This fateful encounter paved the way for the creation of Saturday Night Special, leaving an indelible mark on Ronnie. Making his live debut at Jacksonville's Sgt Pepper's Club in October 1974, Pyle assumed the role of Skynyrd's drummer following the release of Second Helping, contributing to the band's subsequent four albums, including the legendary Street Survivors. Pyle survived the band's tragic 1977 plane crash that took six lives, including Steve and Cassie Gaines, along with the band's leader, Ronnie Van Zant. "This project has been a year in the making, but when the fans hear it they will understand why it took so long," says Len Snow, Get Joe Records president. "Artimus is legendary within the Southern Rock space. The music that Lynyrd Skynyrd made will always live as a part of rock history. This album honors that music and gives Artimus a way to honor his former bandmates."

He would replace their original drummer (Bob Burns) following the release of the group's second album, Second Helping, and performed with the band and on Skynyrd's subsequent four albums,Nuthin' Fancy, Gimme Back My Bullets, Street Survivors, and their live album, One More for the Road. Pyle was injured but survived the band's 1977 horrific plane crash that abruptly ended the lives of six people, including band members Steve and Cassie Gaines, and most notably, frontman and musical visionary Ronnie Van Zant.In 1979, the band began to reunite, first for the 5th Annual Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam, and eventually, as the Rossington Collins Band (which included all the remaining band members and Pyle, plus Dale Krantz on lead vocals and Barry Lee Harwood on guitar). However, shortly after that, Pyle was in a car accident that broke his leg in 21 places and shattered his hopes of remaining with the group. Pyle spent the next three years healing, both physically and emotionally, before returning to the States and establishing the Artimus Pyle Band (A.P.B.) to honor the music and legacy of Ronnie Van Zant.In 1987, Pyle rejoined his former bandmates to tour and eventually record as Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991, but the experience left him flat. While he deeply loved them, he no longer felt the magic he once did with Van Zant at the helm, nor was he interested in returning to the party lifestyle for which the band was known and stepped away from the group permanently, only to return in 2006 during Lynyrd Skynyrd's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (where he played alongside Bob Burns). Now in his 70s, Pyle still continues to honor Van Zant's musical legacy, recording and touring with the Artimus Pyle Band, now comprised of Pyle (drums), Scott Raines (guitar/vocals), Jerry Lyda (guitar) Brad Durden (keyboards/vocals), and Dave Fowler (bass).https://artimuspyleband.com/https://www.amazon.com/Anthems-Honoring-Music-Lynyrd-Skynyrd/dp/B0CKH9X2WHBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/i-am-refocused-radio--2671113/support.
Drummer Artimus Pyle joined Lynyrd Skynyrd before the band recorded their 3rd album, right as the band's popularity was set to go worldwide...and then just a couple years later, it came to a tragic end in a heavily wooded area in Mississippi.Artimus, miraculously, was one of the survivors of that crash....and eventually started his own band, The Artimus Pyle Band...and now he's assembled names like Sammy Hagar, Ronnie Dunn, Billy Ray Cyrus, Dolly Parton and more to pay tribute to Skynyrd's legacy with a new tribute album!!
This is the interview as heard on the Dial and Deal show on WWAG 107.9fm. Artimus has had a full life in the music industry and shows no signs of quitting anytime soon! In the year of 1974 he was recommended by the legendary Charlie Daniels to the band Lynyrd Skynyrd to take the spot of the original drummer Bob Burns, due to health reasons. Artimus tells the story of his father being killed in a plane crash and after he signed the wrongful death papers on his dad, he put his last dollar in gas to go record the song Saturday Night Special. Many stories are shared in this episode and some were really emotional. The plane crash that took the lives of band members Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, and road manager Dean Kilpatrick has had a big impact on the music scene since that day October 20, 1977. The latest project that Artimus is working on is titled Anthems: Honoring the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd it is a collaboration of the Artimus Pyle Band (A.P.B.) featuring several big name stars in the music industry. Dolly Parton, Sammy Hagar, Marty Raybon, Ronnie Dunn, and Jarrod Niemann, just to name a few! It has been put together with labor and love from the folks at Get Joe Records. Si Motörhead y Queens of the Stone Age de alguna manera tuvieran un hijo ilegítimo juntos, esta sería su banda. Abstract Artimus presenta nuevo single, 'The Gong Is Wrong'. Grabado con el productor de Guided By Voices, Travis Harrison, abundan las vibraciones del himno con su impulso constante y su melodía memorable que recuerda a una comedia de situación de los 90. 'The Gong Is Wrong' es un comentario irónico sobre la relación personal de Artimus con la vida musical mientras exclama: "Get it while the getting's good, eatin' trash out in Hollywood!" Vibraciones pop distintivas superpuestas con guitarras pesadas y voces melancólicas es lo que puedes esperar de esta oferta de un hombre que come, duerme y respira la música que crea.Escuchar audio

