Moms are overworked, undervalued, and burnt out. And being defaulted into the care work in the home is a large part of why. But if we can learn how to push back, create change, and advocate for more value on care work, we can find a different way forward. This week on The Momwell Podcast, I'm joined by Blessing Adesiyan, Founder & CEO of Mother Honestly Group Inc., to discuss the value of care work and how we can support and empower moms on an individual, societal, and global scale. Join us for a discussion with Blessing Adesiyan who entered corporate American with a baby in her arms, literally. She shares her nuggets about creating a care infrastructure for workers at all levels and how businesses can best adapt in this new post-COVID landscape. As Blessing says, we're not going back to how it was before. In this new reality, caring about workers is as imperative for their well-being as it is for the bottom line.
Blessing Adesiyan is a mom of four and spent 20 years working as a chemical engineer in the corporate world, always feeling like an outsider as a Black woman, immigrant, and mother. That's what inspired her to start the Mother Honestly platform, a place for working mothers to talk openly about their experiences, and it has since evolved into MH WorkLife, which builds care infrastructure and products for today's workforce to help all employees lead better lives. In this episode, Liz talks all about what led Blessing to start Mother Honestly and how she's working to create a more inclusive workplace. Hosted on Acast. In March of 2020 when everyone was sent home, it was utter chaos. The worst kept parenting secret (ever) was exposed: it's impossible to work without childcare. Parents scrambled but for once, not all of them had to go it alone. Many employers, perhaps motivated by self-interest perhaps by the greater good, stepped up to offer care supports to their employers. Those moves kept productivity up and workers engaged, and even helped bring some women back into the workforce. We've iterated many times in the intervening years and today sit at our latest “new normal,” remote or hybrid work. There's been much said about the benefits of this new model…flexibility, greater work/life balance, and less stress, among others. But it begs the question: Does the modern workplace work for parents? Reshma, Tim and guest Blessing Adesiyan, founder of Mother Honestly (now MH Work Life), dig into new research from MH and Care.com that takes a hard look at where things stand. Some of the findings will surprise you. Our episode closes with Reshma and Tim's thoughts on the conversations they've had throughout Season 1 of Why Care?.
Blessing Adesiyan is a UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA Alum, and the Founder of MH, a platform that is helping mothers build better careers and happier homes. During this conversation, Blessing shared her journey to pursuing an MBA, how she used her time in business school at UNC Kenan-Flagler to prototype and test her idea, and her ambitions for empowering women to build better careers and happier homes. She obtained a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Florida, a master's degree in energy management from the New York Institute of Technology, and an MBA from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. In this episode... As a caregiver, how can you combine work and family? Where can you get the work-life care you need to thrive in your career and live your best life? According to Blessing Adesiyan, employers have a duty to provide everything their employees need to flourish professionally and personally. She says she could not have made it in corporate America after pregnancy were it not for the support she received from her workplace and home. Her experience made her believe that companies, men, and society need to lean into care for working caregivers to succeed. She now shares her journey of starting Mother Honestly to support women who don't have the infrastructure and support they need. In this episode of Reclaim Your Career, Jess Galica is joined by Blessing Adesiyan, Founder and CEO of Mother Honestly, to discuss the importance of work-life care. Blessing talks about Mother Honestly, what need to be improved to enable women's work-life balance and related issues people seek advice on from Mother Honestly.

Why should we care about caring in the workplace? This is the question that Chris and Blessing Adesiyan will delve into in this episode. Blessing Adesiyan is the Founder & CEO of Mother Honestly, a complete ecosystem reshaping the future of women and families at home and in the workplace. A chemical engineer by training, Blessing has worked for Microsoft, HP, PepsiCo, Cargill, DuPont, and BASF where she rose to senior leadership delivering value across Europe, Middle East, Africa, North America and Asia. The pandemic has laid bare the disproportionate burdens many women shoulder in caring for children or aging parents and highlighted the vital roles they have long played in the labor force. Indeed has partnered with Mother Honestly to elevate women and families, as the US grapples with nearly 1.5 million mothers yet to return due to the pandemic. How can we fix this? Chris and Blessing will try to find some answers.

Blessing Adesiyan and Andrea Mullan recognize how important the conversation around the unpaid labour of women/mothers is and how dire it is for actionable solutions to be found. Women are buckling under the immense physical and mental load of it all, especially mothers and not enough is being said or done to help lessen this burden on women. We spoke about this with Reshma Saujani, C.E.O and Founder, Girls Who Code. Reshma began her career as an attorney and activist. In 2010, she surged onto the political scene as the first Indian American woman to run for U.S. Congress. During the race, Reshma visited local schools and saw the gender gap in computing classes firsthand, which led her to start Girls Who Code. Reshma is also the author of Brave, Not Perfect–a movement rooted in her experience, TedTalk, book, and podcast encouraging women to live their bravest, fullest lives.
