As the recent events were a bit...much, I invited a Latvian/American journalist Karlis Streips to help me analyze what's going on and why. Now, mr. When Dusan Bulut entered the 2019 BIG3 Draft as the No. 1 FIBA 3x3 player in the world, it opened up a number of opportunities for not only other FIBA players but all players overseas. So when Bulut was named captain at the start of 2022, why not add his long time FIBA rival to the mix. Enter Karlis Lasmanis. Lasmanis, who won Olympic Gold in the first ever 3x3 games with Latvia, was someone Bulut went head-to-head with multiple times against and, alongside Tamas Ivosev, changed the dynamic of the BIG3. Lasmanis' ability to shoot, secondary playmaking, and feel for the 3-on-3 game made an instant impact in the league. He was a big part of the reason Aliens made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. We get into how he started playing the game of basketball, why he got into 3-on-3, his Olympics experience, the differences of the BIG3 and FIBA, and his plans for the upcoming year. Rich Karlis is probably best known as the “Barefoot Kicker” for the Broncos, however he is far more than a guy who didn't wear a shoe on his kicking foot. Rich played for the Broncos in the 80's and was also on the roster for four other NFL teams. Not only was Rich cut multiple times in the NFL, he was also fired a few times in the corporate world after he retired from the league. He learned a lot of lessons along the way and today has completely reinvented himself with a new passion.

Iona College Radio Hour with Willie O'Ree and Chelsea Cabarcas
Williams returned with 14:17 left in the second quarter, and the Washington offense began to click. And much like they had in the second half of Super Bowl XXI against the New York Giants, the Broncos defense collapsed. On the Redskins' first play of the second quarter, receiver Ricky Sanders got behind defensive back Mark Haynes (who tried to jam him at the line of scrimmage) and safety Tony Lilly, and caught a pass from Williams, and took it 80 yards for a touchdown. After forcing the Broncos to punt on their next possession, Washington advanced to the Denver 27. Facing third-and-one, Williams connected with receiver Gary Clark who made a diving catch in the end zone to give Washington a 14–10 lead. After the ensuing kickoff, Denver drove to the Washington 26, aided by running back Sammy Winder's 27-yard reception and Elway's 21-yard run. But left tackle Dave Studdard, blocking defensive end Dexter Manley, went down with a knee injury. After Elway threw an incomplete pass on third down, Karlis missed a 43-yard field goal attempt. On the first play of the Redskins' ensuing drive, Williams threw a 16-yard completion to Clark. Then on the next play, running back Timmy Smith, a rookie in his first NFL start, took off for a 58-yard touchdown run, with blocking from guard Raleigh McKenzie and tackle Joe Jacoby, making the score 21–10.[9] Washington's offensive line featuring McKenzie and Jacoby figured greatly in a play known as the Counter Gap, which the Skins ran repeatedly in the game.[12] The Redskins increased their lead to 28–10 on their next possession with a 50-yard touchdown pass from Williams to Sanders, making him the first player in Super Bowl history to catch two touchdowns in one quarter. Four plays after the ensuing kickoff, Washington defensive back Barry Wilburn intercepted a pass from Elway on the Redskins 21, and once again, the Redskins stormed down the field to score. First, Smith broke loose for a 43-yard run, then Williams completed a pair of passes to Sanders to reach the Denver 7. Two plays later, Williams threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to tight end Clint Didier to make the score 35–10. On Denver's next drive, Elway completed three consecutive passes for 40 total yards to advance to the Redskins 36. However, Washington rookie defensive back Brian Davis intercepted Elway's next pass at the 21 with seven seconds left in the half. In the second quarter alone, Williams completed 9 of 11 passes for 228 yards and four touchdowns; Smith rushed five times for 122 yards and a touchdown; and Sanders caught five passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns. The Redskins scored 35 points and gained 356 yards in total offense, both Super Bowl records, and scored five touchdowns on 18 total offensive plays. During the regular season, the Broncos had allowed 35 points for the entire game only once—and it was in that game, a 40-10 loss to the Houston Oilers in Week 4, that they fielded replacement players, with the regular players having gone on strike. Washington's 25-point lead at the half surpassed the previous record of 20 points set by San Francisco in Super Bowl XVI.

