This week, we're sharing an interview with 2 contributors an amazing history of anti-racist organizing in the late 1980's through the mid 1990's in Portland, Oregon, and with ripples across the so-called USA & beyond. In 2020 KBOO radio released a serialized podcast which became the basis for the book. A brief intro to the book can be found below... It Did Happen Here: Podcast Book Instagram Mic Crenshaw: website twitter facebook instagram bandcamp Moe Bowstern Instagram The A-Zone People Mic mentioned who were attacked for being white anti-racists in Pdx: June “T-Rex” Knightly https://heavy.com/news/june-knightly/ Michael Reinhol: https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/michael-reinoehl-antifa-killing-deputies-wont-be-charged-1230943/ Mic Crenshaw was born and raised in Chicago and Minneapolis and currently resides in Portland, Oregon. Crenshaw is an independent hip hop artist, respected emcee, poet, educator, and activist. Crenshaw is the lead US organizer for the Afrikan Hiphop Caravan and uses cultural activism as a means to develop international solidarity related to human rights and justice through hip hop and popular education. Crenshaw was a founding member of the Minneapolis Baldies and Anti Racist Action. He was a coproducer and narrator of the podcast version of It Did Happen Here. Moe Bowstern is a alum of the anarchist space in Chiacgo known as the @-zone that lasted from 1993 to 2003. She's also a writer, laborer, Fisher Poet, and DIY social practice artist. Moe is the longtime editor of many publications, including the commercial fishing zine Xtra Tuf. She contributed to the writing of the book version of It Did Happen Here and lives in Portland, OR. For the hour, we talk about the book and podcast, the reach, the resonance to anti-racist struggle today in Portland and beyond. We also talk about the toll of the violence faced and engaged by folks pushing back the organized white supremacy of the day, police and institutional violence and other, related topics. If you would like people featured in this book to come and speak at your institution, you can reach them at ItDidHappenHerePodcast at gmail dot com, through PM Press, or via the IDHH instagram. This book was published by PM Press as a part of the Working Class History series. Another featured title in that series that was recently released was a similar documentary history with a really good narrative on the history of Anti-Racist Action in the 1990's and early 2000's throughout the midwest of Turtle Island, both in so-called Canada and the USA, and bits of other areas. Hopefully we'll feature a chat with one of the contributors to that book entitled We Go Where They Go: The Story of Anti-Racist Action soon on this show. . ... . .. Our first premiere of the week starts off with a thump as PETDuo feature on Purgatory's first release with a high octane hard techno techno anthem. The Brazilian duo have supplied a rapacious peak time track, with slamming low end, tortuous synth lines and crisped looping grooves. Irish techno party Purgatory launches its first chapter as a label with a hard hitting VA of angry techno. Purgatory was born in Berlin with the aim of hosting tough as nails techno parties with avant-garde acts from across Europe and Ireland. Purgatory has hosted heavy hitters Dave Clarke, Chlär, Echoes Of October, Illnurse, Cailín, Jamie Behan & more across Berlin, Manchester & Galway. The party & label celebrates its year anniversary of ferocious techno, with the birth of the label which features act's from Ireland and further ashore, which keeps in line with labels ethos. Among the bill of producers on the VA is Cailín, Richie Corrigan, D. Carbone, Aero, Myler, Felix6ood & Pet Duo. Our second feature of the VA comes from Brazillian hard techno pairing, PETDuo. The formidable duo have been hugely influential in the hard techno scene over the years, spreading their sound across seminal parties, clubs and festival such as, Love Parade, I Love Techno, TimeWarp, Awakenings and countless others. The pair have also worked alongside some of techno's most influential characters in the world of hard, tough and straight up banging techno such as, Miss Djax, Svetec, Ben Long, O.B.I., Alex TB and Malke. Since forming on 1997 PetDuo have undoubtedly made their mark on hard techno and have released on Hydraulix, Audio Assault, their own imprints Cause Records, PHONK! Records, D & A Music & a host of others. PETDuo's contribution to the Purgatory VA show's the pair at the hardest and raviest as they blend an amalgamation of churning synths, groveling bass and hammering bass drums. This hard techno done properly, as the duo tell a story of peak time warehouse techno. We can see this getting played a lot over the summer. We begin a whopping week of premieres with an equally tremendous track from one of Ireland's greatest techno producers in the countries history. We're delighted to give you the first glance at Fran Hartnett's most recent project on one of Dublin's finest techno label's within the last decade, RLSD. Only a handful of Irish techno producers have been able to create an enigma quite like Fran Hartnett. With just over a handful of releases to his name, the Dublin based techno arbiter has crafted a legacy that still percolates and influences newer generation while also galvanising Dublin techno mainstays. Releases on formative techno labels such as Audio Assault, Plector & User Experience have cemented Hartnett's name as straight up Dublin techno legend. Tracks like ‘It Was Written In Vapour' and ‘Game Code' from his Audio Assault EP remain authoritative techno tracks that rest alongside some of techno's most celebrated names on Audio Assault. One of Dublin's illustrious hardware junkies not only rests beside lionised techno figures but has released on the same 12 inch as many of them, including; Stanislav Tolkachev, Charlton, Sleeparchive, Joe Farr and now Radial also known as Jeroen Liebregts. For Fran's second appearance on RLSD he returns with a four track record comprised of FM techno righteousness. From wonky broken