Chris' work has also received 20 Grammy nominations (and counting). A concept album birthed from a graphic novel...Eric takes listeners on an epic journey that was also, unintentionally, very self-biographical. “I wanted to create something different and I hope listeners hear that. Lyrically and emotionally I hope it empowers them and they can see themselves in the characters and stories I sing about. We all go through dark times and hardships, but there's always a way out. I think that's what being a human being is about.I feel like Earth is a test and we’re here to prove ourselves, go through things and come out better on the other side. “’Mind Control’is part of a larger story than I’m telling on this record and in the graphic novel that goes along with it. We’re following this character Devaren as he’s talking about his disdain for the population and how he can’t stand them, but at the end of the song he has this reflective moment where he actually regrets everything he’s been doing. The interesting thing about the characters in this story is that they represent a different part of my neurodivergence and mental health journey. In ‘Mind Control’ Devaren represents the depression that has crept into my life over the years that I didn’t see coming. I just had to personify that in a character so in‘Mind Control’ it has taken over, but ultimately in our story it will be defeated.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Thank you for checking out Talk O'Tuesdays with Eric Bass, the bass player and producer of the platinum selling rock band, Shinedown, and John Guarnieri, the host of Spear Talk podcast. This weekly podcast came about after we recorded an episode of Spear Talk one night with Thomas Winterton (the superintendent of Skinwalker Ranch), where at the conclusion of the recording, Eric and I chatted for another 90 minutes about life and everything in between, with a lot of the time dedicated to coming up with a name for the show. There is no agenda when it comes to Talk O'Tuesdays. We will cover a wide variety of topics to include scientific achievements, exploration, cryptozoology, UFOs, art, creativity, writing, mental health, farming, hiking, and just about everything under the sun. Episode # 208 Lead Vocalist/Bassist Chris McLernon talks New Band Kinell, New Music/Videos, Thin Lizzy, and more! Kinell formed as a challenge: Can you write and record original songs in the spirit and style of a band you love and still create something new? Saigon Kick bassist Chris McLernon and Action City Blackout guitarist Collin DeBruhl wanted to find out, starting with Thin Lizzy, Irish-born rockers who rumbled through the ‘70s and ‘80s on a mix of catchy songs and raffish charm that resonated on both sides of the Atlantic and influenced countless musicians. After demoing a handful of tracks, McLernon and DeBruhl had the makings of a forward-looking sound that built on classic trademarks: twinned guitars, rock 'n' roll bravado, irresistible hooks and a poet's ear for lyrics and mood. They had a name, Kinell, a shortened version of an expression you've probably uttered yourself in moments of amazement or annoyance. Seeking to fill out the rhythm section, Kinell enlisted a revolving quartet of phenomenal drummers: Barry Kerch (Shinedown), Ricky Sanders (Saigon Kick, STA), Eric Rickert (Souls Harbor, Skin Tight) and Marc Danzeisen (Riverdogs, Little Caesar), playing as only they could and collectively giving the songs punch and swing. The result is Kinell's energized and outgoing debut, “Crash. Burn. Rebirth.” Produced by McLernon and mixed by multiplatinum producer Eric Bass, “Crash. Burn. Rebirth.” celebrates the past without being trapped by it. --------- Chris McLernon - bass, guitars, lead vocals Collin DeBruhl - guitar, vocals Barry Kerch - drums on Take It All, What Have I Done, Kingpin Marc Danzeisen - drums on What Might Have Been, That's The Way Thing Are, Forever After, Easy Come and Easy Go Rick Sanders - drums on Spatial Survival, Take Me Home Eric Rickert - drums on Say Goodbye Additional riot vocals - Ron Redick, Amy Haines, Laura Vanadore, Jack Hunter, Emily Richards Produced by Chris McLernon Mixed by Eric Bass Additional engineering by Rick Sanders, Eric Rickert, Barry Kerch and Marc Danzeisen Mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound Artwork by Robert Merrick All songs ASCAP 2021

