PART 3 of Does life have meaning Series: How do we find meaning (and happiness) in the contemporary age?Nihilism, the abandonment of all fundamental beliefs, may appear a hopeless outlook. Yet perhaps it also has potential. Join philosopher Nolen Gertz as he explores the history of nihilism to give us a complex image of it as something we can learn to live with in our technological age. Nolen Gertz is Associate Professor of Applied Philosophy at the University of Twente, the Coordinator of the Human Condition Research Line of ESDIT, and a Senior Researcher of the 4TU.Centre for Ethics and Technology. His research focuses primarily on the intersection of political philosophy, existential phenomenology, and philosophy of technology. When we sit down to meditate, we are trying to get to a place of stillness, calm, and silence to easier place ourselves in the present moment. In the present moment, we gain clarity and balance and one way into that place of calm is silence. This meditation hopes to assist the meditator to get to that place. Listen to the silence. One breath at a time.
We hold on to so many things in our life. Childhood trauma, embarassments, failures, disappointments all take up so much space that we leave little room for the successes, gratitude, hope, possibility. This meditation hopes to help the meditator remember that life is a process of letting go. One breath at a time.
When meditating, we often concentrate on our breathing and when we get into that routine, we can sometimes forget that following your breath is really just one way to meditate. There are many other ways and when we change it up, very often we see things differently so much so that when we come back to our old ways of doing things, we can actually see them again, as if it is the first time, with a brand new perspective. This meditation hopes to help the meditator get to that place of seeing things again, for the first time. One breath at a time.
Breaking Through Barriers - Meditation We get so focused on the big goal that it is very easy to lose sight of all the little achievements we accomplish on the way. Really, each little decision we make, each step, each hurdle we make it over should be celebrated just as much because it is they that truly get us there. This meditation hopes to help the meditator remember that a goal is full of little goals along the way just as a day is gull of minutes, hours, seconds which is why we practice taking things one breath at a time.

Self discipline is the only way to form new habits and achieve new goals. Keeping your word with yourself is the first step towards being able to keep your word with others. Many times we can get swept away by the daily struggle and days, weeks, months can go by in between steps towards progress. Meditation can help form new patterns of behavior, to break free of unproductive thoughts and habits. One breath at a time.

If you are an ENFP, there's a chance you've been feeling distant and disconnected during the last few months. Nothing strange about that - ENFPs just love interacting with other people, especially at work. Based on personal experience, I can say there is a big difference between people who work for themselves and those employed in bigger companies, as working for yourself forces you to design your own structure and manage your needs much easier. However, anyone CAN create their own structure and one of the solutions to feeling disconnected is thinking about your needs, habits and routines and finding alternative ways to replace them - and even making them better and more exciting than before. A Course in Miracles teaches us that “your part is merely to return your thinking to the point at which the error was made” so we can ask for a miracle to replace our mistaken thinking. My days have largely shifted from painful to peaceful, so when “bad days” show up, I really notice them. In this episode you’ll get to hear about a day when I was literally out of sync with the universe. Everything. Went. Wrong. When I finally stopped and asked for guidance about where I went wrong, I was surprised to be shown the thought that was fueling my chaos. It was rooted in judgment. When I was able to clearly see this and hand it over, my day ended very differently from how it began. In this episode you’ll learn some helpful tools from A Course in Miracles to turnaround a “bad day.” DISCLAIMER: This show is for educational purposes only and is not to be construed as medical or mental health advice or treatment.