A key detail of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash that's been debated by Skynyrd fans everywhere: Was Drummer Artimus Pyle Shot by the farmer, Johnny Mote, when he and two others walked away from the plane crash to get help, or not? In my last video where I deep dived (no pun intended) into the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash, I mentioned that Artimus was shot. In today's episode, we dig even deeper into the local newspapers and interviews that followed immediately after the crash, to put all the pieces together and try to answer the famous question: Was Artimus Pyle Shot or Not. #lynyrdskynyrd #artimuspyle #rootsmusichistory #music #history #podcast #documentary Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash: https://youtu.be/Rfly2U_4FlU ✅Join this channel to get access to perks:
Artimus Pyle was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 as the drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd. His excellent, straight ahead, drumming can be found on 7 of the bands albums. In addition, Artimus has released a handful of solo albums with his Artimus Pyle Band. He was among the survivors of the tragic 1977 plane crash that killed the bands front man - Ronnie Van Zant and others. In Ray White's July of 2023 interview with Artimus, he talked about how he obtained his first name, his time with Skynyrd and his upcoming album. He wrote the documentary movie Steet Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash, that was released in 2020. In our showcase segment we pay tribute to Gary Rossington, Lynyrd Skynyrd's founding member and guitarist/songwriter, who passed away on March 5, 2023. He was the longest surviving original member of the band. Gary also led the Rossington - Collins Band who had a Top 20 Billboard album in 1980 titled Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere, that garnered a Gold Record award. The icons of Southern Rock...we have them on The CAT!

This week we feature an incredible story told by Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash survivor and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Artemis Pyle. Artemis was the drummer for the famed Southern Rock Band. He appeared on four of the original six albums recorded with frontman and founder Ronnie Van Zant before the band's plane went down and crashed on the way to a gig in 1977. You probably recall the tragedy; it made news right around the world as three of the band members and several other passengers were killed that day. Artemis managed to crawl out of the wreckage to get help and his tale of survival is nothing short of chilling Artemis discusses circumstances that led up to the plane crash as well as the moment of impact and what came next. He also tells us about his recently released movie, Street Survivors – The True Story of the Lynrd Skynrd Plane Crash which recreates the story. During our interview Artemis talks about how he got started in the band, how he secured the reputation as the wild man in the group and what it was like playing in front of sold-out crowds around the world. He tells me why he believes the music still holds such appeal and about his ongoing work to honour Steve Van Zant's musical legacy today. It's a fascinating story from a courageous and charismatic man. About the band: Lynyrd Skynyrd is the definitive Southern rock band, fusing the overdriven power of blues-rock with a rebellious Southern image and a hard rock swagger. Skynyrd never relied on the jazzy improvisations of the Allman Brothers. Instead, they were a hard-living, hard-driving rock & roll band. They may have jammed endlessly on-stage, but their music remained firmly entrenched in blues, rock, and country. Throughout the band's early records, frontman ROnnie Van Zant demonstrated a knack for lyrical detail and a down-to-earth honesty. During the height of Skynyrd's popularity in the mid-'70s, they adopted a more muscular and gritty blues-rock sound that yielded the classic rock standards "Sweet Home Alabama," "Simple Man," "What's Your Name," "That Smell," "Gimme Three Steps," and "Free Bird." The group ceased operations after the plane crash in 1977. The band re-formed a decade later with Ronnie's younger sibling Johnny Van Zant on vocals, and guitarist and co-founder Gary Rossington. In 2018, after decades of performing and recording, the band embarked on a farewell tour. Today Artimus Pyle tours with his own band The Artimus Pyle Band to preserve the legacy of Ronnie Van Zant and Lynrd Skynrd. To learn more about Artimus head for his website https://artimuspyleband.com/home/ For more on Lynrd Skynrd today https://www.lynyrdskynyrd.com/ Don't forget if you'd like to request someone you'd like to hear interviewed, just send me a message through my website https://www.abreathoffreshair.com.au I hope you enjoy this episode.
Pray boldly Ephesians 6:19-20 I am concluding the teaching on the armour of God today. We live in a time when people are divided into factions. The message of Ephesians and the gospel is that we are united - not by class, sex or race but at the cross. The whole of Ephesians explains this. Chapter 6 shows us how. By being in Christ, by walking in the truth , by sharing the gospel, by being filled with the Spirit, and knowing our salvation is secure in Christ alone. Paul prays for boldness. Acts tells of Paul's visits and riots in Ephesus.Acts 19:23-31 It was definitely a “here! Hold my coat or toga” moment. Paul is in chains in Rome writing to the Ephesians. They will know that he has been in dangerous situations before and not shied away from confronting injustice and sinful behaviour. Paul prays for Holy Spirit boldness that his words will bring salvation because of the gospel (good news). Why did Paul have to be bold and courageous? What was the culture around at the time. Lesley touched on this a couple of weeks ago. The accepted way for men in the Greek and Roman culture was very much like Harvey Weinstein. They assumed that they could have sexual favours from any woman and even men. Hence the context of the teaching on the roles of men and women and marriage and slaves. Idol worship was part of the economy. They worshipped the gods but also turned leaders like Caesar into gods. Ephesus had the temple to Artimus or Diana and this created such a great deal of money. Ephesus became a banking centre for the region. They went to the temple to worship and sacrifice to Artimus. Paul uses the knowledge of the temple to explain the church and our individual security in Christ in Ephesians 2:19-22What should we draw from these two small verses in scripture? In the context of the whole book we are to be bold to be counter cultural. Although our culture now rails against the behaviour of Harvey Weinstein, it still encourages sex outside marriage as a good thing. Heterosexual or homosexual. Christians should walk a different path not because it is a higher moral way but because that is Gods word and plan. Our culture is very similar to the Greek and Roman culture, worship of money, sexual experience and superstitious false gods. The Ephesian people believed that Artimus had fallen from heaven and they had to give sacrifices to her. Paul preached that God (Jesus) came from heaven to earth by choice, then made himself the sacrifice for us so that we can be seated in heavenly places. Ephesians 2 v 6. Paul taught that you could be seated with Christ but also filled with Christ by his Holy Spirit. All counter cultural points. All were highly contentious. All very relevant for our current culture. How do we apply this?We see the deep divisions being played out in the CofE at the moment. Let us not stand by and carp. There are many very excellent Christians in the CofE. We must stand with them and hear their hearts as they are breaking as many of the leaders go with the culture and against the word of God. PRAY. Pray for ourselves to be as bold as Paul and our brothers and sisters who are being persecuted. It is very likely to be us soon if not happening already. PRAYPray for the evangelists in the church and those support them. Pray that the circumstances that we find ourselves in, God will use for His glory and purposes Pray that we will all know His purpose for us when we go through difficult times.

