the invention and introduction of the first roller skates… The Worst Idea of All TimeI'm reasonably certain that you had to have heard of the next soundcast we're featuring. Hailing from New Zealand, TWIOAT quickly got notoriety when it popped onto the scene in 2014. That's because the two hosts, Guy Montgomery and Tim Batt, centered the whole freshman year of the show by watching and reviewing the Adam Sandler movie Grown Ups 2. Once a week. Every week. For an entire year. Then they went on to do the same thing with Sex and The City 2, Sex and The City, We Are Your Friends, and the Emmanuelle franchise of softcore porn films. Their latest challenge? The Fast and Furious franchise. The franchise. In reverse order. While they still mostly go it alone – who else would want this crazy duty – they occasionally bring in people that are fascinated by their ordeal. Just last week, they dredged through the details of F9, as the 9th installment is lovingly known, with none other than comedian, actor, and soundcast host, performer, producer, and all-time most frequent guest Paul F. Tompkins. In our clip, Paul starts to explain the plot of the film as if he had to pitch it to a crowd of people fleeing a burning theater. Unpopular OpinionComedian and writer Adam Tod Brown and co-host Jeff bring you Unpopular Opinion every week. It's often relevant news and pop culture-related topics, of which the guys often have contrary perspectives. Back a few weeks ago, in December, they dropped an episode entitled “The Ballad of P22”, which was the designation of an storied and infamous mountain lion roaming the Los Angeles environs. They talk about P22's history and recent demise, some news stories about the Los Angeles city council, Dungeons and Dragons as therapy and the saga of Burnt Toast, which was the name of a cat that, well, just may have killed an alligator. Listen up… That's it for the clips this week but now is the time to get yourself ready for our next week's show, Episode 339, because it is Tyson Saner's ONE HUNDREDTH SHOW! I'm not sure what he's got in store but man, am I glad we have him. Speaking honestly, if Tyson hadn't accepted the challenge to jump in hear – first as a host to relieve me for a couple and then to alternate weeks with me since the start of the COVID pandemic, you would not have a Succotash Show to listen to today. So be sure to grab next week's show from this feed and don't be shy about sending in some congratulations, either on our @SuccotashShow Twitter and Instagram accounts but directly to him here at tyson@SuccotashShow.com! See you week after next. And, in the meantime, if you get pulled over by a police officer and you don't think you've done anything wrong, just wait until he strolls up to the car, roll down the window and expect him to ask, “Have you heard anything good lately?” At that point, won't you please pass him the Succotash? — Marc Hershon

All right, all right, all right. Marc Hershon, your every-other-weekly host for Succotash is here with you, dear, sweet listener. This is Episode 289 of THE Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. (What's a “soundcast” you ask? It's just a proprietary way of saying “podcast” so that we can sue people for trying to use the term sometime down the road.) I have my first Succotash Chat of Two Thousand and Twenty Two coming up in just moment, with longtime friend of the show Dana Carvey coming up in just a moment. Before I go any further, and this is getting old having to do this every show, it seems, but another comic great got the light this past week or so. Louis Anderson joins fellow comedians Bob Saget and Norm McDonald in that big green room in the sky. A lot of the funny ones have been getting snapped up recently, which is a shame not only because of the families and friends they leave behind, but because it seems we need them more than ever down her. Thanks for all the laughs, Louie! RIP Back to business. In case you missed last week's installment, Epi288, entitled “Busy Showbiz Clips”, hosted by my comrade in soundcasting Tyson Saner, he was rockin' a trio of soundcast clips from the likes of Resting Bitch with Ali Macofsky, Hollywood Handbook, and Dead Eyes! Don't despair – you can still fill your ears with that treasure trove over at Spotify, Stitcher, Apple and Google Podcasts, Soundcloud, YouTube, Amazon Music, or our beloved homesite, SuccotashShow.com – where we feature links to all the shows we feature and as many of the host's socials as we can find. This episode, as the title implies, nay, as it clearly states, we're Catchin' Up with Dana Carvey. Dana has been kind enough to be on the show a bunch of times since we began back in 2011. In fact, he was my co-host of Episode number THREE. So we won't be covering things like his origins, or the Church Lady, or a lot of other past history stuff – you can find that in the Succotash archives. Instead, we mainly talk about the new comedy soundcast he's kicked off with fellow Saturday Night Live alumnus David Spade entitled Fly On The Wall, where they interview cast member past and present, former hosts, musical guests, and more. We venture into a few other areas as well, including a little hint of an upcoming narrative soundcast he's creating with his two sons, Dex and Tom Carvey. We've got a little taste of the premiere episode of Fly On The Wall, with Dana, David, and their first guest, Chris Rock, getting into relationships and fame… You can find Fly On The Wall all over the interwebs. They're currently #1 on Apple Podcasts and probably others. They've already hit more than 300,00 downloads a week. And, right after this message from our fake sponsor, Henderson's Pants, and their new Pedestrian Pants, I'll be speaking with Dana Carvey himself. Stick around… I always appreciate when Dana carves out a little time to visit with us. Don't miss checking out Fly On The Wall. And here are Dana's Twitter and Insta links. There are still no calls on the Succotash Show and Runaway Truck Status Hotline but if you WERE to call 1 (818) 921-7212, we would play your message on an upcoming episode of the show. And if you are a comedy soundcaster, you don't have to wait for Tyson or me to find your program. You can snip off a 3 to 5 minute chunk o' fun and upload it directly to us at http://hightail.com/u/Succotash. Who knew there were so many ways to get in on the Succotash fun factory?! I'm going to go before I overstay my welcome. Coming up in this same feed next week will be Tyson with the two hundred and ninetieth episode of this soundcast. If you hang around until after our announcer Bill Heywatt's closing announcements, I stuck on a couple of extra minutes of me chatting up Dana from the start of our interview. Normally we would have reserved that for subscribers to our Patreon account but I haven't actually gotten around to activating it yet…so knock yourself out. Until you hear me again, be good to yourself and others, remember to where a goddamn mask, get your stupid COVID shots for fuck's sake and, if anyone should happen to stope you in the aisle in the supermarket and ask if you're heard anything good lately, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon

Welcome back if you're a return listener to this soundcast. If this is your first time in, welcome as well to Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, where we offer you a weekly tasting platter of comedy soundcasts from around the internet for your ears. Bite-sized little clips that will, hopefully, tempt you to seek out the shows we're featuring in their entirety. I'm your host for Episode 274, Marc Hershon, but to keep up the frenetic pace of putting out a weekly show, I split the hosting duties by switching off weeks with Mr. Tyson Saner. And if you didn't catch last week's entry, Epi273, in which Tyson featured clips from Amazing Pop Culture Podcast, Life is Short with Justin Long, and WTF with Marc Maron. Don't despair, as you can still catch the episode on Apple and Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Audible, iHeart Radio, Soundcloud, and wherever fine soundcasts are streamed and/or downloaded. You can also grab it from our homesite, SuccotashShow.com, where we have stockpiled our past 10+ years of comedy soundcast clippery and also interviews we have done over the past decade. Just a quick reminder that Tyson and I are currently (and always have been) clipping and presenting this array of soundcast snacks out of the goodness of our hearts. We so far have failed to lure any sponsors to this show, other than our freeloading fake advertiser Henderson's Pants, and it actually costs money to put this sucker out every week. We're not complaining – we love doing this – but what would be so super nice of you would be if you could show your appreciation for our efforts by rating and reviewing Succotash Show wherever you happen to be getting it from. A quick five stars, a couple of lines about how enchanting the show is – you're in, you're out, no one gets hurt. Thanks in advance – we really do appreciate your listenership and we hate to beg, but hey… I've got a full rack of clips to share with you this week, from comedy soundcasts For What It's Worth, Storytime with Seth Rogen, How to Survive! with Danielle & Kristine, and Movies to Be Buried With with Brett Goldstein. In addition, this episode is brought to you by Henderson's Pants new Beavertail Pants! CLIPS What Are You Watching?I'm going to kick things off with a special bonus clip! What makes it special? Well, I'm in it. That's right. It's me being featured as a guest on another soundcast. Hosted by past Succotash guest and friend of the show Chris Mancini, What Are You Watching? is Chris and a guest talking about what they're watching, mostly on TV but sometimes movies, too. So we've had Chris on, we've featured his soundcast, so all it took was a little begging and pleading to be invited to be the guest for his recent Episode 50. It was a nice change of pace to be the interviewee, and we had a great time talking about a bunch of shows. The clip is from our discussion of the Hulu/FX streaming show Y: The Last Man. Movies to be Buried With with Brett GoldsteinIf you're a fan of Ted Lasso, the big breakout hit on Apple TV last year starring Jason Sudekis – as I am, regardless of the pounding it's been taking from people this season – then you probably also love the character of Roy Kent. Portrayed by Brett Goldstein, Roy's a foul-mouthed contentious veteran footballer who becomes a foul-mouthed, slightly less contentious coach in Season 2. Brett started out as a staff writer on the show who lobbied Sudekis and the producers to let him play Roy and wouldn't you know? The guy's perfect. What I didn't know of, I'm ashamed to say, is that Brett is also a comedian and, what's more, has been hosting more than 160 of episodes of his own comedy soundcast called Movies To Be Buried With, with Brett Goldstein. He brings in a guest, explains that they've been killed in some manner, but the good news is that they go onto an afterlife where they get to explain their life through their favorite movies. Episode 121 featured guest Patton Oswalt and, as you can imagine, hilarity ensued. We have an ear peek for you… How To Survive! with Danielle & KristineNext up is a clip from the debut episode of a brand new comedy soundcast: How To Survive! with Danielle & Kristine. Every episode features hosts Danielle Koenig & Kristine Kimmel doing their best to help you figure out how to “survive the things that could kill you and the stuff that just makes you wish you were dead.” In their kickoff installment, it's how to both survive a wildfire and also, with the help of their comedic actress friend and guest, Alex Alexander, how to survive being fired. Our clip is from the first part, and jumps into what you should do if you're at home and can see a fire coming… Storytime with Seth RogenWe've clipped another soundcast that just kicked off  in recent weeks: Storytime with Seth Rogen. Seth has a very funny and creative mind, and this is a pretty inventive show, with guests popping in an out as he unfolds someone's story that intersects with other people and becomes their story along the way. In his first episode, the story belongs to Quinta Brunson, a writer, producer, comedian, and actress. You may know her from her self-produced Instagram series Girl Who Has Never Been on a Nice Date. But before she got into showbiz, she was a Jehovah's Witness, living a pretty buttoned up lifestyle. Until she was on a date in Phildelphia and happened to meet Paul Rudd, yes, that Paul Rudd, at the movie theater she was in. The impact of that encounter changed the course of her life. Our clip is from Seth's chat with Paul Rudd, who doesn't recall his encounter with Quinta, but does explain why he's so damn nice to people. For What It's WorthMurray Valeriano is a comedian and longtime soundcaster – you maybe heard his show Road Stories, where he chatted with fellow comics about mostly hell gigs – and we've met repeatedly during the five-year-run of the Los Angeles Podcast Festival. He has a new-ish soundcast up and running, which I reviewed last week for This Week in Comedy Podcasts for Vulture.com called For What It's Worth and, as Murray calls it, “the only music and comedy game show … that matters!” It's a fast-paced game show with a lot of opportunities for the comedian contestant to bust each other's (and Muraay's) chops while trying desperately to correctly answer music trivia questions. This clip is from a recent episode featuring Jimmy Pardo, Gary Brightwell, and Geoff Tate, and the opening round, called “The Rock Wall”. That's what you're going to hear, and a few other little odds and ends, on Succotash Epi274. Here's hoping you enjoy our clip harvest for this week, and that you are inspired to go listen to one or all of the shows we're featuring this week. If you're having trouble remembering the show titles or where you can find them, I invite you to slide over to our blog page for this episode at our homesite, SuccotashShow.com, where you'll find lovely little clickable titles for the show AND clickable Twitter or Instagram links for the folks involved in the soundcasts. Tyson Saner will be right in this same feed next week with Episode 275 which will likely have a new crop o' clips for you. In the meantime, try to treat everyone you meet decently, wear a mask if you're supposed to, vax if you haven't, and if anyone asks if you've heard anything good lately, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon

