I had the good fortune to speak with Slayer's Kerry King about his new solo album, From Hell I Rise, which drops on May 17th. What I've heard has been a brutal onslaught, like you'd expect! He told me why he chose that name for the album, there were other ones, but he picked this one, as it ends the album on track 13. He also told me about the flavor of the album. In case you haven't heard anything from it, I've included the two songs they've dropped from the album below. We also discussed how he got the members for the band, which includes Mark Osegueda (Death Angel), Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph, HellYeah's Kyle Sanders, and Phil Demmel rounding out the band. He said this was his "A Team" and he got the players he wanted. Kerry King On Turning 60 We also talked about his upcoming 60th birthday, which will be the first show in Europe. Over his 60 years, he's made lots of memories, some he can't remember....like a story of the early days of Megadeth that David Ellefson told me about. Barry Kerch is up next. Shinedown has a lot going on this year, including a new hot sauce. Symptom Chipotle Garlic Sauce is their latest creation. Barry talks about how this came to be, and the fact that he's a big hot sauce fan. We also talked about new music from the band, the album he thinks best represents what they're all about, The Rock Hall, and more. It's always great to talk with Barry, even if this is my first time interviewing him solo..... video to come. Thanks for listening!

Episode # 208 Lead Vocalist/Bassist Chris McLernon talks New Band Kinell, New Music/Videos, Thin Lizzy, and more! Kinell formed as a challenge: Can you write and record original songs in the spirit and style of a band you love and still create something new? Saigon Kick bassist Chris McLernon and Action City Blackout guitarist Collin DeBruhl wanted to find out, starting with Thin Lizzy, Irish-born rockers who rumbled through the ‘70s and ‘80s on a mix of catchy songs and raffish charm that resonated on both sides of the Atlantic and influenced countless musicians. After demoing a handful of tracks, McLernon and DeBruhl had the makings of a forward-looking sound that built on classic trademarks: twinned guitars, rock 'n' roll bravado, irresistible hooks and a poet's ear for lyrics and mood. They had a name, Kinell, a shortened version of an expression you've probably uttered yourself in moments of amazement or annoyance. Seeking to fill out the rhythm section, Kinell enlisted a revolving quartet of phenomenal drummers: Barry Kerch (Shinedown), Ricky Sanders (Saigon Kick, STA), Eric Rickert (Souls Harbor, Skin Tight) and Marc Danzeisen (Riverdogs, Little Caesar), playing as only they could and collectively giving the songs punch and swing. The result is Kinell's energized and outgoing debut, “Crash. Burn. Rebirth.” Produced by McLernon and mixed by multiplatinum producer Eric Bass, “Crash. Burn. Rebirth.” celebrates the past without being trapped by it. --------- Chris McLernon - bass, guitars, lead vocals Collin DeBruhl - guitar, vocals Barry Kerch - drums on Take It All, What Have I Done, Kingpin Marc Danzeisen - drums on What Might Have Been, That's The Way Thing Are, Forever After, Easy Come and Easy Go Rick Sanders - drums on Spatial Survival, Take Me Home Eric Rickert - drums on Say Goodbye Additional riot vocals - Ron Redick, Amy Haines, Laura Vanadore, Jack Hunter, Emily Richards Produced by Chris McLernon Mixed by Eric Bass Additional engineering by Rick Sanders, Eric Rickert, Barry Kerch and Marc Danzeisen Mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound Artwork by Robert Merrick All songs ASCAP 2021
In this episode Chris McLernon joins the podcast. Chris talks about his new band Kinell, the idea behind starting a Thin Lizzy inspired band, writing with Collin DeBruhl, self producing, Phil Lynott. Shinedown: (Eric Bass mixing the album, Barry Kerch playing drums on the album, Brent Smith loving the album), Ricky Sanders, Eric Rickert, Marc Danzeisen, his early days in Saigon Kick, the reissue of “Water”, Jason Beiler, the possibility of future Saigon Kick, Matt Kramer, being labeled a hair band, making music for television, Cold Sweat, MORC, The Beatles, Slash, Van Halen, Michael Anthony, and a ton more! You have a set to play that's 13-15 songs, but your band has had 19 number-one singles and 25 top 10s. How do you pick which songs to play live when you're that popular? I had to ask my old friend Barry Kerch that exact question.
