There's nothing like pissy internet trolls to help you get crystal clear about who you engage with and that you don't owe anybody anything. Not to mention the joy of choosing to block these people from your life.My friend Karen Michaels (a brilliant social media strategist) repeatedly repeats that it's vitally as important to curate your feeds as it is to post and engage.I won't get into a bunch of details here- because the entire exchange was, quite frankly, a little wackadoodle. I re-posted something on Facebook about the Barbie snub of Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie not being nominated for Best Director or Best Actress. The FB repost was a quote from Bette Midler. To which a friend replied that it was typical of Amercians to lie and omit only to advance a narrative.Um… excuse me?What I should have done was delete him and block him immediately. But because this person was a “friend” (we've had actual conversations on Zoom, I've interviewed him, etc.), I was pretty respectful in my response. Why a white male from Canada has a dog in the fight when it comes to American women feeling this was unjust (and just a little bit ironic considering the context of the movie) is beyond me.Little fact for you: In the 100 years of the Academy Awards, only EIGHT females have been nominated for director, with only three winnings.Either way, it was a ridiculous exchange and out of left field. After I deleted all of his comments and blocked him, all I could think was that this person must have something deeper going on and decided to pick a fight.I'm all for differing opinions, provided you can be respectful.Transform Ideas into Inspired Action: Subscribe to the SPARKThe implication was also that because the movie received other awards, people (i.e., women) shouldn't be upset. Here's the thing: I'm at a point in my life when I'm done trying to appease idiots. I don't need to justify or explain myself to anyone. That being said, I'm pretty sure social media isn't the place where meaningful change is going to happen, especially with someone shows up just to be a dick.It makes me think of the Maya Angelou quote:“When someone shows you who they are the first time, believe them.”Maya AngelouHere's another internet troll story from last week that happened with a friend.I'm going to be a little cryptic since it's not my personal story, but you'll get the gist of it.A friend posted on Twitter that he was deleting a large quantify of cold subscribers from his email list that had come through one specific growth strategy, then asked if people could guess what it was.Someone from a company that sells this growth strategy jumped in with what appeared to be an attempt at a diplomatic reply, only to end up basically blaming the issue on the creator/business owner not having a good onboarding sequence.Sigh.Huge opportunity missed for creating a conversation about doing better. My friend is pretty brilliant when it comes to email marketing, growth, data, and automations.By the way, the growth strategy that was called out was referral programs.I'll go on the record now and say that if these programs don't improve, in other...
Jesus is the most popular figure in the world. People tend to visualize of Jesus based on who they are, not who He is.Hebrews 13:8-9a Three images of Jesus you will be tempted to embrace:American JesusHippie JesusTerminator Jesus Today, American Jesus.I'm using the term American Jesus in a negative way because as Amercians, we tend to view Jesus through the lens of our being American. Christian nationalism.Christianity Today defines it as "the belief that the American nation is defined by Christianity, and the government should take active steps to keep it that way."Patriotism is good, but God doesn't love America more than Bolivia.Mark 12:17 ESV God does not see your responsibility to your country to be the same thing as your allegiance to His Kingdom. You are not Christian American, you are an American Christian. American Jesus is Jesus made in the image of American: materialism, self-reliance, achievement, excess. Four signs that you might worship American Jesus:1. Jesus is your savior, but not your Lord. The word Lord in the New Testament means "master."Matthew 28:19-20 NLT The main marker of a disciple of Jesus is obedience. You do what He says to do because He is in charge—not you.James 1:22-24 Jesus becomes your savior as He becomes your Lord. God doesn't want to only be your crisis manager, but He wants to be your daily planner. 2. Jesus wants to make you comfortable and happy. God is the God of comfort but there is a difference between being comforted and being comfortable. You need comfort because you won't always be comfortable!Acts 14:22 NLTGod's goal for your life is not a life of luxury, but a life of maturity.Your happiness is not as important as your holiness because holiness is what makes you truly happy.God will do things for you. But God is not as interested in what He can do FOR you, as He is in what He can do IN you and THROUGH you. 3. Jesus helps you achieve your dreams, even though you don't help Him achieve His.You exist to make God's dreams come trueEphesians 1:5 NLT2 Peter 3:9 NLT 4. Your approach to Jesus is transactional, not relational.Christian gold diggers are just after the streets of gold. They want to go heaven, but they don't want a King. Psalm 91:1 NLT Everyone wants God for their protection, but not every one wants to make God their priority.Too many Christians are "shacking up" with Jesus. They want benefits from him, without commitment to him. When we do this we are using God for what He can do, not loving Him for who He is. There are too many green card Christians who are using Jesus to gain citizenship in Heaven.American Jesus is transactional, the real Jesus is relational. Who do you say that He is? Do you worship American Jesus?

