In this episode of Podcast Under the Stairs, we turn our attention to the sci-fi horror-comedy Cold Storage, a fast-paced, fungus-fuelled creature feature packed with B-movie thrills, dark humour, and plenty of gloopy gore. Blending elements of horror, comedy and sci-fi, the film comes from writer David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man) and director Jonny Campbell (Dracula), delivering a high-energy genre mash-up that's as chaotic as it is entertaining.STUDIOCANAL bring Cold Storage to home audiences with a Home Premiere release on 6th April 2026, where it will be available to buy or rent digitally. This is followed by a physical release on 11th May 2026, landing on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD. For collectors, there's also a limited HMV Exclusive 4K edition, featuring alternate artwork and a set of four art cards, capped at just 1,000 copies. As a special bonus, this episode also features an exclusive interview with director Jonny Campbell. We chat about bringing Cold Storage to the screen, working with such a strong cast, navigating tone in horror-comedy, and his journey as a filmmaker leading up to this release. The grading follows the Netflix rating style of 1 = Hated It, 2 = Didn't Like It, 3 = Liked It, 4 = Really Liked It & 5 = Loved ItCold Storage:Duncan: 3Thanks to Studio Canal & Fetch PR for the review copy of this movie and setting up the interview with Johnny Campbell. Our new RSS Feed: https://anchor.fm/s/13ba6ef0/podcast/rssCheck out the show on Anchor, iTunes, TuneIn & on Stitcher Radio. Please leave us feedback on iTunes, podcastunderthestairs@gmail.com and follow us on Facebook.TIMECODE COLD STORAGE REVIEW00:00:00 Intro 00:02:52 Interview with Johnny Campbell00:16:05 Cold Storage Review00:25:27 Closing

Duncan is back looking at one of the most overlooked entries in the Hammer Film Productions catalogue. Demons of the Mind (1972) has steadily grown in reputation as a bold, unsettling and genuinely ambitious piece of gothic horror. Directed by Peter Sykes and written by Christopher Wicking, the film trades traditional monsters for psychological decay, repression and inherited madness. Robert Hardy delivers a powerhouse performance as the deeply disturbed Baron Zorn, supported by the volatile energy of Shane Briant and Gillian Hills, with Patrick Magee adding a layer of intensity that pushes the film into darker territory. Dismissed on release, it's now widely appreciated by fans for its ambition—its striking visuals, uncomfortable themes and willingness to push Hammer beyond its comfort zone. This new Collector's Edition gives the film a long-overdue reappraisal with a brand-new 4K Dolby Vision restoration that highlights its rich, atmospheric cinematography. Packed with both new and archival extras, it's a comprehensive release for collectors and newcomers alike. Features include: 4K UHD & Blu-ray discsNew 4K Dolby Vision restorationMultiple audio commentariesNew featurettes including Evil In the Blood & Blood Will Have BloodInterviewsStills and lobby card galleriesTrailer64-page booklet with essays and original press materialBrand-new artwork Two posters & a release date of 6th April 2026.The grading follows the Netflix rating style of 1 = Hated It, 2 = Didn't Like It, 3 = Liked It, 4 = Really Liked It & 5 = Loved ItDemon's of the Mind:Duncan: 4.5Thanks to Studio Canal & Fetch PR for the review copy of this movie. Our new RSS Feed: https://anchor.fm/s/13ba6ef0/podcast/rssCheck out the show on Anchor, iTunes, TuneIn & on Stitcher Radio. Please leave us feedback on iTunes, podcastunderthestairs@gmail.com and follow us on Facebook.TIMECODE DEMON'S OF THE MIND BLURAY REVIEW00:00:00 Intro 00:04:04 Unboxing00:05:10 Demon's of the Mind Review00:10:48 Special Features00:16:37 Closing