Two years ago, we partnered with the Oklahoma City Thunder to launch an accelerator and to help us build a more inclusive startup community in our region. Since our launch, we’ve helped 39 startups and we’ve built a community of 78 founders and over 100 mentors as well as an impressive database of in and out of state investors. Although we’ve been operating for a while, we still get asked questions about what it is that we do. So we decided to start the year with a new episode talking about our partnership with the best NBA team in the nation, and we asked Karlis Kezbers, Director of Business Intelligence and Strategy for the Oklahoma City Thunder to help us go over some of the most frequently asked questions we typically get about the accelerator program.

Welcome to Episode 13 of the Front Office Exchange podcast featuring Oklahoma City Thunder Director of Business Intelligence and Ticket Strategy, Karlis Kezbers. Before I introduce Karlis, I want to let everyone know that I'll be at the Momentum Sports Marketing Symposium next week in New York. I'll be there through the afternoon of the 9th - which is the first day of the conference - so if you're in town for the event, please send me a message on Twitter at @jakefehling or email me at jake@frontofficeexchange.com - I'd love to say hello! Now, for this week's guest. I was introduced to Karlis by a mutual acquaintance with whom I worked closely several years ago at USA Baseball. That's been the great thing thus far with the podcast - getting to reconnect with old colleagues from the sports business industry and being introduced to new ones. I really enjoyed my conversation with Karlis, who was kind enough to talk to me the morning of the Thunder's opening night game against the 76ers. They won that game and have since won two more, so, so far so good with the Russell Westbrook solo act. Karlis tells his story about how, after graduating from the University of Oklahoma, he traveled west where he climbed the ticket sales ladder with the Phoenix Suns. Shortly thereafter, he landed what was essentially his dream job in the NBA at the time, when the new Oklahoma City Thunder brought him back to his hometown in 2008. Karlis talks about his transition from a typical sales role into one where he is now leading a team and focused more on the analytics behind the sale. He attributes rolling up his sleeves and relentlessly networking to his success, and he offers a few tips along those lines as well. Big thanks both to Karlis and to you for listening. For show notes, past episodes and more, please visit us at www.frontofficeexchange.com, on Facebook at Front Office Exchange and on Twitter at @frontofficeexch. Please also feel free to reach out to me directly at jake@frontofficeexchange.com and on Twitter at @jakefehling. This and past episodes of Front Office Exchange are available on iTunes and SoundCloud, among other places, and I encourage you to subscribe, share episodes, rate them, add comments, and suggest ideas for future guests.

WE DID IT! After a guerilla season of Bang On The Strillers live at The Butterfly Club in January 2016, Quinn put her welfare cheque where her mouth is an coralled some of the best cabaret writers/singer/performers in the industry together to record a live show as part of the 2016 Melbourne Cabaret Festival. Featuring Mike McLeish, Michelle Brasier and original songs from Astrid & Otto Rot (aka Die Roten Punkte), Karlis Zaid (and Karin Muiznieks), Shanon Whitelock (who also played house band) and myself - I even wrote a song specially for the show! Thanks to Chapel Off Chapel and to Mike McLeish for being so supportive with the project, and to the audience who came, and specially to the audience to PAID to come. Forgive the mic blow outs, I couldn't afford someone to ride the mix, but it still sounds like a great bootleg and if you get behind us, we'll only get better. Considering I basically pulled this show out of my arse in the middle of a horrible cold, with a brand new all original show opening two days later, it's a wonder I don't have my own TV show to populate with my talented friends. ENJOY! And please support the podcast. Share, rate, and soon I hope you can also donate. Songs featured in the recording included the following copyrighted material from the original songwriters involved in the show: Hair That You Wear - words & music Karlis Zaid; Flasher - words & music Karin Muiznieks; I Live for Music Theatre - words & music Geraldine Quinn; Bi-Polar Rhapsody - words & music Shanon Whitelock; Cabaret Overlord - words & music Geraldine Quinn; Love Songs - words & music Geraldine Quinn; Burger Store Dinosaur - words & music Die Roten Punkte (aka Astrid & Otto); Astrid's Drinking song - words & music Die Roten Punkte (aka Astrid & Otto); You Love It - words & music by Geraldine Quinn; All other text and farting around written by or made up by the speakers. Please don't rip anyone off for money. We're all independent and these guys agreed to do their original material for the podcast, knowing I make no money from it. So the best thing you can do is buy their stuff and see their shows. They're all really great.