thrillers, to straight four to the floor functional deepness, a live excerpt that is simply analogue heaven & the record is complete with a remix from Audio Assault co-founder, Radial. Today we premiere ‘Wake', which encapsulates Fran's groove that has become synonymous with the Dublin producer. Scowling synths move assiduously through the track as the main leads warps and excogitate. The track hardware madness and is a telescopic look at what Fran has been conjuring in the studio. This record is a tip of the hat remembering the memorable & pushing the techno sound into its welcomed, evolved soundscape. As a whole this 12″ Brings a new dimension to FM techno & solidifies the next wave of Dark & driving Techno. Radial is the main pseudonym of Jeroen Liebregts from The Netherlands. Jeroen has been djing since '98 and picked up music production soon after. Since 2002 Jeroen teamed up with Bas Mooy and started the label Audio Assault as a platform for their own work and that of artists whose work they admire. Today, 11 years later, label is still running strong with over 40 vinyl releases and counting. Always driven to dive deeper, Jeroen started a 4-year studies of Sonology at the Conservatory in The Hague, which he finished in 2006. This study deals with electronic music composition, computer programming, analog synthesis and electronic instrument design among other things. This is probably what kickstarted his interest to use self designed instruments in his music. The constant quest for new technological approaches is an imported factor that helped shape his sound. His current tendency toward analog hardware based methods also resulted in his involvement in the design and development of the Synton Fenix modular synthesizer. Over the years the music of Jeroen Liebregts has found it's way to many places using different aliases. There have been releases of original tracks and remixes on labels such as Token, Perc-Trax, Mote-Evolver, Numb, Drumcode, Planet Rhythm, Audio Assault and most recently Mord. Jeroen Liebregts aka Radial, is without doubt a gigantic stone in the modern techno industry with numerous of legendary productions and gigs at the best record labels and clubs. MORD's Berlin-based diamond. Charlton, was born in 1982 in Rotterdam (Netherlands). At the age of 17 he began chasing the early rave parties which were happening all over Holland and around 1999 his love for electronic music turned into an obsession and he started DJing. It was around this time that Charlton first came face to face with techno. He started producing abd building up his unique sound in 2001. Boosted by the Electronic Music Productions study he took at one of Holland’s best known music production colleges, he started putting his work together for his first live PA, which debuted in 2004. 12 years later we see him playing regularly at the purest underground events all over the world, being a resident artist of the powerful label MORD with mind-blowing EPs and as well their nights at Berghain, and also being part of labels like Audio Assault, Krill and the unforgettable M_Rec. Following the slow and deep brew of the last episode, our 60th mix comes as an ever-cerebral and purely sonic adventure by one of the most celebrated duos in techno today , WOO YORK. The next hour is the recording from when they performed live at NextSound Festival (an all-live acts and advanced music/arts festival) alongside Byetone from Raster-Noton, held at the underground Closer Club in their hometown of Kiev, Ukraine, last month. This live performance was one of its kind as it explores live sound arrangement and manipulation (100% improvised), which is the concept and setup they specialize at the moment, aspiring to take it even further. We are truly humbled by the opportunity of hosting these amazing and very talented guys on this special occasion and releasing this extremely organic and experimental live session. Production-wise, their Grad EP released mid-last year was received exceptionally well, which included superb remixes by Jeroen Search, Deepbass, and Ness (all past guests in this series). For this year, they already have a slew of 12" planned across Soma (first one coming out this month), Audio Assault, and Fullpanda. Aside from keeping themselves busy in the studio, they plan to continue performing their refined live-act while creating new sounds and textures. With this said, we hope you enjoy the following 55 minutes of mind-blowing, abstract, futuristic music as much as we do. We don't usually receive extended sets, but when we do, they are stellar; and this one certainly makes it among the top of the list if we must be honest. Hailing from Rotterdam, with many years of tenure, and impeccable releases on Perc Trax, Mote Evolver, Gynoid, Blank Code and his own Audio Assault and the brand new Mord (read RA feature), we are extremely proud to present BAS MOOY. Between his private life and busy touring schedule, he was kind enough to weave together an stunning, top-of-the-class, and exclusive 2-hour journey for us, which we couldn't be any more grateful for it. We have no doubt you will think the same. There really is not much else to say on this one except to let the music speak for itself. Just keep in mind that his inaugural release on Mord, Linea Recta, is inside, and it's outstanding. NightVision Techno PODCAST by Sade Rush