Duncan is back to review a late-era entry from Hammer Film Productions, Blood from the Mummy's Tomb which stands apart from the studio's earlier monster-led formula by reworking classic Mummy lore through a more psychological and intriguingly subversive lens. Directed by Seth Holt and based on a story by Bram Stoker, the film shifts the horror inward centred on identity, possession, and female power. Arriving during a period of declining commercial success for Hammer, the film didn't redefine the studio's fortunes, but has since earned recognition as one of its more unusual and thematically rich horrors. This new Collector's Edition brings the film to 4K for the first time with a brand-new Dolby Vision restoration, offering a strong presentation of one of Hammer's more visually distinctive late-period releases. Directed by Jimmy Sangster, this psychological chiller leans heavily on atmosphere and performance, with Judy Geeson delivering a genuinely gripping turn as a woman unsure whether she's being hunted or losing her grip on reality. Supported by the ever-reliable Peter Cushing and a quietly enigmatic Joan Collins, the film stands as one of Hammer's more unusual experiments—less iconic, perhaps, but rich in tension and worth rediscovery. This new Collector's Edition from Studio Canal marks the film's worldwide 4K debut, giving Sangster's eerie, stripped-back thriller a fresh lease of life. The release includes a brand-new 4K restoration presented on both 4K UHD and Blu-ray, alongside a strong set of extras and physical additions for collectors. In 1995, a single 30-something woman with big knickers and blue soup first appeared in a weekly column, published by British newspaper The Independent.Initially written anonymously by journalist Helen Fielding, Bridget Jones quickly became a cultural icon, as she tried to make sense of life and love. The book, Bridget Jones's Diary, became a best-seller in 1996 and the character has gone on to feature in three more books and four films. Although, some people don't agree with Bridget's obsession with her size and men, her relatability is a hit with many. Bridget's creator Helen Fielding looks back, with Megan Jones, at how one column, published 30 years ago, turned into a cultural phenomenon. Clips featured in the programme are from the film, Bridget Jones's Diary. The production companies behind it were Working Title Films, Universal Pictures, Miramax and StudioCanal. It was directed by Sharon Maguire. Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes every day, we take you back in time and all over the world, to examine wars, coups, scientific discoveries, cultural moments and much more. Recent episodes explore everything from the death of Adolf Hitler, the first spacewalk and the making of the movie Jaws, to celebrity tortoise Lonesome George, the Kobe earthquake and the invention of superglue. We look at the lives of some of the most famous leaders, artists, scientists and personalities in history, including: Eva Peron – Argentina's Evita; President Ronald Reagan and his famous ‘tear down this wall' speech; Thomas Keneally on why he wrote Schindler's List; and Jacques Derrida, France's ‘rock star' philosopher. You can learn all about fascinating and surprising stories, such as the civil rights swimming protest; the disastrous D-Day rehearsal; and the death of one of the world's oldest languages.(Photo: Helen Fielding at a book signing. Victoria Beckham is no stranger to headlines. And now she's revealed that intense media scrutiny led to her developing an eating disorder. Cue more headlines. One particular article stood out, which asked why those around Victoria - including her PR team - didn't seem to address the problem at the time. This week, David Yelland and Simon Lewis look at what this tells us, not just about Victoria Beckham's story, but the delicate line that people in the world of PR must tread when they are dealing with a client facing a highly sensitive and personal issue. How do you discuss the elephant in the room?On the extended edition on BBC Sounds, we're on the comeback trail. Three-time Olympic dressage gold medallist Charlotte Dujardin has begun a very low-key return to her sport after serving a ban for 'excessively' whipping a horse. So far, she's not given any interviews. But is that sustainable - and what are the PR options for trying to return to the spotlight after a scandal? Also, it's never a good idea to wind up a bear. Especially one from Darkest Peru with a serious marmalade habit. But that's what the makers of Spitting Image have done. The Michael Bond estate and Studio Canal - who make the Paddington films - are taking legal action after the much-loved bear was depicted as a drug-taking, foul-mouthed beast in a YouTube series. Time for David and Simon to sit down with Paddington and offer some reputational repair work.Producer: Duncan Middleton Editor: Sarah Teasdale Executive Producer: Eve Streeter Music by Eclectic Sounds A Raconteur Studios production for BBC Radio 4

