In this episode, Benincasa creatively explores the mystique of prayer beads and personal mantras for transformative meditation and moments of tranquility. Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cH3Kf7Dztek Sacred Currency: My Artistic Approach to Prayer Beads By Pat Benincasa © 2023 Pat Benincasa All Rights Reserved "I was always curious about prayer beads, how they span across different cultures and religions and become a guide for focused meditation. So, I purchased sandalwood prayer beads. I like the look, feel and smell of them. I researched prayer bead rituals, with all of their chants and Oms. The idea is to select a chant to say when placing each bead between finger and thumb. I tried to stay within the confines of a single chant. But let's face it, I ‘m ADD and it's hard for me to stay within the confines of any one thing! As days passed, the routine grew stale and disconnected, outside of myself. I thought a lot about the purpose of prayer beads. Being raised Catholic, I know a little something about beads- Rosary beads, to be exact. The beautiful flow of Hail Mary's to the Our Father, then back to the Hail Mary's carries a rhythmic solace. It creates a mystical alchemy that blends words, tactility, spirit, and repetition that pulls one out of themselves toward a profound connection with the Divine. I wanted that fluidity with my new beads and craved the possibility of a similar experience. In the meantime, having them in my pocket or on my wrist , they become a portable meditation - a tangible reminder of tranquility. Now, I am an artist, an admirer of the senses. I love what you can see, smell, hear and touch! Or maybe it's my Mediterranean DNA, steeped in reverence for the physical world. I decided to approach my prayer beads as I would any artistic endeavor, with trust in the idea and willingness to follow wherever it goes. In my work that meant working in glass, sheet metal, varnish stains, or whatever material suits the concept! Yet, my prayer beads demanded a different kind of creativity, one that spoke directly to my heart. Instead of one mantra, I write a “mantra” that I need to hear and say it for as long as I need to. The mantras change as I change, and I love how a phrase or thought fragment provides spiritual currency to receive and give. Even if I don't quite understand the meaning of the phrase, like a work of art, I follow its trail to see where it goes. Here are some of my mantras: “Fortify my spirit in the truth of who I am.” “Make space for me in the quiet.” “Blur the edge of my here and there.” “In every breath gratitude” If you were to make your own mantras: What do you need to hear? They don't have to make sense for anyone but you. For me, the beauty of creating a mantra is that it infuses my prayer beads with deeper meaning. They become a conduit of transformation and with each recitation, the beads feel re-purposed, resonating with the shifting currents of my daily life. Infused with the energy of my intentions, struggles & hopes, they become cherished companions on my spiritual path. With prayer beads in hand, I find the sacred dance between the tangible and the intangible, the ordinary and the divine. They are a gentle reminder to live in the moment with grace and gratitude."

Il 20 novembre 1972 moriva a Roma Ennio Flaiano, sceneggia- tore, scrittore, giornalista, umorista, critico cine- matografico e drammaturgo italiano, come reci- ta diligentemente l'ormai prestigiosa Wikipedia. Abstract: After a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), the neural network activates a reparative response seeking to restore homeostasis. Astrocyte reactivation is an essential component of this response. The injury creates a temporal microenvironment where neurogenic signaling molecules regulate cell fate decisions of neocortical neural progenitors. Likewise, astrocyte reactivation triggers a transcriptional-proliferative program where neurogenic signaling molecules play crucial roles. However, precise molecular mechanisms are context-specific and are not fully understood. Here we studied cellular and molecular aspects of reactive astrocytes response after Notch-Wnt neurogenic signaling modulation. Our results provide new evidence of cortical Notch-Wnt signaling activation after TBI. Reactive astrocytes in the core of Notch signaling showed a differential aggregated distribution. In vitro, Notch inhibition promoted a neural precursor profile and might increase the number of cells committed in a proliferative response. Finally, we found an indirect co-regulation of Wnt-Shh signaling in BHLH-Notch target genes and a Notch-supportive effect in Wnt-Shh signaling activation. Copy rights belong to original authors.

