What if the icons of conservative thought weren't who we believed them to be? This episode challenges preconceived notions as we unravel the complex tapestry of conservative politics and Christian nationalism. We start by examining why we did not endorse the Antioch Declaration, with a spotlight on William F. Buckley Jr.'s contentious journey through the American right. From his influential founding of the National Review to his polarizing stance on Israel, Buckley's legacy is dissected to reveal the nuanced layers of his impact on the conservative movement. Our conversation then shifts to the internal tug-of-war within conservative circles, featuring figures like Rod Dreher and Doug Wilson. We delve into the strategies and ideological shifts that are reshaping the landscape, drawing intriguing parallels to the left's approach of embracing extremes to shift societal discourse. Recent controversies surrounding "White Boy Summer," "Revoice for Nazis," and more  are addressed head-on, scrutinizing how antisemitism is being redefined within Christian communities and the implications of these narratives for the future of the movement. Finally, we explore the complexities of public controversies and their impact on church communities and leadership. With a pastoral lens, we investigate the heated disputes involving Joel, Tobias, and the Antioch Declaration, emphasizing the necessity of clear communication and accountability. This episode is a call to foster transparency and truth-seeking, advocating for thoughtful dialogues that bridge the gap between differing perspectives in a rapidly evolving political and religious landscape. We hope this episode answers these three key questions:1. Why didn't we sign the Antioch Declaration?2. What vision for Christian Nationalism do we support?3. What do we hope happens from here?

The Revoice Conference was founded in 2018 in order to 'support and encourage gay, lesbian, bisexual, and other same-sex attracted Christians—as well as those who love them—so that all in the Church might be empowered to live in gospel unity while observing the historic Christian doctrine of marriage and sexuality.' (Revoice, Mission Statement). A year after the initial event, aware that the movement was only just beginning, Dr. Jonathan Master wrote a 'Letter from America' in the Banner Magazine. With the help of the analysis of David Wells, he notes the weakness of the postmodern vision of spirituality that informs Revoice's commitments. He points us back to classical Christian spirituality, founded on a commitment to the holiness of God and a seriousness about sin which is well reflected in our second selection, from Geoff Thomas, entitled 'Take Sin Seriously'.   Featured Content: – 'Letter from America: The Revoice Conference', Jonathan Master, Banner of Truth Magazine, Issue 667 (April 2019). – 'Take Sin Seriously', Geoff Thomas, Banner of Truth Magazine, Issue 678 (March 2020).   Resources Mentioned: - 'When Christians Adopt Sinful Identities' (segment from Matthew Roberts interview): https://youtu.be/QmFkWDCixXg?si=PecUoJdy5vTIAbsp   Explore the work of the Banner: www.banneroftruth.org Subscribe to the magazine (print/digital/both): www.banneroftruth.org/magazine Leave us a voice message: www.speakpipe.com/magazinepodcast

Jared is a pastor in Tennessee. On November 13th, Jared posted this comment on X:  According to Dr. Rosaria Butterfield, What Christian ministries are heretical liars? "Revoice, Preston Sprinkle's Exiles in Babylon Conference sponsored by his heretical Center for Faith, Sexuality, and Gender, and CRU"  @PrestonSprinkle @crutweets That's what she said at  @LibertyU convocation this past Friday. What heresies/lies have they spread? 1) "Same-sex attraction is a sinless temptation, and only a sin if you act on it?" 2) "People who experience same-sex attraction are actually gay-Christians called to life-long celibacy?" 3) "People who experience same-sex attraction, rarely, if ever, change, and therefore, should never pursue, heterosexual marriage." 4) "Sex and gender are different, and God doesn't care if men live as men or if women live as women, because all you need to do is grow in the fruit of the Spirit, as if the fruit of the Holy Spirit can grow from sin." There are several things represented in this post that I have never said nor believe, and therefore I asked Jared to come on my podcast to talk about these errors that are said about me.  