Listeners of Podcasting 101 that love the show mention:In this episode, former BBC host Sam Walker joins me to discuss her career in podcasting. From creating a small passion project podcast called Desert Diaries when she moved from the UK to Arizona to finding herself on the other end of a shotgun...microphone with a sometimes covert killer who rescues kidnapped children on her new disruptive (with her audience) podcast, American Vigilante!
In this episode, The Captain from True Crime Garage joins Pod 101 to chat about creating a "True Crime" podcast before it was even a genre... though creating a podcast in a garage had already been old hat. The Captain, who admits to only being loved by 30% of the listeners tells us how he and The Colonel quickly and surprisingly built a very large following, how they're keeping things indie and the difference between who they are on mic and off.
Brett had been podcasting for 160+ episodes and he knew something had to change. Specific guests weren't landing with his audience. He was feeling the burnout. He then decided to PIVOT with his podcast and now he's interviewing celebrities and reaching over 8,000 listeners an episode. He's releasing 3 to 5 episodes a week and not only is he enjoying himself but he's hoping to leave a legacy for his son through podcasting. Also we discuss what is a good "starter" microphone and whether Joe Rogan is a famous podcaster or a podcaster who is famous!
There has been an explosion recently for Audio Dramas. Podcast Radio Plays... Narrated stories with music and sound effects, not always "Dramatic" but for lack of a better term, let's just say Audio Drama!? Today, Joel Mengel joins me from his Edge of the World Broadcast, podcast to discuss his ideas, process, struggles and success of creating an independently produced podcast. I also discuss Spotify and Stitcher going exclusive with Marvel and DC. I have a huge respect and love for this content no matter the level of production. After the interview I recommend a podcast I was recently turned on to, America's Forgotten Heroes. If you like stories of heroism, and patriotism, mixed with narration through some very crafty wordsmithing... then this podcast is for you! I'm not sure my words can adequately describe this podcast superstar. He's a Producer, an Influencer, a Speaker. A Rockstar and living legend! Ant McGinley and I met 2 years ago during Podcast Movement in Philly during a Stitcher party and immediately hit it off. He's filled with a million ideas and has the energy to match. Two years ago I saw him show a whole room of podcasters how to create a podcast episode from nothing to having it published in 30 minutes. Since then he has gone on to start his own Podcast Convention in the UK called Pods Up North. He's an inspiration to podcasters and he's come on the show to share his story.
The captain of Streamlining, king of networking, and guerrilla marketing genius, Harry Duran is interviewed on this episode of Podcasting 101. We discuss his early days as a podcaster, learning how to promote not only his show but himself. How he built connections in the industry. This is an excellent, entertaining conversation and I really hope that you subscribe to the PBR podcast!

In this episode, Chris Holifield, from I Am Salt Lake joins me to discuss everything from building a podcast, to finding a listenership, to making money through various ways of trial and error. It doesn't matter how long you've been podcasting, you'll always identify with the struggles of an indie podcaster and you'll also learn something new every episode.
Emily Prokop, of the Story Behind Podcast, sits down to discuss the Crazy Random Happenstance from going from Podcaster to Indie Book Author.
Jacquelyn Landgraf, creator and narrator of, It Makes a Sound joins me on the show today to discuss writing, recording, producing, marketing an Audio Drama. She takes us behind the scenes to help us understand how her show came together, and how much work goes into an audio drama.
Ant McGinley, Podcast Movement Superstar, Producer or A.K.A. "That Other Guy" from "The Left Side: The Funny Football Show", "Mondeo Law", "Mick's Martial Arts", and the reality TV pop up "Inner Circle:The Circle Podcast" joins me to discuss his life in Radio and beyond. This man is a podcast legend in the making. I met him at Podcast Movement. What was a random happen stance running into at one of the many nightly meet and greets turned into what I hope to be a continuing friendship between podcasters. I attended Ant and Aimee Joshua, of the "Chasing Dreams" podcast session during Podcast Movement and in their session it was how you can go from no idea to publishing a podcast episode in under 30 minutes. It was incredible. So as you can imagine, we talk about this quite a bit. You must listen! Please enjoy this episode! You can follow Ant on Twitter @antmanlovesyou and on Instagram @AntMcGinley. In this episode, I talk with Rachael and Kevin Schwaller of the We Look Sh*t Up Podcast. Only having started since February, we discuss the ins and outs of creating a podcast. The changes that are made when adapting from the original idea to something that is more manageable for the long term. Also, let's talk just how amazing Podcast Movement was! I'm sure you've heard a ton of podcasts cover this intensely. But a quick recap and some shout outs had to be done! Look for more new episode while we approach PODTOBERFEST!!!