Today on the show we have Emmanuel Oberg. Emmanuel is a screenwriter, author and script consultant with more than twenty years of experience in the Film and TV industry. After selling his first project to Warner Bros as a co-writer, he went on to be commissioned by StudioCanal and Gold Circle before writing solo for Working Title / Universal and Film4.He has also designed an internationally acclaimed 3-day Advanced Development Workshop - based on the Story-Type Method® - which he delivers with passion to filmmakers all over the world. Emmanuel lives in the UK with his wife and their two daughters. His film agent is Rachel Holroyd at Casarotto in London. He is also the writer of Screenwriting Unchained: Reclaim Your Creative Freedom and Master Story Structure (With The Story-Type Method). In Screenwriting Unchained, Emmanuel Oberg busts many myths and sets out an innovative methodThis practical, no-nonsense guide leaves behind one-size-fits-all story theories and offers a modern approach to story structure, making it a precious resource for anyone involved creatively in the Film and TV industry (or aspiring to be): writers, directors, producers, development execs, showrunners and, more generally, storytellers keen to reach a wide audience at home and abroad.Having identified three main story-types - plot-led, character-led, theme-led - Oberg reveals in a clear, conversational style how each of these impacts on the structure of any screenplay, and how we can use a single set of tools to develop any movie, from an independent crossover to a studio blockbuster. This leads to a powerful yet flexible way to handle the script development process: the Story-Type Method®. A new framework that doesn't tell you what to write and when, but focuses instead on why some tools and principles have stood the test of time and how to use them in the 21st century.According to readers (see reviews below), Oberg's new approach is a game-changer.Here are some of the easy-to-understand concepts explored in Screenwriting Unchained that will help you improve any screenplay:How to identify the story-type of your project to make its development faster, easier and solve most story structure problems. How to leave behind the prescriptive, logistical three-act structure based on page numbers or minutes and replace it with a flexible, dramatic three-act structure that will help you design a rock-solid screenplay. How focusing on emotion, character development and managing information will allow you to go beyond the "protagonist-goal-obstacles-conflict" basic chain of drama. How to use the fractal aspect of structure to design not only the whole story but also its parts in order to avoid the dreaded "sagging middle" syndrome and breathe new life into your script. How to clarify what's at stake and increase your chances of getting the project made with a new take on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. How to use subgoals to Sequence the Action and psychological/emotional steps to Sequence the Evolution of your characters. How to keep the audience engaged using tools like dramatic irony, surprise, mystery, and suspense, adding a third dimension to your story. How to master these tools and principles in scenes through practical exercises before using them in a short film, a feature film, a TV episode or a whole series following hands-on tips and advice. How to design an attention-grabbing opening and a satisfying ending. How to deal with hybrids and exceptions, as story structure isn't about forcing all narratives into a single formulaic paradigm. The Rewrite Stuff: 12 Ways to a Stronger Screenplay, how to approach a new draft creatively and efficiently. How to make the difference between selling documents - used to raise development or production finance - and story design tools.Once you've developed a killer script, how to best pitch your project according to its story-type and get enthusiastic partners on board....and much, much more!Using many case studies including films as diverse as Gravity, Silver Linings Playbook, Crash, Billy Elliot, The Intouchables, Birdman, Alien, Groundhog Day, Misery, Edge of Tomorrow, The Secret in Their Eyes, Cloud Atlas, L.A. Confidential and The Lives of Others, Screenwriting Unchainedwill transform the way you write, read, pitch, design, assess and develop screenplays.Enjoy my conversation with Emmanuel Oberg.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/indie-film-hustle-a-filmmaking-podcast--2664729/support.