I'm calling it “Revisitin' 3 Old Faves Plus 2 New Faves, And A Sad Goodbye, Too.” Before we jump into the deep end, I want to remind you that, if you missed last week's Epi261 “Clippin' My Way Back To You”, with my illustrious co-host-at-a-distance Tyson Saner, in which he featured clips from Girls 1 Kitchen, Strange Times, and Round Springfield, you can still fill your ears with it up at Apple & Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, iHeart Radio, and pretty much everywhere else in the known soundcast universe. For this week's installment, I have a sack stuffed to the gills with not three, not four, but FIVE clips from – as the title intimates – 3 faves, which are namely Wheelbarrow Full Of Dicks, Story Worthy, and Monster Party. In addition, I have clips from two shows we've not featured before: 91 Donkey Lane, and Death is Hilarious. We're sponsored this time around by Henderson's Pants new Poncho Pantz, which would be welcome news for all of those folks suffering from unseasonal flooding going on around the world if these pants weren't fictional in nature. RIP MAT GEORGE Before we wade into this week's clippage, though, I wanted to take a few moments out to get to the “Sad Goodbye” part of this episode's title, and observe a sad milestone we passed this past week. Podcaster Mat George died this past Saturday morning in Los Angeles, the victim of a hit-and-run traffic accident. Mat was 26 years old, and the co-host of She Rates Dogs along with Michaela Okland. Known for his Twitter and Insta feeds under the handle @matchu-chutrain, the soundcast he did with Michaela brought the popular social media page SheRatesDogs to the soundcast world — and listeners' worst dating stories along with it. The milestone I mentioned is that fact that, in most of the accounts of Mat's death, he is being identified as a “podcaster”. Our podcast, or soundcast, medium has been around for almost 20 years now but it's only now being recognized as a profession and I think that, through his untimely passing, Mat is the first among us to have the status of “podcaster” dignified by the mainstream press. In honor of Mat George, we've got a short clip that includes his final sign-off from the last episode of She Rates Dogs to drop before his death. Gone too soon at the age of 26, rest in peace Mat George. He and Michaela's show is very entertaining, and I urge you to listen to She Rates Dogs from wherever you get your soundcasts. CLIPS WFODThe inspiration for playing the next clip came up on Twitter this past week, when I saw the the account for WFOD, or Wheelbarrow Full of Dicks, as it is actually called, had retweeted a tweet from Spreaker, which had asked them, “Has your podcast received any media coverage?” They answered, “We were featured on Succotash Show twice!” Which is true: First in Epi47 back in 2013, and again in Epi100 in 2014. (They were also mentioned in Epi141 for their wrong side of the argument position of Soundcast vs Podcast, when they said “soundcast” sounds “silly”.) Well, Mike and the gang, clearly your stance was wrong as the world has long since embraced “soundcast” BUT we're not sore winners at Succotash and we are pleased and proud have having run the soundcast gamut along with you lo these many years. So hoping that the third times the charm, here is a clip from the most recent episode of Wheelbarrow Full of Dicks, in which the crew reminisces back to the beginning of the pandemic and a little old felon named Joe Exotic. Story WorthySo one of the reasons I even saw the tweet from Wheelbarrow Full of Dicks was that it got re-tweeted by longtime soundcast friend Christine Blackburn. We have only ever crossed paths in real life at the old LA Podcast Festivals, but she's always been game to recommend soundcasts and help connect me to folks to interview for this show. And her show, the Story Worthy soundcast, is one of the longest running story-telling shows out there. And she's done a great job of gamifying the format over the years and in various kinds of judged settings, including Story Smash, which you can catch on YouTube. (See the blog entry for this episode at our homesite, SuccotashShow.com, for clickable links to the show I'm mentioning as well as the socials for the people themselves!) So, anyway, I figured it was high time to clip Christine's show. This snippet comes from recent Episode 684 featuring guest comedian and video director Gary Robinson. They're chatting about how some celebrities become so heavily identified for a defining role. Death Is HilariousNow I certainly don't mean this episode of Succotash to be a downer, what with the memorial notice about Mat George up top and all, but I had received a note this week from Rachel Diamond, a PR assistant for a soundcast called Death Is Hilarious, asking if I'd give it a listen and consider playing a clip. So I listened and I liked it and I clipped it and it's here. Hosted by Tawny Platis, a widowed comedian who lost her husband George just a couple of years ago, and helped by her friend Sam Peterson, she was determined to channel her grief in helping herself and others to heal, find relief, and the power to laugh again in the face of death and other trauma. This clip is from a recent installment where Tawny chats with alt New York comic Ben Wasserman about dealing with the passing of his father. Monster PartyGetting back into the swing with one more old fave this show, it's a clip from a recent episode of Monster Party. Hosted by a quartet of my old chums Matt Weinhold, Shawn Sheridan, Larry Strothe, and James Gonis, they usually sit around or, more recently because of the pandemic, Zoom around with a guest and go to town on horror, suspense, and sci-fi movies. They recently had a phenomenal “get” of a guest, actor Steve Railsback, and they talk extensively with Steve about his long career in movies and TV. A film that he became well-known for was 1980's The Stuntman, in which he starred with Peter O'Toole, and directed by Richard Rush. In this clip, the guys talk to Steve about that project and he gets into what it was like working with the likes of O'Toole and director Rush. (NOTE: If you download THIS week's episode, you'll hear yours truly – that's right: Me, – guesting on the show for a couple of hours or so yakking about movies in the theme of “Summer Scare-cation”. A ton of fun and you can grab it everywhere online.) 