It's been a rough few years for movie theaters, and the dismal start to the summer blockbuster season hasn't helped. If people go to theaters less often, will that change the type of movies that are made? Is the future of moviegoing a boutique, high-end experience? Matt Belloni, host of “The Town,” joins The Post's Alyssa Rosenberg and Chris Suellentrop to talk about what's going on with the movies and what, if anything, will get people out of their living rooms and into theaters.Read more from Belloni here and subscribe to his “What I'm Hearing” newsletter. My guest today is Chris Suellentrop. Chris is writer on national affairs & digital culture and his work has appeared in the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Kotaku, Slate and Wired. Chris has been involved in political writing since 2000, but over the past few years he has become more and more focussed on videogames. He also hosts the excellent podcast Shall We Play a Game? which was recently featured on NPR. We talk about how the Atari crash afforded Chris a rich library of games as a kid, if presidential candidates play games, why a university paper on Myst changed how he viewed games forever, and how in college a dormitory wide Madden tournament reignited his love of games and forged some of his fondest videogame memories. Clear eyes, warm hearts, can't lose. iTunes HERE - SUBSCRIBE / RATE / REVIEW RSS HERE Games discussed: Hearthstone, Clash Royale, Madden, Tecmo Bowl, Myst, Uncharted, Zelda, Combat, Meteoroid, Portal, Bioshock and RC Pro Am. Welcome to the end of JD's childhood! Just kidding. But also this episode really is about childhood. In this episode you'll hear a lot about what growing up with games was like for JD and Kyle. JD and Kyle can trace their different styles of gaming back to when they were wee gamers, with JD leaning more towards solo play and Kyle preferring to maximize the power of friendship. Of course, the lack of ladies in multiplayer and public gaming spaces is nothing new, but JD questions whether harassment is the only reason women don't want to whip out the ol' voice chat mic. Could there be other reasons behind the lack of women and girls gaming in public? Kyle really does ruin JD's childhood, though. Like. Really bad.