Paul Johnson analyzes the recent Republican debate from the view point of an independent voter, that featured former Vice President Mike Pence, Vivek Ramaswamy, Chris Christie, Ron Desantis and Nikki Haley. Paul's observations touch upon the status quo of U.S. politics, the influence of a small minority population on partisan primaries, the importance of states like Iowa and New Hampshire, the present state of America, as well as upon conversations about abortion and foreign policy. Today's episode is a commentary on what Paul refers to as the “exceptional” recent Republican debate. There are key commonalities among independents: they register as unaffiliated because they don't want to be identified as a group, and they like candidates that aren't afraid to buck their own party. Regardless of their vast differences they personify individualism. Paul played the answer given by the candidates about whether they would support Donald Trump as U.S. President even if he was convicted of a crime. Paul spoke about why a majority of candidates had to say yes. Paul reviewed how 44% of Americans registered as an independent, leaving about 60% split 30-30 between Democrats and Republicans. He illustrated how with less than 35% turnouts in the primary, it generally leaves about 8% of all Amercians who will vote in either primary. This gives a disproportional voice on both sides to voters who are more extreme. Candidates have no choice but to abide by this reality. Paul illustrates in congressional and legislative races, 70% of the districts have been gerrymandered to the point that there is no competition in the general election. This means that 70% of our congress is elected by less than 8% of the American voters. In the Presidential race it is still less than 8% of the voters who select the nominee of each party. After they have made the case to these more extreme voters in the primary, it can be hard to pivot. This leaves candidates and the parties to convince you that they are not as bad as the guy in the other party instead of creating an inspirational message of where we should go. Paul pointed out in this debate how some of the candidates bucked this trend. Paul discussed how from his experience working in Presidential campaigns, one of these candidates could upset the front runner Trump through winning Iowa, a caucus state or New Hampshire. Paul reviewed why Vivek Ramaswamy originally was attractive to independents. He wrote in his book Nation of Victims, how Trump represented a victim state, but did a 180-degree reverse on his position during the Republican debate. Sycophancy in this election is a valid strategy. If a candidate believes Trump may lose his criminal trials and was somehow not able to finish the primary, being his defender could cause his voters to shift to the defender – Paul explains why. Vice President Mike Pence is seen as a “coward” by both the left and the right. Paul points to the role he played by maintaining the constitution and not overturning the election, and will be seen by many independents as someone who actually did something heroic. Paul touches upon the role and approach Iowa and New Hampshire tend to have and how they will impact the upcoming presidential elections. The foreign policy part of the Republican debate is something that really caught Paul's attention. Paul plays several comments by candidates laying out dramatic views of America's role in the world. Paul unpacks the post-World War II ramifications that led the U.S. to become a superpower with plenty of allies worldwide. How this leadership role we played is being challenged by China, Russia, and here at home. Paul reviewed how different candidates approached describing problems: some using fear, others using inspiration. Paul countered some of the candidates' dark views of America. He believes that there isn't any better place to be today than the U.S. He notes that despite making up less than 5% of the world's population, the U.S. makes up over 31% of the world's global wealth and 35% of the world's innovation. In this Say Yes to Holiness podcast 1:1 Conversation, Christina sits down with Terry Poplava of ACS Technologies to speak about the results from the latest survey done concerning American religious beliefs. The survey was a national research initiative conducted by ACS Technologies, and the results grant us insight into the religious preferences and practices of Amercians that are especially valuable for helping us share the Good News with those around us. Our conversation also touched upon Terry's own faith journey and how what he has learned through his work has impacted how he lives as a disciple of Christ. The American Beliefs Study: Religious Preferences and Practicesis groundbreaking research initially conducted in 2013 and then repeated in 2017 and 2021 with over 45,000 participants. This decade-long timespan and significant polling size sample have established The American Beliefs Study as a recognized leader in understanding American religious preferences and practices. Valuable insights that reveal changing behaviors and social and moral attitudes and trends within communities of faith have been distilled into a series of unique discoveries and conclusions. Long-form articles are the American Belief Reports. And the short-form quotes and highlights for quick use. The full study is also integrated in MissionInsite, providing foundational propriety value to this demographic community intelligence software tool. A leader in church management software, market expertise, and data analysis for