Benedikt Bös fliegt mit seinem Motorschirm große Strecken. Was fasziniert ihn an dieser Form der Fliegerei? +++ Es gibt viele Spielarten des Gleitschirmfliegens: Groundhandling, Abgleiter, Soaring, Thermik, XC, Acro, Speedflying. Bei allen dienen immer nur die Schwerkraft, der Wind und die Sonne als Antrieb. Anders beim Motorschirmfliegen. Dort trägt man einen Motor mit Propeller auf dem Rücken. Er sorgt für den nötigen Schub, um das Eigensinken des Gerätes bei Bedarf mehr als auszugleichen. Das ergibt dann auch ganz andere Flugmöglichkeiten. Einer, der sich dieser Form der Fliegerei verschrieben hat, ist Benedikt Bös. Der heute 31-jährige machte schon mit 16 einen normalen Gleitschirmschein. Doch weil er in den folgenden Jahren für sein Gefühl einfach zu selten in die Luft kam, versuchte er es mit dem Paramotor. Es wurde schnell zu seiner Obsession. Heute ist Bene der auch international wohl bekannteste Pilot und Botschafter der deutschen Motorschirm-Szene. Zum Beispiel gewann er 2019 und 2020 die British Open Paramotor Championship. 2021 holte er den Sieg im internationalen XContest in der Klasse Paramotor Foot-Launched. Er ist Teampilot von BGD und wird von Vittorazi Motors gesponsort. Zudem betreibt er seit Jahren eine Website, die gewissermaßen zu seinem Markenzeichen geworden ist: Paramotor Germany. Mich interessierte im Gespräch mit Bene, wo für ihn die Faszination des Motorschirmfliegens im Vergleich zum normalen Gleitschirmfliegen liegt. Immerhin geht er manchmal stundenlang mit dem Brummkreisel am Rücken in die Luft und fliegt riesige FAI-Dreiecke, zuletzt von über 400 Kilometer. Die haben mit einem Motor ihre ganz eigenen Herausforderungen. Und so erzählt Benedikt Bös in dieser 83. Folge von Podz-Glidz von seiner Leidenschaft, die ihm etliche magische Momente beschert, zuweilen aber auch im anderen Wortsinn Leiden schafft. Denn er hat, wie viele andere Motorschirmpiloten, die Macht des Propellers schon mal sehr schmerzhaft zu spüren bekommen. Der eigene Fehler, der dazu führte, ist ihm aber nicht peinlich. BGD is a development team composed of the former Aave Genesis core engineering team, and have been working on Aave for the past few years. With this new proposal, they are now working full-time for the DAO over the next 15 months. [Originally released Oct 2017] Zoe Samudzi is a black feminist writer whose work has appeared in a number of spaces including The New Inquiry, Warscapes, Truthout, ROAR Magazine, Teen Vogue,BGD, Bitch Media, and Verso, among others. She is also a member of the 2017/18 Public Imagination cohort of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) Fellows Program, and she is a member of the Black Aesthetic, an Oakland-based group and film series exploring the multitudes and diversities of black imagination and creativity. She is presently a Sociology PhD student at the University of California, San Francisco in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences where academic interests include biomedicalization theory, productions of race and gender, and transgender health. She is a recipient of the 2016-17 Eugene Cota-Robles Fellowship. Her dissertation "'I don't believe I should be treated like a second citizen by anybody': Narratives of agency and exclusion amongst male and transgender female sex workers in Cape Town, South Africa" engages hegemonic gender constructs in South Africa as they affect identity construction and health of transgender women and cisgender men in sex work. Zoe sits down with Brett to apply critical race theory to our current US society. Zoe Samudzi is a black feminist writer whose work has appeared in a number of spaces including The New Inquiry, Warscapes, Truthout, ROAR Magazine, Teen Vogue, BGD, Bitch Media, and Verso, among others. She is also a member of the 2017/18 Public Imagination cohort of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) Fellows Program, and she is a member of the Black Aesthetic, an Oakland-based group and film series exploring the multitudes and diversities of black imagination and creativity. She is presently a Sociology PhD student at the University of California, San Francisco in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences where academic interests include biomedicalization theory, productions of race and gender, and transgender health. She is a recipient of the 2016-17 Eugene Cota-Robles Fellowship. In this fifth episode of RISD Voice, we interviewed Drew Freeman. Drew graduated from RISD from graphic design with a BFA in 2001 and BGD in 2002. Drew went on to work for Pentagram, the world's largest independent design consultancy. At Pentagram, Andrew is an Associate Partner to Paula Scher and has developed identity and branding systems, promotional materials, websites, environmental graphics, packaging and publication designs for a broad range of clients that includes, among others, Bloomberg, Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Citibank, Hershey's, Target, Columbia Records, Cohen Brothers Realty, The Street, Shake Shack, Spike Lee, Robin Hood Foundation, The Public Theater, Philadelphia Orchestra, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Pittsburgh Children’s Museum, the High Line, NYC Parks, and The New York Times. Since this interview took place, Drew is now the Founder and Principal of afreeman, a design consultancy that develops identity and branding systems, promotional materials, new media, packaging, publication design, signage and environmental graphics for a broad range of clients.
