Annnnnd....we're back! We dusted off our mics and shook off the holiday fog to bring you Episode 8, fresh off an extended January breather – which, let's be honest, was a bit more extended than we initially planned, but perhaps the perfect way to sum up this episode...where we are giving ourselves (and everyone else) permission for a slower, less scripted start to the new year.In this episode, we dive headfirst into the catch-22 of New Year's resolutions, imposter syndrome, and the realities of setting and (not) keeping those well-intended beginnings. Which begs the question, should imposters even make resolutions? And if so, what does it mean when we inevitably find ourselves watching those resolutions slip through our fingers, especially through the lens of our imposter syndrome? We chat about ditching the pressures of 'New Year, New You', in favour of a more forgiving approach while delving into the nuances of setting (or not setting) personal and professional goals, battling our inner imposter, and why it's perfectly okay to declare February (or March, or April) the real start of the new year. From the pitfalls of planning when you add ADHD into the mix, to the universal feeling of being utterly tired (our unofficial word for the year), we cover it all.Whether you're treading water with your resolutions, still trying to figure out your word of the year, or just here for a good time, we're right there with you as we navigate the choppy waters of early 2025.*********LINKS:You can find Alix Robinson and Colleen O'Dea on Instagram at @ImposterSisters and also at @everydayimbranding (Alix) and @queenofcurtains (Colleen).MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES:Nova Scotia Mental Health Crisis Line: 1-888-429-8167 [toll-free]Nova Scotia Mental Health Mobile Crisis Team: 1-902-429-8167Kids Help Phone: 1-800-668-6868 | Text CONNECT to 686868Talk Suicide Canada | Text 45645 | Call 1.833.456.4566 MUSIC CREDITS:Drawbridge Creative Ad Spot - Stock Music provided by tunestogo, from Pond5The Mellow Mug Ad Spot - Stock Music provided by AleXZavesa, from Pond5Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/impostersisters/ You can watch this episode on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/@impostersisterspodcast

On this episode of Imposter Sisters we chat with fellow podcaster Jess Clerk about her “Year of Confidence” project, its impact on her journey, and how she transformed into the ultimate hype girl. Inspired by Shonda Rhimes's "Year of Yes", Jess created the "Year of Confidence" project to try new things, find who she was... what made her Jess. When the year was up, she realized she wasn't done and with everything she'd learned in that 365 days... she simply kept on going with the solid knowledge that she no longer needed to be perfect... and had so much to share. As she gathered women around her, Jess built an online community, "Selfish Sisterhood", that has grown to include both events and retreats. In fact, if you're on a journey to embrace your authentic self and connect with incredible people, check out the two-day "Speak Up!" conference happening early October in Halifax. We chatted with Jess about her 10-10-10 theory, ditching being perfect, boosting others up, helping and serving like-minded women, being broken, meditating, breathwork, realizing you aren't alone, authenticity, and more. Jess Clerk exudes LOVE. She's bright, lively, warm, kind... and makes you feel ABSOLUTELY AMAZING by simply being in her light. **********The Imposter Sisters are truly thrilled to have Jess in our circle and look forward to collaborating together soon! ********** Welcome to our sisterhood Jess! On this episode of Imposter Sisters, Alix brings another family member to the mic as we introduce you to her sister, Erica Thompson. Erica lives in the NWT and is an award winning educator and consultant working with Indigenous Youth. Erica has certainly felt Imposter Syndrome through the years. In the early days of teaching, she knew she didn't know everything she needed to know as anyone new to a teaching career would feel. She found her place creating innovative and amazing land-based programs for her students and in 2017, was awarded The Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence.Erica currently consults with the school board to help build programs that are authentic to the Indigenous community. Our conversation with her was completely fascinating as Erica talks about what she has to offer, her experience, and her questions about whether or not she's the right person to hold this position of authority. We chat about the need for community through celebrations and through tough times, how Erica re-energizes through “chamber days”, what she's learned and loved about living up North, and about being embraced and welcomed into a community she now calls home. **********The Imposter Sisters podcast is hosted by two self-proclaimed "fake it 'til you make it" experts, Colleen O'Dea and Alix Robinson, as they discuss and analyze the ups and downs of feeling like frauds while navigating through their professional and personal lives! Please enjoy and be sure to share with the imposters in your life!**********LINKS:You can find Alix Robinson and Colleen O'Dea on Instagram at @ImposterSisters and also at @everydayimbranding (Alix) and @queenofcurtains (Colleen)…or, often in person @themellowmug.MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES:Nova Scotia Mental Health Crisis Line: 1-888-429-8167 [toll-free]Nova Scotia Mental Health Mobile Crisis Team: 1-902-429-8167Kids Help Phone: 1-800-668-6868 | Text CONNECT to 686868Talk Suicide Canada | Text 45645 | Call 1.833.456.4566WHAT KIND OF IMPOSTER ARE YOU?Here are a few quizzes to try!https://www.everywoman.com/my-development/quiz-there-are-5-kinds-imposter-syndrome-which-one-yours/https://www.grammarly.com/blog/imposter-syndrome-quiz/MUSIC CREDITS:Drawbridge Creative Ad Spot - Stock Music provided by tunestogo, from Pond5Every Day I'm Branding Ad Spot - Stock Music provided by wolfgangwoehrle, from Pond5The Mellow Mug Ad Spot - Stock Music provided by AleXZavesa, from Pond5**********Imposter Roster:The Imposter Roster, a Live Podcast and Networking event!October 22nd, 6pm at The Mellow MugFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/impostersisters/ You can watch this episode on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/@impostersisterspodcast