Rob Greenlee, host of Spreaker Live and New Media Show as well as being Head of Partnerships over at Voxnest stops by to talk about what exactly Voxnest is and what the company can do for us podcasters! I know a lot of podcasters are interested in "monetization" and this might be an answer to your prayers. They have an interesting platform. It's built with the everyday podcaster in mind, and it doesn't sound like it's a difficult process as far as the "Ad Insertion" part goes. Rob shares with us his knowledge from both his years in radio and the decade plus he's also put into the world of podcasting. Lot's of valuable information here folks. Not to mention, he's just got a great voice! Make sure you're taking notes! Another great guest for Podcasting 101!
Welcome back to a brand new season of Podcasting 101! His advice, "if you're not on Spotify, you don't care about your podcast!" We also discuss the death of Soundcloud, the life expectancy of Anchor and at the time of this recording... putting google play (for podcasting) out to pasture. Thanks for listening! ...and to those that support the show over at Patreon.com/monkeypoostudios you rock as well! -AG
Dave Jackson returns to the podcast to discuss the different ways people include their personal lives in their podcast. We also chat having a healthy balance between podcasting and the rest of your life. Once Dave takes off... we bring in Elsie, who is coming down from the mountains and into civilization. Just ignore the dog in the back ground... for she's calling from the road and we are doing a live broadcast so all quiet like studio stuff is thrown out the window for this episode. Elsie talks a bit about the 2017 changes at Libsyn. She doesn't announce a Stat's app... but we threaten to spread the word about it anyway. We also talk about the Power of Podcasting and How it's changed each of our lives! Dan Evans, Cohost of the Deconstructing Dad podcast (yes... it's part of the Monkey Poo Studios family of podcasts) and Courtney Caulkins of the Quadcast Podcast join in on the discussion, while Neighbor Cole from the 7 Days a Geek podcast (yes... this one is part of Monkey Poo Studios too) moderates the chatroom. **This is the second hour of the LIVE celebration of podcasting we host each year in October known as Podtoberfest. While the episode may have been recorded previously, the information, topics and discussion is timely and shouldn't be missed**
This episode was recorded live during the annual Podcasting Celebration event known as Podtoberfest that I do every year. In this first hour, Jacquelyn Landgraf from "It Makes a Sound" joins us to discuss her new Audio Drama. She tells us how the project first came together and about all of the hard work that goes into producing an episode. During that conversation, friend of the show, and amazing podcaster, Dave Jackson of "The School of Podcasting" calls in to join the show as well. This is a fun and fantastic hour all about podcasting! Thanks so much for listening and for all of your continued support dear listener!
In this episode my fellow podcasting pal Matt G from Reasons Are Several stops by to talk all things podcasting. A couple of topics discussed? Transitioning from one cohost to another. Rebranding your show... or broadening it's appeal. Advice for first time Podcasters and Matt Shares a quick How Has Podcasting Changed His Life story. Honorable Mentions: Alex Inc. (A new sitcom where the plot is PODCASTING). Marc Maron's 4 seasons television show "MARON" and a funny "Your Podcasting Will Fail" clip is shared.
In this episode of Pod 101 I celebrate my 9 years of podcasting by taking a look back through out my Podcasting career. All the shows, events and things that I've learned. Don't worry...it's in broad strokes. Other wise it'd be more of Ken Burns Documentary!
In this episode, Roger Anderson from the Kitchen Counter podcast, shares some delicious audible delights about all things podcasting! A few things discussed: Podcasting is great for introverts. Tips for letting your podcast grow organically. and Advice for podcasters just starting out. All of this and so much more! Curious where the show has been? What was all that construction going on in the last episode? A little more is revealed. Make sure you're subscribed. Exciting things are happening!