91 Donkey LaneRounding our our true handful of clips – that's 5: One for each finger – is 91 Donkey Lane, a very funny sketch-ish soundcast that feastures the misadventures of Robert Bacon and Nate Lopez who become roommates in an apartment at 91 Donkey Lane, a place described as “magical but very dangerous.” This clip is from the episode entitled “Total Recall”, and featured Robert trying desperately to get away on a “mind vacation” so he can relax. This requires the same technology seen in the movie Total Recall, and the doctor helping him sounds suspiciously like Arnold Schwarzenegger. And the first place he travels to is the version of Mars featured in the Total Recall movie. Too many clips for us to get to the Tweetsack this week — sorry Tweety — but we'll hit it next time. Remember to listen for me on this week's edition of the Monster Party soundcast. If you have seen any of friend-of-Succotash comedian Dana Carvey's Instagram postings lately, @TheDanaCarvey, and see him using these kind of flat photo puppets of Joe Biden, well, that's MY handiwork! For reals. We used to make these bizarre puppet videos years ago and he's started to do some new ones as part of his soundcast Fantastic! With Dana Carvey. So he called me up and asked me to make up some new ones. Up next week in this very same feed will be Tyson Saner with another sweaty clutch of soundcast clips for you so be sure to come back around. And don't be afraid to rate and review our show up on Apple or Google Podcasts, especially with some tasty 5-star reviews. Stay safe as the summer wears on and the Delta COVID variant spreads out. Mask up inside when you can, wash your hands in a thorough manner – you know that drill – and and if anyone should happen to tap you on the shoulder to ask if you've heard anything good lately, please be sure to pass the Succotash. — Marc Hershon

Hey, you. Glad to have you here for Epi258 of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, where I, Marc Hershon, am Mixin' Up a Mess O' Soundcasts this week. Details on what shows I'm featuring in a sec but first, did you miss last week's Epi 257, hosted by my alternating co-host Mr. Tyson Saner? He featured a triumphant trio of soundcast clips from Blake's Takes for God's Sakes, Good Game Nice Try, and Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. You can always grab that or any other previous installment of Succotash right on our homsight, at SuccotashShow.com. Or pretty much anywhere else you normally gobble up your soundcast treats: Apple and Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, iHeart Radio…search for Succotash Show on the web and we're sure to pop up. As for what I've got in store for you this time around, I'm going a little differently that usual. I normally harvest four clips from various comedy soundcasts but I've got kind of a mixed bag special for you. A combo platter, if you will. There are some brand new shows and a smattering of things from a few years ago. We'll be hearing from Patton Oswalt and Meredith Salanger in the new Did You Get My Text?; a couple of comedy sketch commercials from Left-Handed Radio; May Contain Nuts, a BBC soundcast from Scotland; Stay F. Homekins, the pandemic-inspired show from Paul F. Tompkins, and a mini-clip from The Midnight Miracle by Dave Chapelle and assorted co-hosts. In addition, I'll be featuring a clip from the Jock Doc Podcast. Yes, I featured the JDP on my last installment, it's true. BUT this clip features yours truly appearing as a character on the most recent installment of Dr. London Smith's show and, gosh, I'd hate for you to miss a minute of me! Plus this episode is sponsored by Henderson's Pants new Down Under Pants, mate! Here's something I forget to mention a lot of these shows but if you're like to read what I have to say about comedy soundcasts and not just listen to me blather on, I am part of the squad that writes the this Week in Comedy Podcasts column over on Vulture.com each week. We each pick one and write about 200 words about it. That column drops every Thursday, usually, and this week I'm reviewing…well, that would be telling. Suffice it to say that I will be reviewing one of the shows that I am clipping in this very episode. In fact, it might be this first clip… CLIPS Did You Get My Text?…Which is from the first episode of a brand new soundcast. It's called Did You Get My Text? And features comedian Patton Oswalt and his wife, Meredith Salenger, who – according to the show blurb – live in the same house yet text each other more than people who live across the country from one another. Here, they sit down and go through their texts together. Our clip is about a photo Patton texted to Meredith which you might have seen. It got quite a bit of attention. It's a woman being interviewed on the news from her home and in the background, displayed prominently on a bookshelf, is the kind of object you normally wouldn't be showing off. The Jock Doc PodcastNext up is a clip from The Jock Doc Podcast. And yes, yes I know I JUST featured a clip from Dr. London Smith and Cameron week before last because they uploaded it to us. But THIS clip is different. It's special. It's got ME in it! But not just me, I'm playing a zany character with a bad French accent. I play Guy Niçoise, a “reclaimed food chef”. Which means he makes meals out of garbage, basically. Bon apetít! Left-Handed RadioA podcast crew that has been around even longer than your Succotash family is Left-Handed Radio. Started in 2010, a year before us, it is hosted by Anna Rubanova and Adam Bozarth. It's largely a collection of original comedy sketches and parodies, mostly of public radio shows and ads. Their publicist, Heidi Vanderlee, from Positive Jam PR, sent me a couple of their spots for Father's Day, which was just this past Sunday. Let's listen together… May Contain NutsFor this next clip we leave the States and head for Scotland. BBC Scotland, to be exact, and a TV show AND a soundcast called May Contain Nuts, to be exacter. This clip is from episode 6 of Series 3 that dropped a year ago this month. The show touts itself as being about “Four hosts, one subject, no script,” and features hosts Stuart Condy, Russell Miller, Chris Miller and Craig-James Moncur. This clip is from a show all about Stonehenge and these guys are pretty funny. I think. Their Scottish burrs are so