Send us a textOn the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are wishing we were Nicolas Cage and best friends with Pedro Pascal. We watched the 2022 film from Tom Gormican, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.I'm putting it out there right now: Nic Cage is one of our finest actors. Not only is he a freaking Oscar winner, but he also does weird meta movies like this one. Doesn't he seem like the craziest hang imaginable? There may have been some tough years in his past. Who among us doesn't occasionally have some money troubles and have to accept work we'd rather not do? But should we get on his case for stuff like Bangkok Dangerous and Drive Angry? For every one of those films, there's a Moonstruck, a Leaving Las Vegas, a The Rock. He's the best, and he shows us why in this delightful film.(Recorded on September 18, 2024)Links to Stuff We Mentioned:The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent - The Movie Database (TMDB)The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent trailer - YouTubeTom Gormican — The Movie Database (TMDB)Nicolas Cage — The Movie Database (TMDB)Pedro Pascal — The Movie Database (TMDB)Nicolas Cage: Real estate and tax problems - WikipediaThe Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Paddington (2014) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Paddington 2 (2017) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Guarding Tess (1994) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Vampire's Kiss (1988) — The Movie Database (TMDB)American Psycho (2000) — The Movie Database (TMDB)Batmobiles down the ages - Pocket-lintFollow Us:Give us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts!Sean's Letterboxd profile!Steven's Letterboxd profile! Our Buzzsprout site! Our Instagram profile!Support the show

Welcome to this season's CAGE MATCH, Bangkok Dangerous and Other Films of Dubious Quality! This week on The CineMEH Podcast, Josh and Ryan take on what might be, officially, the absolute peak of midness, the height of mediocrity, the zenith of 'it's fine,' the top of the mountain for 'meh' vibes... 2008's Bangkok Dangerous. And yes, we almost immediately become distracted and talk about other films because there is painfully, AGONIZINGLY little to say about this particular movie. An analysis of hitman movie tropes, other film mentions, sidebar conversations, and questionable motivations await you, dear listener. Because this one has more useless nonsense and overdone cliches than anything else we've covered so far. Burdened by a ponderous mood and pacing, and adding absolutely nothing to a worn through genre, Josh and Ryan find fun in Bangkok Dangerous by talking about anything but this movie. Also! Join in the drinking game! Take a shot every time Ryan calls it 'Bangkok Dangerously'! Bonus points if you find references in last week's episode. But don't worry, we're still here to thrill you, chill you and fulfill you, no matter how 'whatever' the movie at hand is. Bangkok Dangerous was released in 2008 and stars Nic Cage, Charlie Yeung, and Shahkrit Yamnarm. The CineMEH Podcast is a Slyjack Media, LLC production Like what you hear? Does Nicolas Cage bring his A game in this Action movie remake of Bangkok Dangerous (2008)? Listen and find out in this action-packed episode you don't want to miss!
What in the name of Zeus' BUTT hole are we doing? 1996 powerhouse Michael Bay flick, The Rock, takes on a real doozy of a remake in 2008's Bangkok Dangerous. Is John Mason really James Bond? Do dick triplets exist? Has Hulkamania ever really left us? Can we please just watch Zardoz? This is Cage Match.
The rage Cage pulls an Adam Sandler and takes a job filming for a few weeks in Bangkok. Watch as he eats delicious food in fancy restaruants, lives in big beautiful houses, goes on boatrides thhrough the local markets and goes on moonlit dates in the beautiful flora and fauna of Bangkok. He also films some scenes and kind of acts a little bit. This week on the podcast, YouTuber video essayist extraordinaire Patrick H. Willems hops back on the mic with us for another pair of misguided, xenophobic action pictures! First, there's Bangkok Dangerous, a messy mix of John Woo and Wong Kar-Wai involving an American assassin (Cage) traipsing around Thailand for his next kill, only to find strange purpose among the people (and spicy food!) of the place. Too bad this remake of a 1999 Thai action flick is shockingly low in energy and style, and Cage just doesn't look happy to be here. The same can't be said for the Luc Besson-produced From Paris With Love, a fatty bit of EuropaCorp sleaze that pairs a buttoned-down Jonathan Rhys Meyers with a bald, goateed American pig-dog Travolta as they jaunt around Paris with vases of coke and set about stopping an Islamist terrorist attack. It's as perversely fun as it is horrendously racist, which is an...interesting dynamic to try to navigate! Nicolas Cage is the actor who best straddles the worlds of schlocky movies and high-brow art cinema. His work in films like Raising Arizona, Adaptation, and Moonstruck is acting on a higher level. His work on films like A Score to Settle, Kill Chain, and Pay the Ghost feels like quick money-grabs. And his work on Face/Off, Mandy, and The Wicker Man lie somewhere in the middle. This remake of a Thai film by the same name and directors finds Nic Cage trying to bridge his many worlds. And although it falls short, Bangkok Dangerous lives on more as a punchline than the film it was intended to be.Also, Dan plays Hitman, Shitman, or Splitman.Next episode: Being There (1979)Contact us, follow us on social media, or buy some merch at linktr.ee/RuinedChildhoods

In this week's episode we dive into the 2008 remake of Bangkok Dangerous where Nic Cage plays "Joe" an international assassin who is lined up for a string of jobs in Bangkok, Thailand. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Cage plays a hitman who goes to Bangkok for four last kills before retirement. Things are complicated when he falls in love with a deaf-mute pharmacist and runs afoul of his bosses. It’s a lot more boring than you might think! Featuring: a lot of elephant symbolism, very hot soup, and exactly one (1) cool action sequence with a boat and a motorcycle. Our guest this week is writer and musician Kenny Gray.