Acts 19:1-12 (NIV) Read by: Theo Leu As followers of Jesus we were made to live lives that flourish in word, deed, and power. Today's episode features a passage from Acts that introduces us to Paul's work in Ephesus. Now there's a lot that we could say about to open our understanding about the city of Ephesus, but suffice it to say that it was a city of influence both civically and spiritually. Anyone approaching the city as Paul does in today's reading would have seen the temple of the goddess Artimus, which was one of the wonders of the ancient world. Divination and idol worship was a mainstay in Ephesus. And the first thing that Luke wants to tell us about this important city is that Paul finds disciples, but they have only received the baptism of John. These disciples haven't even heard of the Holy Spirit. Imagine, trying to know and follow Jesus without the power of the Holy Spirit working in you! Some of you might actually be able to imagine that, because we come from church traditions that don't emphasize the Holy Spirit, and others can hardly imagine our church experiences without the Holy Spirit. This passage can cause a lot of debates, but today as you listen I want to ask you to consider the ways in which you are living without the full power of the Spirit. Perhaps you are heavy in word, that is scripture and proclamation of truth, or maybe you're strong in deed, serving others and fighting for Justice. But what about power? ----------REFLECT---------- 1. What phrase stuck with you as you heard the passage? 2. The disciples had never even heard of the Holy Spirit, yet they were baptised as people who were trying to follow Jesus. As you think about the ways that you have learned to follow Jesus, are there any areas where you've missed large sections of fundamental teaching? Things that you've never heard of? 3. What areas of your life do you need the power of the Holy Spirit to round out the word and deed portions of your life? How can you make space for God's spirit to come in and bring life to areas that have not moved? Ask Jesus to lead you in this time. ----------GO DEEPER---------- Bible Project: Acts 13-28 Overview >> InterVarsity Press Selections: Acts >> ----------CONNECT---------- Find an InterVarsity Chapter >> Start an InterVarsity Chapter >> Learn More >> --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dailyread/message

Back in 2017, Chaz and AJ interviewed Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle before the Milford Oyster Festival. Since today is the anniversary of the plane crash that killed six people, including Ronnie Van Zant back in 1977, they re-aired this portion of their conversation with Artimus. He remembers so many details from the crash, including a trip through a mile of swamp to find help, only to be shot in the shoulder by a farmer.
When a plane crash in 1977 ended the career of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd, the world lost one of the greatest American rock bands. Skynyrd drummer, Artimus Pyle survived the crash, crawling from the wreckage and saving lives. For the first time, Artimus' story has been brought to the screen in a dramatic recreation that focuses on the band's last few days. To get this film produced, the filmmakers had to navigate a dangerous swamp of lawsuits and litigation. Writer and Director Jared Cohn discusses the courtroom dramas and the stories behind the making of the movie – the highlight being one of the scariest crash sequences ever shot.
