I- Geçmişi deşmeyelim” Hastanenin bahçesi tenha. Telefon sustu. Onlardan önce ben merak ettim telefon ile arayanı. Birkaç saniye sonra telefon bir daha çaldı. Arayan aynı kişi miydi? Sesleri duyulur duyulmaz kıvamdaydı. Onları monttu, hayır yelekti atışmasında bırakıp yürüdüm. Gittikçe azalan sesler adamın “geçmişi deşmeyelim geçmişi deşmeyelim” diye en yüksek frekansta seyreden sesine bıraktı yerini. “Geçmişi deşmeyelim...” Adamın cümlesi bir romandan satırlar bırakıp gitti zihnime. II- “ZAMAN SIĞINAĞI”

Mary Asaba, artistically known as ASABA, is a female Cameroonian Afrosoul/Afropop singer, songwriter, and state registered nurse. Her music is soulful Afropop, with clear influences from Makossa and Njang. As a State Registered Nurse, she came into music by doing backing vocals for top Cameroonian acts such as Daphne, Mr. Leo, Salatiel, etc. In 2020, she got signed to Starfish Entertainment which launched her career as a lead performing artist with the release of her single Yele, and since then has released a couple of singles and her first official EP in 2022 titled ”LIGHTER”, which featured acts such as Mr. Leo, Mic Monsta, Locko, Kameni and Cleo Grae. Her biggest challenge growing up as a young girl was insecurity, not feeling beautiful enough in her own skin and it limited her passion and drive. Music became her safe haven and her voice. Through music, she aims to be that voice that reaches out to people, be their strength, hope, and comfort, and encourages them to embrace themselves in whatever form, shape, and size. BOLDNESS CREATES OPPORTUNITY My father had plans for me but I wasn't keen on that... he wasn't very happy to support me. For a lot of young Africans this statement isn't new to them. It's not easy chattering your path against your parents' will. So many questions are already asked to us in the startup world about the description of our work and for a lot of us there's really no easy way to explain. Yele Oyekola is most certainly not a stranger to this reality however unlike most, he isn't one to back down from his ambition and one word we can use to describe him is decisive. From financing his own studies in the UK against his father's wishes, to getting into fintech in the UN, to working at Carbon and finally co-founding Duplo a B2B buy now pay later product in Nigeria, Yele's story is one of resilience, boldness and absolutely giving zero care to what others think. "The worst that can happen is you'll get broke, but you'll be fine" Can we acquire this attitude? Join him and Mark as they delve into how Yele made money through shoe making to pay for his school and his experience learning about fintech from the ground up. Enjoy.

Yele Aluko is Chief Medical Officer at EY, a role he has held for close to 4 years. He is Co-Chair, Health Equity Advisory, at the international Well Building Institute, an Advisory Board Member at the Children's National Hospital and a Board Member at the Wake Forest University School of Business. He has worked as a Cardiologist in hospital settings for over 30 years. Yele was born in Nigeria and we start with when he first realized his calling to be a doctor. We trace his journey to the US and how at the beginning he went through a difficult integration into life there - with little social capital locally and few relationships. We move to his journey to cardiology and his experience in hospital settings, and ultimately to what led him to move away from bedside medicine into matters of medical policy. True to the mission of this podcast series we examine the issue of diversity in medicine, and Yele discusses the concepts of "missing persons" in medicine - the gap in representation of people of color at every level of medicine and the trickle down effects that this causes in terms of access to health care, trust in medical professionals and healthcare equity. We discuss initiatives to eliminate bias, and whether they work, and why they often lack sufficient "buy in". This rich discussion is part of our Fiftyfaces Nigerian Voices series which will be released later in July. We are releasing it now as a counter narrative to that espoused by the podcast by the JAMA of February 2021 that questioned whether systemic racism in medicine existed.

El ego no es malo, pues es necesario un poco de ego para alcanzar cualquier meta que te quieras trazar. Lo malo es el exceso de ego, pues ese es el que empieza a generar problemas no solo en tu vida sino también en la sociedad.