*Content warning - We discuss violence in this episode, in the context of writing about dark stories. If you feel like this may be a topic that brings up issues for you, go back and have a listen to Michelle Brasier's episode - she's a bubbly wonder! Next episode will be ridiculously cheerful. This one's still interesting, however I thought you should know.* Welcome to the first special Melbourne Cabaret Festival episode of the podcast! In between touring with musicals and teaching performance, Karlis Zaid has been splashing about in the dark side of cabaret for years and years. Zaid is currently appearing in the 2016 Melbourne Cabaret Festival with 'Australian Horror Story', as show he originally wrote with Karin Muiznieks in 2012. Since then, he's reworked, rewritten and added content, roped in the magnificent Aurora Sheehan (nee Kurth) and Mark Jones as co-performers and managed to snaffle Steven Gates from Tripod to direct (and I'm not jealous at all) and is re-launching the show in June 2016. From Collingwood vampires being terrified of contracting Hep C to chirpy little songs about capital punishment, Zaid makes some of my output seem hopelessly Pollyanna-esque. Playing 17-19 June 2016 at Chapel Off Chapel. Book through the Melbourne Cabaret Festival website. Sexy people book. And you wanna be sexy, don't you? And thanks for putting up with perhaps a slightly more dodgy sound quality than usual. With the show prep it's been a bit of a rush to get stuff out but there will be a RASH of episodes in June, as we gear up to the festival.

This week on The Sci-Fi Movie Podcast, Jonathan and Rem discuss "Ex Machina" from 2015 and directed by Alex Garland.Initial Ratings (0 to 10)Jonathan: 9.0 Creepy RobotsRem: 9.1 Broken Robotic Limbs The Positive Ex Machina is a perfect example of great Sci-Fi, and is absolutely essential viewing. Rem loved the cast, and Oscar Isaac in particular. Jonathan really enjoyed the music score, and found it perfect for the mood of the story being told. The Negative Ex Machina is not a fast paced action movie, and requires the viewer to really pay attention. In a world of bigger and faster, it might be tough to watch by younger audiences. Verdict Possibly one of the most important films we've discussed on The Sci-Fi Movie Podcast. This is a fascinating exploration about the relationship between Humanity and Technology, and it's one of our best examples of essential Sci-Fi viewing. Listener Feedback Fox SterlingI think some people will be marrying robots but the majority of us will stick to people. By the time we all can marry them they will have already taken over and wiped out humanity. Except for one ragtag group of resisters led by a man named John Connor. Jennifer RobertsonOf all the possible fears there are in the sci-fi universe, robots and AI are not high on my threat list. I've seen how far we have come in robot technology (and it is underwhelming to say the least) and if my predictive text and auto correct on my cell phone is any indication, the AI isn't that much ahead of it. Bandrew ScottThis is one of those films that prove, you don't need large casts, huge sets, or massive explosions to make a good film. This is a prime example of what can be accomplished with good vision. Not only is the story telling amazing, but the set design is gorgeous, the special effects are seamless, and the acting is as flawless as you can get. All around, one of my favorite SciFi films of all time. Absolutely essential SciFi viewing. Jamie PiperLove this film , it's deep thought provoking and haunting. Special effects are great on such a small budget and Oscar issacs dance scene is the best . As for robots leading to humanity's down fall , who cares if their this hot ! Great work on the podcast guys , still the best ! Russ LaytonSurrogates Erik FetenI enjoyed it, but it didn't bowl me over the way it did for so many others. I may have gone into it with too many expectations. Michael SimshauserWill most likely be watching this weekend as its a 99c rental on ITunes Australia. Nick JensenMarrying robots? Probably, I think a guy in Japan legally married a sex pillow so this is definitely in our future. This movie is amazing, it embodies what great sci-fi should be; awesome thought provoking story with amazing special effects. Love when an original movie like this comes around, makes me proud to be a sci-fi fan. James Rogershaunting future...goooood movie Jim GoodmanI didn't enjoy this film as much as I wanted to. I had heard nothing but good things about it before seeing it. For me this is just another Frankenstein retelling with a fresh CGI coat of paint. Good performances and beautiful sets did not make up for this 200 year old story that has been done to death. Bobby RafuseWell, after watching for