Hey guys. Peter Shankman here, the host of Faster Than Normal. I wanna talk to you for a second about the Skylight all in one family calendar. So Skylight sent me one of these a couple of months ago and I hung it on my wall. And God, how do I put this? My daughter no longer skips out on her chores! I know when her events are at school, we don't miss them. Everything is in front of us. It's a touchscreen. It's visible. It is the easiest thing I have ever used. It's beautiful. You can import your photos to it, or use the screen savers and it's right there. We sit down at breakfast. Everything she has that day is right there. Everything I need to know is right there. Did she do her chores? She does them. She checks off the box on the calendar. Oh my God. Greatest thing ever. It is amazing. I am in love with the Skylight Family calendar. I am using it constantly, literally every day, and I strongly recommend you guys pick it up too. They're a great supporter of Faster Than Normal. Neurodiverse families are going to love this. Use code: PeterShankman for 10% off, up to 30 bucks off. You're gonna love this Skylight calendar. It has changed my life with my daughter. It'll change yours too. Enjoy it. See you guys soon. Today's encore! I have been listening to our guests for well more than a decade! They have been part of my playlist since the summer of 2006 when their music helped me run the NYC Marathon faster than I ever had before. You surely know their music too, even if you've never heard the name Shinedown! Their song “Get Up” is the most inspiring, straight to the point, song I've ever heard that challenges the stigmas of talking honestly about mental health. They are some of the hardest working Artists in the world, so I was honored when they agreed to spend some time with us here today, helping to grow & inspire more honest conversations about mental health. Shinedown is a multi-platinum rock band. The song "GET UP" is from their latest album "ATTENTION ATTENTION?" Enjoy! In this episode Peter, Brent and Eric discuss: 1:08-  Intro and welcome Brent Smith and Eric Bass! 2:00-  After 136 shows spanning 48,000 miles, you guys were labeled The Hardest Working Artists of 2018! That's a ton of work & a healthy mantle! How do you make sure that you are taking care of yourselves mentally? 5:37-  On loving what you do & being driven 6:10-  On the importance of surrounding yourself with good people & a good support system 9:49-  Brent, you wrote “Get Up” for Eric. The majority of folks don't know how to talk to a friend who is, or might be struggling. What did you learn from writing this song? 14:08-  “You are not going to be defined by your failures. You are going to be defined by the fact that you refuse to give up- no matter what” -Brent Smith 16:05-  Peter on the importance of Music, and how music will pull you through  ref: “I Dare You”  ref:  Peter gets arrested for exercising, makes news. 18:24-  What is it about music, not books, movies, tv, etc, but music that people always credit with bringing them through a rough spell, or helping them remember a moment in time, etc. Why? 20:52-  Talk to me about the stigma around mental health. Finally there is a solid movement- between you guys, people like Erik Kussin who have started WeAreAllALittleCrazy.org, etc. What can people do to help grow the national/international conversation about mental health? ref:  Erik Kussin's FTN interview here #SameHere Follow Shinedown at:  http://www.shinedown.com FB Twitter INSTA YouTube AppleMusic Shazam Spotify 26:07-  Thank you Brent and Eric!! And thank YOU for subscribing, reviewing and listening.  Please.. stop right now and write us a review, EVEN IF you've reviewed us before, so that we will all be able to help & reach even more people!  You can always reach me at peter@shankman.com or @petershankman on all of the socials. Musical acts currently filling arenas fall into a few categories: pop, electronic, country, and legacy. The notion of modern or contemporary rock bands packing enormo-domes feels like a fossil, but don't tell that to platinum-selling Shinedown, who's been packing thousands-of-seats houses for years. The group was founded by vocalist Brent Smith in 2001, after his previous band, Dreve, disbanded). He enlisted Jasin Todd (guitarist), Brad Stewart (bass), and Barry Kerch (drums). Zach Myers joined the fold in 2005 (as a touring member). He and current bassist Eric Bass (no joke) first earned album credits with 2008's smash The Sound of Madness. (Rig Rundown alumnus https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/rig-rundown-nick-perri (Nick Perri) was a short-time member of Shinedown and earned lead guitar credits on TSOM before fully handing over the 6-string reins to Myers.) The quartet's ability to fuse post-grunge pyrotechnics, four-on-the-floor