Chat with Barry from Shinedown about the new record "Planet Zero, recording, Shinedown success and longevity, touring, The Cure, Def Leppard, and more!
Musical acts currently filling arenas fall into a few categories: pop, electronic, country, and legacy. The notion of modern or contemporary rock bands packing enormo-domes feels like a fossil, but don't tell that to platinum-selling Shinedown, who's been packing thousands-of-seats houses for years. The group was founded by vocalist Brent Smith in 2001, after his previous band, Dreve, disbanded). He enlisted Jasin Todd (guitarist), Brad Stewart (bass), and Barry Kerch (drums). Zach Myers joined the fold in 2005 (as a touring member). He and current bassist Eric Bass (no joke) first earned album credits with 2008's smash The Sound of Madness. (Rig Rundown alumnus https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/rig-rundown-nick-perri (Nick Perri) was a short-time member of Shinedown and earned lead guitar credits on TSOM before fully handing over the 6-string reins to Myers.) The quartet's ability to fuse post-grunge pyrotechnics, four-on-the-floor rockers, and glossy, arms-in-the-air anthems, and their dynamic acoustic performances, have earned them 17 No. 1 hits on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. (If you include the other Billboard charts, they've got three more.) They also have three platinum albums (three more are certified gold in the U.S.), and six additional platinum singles. If guitar truly is in a slump in pop culture and the mainstream, somebody forgot to tell Shinedown. When PG's Chris Kies first talked tone tools with Myers and Bass in https://www.premierguitar.com/videos/rig-rundowns/shinedown (2013), they had some gear, and even some cool signature stuff. But this time, the war chest was on another level. Before their May 4 headline show at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, supporting their new, seventh album, Planet Zero, the duo flexed their rockstar credentials and carted out 40-plus instruments. Myers contends he uses every one of his guitars on a nightly basis. And Bass details his signature line of Prestige basses, which incorporate an ingenious thumb rest. Myers also shows off an irreplaceable PRS created by the late American fashion designer and entrepreneur Virgil Abloh (Off-White), and he explains how a custom-painted https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/prs-silver-sky-john-mayer-review (Silver Sky) earned him some serious eye rolls and scoffs. Plus, their techs break down the power and might that help them rock the rafters. Brought to you by https://ddar.io/XSE.RR (D'Addario XS Electric Strings).
Shinedown have an unbelievable 18 #1 songs on the Mainstream Rock Charts - setting an all-time record! So I thought, why not have them on - because well, they rule. This interview with Barry is guaranteed to get you excited for the band's "Planet Zero" album that is due out in July. Don't miss this conversation with one of rock's best!

For our 25th talk, we had the honor of welcoming back Lt. John Nores, who is a retired California game warden, and first time guest Barry Kerch, who is the drummer for platinum selling rock band, Shinedown. This was an incredible discussion that covered a wide range of topics. We broke down the importance of adequate firearm training, the 2nd Amendment, hunting and wilderness survival, conservation, and music. In the midst of the serious topics we still had time to have some laughs!Follow @silverspearsecurity for all things Silver Spear Security, LLC. @johnsilverspear is the host / COO of Silver Spear Security, LLCFollow @shinedown @bkerchofficial for all things Barry! What an amazing triple rock package, that's currently touring Europe: Alter Bridge, The Raven Age AND Shinedown. Tonight (27th November 2019) is going to be their last German show in Munich - and before they rock the stage, drummer Barry from Shinedown stopped by at our ROCK ANTENNE headquarters to talk about the tour, their Thanksgiving dinner plans for tomorrow, their very well earned title "hardest working rock band" (136 shows and more than 76.000 kms traveled, in 2018 only!) and about their 2020 plans - hint hint: new record!