Jen Warrington, owner of The Fusion Group, joins us at the mic to talk about how she “figured it out" and created a career that she's truly proud of.Our convo starts with being sport's moms and raising children then moved into chatting about Jen's life as a career recruiter with The Fusion Group… helping people find their path from their passions. We chatted about “formal education”, assumptions we make about other people's' lives and the baggage they carry, the experience we gain simply from living, what determines “success”, the pressure to choose the “right path”, and more about raising children which left us completely lost in conversation. When we found our way back, we opened up about Imposter Syndrome and the fact that Jen Warrington falls into the Soloist category. She's smart, she's driven, and she's playing by her own set of rules.Does Jen have Imposter Syndrome? In September 1970, commandos from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) hijacked five planes, landing three of them near Zarqua, Jordan, at a remote desert airstrip called Dawson's Field, which the commandos renamed Revolution Airport. While they held hundreds of passengers and flight crew hostage in the desert, the PFLP issued their demands for release of Palestinian militants who were imprisoned in Europe. Joining me on this episode to help us understand more is American historian Prof. Martha Hodes, who was a 12-year-old passenger on one of the planes, flying with her 13-year-old sister, Catherine. Dr. Hodes is Professor of History at New York University and the author of My Hijacking: A Personal History of Forgetting and Remembering. Our theme song is Frogs Legs Rag, composed by James Scott and performed by Kevin MacLeod, licensed under Creative Commons. If Jen Meza has proven anything to the folks around her, it's that she knows how to PIVOT! Jen was working full-time in her dream job and part time as a local influencer as the pandemic hit... unfortunately, that dream job bit the dust and Jen was left with her head spinning. Jen used her creative talents and got to work putting together the Our Best Nova Scotia travel journal, an Etsy shop for woven hangings, and courses in vision boards... realizing she had a creativeness she could share with others.Jen continues her creative, entrepreneurial work and is constantly looking at new projects. She's a phenomenal influencer who works with brands as she showcases "real life" as a busy mom of two. Was Jen our first guest or our last ? My guest today is a woman I met a couple of years ago whilst wearing a delicious pair of sequinned dungarees and accepting an award at the International Women's Podcast Awards. Her name is Annabelle Buckland, and she's an radio host, podcast producer and general audio whizzo. She also has ADHD. We've discussed a lot of things on this podcast over the last 5 years, but the impact of an adult diagnosis of ADHD on career and working life is one that so far we haven't touched on, so I'm pleased that we're diving into that today. If you need more information or are affected by anything you've heard today, I've popped plenty of links in the show notes with information and support. Above all though, Buckers is hilarious and thoughtful, and an amazing interviewee. We talked about her early obsession with dental hygiene, why going touni isn't always a dream choice and about the progression of women in audio. Enjoy this one. Amid the smoke and gore on the first island near Vulcans Point, Macekor and Dresden strike down the flesh and bones of their enemies while Felosial and The Fraternity start an assault near the rocky cliffs. My guest today has gone from shy wallflower to recipient of international film awards and a column in Forbes. Jia Wertz is a filmmaker, entrepreneur, podcaster, activist and writer, who, like many of our guests, has had a working life with some unexpected twists and turns.Jia had a super successful career in the fashion industry when she first heard the podcast Serial back in 2014. She was moved to do what she could to help Adnan Syed, the protagonist of the series, who was sentenced at the age of 17 for the murder of Hae Min Lee, a crime he always denied. Jia became actively involved in Adnan's case, and at the same time, made the decision to quit her career in fashion and go to film school at the age of 40 having recently given birth to her son. Jia was subsequently inspired to make her first documentary film, Conviction, about the wrongful conviction of Jeffrey Deskovic, which won multiple awards and opened Jia's career up in ways she never expected. Since we recorded this podcast, Adnan Syed has been released from prison and the charges against him dropped. You can read more about the case here.Useful linksJia's websiteFollow Jia on Instagram Follow Jia on Twitter Watch the trailer for Conviction on YouTube Watch Conviction on Amazon Prime MusicProvided by ZakharValaha, AleXZavesa, Coma-Media SergeQuadrado

This is Part Two of my chat with Sam Baines, my first guest for Season 6 of the podcast, and a woman that I've know for a few years after she was shortlisted at the inaugural International Women's Podcast Awards back in 2021. It's fitting that she's first this season, because she's been the first woman to do a few other things too. Sam is an award-winning comedian, podcaster, author, actor, broadcaster and general legend. In 2014 she won the Funny Women Awards, and subsequently went on to scoop of the 2015 ‘What the Frock' Best Newcomer Award. But that's not all. As an adult, Sam experienced hearing loss, and is now a deaf activist, hearing aid wearer, and an ambassador for the RNID.She's written two children's books, Harriet Versus The Galaxy and The Night The Moon Went Out, and she tells me in this conversation about how she got her first book deal (spoiler alert: she wrote it without an official offer). Her new book, Living With Hearing Loss and Deafness, is available to pre-order now. As well as all this, she's got an award-winning podcast, The Divorce Social, discussing, surprise, surprise, divorce, and her acting credits include The Crown, Call the Midwife, and Magic Mike Live in the West End. There is nothing this woman can't do.We covered SO much ground in this chat, which was recorded aaaages ago live at The Podcast Show - basically I had to give myself a good kick up the arse to get the podcast moving again in 2023, so that's entirely on me. There was so much good stuff that I cut it in two. This is part two. Enjoy.