thick I had to listen a couple or twelve times to get it all, so don't be afraid to hit that rewind button. Stay F. HomekinsWhat did soundcasting mainstay Paul f. Tompkins and his wife Janie Haddad Tompkins do during the COVID-19 lockdown? They produced a soundcast of course, called Stay F. Tompkins. And it's still going, although I'm not sure how much longer they'll be keeping it going – Paul's got to get back to visiting all those other soundcasts! In this clip, Paul starts to get into having been a guest on Larry King's show… The Midnight MiracleThe Midnight Miracle is a soundcast that came out of a summer camp that Dave Chapelle put on in Ohio. The show description calls it “a thought-provoking podcast that uniquely blends the salon and variety show traditions while providing a glimpse into the inner lives of hosts Talib Kweli, yasiin bey, Dave Chappelle, and friends.” It's available under Apple Podcasts' new paid subscription model which can frankly go fuck itself. So I couldn't get an ordinary clip from the show BUT they released this two minute blurp – that's a cross between a blip and a blurb – so here you go… You had enough? Me, too. Be sure to pop in next week for Tyson Saner and Episode 259's rasher of soundcast clippage. Remember to give a listen to me guesting on the Jock Doc Podcast. If you want advanced voting rights, I guess you'll have to find someplace more forward-thinking that the USA. And if anyone asks if you've heard anything good lately, feel free to pass that ol' devil Succotash! — Marc Hershon

Saluton and it is NOT your regular host, Tyson Saner, this time around but former host, executive producer, and folding plastic room divider Marc Hershon. That’s right. I will be filling in for Tyson for this, Epi186, and another one or two episodes as well because Mr. and Mrs. Saner are welcoming their first baby into the world! Congratulations from all of us here at Succotash to all of you Saners – old and new – up in Humboldt County in Northern California. Tyson needed to take some time away from his duties as host of this show and I volunteered to step in for a bit so here I am. If you would like to pass along your congratulations to Tyson, feel free to ping him on Twitter @RevT23 or you can email him at Tyson@SuccotashShow.com. You can even call our tollful Skype line and leave him a cheery message at (818) 921-7212. If you don’t recognize my voice, that’s okay. I started Succotash back in 2012 and, after seven years of hosting the show, stepped away from the microphone almost exactly a year ago to make way for Tyson to take the reins. I’ve been in the background as the executive producer – posting the shows online and handling all of our social media stuff. And I’ve been busy trying to get a couple of new projects off the ground, too. If you’re new to Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, this is where we feature snippets from other peoples’ comedy soundcasts in order to let you know what’s going on out there in the incredibly crowded field of soundcasting. We’re like a Whitman’s Sampler of rich, chewy soundcast goodness. This episode we’ll be featuring clips from Armchair Expert, Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend, Dave Hill’s Podcast Incident, The Smartest Man in The World, What A Time To Be Alive, and The Young & The Weary. BTW, Succotash is brought to you by Henderson’s Pants new Toddler Trousers AND Trumpoetry.com. One segment we WON’T be featuring this episode — and may not be for the foreseeable future — is our long-running Burst O’ Durst with political comedian and social commentator Will Durst. Will’s been doing this segments for YEARS, literally out of the goodness of his heart, and he’s taking a much-needed hiatus. And he’s not sure if it’s worth coming back. Why, you ask? We can’t afford to pay him for his excellent commentaries because we don’t have paying sponsors. We are totally listener-supported but no one clicks on our Donate button at SuccotashShow.com, or clicks on the Amazon banner at the top of that same page, or buys any of our merch. So we’d love to keep bringing you Will’s amazing take on the political and social landscape but the coffers are empty. If you’d like to hear more Durst, let us know at durst@succotashshow.com. And if or until he rejoins us on Succotash, you can always check him out at HIS website, at WillDurst.com. Enough of that. Let’s get into the clippage, shall we? Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend One of the other things I do besides executive produce Succotash is provide weekly reviews to Vulture.com’s This Week In Comedy Podcasts. That online column used to be on Splitsider but it was bought by Vulture and all us reviewers made the jump over there, too. Recently I’ve reviewed several episode of the relatively new Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend soundcast and it’s pretty damned entertaining. The set up is that Conan O'Brien are been hosting his TV talkshow for along time but never really has time to make friends will all of his many celebrity guests. This soundcast is meant to be the cure for that. Recently, though, Conan had an actual friend on the show, none other than Adam Sandler. They’ve known each other for over 30 years, were on Saturday Night Live together, and even live in the same neighborhood in Los Angeles. In our snippet, they talk about their approaches to dealing with audiences. Dave Hill’s Podcasting IncidentDave Hill is a quintuple threat — comedian, actor, writer, musician, and radio/soundcast host. He originally hails from Columbus, Ohio but is moored in New York these days, where he puts out his Dave Hill’s Podcasting Incident whenever he can. This past week he was out in my neck o’ the woods for the San Francisco Sketchfest, which I was also doing, but our paths did not cross. Nonetheless, we have a clip from his latest drop, Epi99, featuring another multi-hyphenate, Sarah Hartshorne, who is a writer/comedian/former America’s Top Model contestant. In this clip, she and Dave talk about her modeling in Germany and wearing a dirndl. (I mainly picked this clip so I could say, ‘dirndl’.) The Smartest Man in The WorldI figured it was time to revisit The Smartest Man in The World, the soundcast from past Succotash guest Greg Proops, best known, perhaps, from Whose Line Is It Anyway. He’s also a personal friend and improv cast member with yours truly, and I think he’s one of the fastest, funniest, people around. In this clip, Greg and his wife, Jennifer, soundcast from the Fortress of Proopitude and, in our sniplette, they get into some old Hollywood lore and hijinks. Armchair ExpertA show that popped into Soundcastland this past year or so is Armchair Expert, hosted by actor Dax Shepard. Although his interviewing style is a little scattershot, I enjoy the loose informality