the last 45 years, ACS Technologies conducted this research by examining the theological beliefs of Americans. The goal was to provide church leaders with the wisdom they need to prepare, guide and quicken them to be as effective as they can be in living out the Gospel. The same Biblical book, which is the last book of the New Testament, presents the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (the final destruction of the world) in a terrifying vision that is often understood as referring to the end times. First there is “a white horse, and its rider had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.” The second horse is “bright red; its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth, so that men should slay one another; and he was given a great sword.” Then follows “a black horse, and its rider had a balance in his hand,” apparently for the rationing of food in a time of famine. Finally, there is “a pale horse, and its rider's name was Death, and Hades followed him; and they were given power over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by wild beasts of the earth.” (Revelation 6:1-8) The four horses and four afflictions, conquest, war, famine, and pestilence, neatly encapsulate the administration of Joe Biden. ..... _________________________________ Find them near you, at iHeart Radio: http://www.armstrongandgettyradio.com Contact Armstrong & Getty via TWITTER: https://twitter.com/AandGShow https://youtu.be/tYx1gkkZ668 YouGov Poll: People Are Clueless 55 views Mar 17, 2022 Sean Giordano 13.1K subscribers Armstrong and Getty read from the YouGov Poll (https://tinyurl.com/5n6vwyzh) which starts out by noting: __________ .... When people's average perceptions of group sizes are compared to actual population estimates, an intriguing pattern emerges: Amercians tend to vastly overestimate the size of minority groups. This holds for sexual minorities, including the proportion of gays and lesbians (estimate: 30%, true: 3%), bisexuals (estimate: 29%, true: 4%), and people who are transgender (estimate: 21%, true: 0.6%). It also applies to religious minorities, such as Muslim Americans (estimate: 27%, true: 1%) and Jewish Americans (estimate: 30%, true: 2%). I didn't know how to sum up this email and subsequent podcast in anymore of a succinct way then simply: Moving House, Serviced Accommodation Sometimes Sucks and Resident Meetings because that has been the last two weeks of my life. Maybe… now I'm reflecting on the podcast I just recorded, all of the chaos happened with my US portfolio and I'm just not used to dealing with Amercians and I'm a fish out of water. What I can confirm is that: Hosting an Air BnB in the US seems to come with more demands from ‘local' guests who want 5* hotel standard or their money back.... But not before blowing your whole electricity board and blaming you because they didn't read the instructions Apparently when storing furniture, its usual for it to leave storage looking like someone just beat it with a baseball bat. And yes, Parks and Recreation is actually based on real life stories of what goes on at residents meetings… there is armed police in attendance and yes residents do shout at each other as well as the local area leaders. Although I could not gather why both of these things happened because we were discussing a 100ft x 100ft patch of grass (I've learnt in my property journey to not sweat the small stuff! So gawd knows why this was such a contentious issue, I only went to try and get to know my neighbours, now I know who to stay well clear of) If you want to hear about this, you seriously are going to have to listen to the podcast, I'll explain in detail! I would also love for you to reply to this email and tell me about your resident meetings and also what your Serviced Accommodation cancellation policy is (especially with Omicron doing the rounds and guests cancelling last minute!) We've grown tremendously here at American Snippets and we've come a very long way since our first interviews. We've made a lot of changes but one thing we have not changed is the caliber of people we bring to you as our guests. Our guests vary in platforms, net worth, networks, backgrounds, and other ways. One thing they all have in common, though, is their inspiration and exemplification of America's core values. We interviewed Cori Salchert way back in Episode #9. Her story continues to inspire us and others today. Cori and her husband Mark have been foster parents for years, bringing children into their home already overflowing with 8 kids of their own. What makes the Salcherts extra special is that they foster and even adopt infants and young children who have been given terminal diagnosis. They love these children and give them the best life they can. Under their care these children thrive in ways doctors didn't believe possible, and live the fullest lives they can. Today the Salcherts have three of these special children in their family.Listen in to snippets of Cori's full interview, to catch nuggets of inspiration and wisdom from everyday Amercians who give everything they have, to serve those who need them.Subscribe To The NewsletterFollow Us On All PlatformsJoin The Great American Syndicate

Trump's being Trump - a loser. All eyes remain on Georgia in comedic fashion. Millions of Amercians are hurting - the usual. But what's the consequence for some people while Washington squabbles about one billion here or another there? A story of Kolbi's interaction with two people digs into that and how we all should start making our political decisions.