rockers, and glossy, arms-in-the-air anthems, and their dynamic acoustic performances, have earned them 17 No. 1 hits on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. (If you include the other Billboard charts, they've got three more.) They also have three platinum albums (three more are certified gold in the U.S.), and six additional platinum singles. If guitar truly is in a slump in pop culture and the mainstream, somebody forgot to tell Shinedown. When PG's Chris Kies first talked tone tools with Myers and Bass in https://www.premierguitar.com/videos/rig-rundowns/shinedown (2013), they had some gear, and even some cool signature stuff. But this time, the war chest was on another level. Before their May 4 headline show at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, supporting their new, seventh album, Planet Zero, the duo flexed their rockstar credentials and carted out 40-plus instruments. Myers contends he uses every one of his guitars on a nightly basis. And Bass details his signature line of Prestige basses, which incorporate an ingenious thumb rest. Myers also shows off an irreplaceable PRS created by the late American fashion designer and entrepreneur Virgil Abloh (Off-White), and he explains how a custom-painted https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/prs-silver-sky-john-mayer-review (Silver Sky) earned him some serious eye rolls and scoffs. Plus, their techs break down the power and might that help them rock the rafters. Brought to you by https://ddar.io/XSE.RR (D'Addario XS Electric Strings).

I have been listening to our guests for well more than a decade! They have been part of my playlist since the summer of 2006 when their music helped me run the NYC Marathon faster than I ever had before. You surely know their music too, even if you’ve never heard the name Shinedown! Their song “Get Up” is the most inspiring, straight to the point, song I’ve ever heard that challenges the stigmas of talking honestly about mental health. They are some of the hardest working Artists in the world, so I was honored when they agreed to spend some time with us here today, helping to grow & inspire more honest conversations about mental health. Enjoy!   In this episode Peter, Brent and Eric discuss: 1:08-  Intro and welcome Brent Smith and Eric Bass! 2:00-  After 136 shows spanning 48,000 miles, you guys were labeled The Hardest Working Artists of 2018! That’s a ton of work & a healthy mantle! How do you make sure that you are taking care of yourselves mentally? 4:56-  Peter on working to relax  ref:  The New Yorker cartoon 5:37-  On loving what you do & being driven 6:10-  On the importance of surrounding yourself with good people & a good support system 9:49-  Brent, you wrote “Get Up” for Eric. The majority of folks don’t know how to talk to a friend who is, or might be struggling. What can people do to help grow the national/international conversation about mental health? ref:  Erik Kussin’s FTN interview here #SameHere Follow Shinedown at:  http://www.shinedown.com FB Twitter INSTA YouTube AppleMusic Shazam Spotify 26:07-  Thank you Brent and Eric!! How do you get Brent Smith of Shinedown to be taken a-back by anything? That moment happened in a new episode of the DOMKcast. Promo Brady sharing with Brent his daughters interpretation of the song "Get Up" was spot on and everything that is trying to be conveyed. The simple message of getting up after failures and trying again is a powerful one. The song was written about Shinedown bassist Eric Bass who has had his battles with clinical depression over the years. The subject of anxiety and depression has been brought up in a different light lately due to the chatter coming more from a place of understanding than judgement. This is a condition that many deal with in the U.S. One of the main messages in Shinedown's latest album "Attention, Attention" is a person's journey to conquering demons in their life. Brent Smith reflect's on the success of the album coming up on the year anniversary of the release. Title track of the album showcases Brent's rapping abilities. We did a deep-dive into his hip-hop influences and what made him want to include some rap in his work. Perhaps a new fan favorite as he plans on including the song in the set at Rocklahoma this year Memorial Day Weekend in Pryor, USA. The landscape of the music business has changed since Shinedown emerged in the early 2000's. Streaming services have put their footprint on today's culture making music more accessible than ever. How has Shinedown adapted over the years? Brent makes the