On the other hand, as our guests discuss, it was a broader awakening and a demand for generational economic opportunity. My guest today is Yele Bademosi. Yele is the founder of Microtraction, an angel investment platform that funds Africa's technology entrepreneurs in their early stage. Microtraction is one of the most active pre-seed investment firms in Nigeria.  Yele and I have known each other for some time. We've worked together closely in the past, when he became the first person to join my previous company, Starta, barely a few weeks after it was founded in late 2015. It is quite fitting that Yele is the first guest on season 4 of this podcast after a long break. We recorded this episode in late 2019, before COVID, so a lot of the things we talked about might be out of kilter with the current post-COVID world realities. This is the first of the two-part interview. In this episode, we talked about how he started his career and why he left medicine to pursue a whole different path. We also talked about leadership, growth and how good relationships often create a funnel of positive serendipity. I hope you'll enjoy this episode as much as I did.In this episode we discussed; How he left medicine to pursue his Startup dreamHis first idea for the Nigerian market and why it failedThe hype around blockchain and the possibilities it holds for the African startup ecosystemYele's definition of success and what growth looks like in tech startupsIf regular management hacks can work for the new tech startupsThe role good relationships played in his journey and what it means for upcoming generationsThe two things new tech founders should focus on in their early stage and why

In this episode of the state of crypto brainstorm, the Amun team (Hany Rashwan, Hansen Wang, and Lanre Ige) came together to discuss the impact crypto and blockchain technology could have across the continent of Africa. The external guest this week was Yele Bademosi — Director and Ambassador of Africa at Binance Labs. It is important to note that it is impossible to develop a coherent thesis for the whole of Africa — the world's most diverse and multi-faceted continent — so instead this episode will mostly focus on Nigeria, where both Yele and Lanre are from. One narrative which has been consistent throughout the history of crypto has been the concept of "Banking the Unbanked" especially with reference to the continent of Africa. There has been the hope that crypto could in some way act as a way to allow for people to store their wealth in a censorship-resistant way — especially in cases where their was a generally lack of faith in their public institutions — or facilitate cross-border payments and remittances payments.  Especially since the rise in prominence of the next generation of stablecoins such as Dai or Celo — or even Facebook's Libra — the argument has been made that these kind of crypto products will help "Bank the Unbanked in Africa". However, a problem with this is that often many of those within the industry have touted crypto as offering solutions (and then created such solutions) without first properly understanding the problems. There's no doubt that Africa — the world's youngest continent — has an almost unbounded potential to grow and countries like Nigeria have begun to show their potential as the new hubs for innovation and financial technology. However, I think it's important first to step back and properly understand, in crypto's case at least, what problems there are to solve for those within the crypto industry and the different modes of thinking we can adopt to create better solutions. In this episode, Yele and the Amun team discuss Yele's thesis for crypto in Africa, touch on the various problems that crypto can actually help solve, and analyze what the main impediments to crypto adoption in Africa are. Stayed tuned. Reading Materials: Binance Podcast — Blockchain Continent is Happening in Africa (w. My African Clichés / African History, Daily

My African cliché of the day is a number. 1 billion. This will be the number of young people under 18 years old, on the African continent by 2050 according to the projections by the United Nations. Africa will then own 40% of the children on earth. This number is described as a threat according to the chants of neo-Malthusianism such as the current French president. But this number is above all, an opportunity for Africa, because it represents the promise of millions of African fantastic inventors, entrepreneurs, farmers, musicians, historians, geeks and so and so... . It’s up to you to tell me if they are, and to think about all the African geniuses who are already maker the continent happy and proud, who are honoring it around the world, such as Matthew Ncube, in London, a great friend of this podcast ; to think about those who are waiting to make their dreams come true, they will all bloom tomorrow before our eyes and deserve our support. And to you, to your own genius, which contributes in your way, to a standing and beautiful Africa. Beautiful like my 3 assistants of the day, Trevor-Jabali, Yele and Shola, they are, like millions of children here in the continent and across the planet , the inevitably magnificent future of Africa.