But the antiquated Electoral College has many feeling quite rightly that their vote doesn't count. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

161: Kristen Willeumier: Neuroscientist and Author of the book Biohack Your Brain discusses overcoming serious athletic injuries of her own and pushing through to getting her PhD in Neurobiology from UCLA and working to help people fight back against neurological illnesses like Alzheimer’s. Kristen Willeumier As an athlete, what made Kristen Willeumier gravitate towards psychology? “I started getting more interested in the mind through sports. So, when I was at Boston College, I studied psychology. But, I was really interested in continuing the thread of athletics, and the brain, and psychology. I thought I wanted to go into sports psychology, and at the time, which was in the early 90s, there weren’t a lot of sports psychologists. I joined an association for sports psychology, learned more about it. I really wanted to work with athletes and Olympic athletes, helping them improve their mental game.” On this episode of Finding Your Summit Podcast, we talk with Kristen Willeumier, PhD, Neuroscientist and Author of Biohack Your Brain, which is published by HarperCollins Publishers and will be released December 29th, 2020. How does she fill the gap between diseases that exist today and what traditional medicine knows? “Part of the reason why I ended up first doing the Masters Degree and then continuing to do another Masters and PhD in Neurobiology is that I wanted to study a disease that we think is incurable, whether that is Parkinsons, Alzheimer’s.” What You Will Learn: How did Kristen Willeumier get involved in competitive show jumping on horses? “I started riding at the age of 7, and like most parents do with their kids, I was doing gymnastics. I was doing ballet. I was taking classes at the Art Institute. You have your kids trying different things to figure out what they are going to excel at. I happened to go to a riding camp, at Kelly’s Riding Camp, and fell in love with riding horses, and I happened to grow up in a suburb outside of Chicago called Barrington which is essentially horse country.” Kristen Willeumier explains the ‘hunters’ and jumpers’ areas of competitive show jumping. “I started out very naturally doing what we call the ‘hunters.’ For people who aren’t very familiar with the riding industry, we have ‘hunters’ and we have ‘jumpers.’ Hunter competitions are really judged on the horse, and how well you take the horses around the courses. Jumpers are more about not the actual judging of the horse and the rider, but it’s just how quickly you can get over a course of 10 to 12 to 14 fences. You need to jump them clean and you need to jump them for speed.” Did she have her sights set on the Olympics as something you wanted to do? “Absolutely. So, I actually rode for a decade, age 7 all the way to 17. Throughout that time, our family owned five different horses and the kind of training, so I was trained with people who ended up being Olympic show jumpers. Chris Kappler, who went to the Los Angeles Olympics, who is a gold and silver medalist. So, he was training in the barn with us.” Kristen opens up about a very serious injury that she sustained when she was younger riding a pony. “I’ve had so many injuries and accidents. But, the one that is truly the most memorable happened when I was 13 and I was at a local horse show riding Razzmatazz, who was a large pony, dapple gray, large pony, and I was in the children’s adult jumper class. So, the fences are between 3-foot 6 inches and 3-foot 9 inches. I was going around a corner with Lee, and he slipped. So, the show ring was wet. So, he slipped. His backend goes down. I go flying over him. He scrambles to get up and he steps on my chest. My ribs end up puncturing my lungs.” What makes Kristen Willeumier so passionate about her area of neuroscience? “Alzheimer’s disease, 5 million people in the United States have it. It is expected to triple by 2050. We have zero drugs that actually stop Alzheimer’s disease. Zero. I’m going to pivot off of Parkinson’s and go to Alzheimer’s for a minute. Alzheimer’s is 90% preventable by diet and lifestyle, and it is part of the reason why I’m such an advocate for brain health.” Diet Against Alzheimer’s What is a natural way of eating that can fight against getting Alzheimer’s disease? “I’m going to do a Mediteranean Diet that is whole food plant-based. For example, on a day-to-day basis you want to be getting two servings of fresh fruit. Fruits and vegetables are at the core of brain health. First of all, most Amercians aren’t eating two servings of fruits and three servings of greens per day. If anyone is going to make one change today that they can take with them for the rest of their lives, that is probably the number one change.” Biohack Your Brain During this episode of Finding Your Summit Podcast, Kristen Willeumier also talks about the upcoming book that she wrote called Biohack Your Brain. “I basically give people the simple steps that they can do to take care of their brain health now, and a lot of it is the work that I did with professional football players and I give client stories. I talk about my own story. So, I make it really fun. It is loaded with great neuroscience facts, but fun ones, so very easily digestible.” Links to Additional Resources: Mark Pattison: markpattisonnfl.com Emilia’s Everest - The Lhotse Challenge: https://www.markpattisonnfl.com/philanthropy/ Kristen Willeumier website: drwilleumier.com Kristen Willeumier social media: Linkedin Instagram Twitter Facebook
I’m joined today by Noam Lupu, associate professor of political science at Vanderbilt University. Noam has published a terrific new paper with Nicholas Carnes on the white working class and the 2016 presidential election. We cover four widespread claims from the paper made by pundits, commentators, public intellectuals and academics related to Trumps alleged appeal to white working class voters. Do these claims hold up to empirical scrutiny? Is it true: 1) that most Trump voters were white working-class Amercians? 2) that most white working-class voters supported Trump? 3) that unusually large numbers of white working-class voters switched from Obama in 2012 to Trump in 2016? 4) that white working-class voters were pivotal to Trump’s victory in several swing states? Spoiler alert: it turns out that much of this myth-building around Trumps unique appeal to white working class Americans is not really rooted in reality.