he has with his guests, most of which he knows from his rambling around Los Angeles for a number of years. Just recently he hosted Sarah Silverman for a lengthy and revealing chat. Another thing I like about Dax is that he doesn’t mind venturing into areas that other hosts might feel uncomfortable about – as in the segment we're featuring, where he talks to Sarah about his reaction to her sexuality. What A Time To Be AliveIt is so hard to keep up with the avalanche of soundcasts, comedy and otherwise. Even as someone whose job is reviewing the damn things, I am constantly finding not just new shows, but shows that have been on for a while that completely slipped beneath my radar. One of those is What A Time To Be Alive. It features three hosts — Eli Yudin, Kath Barbadoro, and Patrick Monohan — and, as they say on their Patreon site, it’s “the only podcast that counts down all the things each week that make you say the title of the podcast.” In our clip, the trio get giddy over the topic of nunchucks and what a ridiculous weapon it (they?) makes in the wrong hands…or even the right ones. The Young & The WearyOur final entry this episode is from a new soundcast — just three or four installments in — and it’s called The Young & The Weary. Great title. And apropos. The "Young" is 32-year-old Jeremy Pinsly, a comedian raised in Nashville, now based in New York. The "Weary" is 88-year-old Dev Rogers, a former occupational therapist, an author, and a budding comedic actor from Buffalo, New York — she’ll be appearing in Comedy Central's Broad City this year. As these two have gotten to know each other during the first few episodes, they’ve kind of revealed a lot. Like how they each lost their virginity. Our clip is from the third episode, “Bad Language”, and they chat about the use of dirty words in comedy. Whew! I forgot how labor intensive Succotash can be to pull together. Maybe I’ll think of giving Tyson a raise. Especially now that he has another pair of ears to play soundcasts into. Of course, to do that, we’d need some money coming in. Remember? Donate button, Amazon banner, merch from the Succotashery? All available at our homesite – http://SuccotashShow.com  And if you can’t afford to give up the loot then how about rate and review Succotash Show up on our listing on iTunes? Doesn’t cost you anything than your pride and vanity. It has been a pleasure spending this time with you, filling in for our hiatusing Tyson Saner. I may be back for another one or two of these but fear not – Mr. Saner will be back in the Big Chair before you know it! A couple of reminders before I skedaddle. If YOU’RE a comedy soundcaster and would like to hear a clip of your show on our show, stay tuned for the closing credits where our esteemed announcer, Bill Heywatt, will give you details on how to upload those clips directly to us. And the other thing I want to urge you to do — whether it’s to your family, loved ones, friends, or even enemies — is to please pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon

Saluton, Succotash the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast listeners! It is in fact I, Tyson Saner, your humble host for the duration of this Chats edition of Succotash. My guest is podcaster (or soundcaster, rather…), singer, and actor Korey Epps.  Korey was the host of The Evil Teddy Bear Podcast for many years and over a hundred episodes. I was even a guest on his show in Epi67, entitled "Fights Like Tyson", back in 2013. (Click the link in this epi's blog entry on on our http://SuccotashShow.com homesite if you want to hear what I sounded like as a Boy Podcaster…)  The ETBP went defunct last year but recently Korey has come back on the soundcasting scene with the appropriately titled The Korey Epps Show. We'll be discussing that and other things so stay tuned, won't you? (Spoiler Alert: We experienced technical problems toward the end of our chat so had to cut our conversation a bit short more suddenly than intended…)  We've got our Burst o' Durst from political comedian and social commentator Will Durst in which In which our intrepid correspondent goes slightly mad and babbles on and on about the shady, depraved and transgressive administration.  I'd like to bring YOUR attention to a special event that Mr. Durst brought to MY attention. It's called "Comedy Celebration Day". They had their first one back in 1981 and this year - in 2018 for you time travelers - , it's being held on September 16th from Noon to 5pm. It features 40 comics, it's in San Fransisco in Golden Gate Park's newly named Robin Williams Meadow... and it's free to attend. They recently reached their gofundme goal but you can still see the promo for the event (and continue to donate!) at https://www.gofundme.com/comedy-day-2018   I've also got another selection of TrumPoetry from our almost-brand-new sponsor TrumPoetry.com... Thank you for spending your time with us for the hour or so which this installment ate up. I appreciate it a great deal. If you like what you're hearing I'd like to invite you to tell people about us here at Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. It doesn't cost you more than a moment or two of your time to leap over to our page in the Apple Podcasts section, search for Succotash Show, and give us a 5-star rating and a tasty little review. Sharing is, after all, caring...and it's the most direct way to honor our request that you please Pass The Succotash!   — Tyson Saner

It's not unusual to hear a guest drop by Succotash – podcasters, comedians, actors, etc. – but occasionally I invite some in to be my guest co-host for an episode. We each pull clips from shows we want to share, then we present them to you…and each other, sometimes for the first time. For Epi64, I invited Monica Hamburg, co-host of the Dazed & Convicted podcast from Vancouver, Canada, to spin clips with me. We had a great time! Such a great time that this edition of Succotash clocked in as the longest epi for us ever - a few ticks over TWO hours! That's a lot of clips, and yakkin' and laughs. You might want to listen to the first hour, take a break and digest, then come back for more. BUT if you think you can finish the whole thing in one sitting…you get it for FREE! Monica comes from an acting background and she's also a hotshot internet marketer-for-hire when she's not behind the D&C mics with her co-host, Bill Allman. We get into the history of the show, its previous incarnation as The S&M Rants, and the fact that Monica is definitely a true crime junkie. It's the main focus of her show AND it's the core of three of the five clips she's brought to share. WHAT'S HOT…WE'RE HOT! Here's a big thank you to all of those Succotashians who have been dowloading, raiting and reviewing The Comedy Podcast Podcast up on iTunes! This past week, Succotash got up