While Dire Straits were a solid band that had radio hits since their first album was released in 1978, there was nothing to portend the outrageous fortune they would find in 1985 with Brothers in Arms. Their previous album, Love Over Gold, failed to go platinum in the US or produce any big radio hits. Twisting By The Pool from their 1983 EP was catchy but also kitschy and made some wonder if they were trying to parody the oldies instead of creating an homage. While the live album Alchemy was fantastic, it was not a huge seller. Lead singer, lead guitarist and songwriter Mark Knopfler had success in the studio with Steely Dan and Bob Dylan, produced some great movie soundtracks and wrote songs for others like Private Dancer for Tina Turner. But he hadn't made a Dire Straits album that captured the public's imagination. Until they made Brothers In Arms in 1985.... Mark brought in a young keyboard player named Guy Fletcher to give his songs more texture and eventually brought in legendary session drummer Omar Hakim to lay down all the drum parts. The result was an album that hit #1 around the world selling more than 4.5 million in the UK, 9 million in the US and 30 million around the world. The single Money For Nothing topped the charts around the world and featured Sting singing the famous line I Want My MTV. Of course at the time MTV played videos by artists who wrote music and played instruments and between Sting's catchphrase and the cutting edge (at the time) computer animation, it went into heavy rotation and would be heralded as one of the greatest videos for years. But the sound was so crisp on this album it was used to sell CD players in stores and was the first record to sell more on CD than on LP, thanks in large part to recording on digital tape and Knopfler's never ending search for quality sound. Songs like Your Latest Trick and Why Worry may be mellow but you can hear every note. Walk Of Life was fun, upbeat track that featured 2 different videos for the US and UK markets. And while the second side of the album might not have featured the big hits as the first side, Knopfler's lyrics take on more serious notions like war, life and death. the final and title track brought up visions of pain from the Falklands War that had affected so many in the UK and Argentina and is seen as a respectful tribute to those who fought (and often played at military funerals0. You can't tell the story of MTV, the 1980s or Dire Straits without this album and we dug in for an in-depth conversation about its impact at the time and how it sound today. Plus, we have a little audio from Guy Fletcher talking about Dolby Atmos mixes for the upcoming 40th anniversary edition which will include a concert from the Live in 85 tour. In this episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, hosts Coach Ashlie Walton and Sergeant Clint Walton address a relatable and emotional topic for first responder families. In the wake of the recent California wildfires, many fire wives have shared that they constantly check their husbands' locations out of fear and worry. While this behavior comes from a place of love, it can quickly become unhealthy and strain the relationship. You'll learn how to balance trust and worry, build independence in your relationship, and manage the natural anxiety (Amazon Affiiate) that comes with loving someone in a dangerous profession. This episode provides practical strategies to strengthen your bond while maintaining emotional well-being. Why Worry is Natural in First Responder Relationships: Understand how the high-risk nature of first responder work can fuel worry and why it's important to find healthy ways to manage these feelings. Five Practical Ways to Balance Trust and Worry: 1. Set Healthy Boundaries Around Technology: Example: Limit location checking to agreed-upon times or emergencies only, and resist the urge to track unnecessarily. Why It's Beneficial: Encourages trust and reduces the anxiety spiral that constant monitoring can create. 2. Focus on Building Trust Through Communication: Example: Have open conversations about safety protocols, your partner's work routines, and how they'll keep in touch during emergencies. Why It's Beneficial: Reinforces your confidence in their ability to stay safe and keeps you informed without overstepping boundaries. 3. Channel Worry Into Positive Action: Example: Instead of dwelling on fear, use the time to prepare care packages, engage in self-care, or support other first responder families. Why It's Beneficial: Shifts focus from worry to productive, meaningful activities that strengthen community bonds. 4. Establish a Trusted Support System: Example: Connect with other first responder spouses who understand the unique challenges and can offer encouragement and advice. Why It's Beneficial: Reduces feelings of isolation and provides perspective from those who share similar experiences. 5. Practice Mindfulness to Manage Anxiety: Example: Use deep breathing exercises, guided meditations, or journaling to process emotions and reduce stress. Why It's Beneficial: Helps you regain control over your emotions and approach situations with a clearer mindset. How to Differentiate Between Trust and Over-Dependence: Learn why relying too heavily on location tracking or constant updates can undermine trust and create unnecessary tension. Why Independence is Key in First Responder Relationships: Explore how fostering personal independence can strengthen your relationship and make you more resilient during difficult times. Steps to Build a Healthier Balance in Your Partnership: Discover actionable ways to create a partnership based on trust, open communication, and mutual support, even in the face of danger. Why This Matters: Worry is inevitable when you love someone who works in a dangerous profession, but it doesn't have to dominate your relationship. By fostering trust, setting healthy boundaries, and finding productive outlets for your concerns, you can build a strong, supportive partnership that thrives despite the challenges. WHY WORRY, ALLAH KNOWS THE FUTURE