Courtney Calkins, the man, the myth, the legend from the Quadcast Podcast joins me today for a discussion on being an authentic host. It's what attracts us as listeners, and it's what will attract listeners to you as a podcast host. Bring the energy! We also discuss methods to prevent "Pod Fading" and social media tactics in building your audience. I'll give you a hint, be social! Never stop learning or trying to master your craft. Courtney talks about bragging when he first started that he never edited his show. Over the course of producing his shows, he's taught himself how to create smooth transitions, and segment bumpers. He loves placing music beds through out the course of an episode. His show has become highly produced. I think it's an aural work of art. Podcasting is one of the few forms of entertainment where you can not only build relationships but form solid friendships! If you're producing your podcast, I'm sure you're hoping to be able to give something to the listener, but if you allow it, the listener will give something back. Podcasting can be a fun filled personal journey of discovery. It can be therapeutic. Be transparent and honest with your audience. You'll be a better host, and you'll have a better show because of it. Courtney is a self taught indie podcaster with the production value of an NPR show, but with the energy of an afternoon morning show! It's talk radio at it's finest. It's a podcast about the podcaster. I for one think it deserves a subscription on your playlist! iTunes:https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/quadcast-podcast/id942359443?mt=2 Also in this show, I begin production...errrrr...construction on the new Monkey Poo Studios project! More information to come in the coming weeks. Keep listening....and keep podcasting! -Angry Ginger
Aaron Mahnke from the world wide phenomenon podcast known as Lore is interviewed in this episode. Aaron takes us from what was a simple (almost deleted) mistake, to a podcast that is now an upcoming television show, with a full season coming to Amazon Prime. Lore is about to become a book series too. Listen to how one podcaster went from just wanting to tell stories....to living a dream! The man actually admits to having to sometimes pinch himself. I'll be honest, I was extremely honored to spend more than the 30 minutes we had booked talking to Aaron. He's kind, intelligent, and very generous. I hope that everyone who listens to this episode learns something and is inspired to keep podcasting, or to continue on. You can find Lore wherever you listen to podcasts. Find Aaron over at @amahnke and say hi! I also have a quick "How Has Podcasting Changed Your Life" story from Ran Levi. Another podcaster who went from podcasting, to becoming a respected person in his field. He's been on TV. He's written books. Podcasting has indeed changed his life for the better and I'm so happy he shared his story with us! You can find Ran on twitter at @RanLevi Would you like to help support this podcast? In this episode of Podcasting 101 I get a chance to meet face to face with a fantastic story teller, Paula Allen. This is something I hope to be doing more often with this show. Meeting podcasters, and talking all things podcasting in person. Paula has been podcasting for well over a year now, but only releasing episodes now for just over 6 months. Lot's of practicing. Lots and lots of tape! We discuss everything from her evolution of recording stories, to creating a podcast revolving around her passion for live music, and all the work that goes into traveling from venue to venue, to meet with live musical acts, to get true and honest stories for them. She is so committed to podcasting and the music scene she is actually building herself a mobile podcasting studio that she will take with her to music festival's all across Canada. This episode we have on the two awesome hosts of Coffee with Kanobi, a coffee house style chat about all things Star Wars. We discuss the importance of connecting with listeners via Social media, like Twitter, and how being real and genuine can bring in the audience. Their show has come a long way from their first attempt at recording. The first attempt taking an astounding 14 hours to record, with only 18 minutes of listenable material, to now being featured on StarWars.com A few things we learned from both Dan and Cory are that family and friendship come first, before the podcast, so they work together using clear communication, and balancing each other out, to make sure everything gets done. They advise this; you can't fail at something when you are doing it for fun, and you can find your own voice through practice on the mic. We also have a podcaster who shares his "How has podcasting change my life" story. He is the one and only, Kip Clark, host of the "Stride and Saunter" podcast, which can be found here:http://www.strideandsaunter.com/ Also weighing in on his side of the podcasting world, with another Podcast Review, is non other than our good buddy Andrew Johnstone, previously of the now defunct but still reputable Podcast Squared. Andrew joins us to give you, the listener, a review on the podcast "Cardboard!" hosted by Rich Sommer, a podcast all about board games. You can find Cardboard! here:http://cardboard.wolfpop.com/ If you would like to share with us how podcasting has changed your life or if you have suggestions for a guest, please send us an email! In this episode of Podcasting 101, we talk about indie music, the podcasting community and networking. Lots of hard work goes into podcasting, sit back and enjoy this indie rock, and might I say F-bomb fuled chat about podcasting! This episode is NSFW but filled with tons of passionate talk about podcasting. Thanks for listening!
in this episode of Podcasting 101, we sit down with Brian Ward and Dr. Andrea Letamendi, a Clinical Psychologist, Scientist, and Convention Speaker to discuss thier podcast "Arkham Sessions" This podcast is different from other "Batman" podcasts in that they break each episode of the series down by taking a look at it from a psychologists point of view. It's well researched, produced and there is more passion oozing from this podcast than something you'd find in a cheesey romance novel! They love batman and it makes for an excellent podcast because of this!
