If you're from Newfoundland, you probably already know that Tibb's Eve means December 23rd. It's the unofficial start of Christmas—when the holiday buzz really kicks in and everyone's back home, ready to reconnect with old friends. But Tibb's Eve didn't always mean celebration. Part One: What is Tibb's Eve? For me, and a lot of other Newfoundlanders, the 23rd of December is Tibb's Eve. It is Christmas Eve Eve and the unofficial start of the holiday season. For some people, Tibb's Eve has become synonymous with a good time, full of partying and alcohol. The connection with drinking is so strong that, for some people the day is known as Tipsy (Tip's) Eve. In this episode we did into it a little and chat about Tibb's Eve customs. It is though. For a lot of Newfoundlanders the holiday season would not be complete without this batch-made cocktail. I reached out to food blogger/instagrammer Jeremy Whey (aka @stuffthatinyourgob) to discuss his history with Christmas slush. He shares his recipe and variations he's tried. From there were drifted to dark/light Christmas cake, moose stew, salt cod and other Newfoundland food traditions. You can follow Jeremy on Instagram at @stuffthatinyourgob. Here's his slush recipe, as shared in the episode: Jeremy's Newfoundland Christmas Slush 1 cup sugar 6 cups water 2 cans of frozen concentrated orange juice 2 cans of frozen concentrated lemonade 1 large can pineapple juice 1 flask of vodka Boil the water, stir in the sugar. Add the remaining ingredients and freeze. To serve, scoop slush into a glass and top with as much 7-Up or Ginger Ale as you'd like. You can find some recipes for alternate versions of Christmas slush here. Jeremy and I confessed that some of our Christmas baking efforts have been less-than-successful. We used the word ‘dunch.' It occurs to me that non-NL listeners may be less familiar with that word. Here's a link to the definition in the Dictionary of Newfoundland English. And here's the recipe I mentioned for my mother's dark Christmas fruitcake. I've had great success with this one — nothing dunch about it. Check out the blog post to see, as ‘the murderous mummer'. Part Three: Monstrous Things Normally ‘Monstrous Things' features tales of Newfoundland sea monsters that have been reported in the mainstream media. This episode, is taking a different tack and veering into the realm of full-on legend — with tales of boo-baggers, boo-darbies and a strange Christmas creature called Rockyfoot. What do they have in common? Like Krampus and Santa Claus, they've all been used to encourage good behaviour in children. Yemek esnasında başımıza takke takılmasıyla sıcak tutulması beyin damarlarını genişleterek azalan beyinin kanlanması arttırılmış oluyor. Böylece beynimizin yemekte de normal çalışması sağlanmış oluyor. İnsan tuvalette iken büyük ve küçük tuvaletini yaparken genelde en az bir kez olsun ıkınma ihtiyacı duyar. Ikınma esnasında vücudumuzdaki “vagal tonus” artışı olur ve bu sinir sisteminin faaliyetinin artması ile kalp hızı yavaşlar, dolayısı ile kalbin beyine pompaladığı kan miktarı azalır, beyin kanlanmasının azalması da kişinin bayılmasına sebep olur. Dr. Ferial De Jongh completed her Bachelor of Science in Complementary Health Sciences in 2008 followed by a degree in Unani Tibb (Greek Arab Medicine). The first three and a half years of her career she spent at the Ibn Sina Institute of Tibb working at their two local Cape Town clinics while working at the old GF Jooster Hospital for one of those years.    She has, since graduating added on to her skills as she saw her patients needed them with courses and certificates in Facial Analysis and Tissue Salt Grading, Aafiyah Energy Healing and various Emotional Wellbeing and Mind-body Connection workshops. She's also furthered her knowledge and skills in herbal medicine compounding, a skill she is yet to further and put into practice. As a natural love to her since childhood is speaking and sharing and so it is no wonder that her current activities are practicing within her field, part time facilitation at the University of the Western Cape and as an added interest she produces and radio presents a weekly Health program called Healthwise on Radio 786, a holistic health program with the aim of bringing awareness to physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. This week, The Musafir Stories speaks to a very dear guest - Ajitha Yasmin, a long time listener and winner of the "Get Featured on the Musafir Stories" contest we ran on International Podcast Day earlier this year. Today's destination: Chadar Trek on the frozen Zanskar river, Jammu & Kashmir Nearest Airport: Leh Airport, IXL Nearest Railway Station: NA Prerequisites - Some experience in trekking is preferred, although not mandatory Packing - Make sure to either pack winter clothes or buy them in Leh. Decathalon is a good option in your city as well. Equipment is usually taken care of by the trek company. Time of the year - January Length of the itinerary: 6 day trek, 2 day acclimatization Itinerary Highlights: The 12 people strong team, set off after a day of acclimatization in Leh with a stopover at Magnetic hill. The trek kicks off at Chiling from where the group heads off on a 70km trek over 6 days. The trek goes through some interesting terrain with different formations of ice over the Zanskar river. The early hours are tricky with the team having to negotiate some thin layers of ice. The first stop for the night is Shingra where the team camps. Periodic oxygen level checks are performed by the trek company to ensure that everyone is good health. The trek continues through some magnificent terrain, covering icy sheets to frozen streams. The stop of the day is at Tibb caves, a point of meeting of two mountain ranges. The team also enjoy some good vegetarian food along with Thukpa, the tibetan soupy noodles. The final day of the onward journey ends at Nerak waterfalls - a frozen waterfall that is one of the iconic points of the trek at over 11,000 ft. The return journey is along the same path but on th other side of the frozen river bank. The team enjoys interacting with the local porters and share some hummable songs and the evergreen calls of Julley!
