Slap bang in the middle of their Aus/NZ tour, we caught up with The Murder Capital! Joining Luke Scanlan in conversation is bassist, Gabriel Blake. After waiting years to finally play to fans in the region, Gabriel speaks of what it means to give fans a taste of tunes from across their three albums: When I Have Fears, Gigi's Recovery and Blindness Plus, why he thinks albums – also referred to as ‘records' – can be taken as a true record of your life at the time of release. Find out what it was like to step up a gear and work with Grammy-winning producer, John Congleton. The guy has only worked with global names such as Phoebe Bridgers, Nelly Furtado, The War on Drugs, Bono, Sigur Ros, Bombay Bicycle Club… no big deal, right?! Gabriel opens up on the moment that Irish music is having right now, with The Murder Capital and Fontaines DC both touring the APAC region in 2025. Plus, he gives his thoughts on the pride in Irishness emanating from KNEECAP and what it was like to play alongside them at festivals in their early days. And…. The Murder Capital's early days. What was it like to fly the post-punk flag and burst onto the scene at the same time as Fontaines and shame? A huge episode. One you cannot miss!
Are you unknowingly missing key nutrients in your diet? Dr Carlene Starck joins us to break down her Priority Nutrients research, revealing the vitamins and minerals Australians and New Zealanders are lacking. From energy to immune health, these hidden micronutrient inadequacies could be holding you back. Tune in to find out what your diet might be missing—and how to fix it!We cover: 3:00 Why this research was undertaken 6.00 Common nutrient inadequacies in Aus/NZ 8.00 Protein intake target - should it be higher? 9:45 Are the Nutrient Reference Values (NRVs) outdated? 11:45 Nutrients that have Suggested Dietary Targets (SDTs) 13:15 Methodological approach of the research 29:10 Key findings from the research31:30 Vitamin D deficiency in Aus/NZ32:30 Calcium targets, absorption and what do we know to be true about calcium and bone health and calcium and fractures. 39:20 Calcium bioavailability - how is this researched? 41:00 How to get vitamin D from food?45:00 How and when to get your vitamin D status assessed 47:30 Omega-3 intake 50:00 Interesting omega-3 findings 51:30 Adult men - the forgotten group? 53:10 Teenagers - 15 inadequate nutrients! 54:00 Findings in females 19-45 years 56:20 How to know if you are not getting enough of certain vitamins and minerals?60:00 How does exercise impact vitamin and mineral needs?62:45 How can someone maintain healthy eating habits while still enjoying what they eat? 65:45 How can your research findings be used in the real world? One-liners you don't want to miss:“We know that calcium intake is low, what we didn't know was just how low and how severe that inadequacy was.” “It looks like higher intakes of vitamin C are really beneficial of 150-200mg/day. It doesn't sound very much when you can go and buy vitamin C tablets which are 1000mg/day but the key with that is our body can't absorb all of that at one time.”“People are only over-consuming in nutrients of concern.”“How we live, where we live, our lifestyles, our overall diet composition, how much exercise we are doing; all of these things really effect magnesium intake.” “Your body is not going to run out of calcium in terms of your blood levels. But what happens is when you don't have enough calcium in your blood it will start to leach out of your bones.” “Vitamin D intake will help to decrease fracture risk. We need sufficient vitamin D to make sure we can adequately absorb calcium.” “Iron, vitamin D, calcium and the omega-3s, if you are exercising and very active. If you are concerned about priority nutrients those are the four. The other one that is also highlighted is selenium, that's because it has antioxidant function. Selenium and vitamin E also work together, so getting both of these in.”ReferenceStarck CS, Cassettari T, Beckett E, Marshall S, Fayet-Moore F. A former Aussie Home Affairs secretary is calling for New Zealand to get rid of our nuclear-free policy and sign up to Orcus. Former Australian Home Affairs Secretary Michael Pezzullo says the chances of a conflict with China mean New Zealand and Australia should be working together to create a combined military force. "Our defence are probably several decades old, and in this highly disrupted world, everything is changing at such a great rate that we just need to re-examine everything," he said. Former Australian Home Affairs Secretary Michael Pezzullo talks to Ryan Bridge. LISTEN ABOVE. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

No you are not seeing things! If you had told me at any point in the last 30 years that I would get to play b2b with the person that made so much of the music that I played back in 97/98 I'd have maybe peeeeeeed laughing. With over 350 releases under his belt and over 950 DJ gigs around the world there is no doubt Jeremy Sylvester is one of the godfathers of UK garage.Jeremy is a DJ who is capable of covering a vast repertoire of styles, blending them into one sound that has become synonymous and identifiable to him as a DJ. Combining a mix of deep house/garage, classic 90's style house, deep tech and jacking with a bit of old skool 4×4 garage thrown in for good measure, Jeremy's diversity and sheer panache is second to none. His cool DJ sets are known for twisting the dance floor into a sexy melange of movement before letting loose into a filthy beat, Jeremy knows what the crowd want, and he knows how to give it to them. What is crazy is that Jeremy's USB's wouldn't load, so he had to use my music!! Any DJs out there can sympathise. The upside though was that I had a folder full of Nice 'n' Ripe and one full of Jeremy's unreleased tracks from over the years! So what you end up with is a rare classic UKG set from the man that produced half of it back in the day.Perfect!Massive thank you to Jeremy for agreeing to come on the show while on holiday down here in Sydney as part of his first Aus/NZ tour.Tracklisting to follow (once I work out what we played!)Enjoy!

In this episode, we sit down with @thabisosibanda New Zealand-based creative and entrepreneur who is making waves with his work on @unpacknz x @phdunpacked x @coalescenz podcasts & online platforms. We speak with Thabi about career, his trip to Melbourne, and the ways in which the new generations of young people of colour are shaping the conversation around creativity and entrepreneurship in Aus & NZ. We also unpack another dilemma sent in by one of our listeners about situationships and the ‘boyfriend experience'.
We discuss the last weeks GC events in Australia and New Zealand from a far-Left anti-fascist perspective. With the help of quotes from Adorno, Sartre, and Lenin, we think through some of the issues that have arisen within gender critical feminism around this question of working with the rightwing and the tarring of women as being 'associated' with the far-right. Is the term neo-Marxism an antisemitic dog whistle? What do actual anti-fascist protests tend to look like? And why do Speak Outs for women cut at the heart of patriarchy?