into the What's Hot section, which really helps with our visibility. (So maybe this isn't the best time to crank out a 2-hour epic episode. On the other hand, maybe it's JUST the thing. I don't think anyone knows for sure…) THE 10 MOST ACTIVE IN THE STITCHER TOP 100 COMEDY PODCAST LIST Here’s the rundown on the latest Top 10 Most Active Shows On The Stitcher Top 100 Comedy Podcast List: 37. THE CLIPS Dazed & ConvictedOur guest co-host Monica Hamburg provides a clip from her recent Epi100. It's a sketch performed by co-host Bill Allman, Malox, and herself, revolving around a crime in Vancouver that revolved around - somehow - a bag of chips. Dining With Doug & Karen Normally the Karen in the title is comedian Karen Anderson. But she’s on “special assignment” as co-host Doug Benson puts it. So filling in is comedian Karen Kilgariff. Their guest comedian is Dave Anthony from Walking The Room and their guest chef is Shanna Lynn Milazzo from The Belmont in LA. This clip is less than 5 minutes but covers a range of topics – food, kids, pot, and a new sponsor whose viral video spurred Karen’s condition called Don’tClickOnIt-Itis. Distorted ViewA big favorite of our guest co-host, this show proclaims on its site: “The Distorted View Show is a daily comedy podcast hosted by Tim Henson. Every weekday he scours the darkest corners of the web in search of the truly bizarre. He then presents his finds to you, complete with unique (read: crass, vulgar, childish, and inappropriate) commentary. For a half hour each day, sit back and witness this audiophonic trainwreck. After listening, you'll feel much better about your own life.”  Enjoy! HobcastWe don't often play clips from the same show two weeks in a row. (Well, except for our running feature on Boganwood…) But last week, Hob The Troll (Steve Doccerson) sent us the wrong clip, which we then incorrectly identified. So we agreed to play the intended clip, featuring guest King John (The Thrilling Adventure Hour's Mark Gagliardi). It's a podcast. He's a troll. What more do you need to know? The Bi-Quarterly Women’s ClubThe hosts (and their tech guy) are four of the ugliest women I've seen, but that could be because they're dudes: Chris Wilding, Slako, Dylan, and Max. In this clip, they’re at the court, at the preliminary inquiry of “alleged” Canadian serial killer Luka Magnotta. Luka Magnotta fainted during the hearing. So when the trial paused for a bit, the BQWB used the break to interview people supporting not the victim, but the killer.  Kickin’ It Mary Lynn StyleHosted by comedian and actress Mary Lynn Rajskub who you should recognize from TV's 24 and also The Larry Sanders Show, has her own p'cast over on Nerdist. (Lucky Nerdist!) One guest a recent episode was actress Casey Wilson, who has a new movie coming out and who was recently on the ABC series Happy Endings. They get deep-ish into the subject of auditioning.  The New York City Crime Report with Pat DixonHosted by comedian Pat Dixon, along with producer Marcus Parks and guest Dave Rosinsky. As their website proclaims: “Crime might be down, but it sure isn’t out. This is the only podcast that gives you all the information on New York City crime, court and killers at large.” Lost Moon RadioLost Moon Radio features the sketch comedy group of the same name, out of Los Angeles. I played a clip from one of their first episodes and, I’m happy to report, they’re still funny! In this clip from Episode 8 entitled Hauntings, we catch up with a group of young campers on their closing night bonfire. Sarcastic Voyage The Sarcastic Voyage podcast is a biweekly endeavor by Ron “AAlgar” Watt, with Matt Rowbotham and a supporting cast of voice actors and contributing writers. It is largely comprised of prepared material (sketch comedy and comedic serials), which are linked by short “host segments." The clip Monica shares with us features the conversation between a couple of servants working the never-ending party at Jabba The Hutt's hideout. RISK!Kevin Allison hosts the weekly storytelling podcast “where people tell true stories they never thought they’d dare to share in public." Guest Julie Threlkeld tells the story of “Mom and the Bomb”. She begins by talking about the difficulty of coming as a teen as a lesbian to her mom, who didn’t approve (“You’re having sex with a woman?!”) Later on that same life, things got weird. We're back. Vacation break over, me, Joe Paulino and the rest of the Succotash crew are together again and rocking Studio P in Sausalito. Episode 7 features no guests or interviews but we DO have clips from eight comedy podcasts, two Bursts O' Durst with comedian Will Durst and Where's The Coffee?, an original tune by our musical director Scott Carvey. (Listen to this episode for information about when you can expect to hear — if our plans hold up — both Scott and his brother Dana (do the math) live in the studio in an episode in the near future!) Here's what we've got in store this time... • Burst O' Durst (x2)A double dose of political comedian Will Durst in this edition. Catch Will at his home site at http://WillDurst.com or on Twitter as @WillDurst.  • The Apple SistersOne of podcasting's fastest rising shows, Kimmy Gatewood, Rebekka Johnson and  Sarah Lowe are The Apple Sisters, bring their 1940's flare with a 21st century sensibility to the webwaves. Guest Jason Ritter joins them in this clip. Get more at http://TheAppleSister.com or on iTunes.  • Chris Porter's General StoreComedian Chris Porter, a finalist on Season 4 of Last Comic Standing, rants a bit about obesity and wonders why people in Texas can even be fat. Load up on him at http://pantswise.com/generalstore or on iTunes.  • Nobody Likes OnionsSo says host and comic Patrick Melton, who's joined by comedian Ryan Stout, who leads the discussion off into what a bad gig can be like...and can you recover? If you like what you hear, go get yourself a full helping at http://nobodylikesonions.com or iTunes.  • Comedy BuffetWhat I can tell you is that the Comedy Buffet guys have a couple of dudes (Jason and Jesse) from Van Full Of Candy on their show where, in this clip, they joke about oversized food and diabetes. (What I can also tell you is that I'm a big, giant goober. In the podcast, I dress the CB boys down for not ID'ing themselves. Next time I'll read the email someone sends in all the way through. Michael Powell hosts the show, joined this time around by usual suspects Matt Bernier and Don Buley.) Have yourself a good ol' time over at http://TheComedyBuffet.com or iTunes.  • Judge John HodgmanIf you don't know who John Hodgman is, you've no one to blame but yourself. He's the PC in the PC and Mac commercials. He's a correspondent on The Daily Show. And, well, he's John Hodgman! On his podcast, which is patterned much like the old People's Court on TV, he hears "legal" cases of strange and dubious merit and then rules on them. In our clip, he sounds off after hearing some letters by listeners with questions. Hear the full stories at http://maximumfun.org or iTunes.  • Somebody And MeA couple of guys from Chicago, Patrick O'Rourke and Rob Gregory, welcome guests Carley Moseley and Andy Kushnir from the sketch group Jeremy. In this segment, they try to get a fix on exactly what a hipster is all about. Hear more at http://somebodyandme.com or iTunes.  • The UnoffendablesComic Tom Rhodes is joined here by Lou Angelwolf and Dana Gibson along with guest John Fugelsang. In the clip we have, John talks about his religion-flavored upbringing and how it helpd to shape his early comedy. There's more in store at http://trr.libsyn.com or iTunes.  • What Duvet SaidJason Duplissea and Rob Celli sliced out their own clip and sent it along, entitling it "The Breast of Duvet". In the segment, they examine a news story in which a women fended off police with gouts of her own breast milk. Tasty stuff. Want more? http://whatduvetsaid.blogspot.com or iTunes. (And if you want even more WDS, I'm hoping to have Rob Celli in the studio with me for Epi8 as my special guest co-host!) As you can see, Succotash Epi7 is stuffed with delicious podcastery. In addition, our booth announcer Bill Heywatt has a bit of a meltdown in studio (we're also featuring his unique spin on the classic drink, the Snowshoe), and we have a new commercial from our favorite sponsor, Henderson's Pants. If you'd like, follow us on twitter @SuccotashShow, Like us at our Facebook page (just search for "Succotash Show" on fb), or drop us a line at marc@SuccotashShow.com! After teasing you for weeks and posting a couple of test shows to get an idea what Succotash might sound like, the premiere of the Comedy Podcast Podcast is here! We're giving you a myriad of ways to listen: the title of this blog piece will take you to the Internet Archive site where the show is currently housed. At the bottom of this blog piece is an embedded player. AND we should be available for download from iTunes very soon! (We're trying to set that up AS this is being typed into the blog...watch this space for confirmation that iTunes has given us the thumbs up!) As it turns out, screening a bunch of comedy podcasts every week to find 3 to 5 minutes of funny stuff from each one is pretty time-consuming. And then having to engineer the variety of sound qualities possessed by the lot of them takes even more time. So, although we were hoping to be able to bring Succotash to you once a week, at the beginning it may run a little bit slower than that — even as much as a month. At least for the "Big Show", with 8 to 10 different show snippets. working more on the fly, with a laptop and a microphone, we may be able to bring you some shorter tastes. And maybe even some guest interviews! (We already have interest from friends like Rick Overton, Mark Pitta and Dana Carvey to jump in here and have some fun.) On this show, the Succotash premiere, you'll be hearing from: • The Adam Carolla Show with guest Greg Fitzsimmons • Comedy Death Ray Radio with Scott Aukerman and guest Patton Oswalt • After Hours with Mark Pitta and guest Carol Doda • Mike And Tom Eat Snacks with Michael Ian Black and Tom Cavanagh • Pop My Culture with Cole Stratton and Vanessa Ragland • The Smartest Man in the World with Greg Proops • Walking The Room with Greg Berendt and Dave Anthony • WTF with Marc Maron Hosted by Marc Hershon, Succotash is produced and engineered by Joe Paulino, with original Succotash theme by Scott Carvey. If you want to contact us, you can email us at marc@SuccotashShow.com. Please "Like" us on our Succotash Show page on Facebook and follow our tweets @SuccotashShow. Feel free to leave comments in the area provided for it immediately following this blog post. Pass the Succotash! Marc Hershon Ooops! Forgot to include one last mention - a snippet that went astray but is definitely in the show! Greetings to comedy aficionados and, especially, comedy podcast aficionados! As the creator and host of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast, I wanted to let early birds who dig this stuff in on the beginning birth pangs of my new show. My goal is to create an audio offering akin to TV's version of "The Soup" (or Chris Hardwick's "Web Soup" on G4) but one dedicated to just comedy podcasts (or podcasts featuring comedians - there is a difference...)Here's my "dress rehearsal" — a version of the show that I slapped together myself on my Mac, using a primitive version of Audacity, an old Logitech USB microphone and one sleepless night. I'm using this to pull the pieces of the puzzle together. And it's working! (I THINK to get it at this point, you need to click on the title of THIS blog item to get to the download. Let me know if that doesn't work and I'll try something else.)So far I have blessings from a bunch of podcasting comedian friends, including Greg Proops, Dean Haglund, David Feldman, Cole Stratton, Kelly Carlin, and Kevin Pollak, with more jumping onboard daily that are happy to allow me to use snippets and highlights from their most current offerings. (The hope is that listeners, both new and old, can use Succotash to learn what's going on in the world of comedy podcasts. Then they can grab a taste and go get themselves a full and tasty download at their leisure.)I've got friend Scott Carvey composing an original theme for the show — the tune you'll hear on the test episode is just a placehold, appropriately entitled "Succotash" by the Bel-Airs. And I'm meeting with another buddy this week to talk about him producing the episodes in his state-of-the-art studio. And YOU can serve a vital part of the Succotash process — should you choose to accept the responsibility — by letting me know what I'm missing, forgetting or not including. There are a lot of comedy podcasts out there and I can't listen to them all. So drop me a line at marc@SuccotashShow.com to let me know where to go.Finally, although I'm hosting this puppy, my real hope is to feature some guest comedians along the way. Both the ones who are doing such a great job posting and hosting their own podcasts but also those comics who are fun to have drop in and share a few minutes talking about comedy, their careers, and their take on state of comedy today. That's about it. Love to have you download and listen to this test episode of Succotash, although I'll beg you to please remember that this is nothing more than a crude rendition, a run through, a dress rehearsal of what I'm hoping the final product will sound like. Your comments and criticisms are welcome, with in comment form on this blog or by email. You can also visit and like the Succotash Show page on Facebook and follow us @SuccotashShow on Twitter!Cheers,Marc Hershon