Why Worry?Worry—it's universal. It's as much a part of life as breathing. “I'm stressed.” “I feel anxious.”Yet Jesus said, “Don't. Don't worry!” Easier said than done. . .Where does worry come from? Why is it so difficult to overcome? And what can you do to conquer it?Despite the uncertainty of our lives and the world around us and the pressure we place on ourselves, as Followers of Jesus we are directed to release our anxiety and worry to God. When we do, we don't have to lie awake at night. Our shortness of breath can be replaced by life-giving rest. We can experience a peace that goes beyond our human understanding. The Apostle Paul says, “Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”For more information, check out www.miamichurch.com, or follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.Support the show
++++++++++Song-Tipps zur Folge++++++++++ Down on the Waterline, Sultans of Swing, In The Gallery, Wild West End, News, Lady Writer, Single Handed Sailor, Tunnel of Love, Romeo & Juliet, Expresso Love, Solid Rock, Telegraph Road, Private Investigations, Walk of Life, Money For Nothing, Your Latest Trick, Why Worry, The Man's Too Strong

A new MP3 sermon from Providence Presbyterian Church is now available on SermonAudio with the following details: Title: 2012-09-02 Why Worry? Subtitle: The Gospel of Matthew Speaker: Aaron Myers Broadcaster: Providence Presbyterian Church Event: Sunday Service Date: 9/2/2012 Bible: Matthew 6:25-34 Length: 41 min.
Episode 160-Why Worry? What problem has you up at night fretting about how to fix it? What thoughts keep tumbling around and around in your head? What do you worry about? To me, the most debilitating thing about worry is it keeps me stuck in an endless cycle of rehashing and rehashing whatever problem I am thinking about. I hate being stuck so that makes me worry all the more. If we had no problems, we'd never worry. So, worry starts with problems we are trying to solve but don't have the solution to. However worrying about our problems, doesn't get us anywhere. It only makes us feel worse and doesn't change anything. It is the precursor to stress and other negative emotions. Worry can harm us mentally and physically. Mentally it can lead to anxiety, fear and depression. Physically it can elevate stress levels, lead to exhaustion and weakened immune systems. Maybe the biggest thing worry does to us is to keep us from living our lives as whole, healthy and happy people. When we are worrying, we are missing all the great things happening in our lives all around us. Donc C-I-A: contrôle, influence, acceptation. Exemple: mon chef me micromanage.
The partiality we display, insofar as we form and sustain personal attachments, is not normatively fundamental. It is a byproduct of the deference and responsiveness that are essential to our engagement with the world. We cannot form and sustain valuable personal relationships without seeing ourselves as answerable to the other participants in those relationships. And we cannot develop and sustain valuable projects without responding to the constraints imposed on our activities by the nature and requirements of those projects themselves. More generally, we cannot engage with the world without meeting it on its terms, and we cannot meet the world on its terms without responding differentially – or displaying partiality – with respect to the objects of our engagement. Partiality is thus a byproduct of engagement. We cannot engage with the world at all without exhibiting forms of partiality. He has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the U.S. National Endowment for the Humanities, and he has been a Visiting Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford. His first book was awarded the Matchette Prize of the American Philosophical Association. "Why Worry?" Matthew 6:24-34 Dr. Mercer by CrossLife Church
Regardless on where you stand on the candidates or the issue in the current presidential election, everyone of us has had a moment, or many moments, where we think, How's this going to turn out? There's uncertainty, and as we've established, uncertainty is the birthplace of worry. Listen to week 3 of our series, Why Worry?, as Pastor Gabe teaches on the reason we have no reason to worry about the election and what our practical response should be in this season.
Who doesn't struggle with worry? From finances to health, from a career change to a relationship, uncertainty becomes the birthplace of all of our worries in life. Listen to week 1 of our series, Why Worry?, as Pastor Gabe teaches on the difference between us having worry and worry having us, and what the Bible says we need to do about it.