the first time with my brother today I can say we were both digging from start to end. Great performances from the cast. I'm now going to have to check out the anime it's based from Appleseed. As for the question of AI. I think it's a door we probably shouldn't be knocking on so quickly. This movie kinda shows that a little haha I almost see it as an inevitable that they would end up revolting & destroy us with the way our race is. Daniele TottleSpoiler alert, don't read this comment if you have not seen the movie /// I thought the movie had great potential and did a lot of things right. Great setting with a strong opening story and a beautiful photography/cinematography. But it fell short in the final act due to the characters. The performances were great but writing-wise Nathan and Caleb were so one-dimensional and absurd that when they died i could not care less. Ava was written better, a deeper character for sure, but when she started her killing spree i felt violently pulled out of the story and even a little insulted. It seemed like the writers had a brilliant movie in mind but could not find a decent ending that didn't involve the most cliché final act of all time. Eager to hear what you guys thought about it. It's great listening to you, don't ever stop sci-fiing! Bob ZerullEx Machina is a masterpiece. A24 is knocking it out of the park with movies like this, Enemy, Under the Skin smile emoticon and The Witch. This movie should've been nominated for an Oscar. Brian CampbellJonathan is already married, but there's hope for you Remi! Todd E. Waters @ScifiMovieGuys Enjoyed it, but not sure what all the fuss was about. Perhaps I missed the point. Karlis from England dropped us an email... Hi Remi and Jonathan, I don't tend to write in about each film but after seeing this one recently i just had to write something about it because it felt like something a bit different. I absolutely loved it. Not just for the wonderful dialogue and clever plot that kept me guessing all the way through as i flip flopped between who had the power and who to trust but it was wonderfully made from the bottom up. The subtle touches were wonderfully clever and thought out. It starts with sweeping overhead shots showing the vast wilderness before leading us into the small claustrophobic and controlled world of Nathan done to show us the stark contrast between the two worlds. One full of life and unruly the other plain and mechanical. The use of colour is a wonderful touch. With the red of the power outage actually giving is a hint that this is dangerous. I wondered at the end if ava leaving caleb at the end was due to a lack of empathy or of it was that she partly felt that he would jeopardize her freedom or because maybe she felt so little for him she didn't even care enough to finish him off. Where as she wanted to end Nathan's story. Aside from the story I think this could be a decision made by the filmmakers to show the seduction of technology and how its advancement and progress could lead to our entrapment losing some of our freedom, which is sort of like everyone being buried in their phones. The subtext about society and the questions of what it means to be alive gives this film a lot of depth and a lot to think about afterwards but really what i love about this film is the performances, the pace and the slow development of the plot. As Caleb learns more so do we as viewers and due to this fact the end is a surprise because it's the first time we have not been shown exactly what Caleb is seeing. Overall this is a wonderfully made film deserving of the plaudits it got.I think this should be viewed as essential sci fi viewing. From boredofborders.com: "Karlis is an ex project manager in the field of waste management who at the age of 28 realized that visiting mountains only a couple of times a year just won’t do, so he left his job and started a life of adventures and freedom, spreading the addiction and attracting others to BoB as well. Every adventure has a different team, but all of BoB team members have one thing in common - urge to get moving and true love for adventures. In 2013, Karlis crossed Europe from North Cape to Gibraltar on Nordic skates in 60 days covering more than 6150 kilometers and setting a new Guinness Record - The longest ride on inline-skates. (The Guinness guys have not acknowledged this yet, but who cares - we know it’s true.) From the end of January till mid-February 2014, Karlis and three other cycling enthusiasts traveled from Riga to Sochi by bicycle realizing a 2840 kilometers long wintery ride and reaching the capital of the Winter Olympic Games of 2014 in 17 days." He's currently making his way to mainland Asia via rowboat across the Pacific Ocean. Today, he joins us from Papua New Guinea.