Jared's original post where he agrees that I'm a “heretical liar”: https://twitter.com/jaredhmoore/status/1724124156470444527 Jared's post where he lies about my ministry, The Center for Faith, Sexuality & Gender, “advocate[ing] for…non-sexual romance, cuddling & kissing, and snuggling in bed:” https://twitter.com/jaredhmoore/status/1724042446223368248 And here is the paper written by Dr. Greg Coles and published by The Center for Faith, Sexuality & Gender regarding celibate relationships (regarding the cuddling and kissing comment above), which Jared and I discuss toward the end of the podcast: https://www.centerforfaith.com/resources?field_product_category_tid=1 Jared's post where he publicly says Rachel Gilson is “legitimizing gay marriage,” which is factually wrong: https://twitter.com/jaredhmoore/status/1724088931816276476 Here are a few books I've written on the topic of sexuality and gender, which clearly argue against the very viewpoints that Jared says I believe:  People to Be Loved: https://www.amazon.com/People-Be-Loved-Homosexuality-Issue/dp/0310519659/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1700630797&sr=8-1 Embodied: https://www.amazon.com/Embodied-Transgender-Identities-Church-Bible/dp/0830781226/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1700630831&sr=8-1 Does the Bible Support Same-Sex Marriage? https://www.amazon.com/Does-Bible-Support-Same-Sex-Marriage/dp/0830785671/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1700630857&sr=8-1 Here is a two-part series I did on Theology in the Raw on why I believe in the historically Christian view of marriage: Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wuu6LUfEm2A&t=1s Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvuc1S1-408

Ezra Weinberg, who each have experienced divorce and been underwhelmed by the response within their Jewish communities and are advocating for change (12:40). In the conversation, Collis and Weinberg imagine what more embracing responses might look like: from organizing meal trains and Shabbat invitations to, possibly, including divorce announcements in synagogue bulletins. Weinberg talks about his work with the group he's founded: Revoice, a Journey of Discovery for Jewish Families After Divorce. At the top of the show, executive producer Jacob Staub shares experiences from his own painful divorce. Hey there! We recorded an episode at Revoice 2023—a conference supporting Christians who are sexual minorities seeking to live out their faith according to a traditional, biblical sexual ethic. We loved doing this live episode recording with the Revoice community, and we are delighted to welcome Greg Coles and Erin Phelps to the podcast stage: Gregory Coles is the author of Single, Gay, Christian (InterVarsity Press, 2017) and No Longer Strangers (InterVarsity Press, 2021). He holds a PhD in English from Penn State and lives in Idaho's Treasure Valley, where he works as a writer and speaker. Greg is a Senior Research Fellow at The Center for Faith, Sexuality & Gender and curates most of his creative activities at gregorycoles.com. Erin Phelps is a Lumbee and Waccamaw Siouan woman living in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her interests include, anti-racism, sustainable fashion, and boy bands. Currently she is working to building a community for Side B women called Your Other Sisters alongside Your Other Brothers. We talked with Erin and Greg about the social construction of sexual orientation language—what it means to use human-created categories like “gay” or “queer” in a way that affects our daily realities. We talk about whether the words we choose to describe ourselves matter, how you might come out to someone in different languages, the need to use language to push back against oppression, and much more. So, please bear with the echoes and sound quality of a live Q&A—this was an exciting episode to create with the Revoice community, and now we're excited to share it with you! — Note: This episode uses the terms “Side A” and “Side B” (and X, Y) as shorthand quite a bit. Art is the Director of Community Care for Revoice--an organization whose mission is to support and encourage gay, lesbian, bisexual, and other same-sex attracted Christians—as well as those who love them—so that all in the Church might be empowered to live in gospel unity while observing the historic Christian doctrine of marriage and sexuality. Art realized he was gay at around age 12 and became a Christian in his late teens. He's served as a youth pastor and currently works for Revoice. Our converation reflects upon his journey, which includes seeking to find intimacy and community as a gay man and committed Christ follower pursuing celibacy.