Christian Wünsch (MON) - NightVision Techno PODCAST 25 Pt. 2 Bio: Christian Wünsch has been in contact with music ever since he was a young boy: thanks to the influence of his elder sisters he discovered the darkest pop of the eighties, as well as goth rock, punk and new wave. This influence was to stay with him for the years to come, when he moved to Nottingham. In Rock City, one of the city’s most famous live music venues, he enjoyed many live performances by the bands that had meant so much to him: New Model Army, The Mission, Ramones, Joolz, Sisters of Mercy and so on. But it wasn’t until he returned to Spain in the early nineties that he came to be fully in contact with electronic music. Back in those days and thanks to Madrid’s nightlife and clubs like Attica, Christian experimented the curious fusion of all his previous dark rock influences with the most combative electronic music in the form of EBM. This had a huge impact on him and lead him to take a step in the right direction and become the star, rather than a mere spectator. In order to gain a qualification in sound, he moved back to the United Kingdom and it was there and then that he discovered the sound of Techno at its most basic stages. Whilst he studied, he started looking for second hand equipment and created his own home studio; first with a primitive Roland tr 505 rhythm composer and a Novation Basstation synth. Not long after that, he got hold of an old Atari 1040 computer, a relic that included two Midi ports; he also acquired a few more bits of equipment and started to produce music in a more serious way. Following a period getting to know the machines, he released for the first time under the name of Metal Artefakt with Rhythm of time, a label based in Madrid that was amongst the first ones in Spain to release techno records, back in 1997. That same year, his demo was selected for Sónar 97; his gig at the festival was his second ever live performance. The first work he released under his own name saw the light thanks to SYL:Label, a label that belonged to an important Birmingham distributor, Integrale Muzique, under de direction of Regis, a young Karl O’konnor. After he listened to Christian’s demo, he proposed to him that he should have his own label in the platform, and so he released several records with them. Back then, his distinctive energetic and cyclic techno already featured within his sound palette and included a subliminal Soul component that later on developed to become his trademark. Having released his records on other labels, early in the year 2000 he decided to create his own, Tsunami Records, which is still active nowadays. Soon after he also created Nine, and with time both labels have become a symbol for the purest and most militant techno. Aside from what he has released with Tsunami and Nine, Wünsch has released over 50 records in labels from all around the globe, such as Theory, Sheep, Music Man or Audio Assault, just to name the most prominent. Aside from his releases, the onstage version of Christian is committed to live performances and to taking his personal view of techno to the best dance floors of the planet, whether clubs or festivals, in countries such as Germany, Hungary, Holland, Belgium, England, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Malta, France, Slovenia, Austria, Brazil, USA or Japan, amongst others. At present, he is a member of the PoleGroup platform, together with Oscar Mulero, Exium, Reeko and Architectural; in this respect, he has been releasing excellent pieces of work alongside his Selección Natural companions, as well as the fantastic False Flag EP, release number 8 of the group. After a period of calm and reorganisation, 2012 will see Christian getting back on the saddle in order to revitalise Tsunami, making a new release with PoleGroup and polishing up his live act so as to put sound systems from around the world to the test. Aside from operating on his own, he’s also an active part of the Work Out project, a new alternative within the techno live dj set concept. Brought to you by Christian Wünsch and Oscar Mulero, both in terms of form and musical content, these sets combine the most up to date and futuristic sounds with the most classical influences of techno and electronic music in general. A choice two-hour musical revision in the shape of a dj set, featuring also a lot of unreleased material by both artists, as well as new versions of previously released tracks, which gives WorkOut! a personal and made to measure feel. Both the musical concept and the performance are designed to be flexible and modified to suit the needs of large events or clubs, or even the smallest of venues. Kai-zen Podcast - Regular top guest DJ's playing Deep House, Tech & Techno. Tracklist unavailable at time of broadcast. Swedish DJ/producer Mattias Fridell has been actively involved in the techno scene since the 1990s, inspired early on by EDM and the developing techno movement in Sweden. In 2000 Fridell's first record, cut with Alexander Johansson, was released and it garnered the duo a reputation as two of the more promising producers to look out for. Their music was subsequently played by some of the highest profile DJs as well as noted by Calle Dernulf—a radio guru in Sweden who has been pushing techno and house music to the masses. From there Fridell and Johansson they released their music on a succession of classic and legendary labels such as Audio Assault, ARMS and XXX Records. When Johansson decided to take a six year break from electronic dance music, Mattias Fridell kept right on going. For nearly a decade he's released quality techno and other forms of electronic dance music, working along the way with a growing number of respected labels and artists. In 2010 Fridell teamed up with techno icon Glenn Wilson to create throbbing music and also launch the label project Tonal Path. He's also collaborated with other producers from around the world and succeeded in re-introducing his old collaborator Alexander Johansson to the techno scene—they're now as strong as ever in their partnership. While constantly implementing new ideas and retaining his signature sound, Mattias is always inspired to work several directions within dance music's deep maze of rabbit holes. From starting out in the '90s delivering the sound of authentic Swedish techno, his musical journey took him through a variety of musical twists. Along the way he's salvaged everything from hard techno to classic Detroit-inspired beats, down to a minimalistic approach as well as the work that defines his sound today: the dark, deep, industrial tones and rich, deep dubby flavourswith lots of erosion and a smattering of dirt. Working against the trends, but assimilating slices he likes along the way, Fridell will carry on producing his unique, innovative vibes.