In the first episode of the "Music Cast", Barry Kerch and myself discuss the new Shinedown album "Attention, Attention", touring the world in 2019 and how it has changed from when they first started, keeping healthy on tour, Mental Health and how it has affected the band over the years, how it continues to play a role in their day to day life on tour, what's next for the band and of course we visit Barry's coffee brand "Spartan Brews" for a little throw back to the "Coffee Cast". We were live in Abbotsford, British Columbia Canada and Barry made some time just before he took the stage while on tour with their friends Papa Roach. As always, pour yourself a cup and settle in for a great chat about life, coffee and all things rock!www.shinedown.comwww.spartanbrews.comwww.variabrewing.comwww.deanblundell.comwww.brentonontour.comwww.pearldrum.comwww.fitontour.comwww.lighthopelife.org

ROCK TALK WITH MITCH LAFON presents Brent Smith & Eric Bass from Shinedown (recorded September 24th 2019). Please note the interview starts at approx. the 16 minute mark of the episode. During our conversation, Eric and Brent discuss whether or not albums are still relevant, concept albums, is this a singles driven market, Poison's Talk Dirty To Me, writing filler, their latest album Attention Attention, Queenrÿche's Operation:Mindcrime and other classic concept albums, Eric producing the album - is their a risk of it being self-indulgent and do you need 'outside ears', the importance of guitar solos being 'singable', making a video for every song on the album - is their a risk it makes the album impersonal, the mystic of music, their fans have allowed them to be themselves, the older generation being disrespectful to the youth, experiencing music, the band Thunder, Post Malone and much more. Before Shinedown played a sold out show in Green Bay, WI Kaytie and I sat down in the warm up room backstage with drummer Barry Kerch. We caught up about family and how his is from the area, about playing a venue that's been standing for over 50 years and is about to be torn down. We talked about the transition period between the original Shinedown line up and the one that has now stood the test of time. Of course a lot of music talk as well. Listen when I say the 4 members of Shinedown are some of the sweetest and nicest human beings on the planet, I mean it.

Shinedown’s Barry Kerch is right where he’s always wanted to be: Playing drums full time in a major touring band. From the outside it’s hard to imagine Barry doing anything else than playing drums, but that wasn’t always the case. A relocation, a new job and thoughts of giving up the dream of playing professionally […] The post 428 – Barry Kerch (Shinedown): Never give up appeared first on Drummer's Resource: Conversations with the world's greatest drummers and music industry pros..
Cameron recently spoke to Shinedown drummer Barry Kerch backstage before their show at the BOK Center in Tulsa on May 10th. They discussed their new album "Attention, Attention," the secret to their longevity, blowing stuff up, and their upcoming tour with Godsmack.
This interview is unedited and raw exactly as it was recorded April 16, 2018 backstage at The Tobin Center in San Antonio, TX immediately following an intense workout from Brent Smith. It was pre-recorded to run Memorial Day weekend after the new album was to be released. Normally, I will edit or clean up the interview due to background noise but Brent's honesty was so pure, I wanted you to hear it first-hand the same way I did. After seeing their live show playing songs from the latest album "Attention Attention," Brent was at the top of his game with fellow bandmates Barry Kerch, Eric Bass and Zach Myers. This interview also broke the record for most co-host appearances on my national syndicated radio show LA Lloyd Rock Countdown at 15 times. It is a must-listen podcast for anyone who is a Shinedown fan, including myself who has been along for the ride since the first time I played "Fly From The Inside" on the radio 15 years ago in 2003. Enjoy and thank you SHINEDOWN for the amazing songs!
Cameron sat down with Shinedown drummer Barry Kerch at Rock on the Range to discuss drum solos, designing stage shows, the Carnival of Madness, and more.
