Delighted to share my chat with the inspiring writer/producer Gabby Lugo. We met at a networking event for the Latinx community and were quickly magnetized to each other. We bonded over the various parallels in our path and I simply had to share her story with you. After finding major success as a line producer on projects like the original short for Damien Chazelle's film "Whiplash" and the anomaly indie hit that was the feature "Palm Springs", she was faced with making a decision that would have most creatives shaking in their boots: should she continue on the lucrative line producing path, or turn down her financial safety net and pursue her true passion for writing? In this episode, you'll get the real-real on how Gabby navigated the high stress and high stakes of a journey that begins with immigration from Nicaragua and arrives to present day with the recently-sold reboot of "16 Candles" alongside powerhouse latinas, showrunner Tanya Saracho and the one and only Selena Gomez. Spoiler Alert: Gabby's writing it.
Not everything has to be a franchise! This week, Maggie and V explore an essential classic, a fun sequel, and an awful remake through the absolute rollercoaster that is Dirty Dancing. They break down the beautiful and ridiculous costumes, the effective and terrible storylines, and of course the bangin’ soundtracks. Plus, Tanya Saracho excels with the phenomenal Starz series Vida, and Tina Fey continues to not evolve through Girls5eva.

Due to popular demand, she drops the Vida-popularized track "Electrico" September 29th. The song is one of the many tracks she created working closely with ‘Vida’ show creator Tanya Saracho, curating beats, sounds, and wording for specific scenes and characters. Another TV season is over. You might not have noticed its end, thanks to the way TV never goes away any more, but technically, the TV season wraps at the end of May. So it seemed like a good time to get some of the best TV showrunners together and ask them how they create great standout TV, when there's way too much of it. Salim Akil of Black Lightning (CW), Aline Brosh McKenna of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' (CW) and Tanya Saracho of Vida (Starz) join Todd for a lively discussion about this era in TV. Topics include producing good TV on a budget, telling stories about communities traditionally underrepresented in fiction, and finding a way to stand out amid all that clutter. If you're a TV fan, or just curious about what it means to work in television when there are nearly 500 scripted series, you'll love this discussion. Learn more about your ad choices. Ep. 07 - Tanya Saracho and the Realness by Pajaritos: A Chicago Latinx Theater Podcast
Tune in as we recap and discuss our first live show, Locatora Live: A Podcast Party and upcoming events. For the second half of this capítulo, visual artist and activist, Julio Salgado joins us to chat about his artwork, #PantallaInclusiva, Tanya Saracho's show "Vida", and dating for QPOC.
Tanya Saracho, creator of the new Starz series Vida, talks with Hilliard Guess about her journey from Chicago playwright to TV showrunner.
Soon after Tanya Saracho got the green light to write a pilot for her first TV series, she contracted a dangerous spinal infection that left her stuck in bed for months. But Saracho rallied and her show 'Vida' has just premiered on Starz. A former Chicago-based playwright, Saracho tells us about her tough first experiences as a TV writer and how she ended up running the first all Latinx writers room in cable.
Vida creator and executive producer Tanya Saracho has come a long way in a short time after first moving over to television and experiencing that initial disappointment. A celebrated Chicago playwright, Saracho began dabbling in TV on a lark, first on Devious Maids and then Looking and How to Get Away with Murder. Now she's graduated to becoming the showrunner on Starz's new contemporary drama VIDA. Tanya Saracho and VIDA stars Mishel Prada and Tanya Barerra join us on this edition of TURN IT ON, from Indiewire.com. (Music by HookSounds.)
Catching up with Colony creator Ryan Condal and co-showrunner Wes Tooke. Season 3 of Colony premieres on USA tomorrow night, May 2! Tanya Saracho, a playwright who writes for tv, has written on How To Get Away With Murder, Looking, and Girls. She's a member of The Kilroys, a group for gender parity in theatre. “Just let us play the complicated characters . . . Viola Davis, Keri Washington’s character . . . Sandra Oh’s character, like, they’re not likeable all the time, you know, but it’s because . . . something about them are you, because that’s how people are right? Complicated, sometimes dark, sometimes funny.”