Endurance News: Alistair Brownlee is out of the Pho3nix Sub7 Attempt due to injury! Joe Skipper joins Kristian Blummenfelt, Katrina Matthews and Nicola Spirig who will attempt to defy the impossible and break 7 hours and 8 hours for men and women respectively over the full distance. Joe's mentality is that no one, not even the dominant Norwegians and Kristian Blummenfelt is unbeatable. Dual Olympic champion and Sub7 aspirant Alistair Brownlee has been ruled out of the Pho3nix Sub7Sub8 Project, powered by Zwift due to a stress response in his hip that requires immediate treatment. Brownlee will be replaced by fellow Brit and PTO world number six Joe Skipper who takes his shot at making history against reigning Olympic and World Champion Kristian Blummenfelt on Sunday at the DEKRA Lausitzring in Senftenberg, Germany. It is a cruel blow for Brownlee, who along with MANA Group CEO and Pho3nix Foundation board member Chris McCormack was part of the initial team that developed the concept of delivering the first sub-7 hour full distance triathlon in late 2019. “We are extremely disappointed with the announcement, but when you are pushing your body to the limit like Alistair has been, it's a fine line,” said McCormack. ‘Alistair is a true professional and will be there to support Joe, who has been preparing for Ironman Nice at the end of June, so in good shape to take on the challenge.'' ‘It's not going to get easier with Joe', said Blummenfelt. ‘He has a better full distance resume and a higher world ranking than Alistair. I'm looking forward to the challenge.' “Honestly, I'm devastated, said Brownlee. ‘I was frustrated to miss St George, and now this. I'm gutted. I was so invested in the process and loved working with my team. This was the goal that stimulated me again in the sport, on par with the Olympics. I'll do what I can to support Joe.” Brownlee, who also missed the recent Ironman World Championships in Utah, will support Skipper by pacing him in the swim, and will also join the commentary team for the live broadcast on Sub7Sub8.com. Brownlee replaces Richard Varga on Skipper's team, with Jonny Brownlee also dropping out to be replaced by German national marathon champion Frank Schauer. Skipper retains the support of the bike pacemaking team led by Alex Dowsett, who is fresh off riding in the Giro d'Italia. Ironman Des Moines Course Swim This unique 2-loop swim course will take athletes counterclockwise in popular Grays Lake. Starting at the boat ramp, athletes will make their way to the bridge where spectators can get an up-close look at their athlete. Before starting lap 2, athletes will get out of the water, cross the peninsula and head back in the water. This 2-loop, spectator friendly swim course is a great way to kick off your race day. Bike The rolling hills of this 1-loop bike course will take athletes through some of Iowa's best sights. Athletes will head west through beautiful West Des Moines before hitting the rolling hills of Dallas County and famous bridges of Madison County. In the heart of the course, athletes will ride through Winterset, the birthplace of John Wayne, before heading back north to Des Moines. May the wind be at your back and sun on your face. 4079 ft of elevation gain. Run Athletes can expect an entertainment packed; 3-loop run course. After exiting T2, athletes will run around Grays Lake before heading downtown to the spectator packed Locust St where local restaurants, bars and parks will give the athletes tons of energy for their final leg of the race. Finish line will once again be in the heart of the entertainment district of downtown Des Moines: Court Ave. Music, lights, and the cheers of the crowd will give the athletes that final burst of adrenaline they crave.

¿Pendejo, no?
Day 4 To Nanna, daughter of Benincasa, a little maid, her niece, in Florence: Now, then, we must have light--otherwise it would not be enough. This light has to be the light of most holy faith. But the saints say that faith without works is dead, so our faith might be neither living nor holy, but dead. Therefore we need to exert ourselves virtuously all the time, and leave our childishness and vanities, and not behave any longer like worldly girls, but like faithful brides consecrated to Christ crucified; in this way we shall have a lamp, and oil, and light.

The Seed Cast is pleased to welcome animator and artist Andrew Benincasa to the show. He has also attended residencies at Yaddo, St. Anne's Warehouse, the Orchard Project, TAC, and Holes in the Wall Collective. In this episode we tackle a lot of topics concerning fantasy, mythology, allegory, and individual interpretations of such. Andrew shares how a need to communicate sparked his art, how he believes the world is ready for new stories and myths to take place of historical and religious authorities, and how the element of time and the live artist not only emphasize the importance of story, but the drive to tell it. You can check out his work at http://www.andrewbenincasa.com/ and follow him on instagram @andrewbenincasa. Andrew's artist picks: Käthe Kollwitz, Leo and Diane Dillon, and Ursula Le Guin.

Preaching for Ash Wednesday, Teresa Marie Cariño offers a reflection on refusing to return to the status quo through our Lenten practices: "So as we enter into this season of Lent, let us turn our whole hearts to God and place in God our trust. Let us give alms not just by giving money to the poor but by working for economic security of all. Let us pray not just by reciting rote prayers but by opening our hearts to listen to the Spirit. Let us fast, not just from food and drink but from the privileges we have been given to stand in solidarity with the oppressed. Let us work together to repair relationships and co-create systems of economic and social justice. Let us be brave enough to be the light as we free a new dawn." Teresa Marie Cariño serves as the Director of Faith Formation at St. Ignatius Parish in San Francisco, CA and is studying for her Masters of Theological Studies at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, CA. A native of the San Francisco – Bay Area, Teresa received her Bachelor of Arts in Theology and Religious Studies at the University of San Francisco. Teresa is an extended member of the Benincasa community.