If you thought bad evangelical sex books were a thing of the 80s and 90s, guess again. Last week The Gospel Coalition lit the interwebs on fire by publishing an excerpt from an upcoming book by one of their (now former) fellows. This conversation untangles the sloppy reading of Ephesians 5, disturbing Roman Catholic roots, and what happens when we misuse biblical metaphors.  Partner with us for $3/month to join us for The Big Debrief, a zoom call where we discuss all the things you heard in this episode and more. Mere Simulacrity, Session 4 What has led the Christian Church down the roads of numerous Mass Formation Psychosis programs over the past 10 years across evangelicalism? Mass Formation Psychosis occurs when a significantly large group of people myopically focuses its attention on a leader or a series of events and their attention focuses on one small point or issue. Followers can be hypnotized and be led anywhere, regardless of data proving otherwise. We have seen this materialize across evangelicalism through the massive campaigns run through The Gospel Coalition, the ERLC, and various seminaries in Baptist, Presbyterian and Charismatic denominations. From CRT, to intersectionality, to Revoice, to all myriads of Christianized schemes for the faithful to embrace DEI, the reflexive campaigns led by corrupt “Christian Leaders” have led millions astray and down a road of psychological manipulation. In this discussion enters Jean Baudrillard and his understanding of hyperreality the creation of synthetic reality, which is not reality at all: it is the creation of something that is more real than real. It is beyond propaganda, but propaganda is certainly utilized. It is the creation of simulacra and simulation. And in this world of simulacrums, we are being told to ignore what was held to be orthodox, normative and true and embrace hyperreality: an unreality that has no connection with that which it claims to represent. This continuation of this process leads to the development of a faith that is not the faith that was faithfully handed down from generation to generation. What this process leads to is a rough simulated beast of C.S. Lewis' “Mere Christianity”. What it leads to is “Mere Simulacrity.” Join Sovereign Nations Founder Michael O'Fallon as he begins his three-part series on “Mere Simulacrity.” https://sovereignnations.com Support Sovereign Nations: https://paypal.me/sovnations https://patreon.com/sovnations Follow Sovereign Nations: https://sovereignnations.com/subscribe/ © 2023 Sovereign Nations. How to talk to your elders about addressing LGBTQ related questions? Did I misrepresent Alisa Childers? What do I think about the World Mag's critical article about Revoice? Are pastors different from elders? What do I say to people who think the annihilation view of hell is “dangerous” and less evangelistically effective as ECT? Can I recommend a good, somewhat short, commentary on the Pastoral Epistles? How do I choose which guests to invite to be on the podcast? Revoice is the organization of Christians who maintain a belief in Biblical orthodoxy related to sexuality, but still identify themselves as “gay,” or “queer,” etc. We get into some of the shocking things that were said and done during this conference (e.g. Organizers handed out name tags and instructed attendees to select a sticker with their preferred pronouns to wear and tote bags/tees with slogans such as “Queer Today, Queer Tomorrow.” Speakers frequently referred to “sexual and gender minorities” along with terms such as women “assigned female at birth.” One presenter was introduced using “they/them” pronouns and wore a black T-shirt w/ the inscription, “Imago Dei” in transgender flag colors. On the table: a frank discussion of the ongoing fallout from the Revoice conference and other sexually-charged issues challenging the Church.  Joining Carl and Todd are author, speaker, former professor, and current sock maker Rosaria Butterfield, along with Joshua Gielow. Joshua is from truthXchange, an organization that helps the next Christian generation think clearly and live virtuously in a culture antagonistic to their faith. You'll learn to discern the subtle shifts in language used to normalize certain behaviors making their way into the Church and the attitude of victimhood used to silence any criticism.  We have a limited number of copies of The New Reformation Catechism on Human Sexuality by Christopher Gordon to give away; it's published by the Gospel Reformation Network.