point that the industry has shifted and you have to pivot with it. Welcome to Rock Dudes #78, a new international episode and the guest this is the almighty Eric Bass from Shinedown. Jonas sat down with him in their tourbus just a couple of hours before they enter the stage at Annexet in Stockholm. This interview did off course cover his life as a professional musician, but we did also had a real deep talk about a lot of other things, such as family life vs touring life, how it is to live with depression. Eric did started in Shinedown at the age of 33, which was a bit before the big break-through for the band. He mentioned that his life went from 20mph to 1000. The way of entering things a little bit later than many other people in the business feels more natural regarding his personality, and we talked about that pretty much.Eric is not only a bass player, he is a fast learner and heave learned to play a lot of instrument, which is a perfectly match in his role and a music producer. Besides that he has produced many other bands, he was actually producing Shinedown latest album ATTENTION, ATTENTION.This is interview was totally un-filtered, and Eric was very open to talk deeply about all things I brought up to the table. This and more, much more you can listen to in Rock Dudes # 78, released on Tuesday, December 4th. This interview is unedited and raw exactly as it was recorded April 16, 2018 backstage at The Tobin Center in San Antonio, TX immediately following an intense workout from Brent Smith.  It was pre-recorded to run Memorial Day weekend after the new album was to be released.  Normally, I will edit or clean up the interview due to background noise but Brent's honesty was so pure, I wanted you to hear it first-hand the same way I did.  After seeing their live show playing songs from the latest album "Attention Attention," Brent was at the top of his game with fellow bandmates Barry Kerch, Eric Bass and Zach Myers.  This interview also broke the record for most co-host appearances on my national syndicated radio show LA Lloyd Rock Countdown at 15 times.  It is a must-listen podcast for anyone who is a Shinedown fan, including myself who has been along for the ride since the first time I played "Fly From The Inside" on the radio 15 years ago in 2003.  Enjoy and thank you SHINEDOWN for the amazing songs!

This week: Live from Volta 2014 Duncan, Amanda, and Richard talk to: Saul Ostrow Founder and President David Goodman Secretary and Director of Projects and Programs Susan Bowman Treasurer and Director of Design and Communication of Critical Practices!   MISSION CPI, founded in 2010 and incorporated in 2012, was established to support the emergence and development of new practices within the field of cultural production. We believe that the producers of critical culture are a community whose needs for peer discourse and engagement are underserved by current institutional conventions. Operating outside of normative institutional and marketplace models, CPI uses the common objectives, goals, and concerns of a diverse community of producers as its point of departure for programming. Our intent is to create a dynamic network and platform for the diverse points of view necessary to shape and sustain critical, theoretical, and artistic practices.   HISTORY CPI has an auspice genealogy.  Former artist (now Critic and Curator) Saul Ostrow has occupied the loft space at 162 West 21 Street since 1974. When he first moved to Chelsea, he shared this space with Rick Witter who worked for the gallery OK Harris, and the photographer Larry Topper.  In the 1970s during the winter months Sunday Salons were held at which participants would show films give slide presentations or talk on topics of interest, as well as drink tea and coffee, and  mingle.  Annually two Parties where held: one in the Fall, celebrating the beginning of the art season the other in late June marking its end. By the end of the 70s Topper, and Witter had moved out and the “Loft.” For a year or so, the artists Diane Mayo, Rex Lau, and John Wallace occupied it.  In 1979, Saul Ostrow moved back into the Loft and through the 80s had  a succession of roommates that included Jack Tilton, Donald Lipski, Muna Tseng, Eric Bass, Tseng Kwong Chi, and David Clarkson.  Between 2003 – 05 it served as the studio of the painter Shirley Kaneda.  In 2006, Ostrow moved back into the Loft. In 2011, a exhibition of works from the 1968-70 by the painter Don Dudley, was mounted for his 80th birthday party. With this event the 21ST.PROJECTS program was founded as a by-appointment-only project space.
