Episode 2.5 Interview with Haden Blackman In a first, Doc and Mike do an interview! Their guest is Haden Blackman, author of the video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and The North American Field Guide to Monsters! About this podcast: MONSTERS! They haunt our days and chill our dreaming nights, to paraphrase Emily Dickinson. There's not a population on earth that does not have its own unique monster stories to tell to frighten, but also to instruct on the nature of good and evil, right and wrong. But what happens when monsters get out of control, when the monstrous imagination starts to bleed over into the real world? What are the effects of monsters on real people's real lives? This podcast examines the histories and mysteries of some of our favorite monsters to unlock their secrets and expose their influence on our lives. About the hosts: Michael Chemers (MFA, PhD) is a Professor of Dramatic Literature in the Department of Theater Arts at UC Santa Cruz. His work on monsters includes The Monster in Theatre History: This Thing of Darkness (London, UK: Routledge 2018). Dr. Chemers is the Founding Director of The Center for Monster Studies. Formerly the Founding Director of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dramaturgy Program at Carnegie Mellon University, he joined the faculty of UCSC in 2012. He is also the author of Ghost Light: An Introductory Handbook for Dramaturgy (Carbondale, IL: Southern Illinois University Press, 2010) and Staging Stigma: A Critical Examination of the American Freak Show (New York: Palgrave MacMillan, 2007). Dr. Chemers is also an actor, a juggler, and a writer of drama. Mike Halekakis is an entrepreneur, business owner, internet marketer, software engineer, writer, musician, podcaster, and hardcore situational enthusiast. He is the co-founder of What We Learned, a company that specializes in compassionate training courses on complex adult subjects such as caregiving for people who are sick, planning for death, and administering after the loss of a loved one. He is also the CEO of Moneyfingers Inc., a company that trains people on how to successfully create, market, and sell products on the internet. When not burning the candle at both ends with a blowtorch, Mike loves video games, outdoor festivals, reading comics and novels, role-playing, writing and playing music, hanging out with the world's best cats, and spending time with his amazing wife and their collective worldwide friend-group.

Stuart and Burning Man's Community Services head honcho Terry “Retro” Schoop riff on the streets of our fair city and the naming thereof, from the controversial to the miraculous to the misunderstood. Black Rock City has elaborate art themes, each with street names, each with curious conditions. Why does our recreational refugee camp even need street names? Were they always alphabetical around an imaginary clock face? And what's a clock anyway? Hear this year's art theme (ANIMALIA) express itself through cryptids (animals that no one can prove are real). Folklore and fandom brought us our new ABC street names: Afanc, Bigfoot, Chupacabra, Dingbat… and NOT the Easter Bunny, thanks to Encantados, which are were-dolphins that shape-shift into dapper dancers in search of a party. This is an episode with literature, lore, and laughter — and a pile of BRC trivia for street cred.Streets of BRC 2023: Cavalcade of Cryptids | Burning Man JournalBurning Man 2023: ANIMALIATerry “Retro” Schoop | Burning Man JournalBurning Man Staff: Terry Schoop

In this episode, we finish out 2022 with our final round table: Ruins of Dantooine by Voronica Whitney-Robinson and Haden Blackman. Is it the Lost Stars of Legends, as Jared claims? Is it, in fact, his FAVORITE Legends book of all time?? Or is it, as the rest of us probably conclude, just "not as bad as they say?" It's another short one this week as John and Solon sit down to talk about Arknights, Ace Combat 0, We Heart Katamari, and what they are looking forward to trying with games like Loot River, Trek to Yomi and Citizen Sleeper. In the news, union reps visited the white house, Haden Blackman is leaving 2k and Mafia 4 is in the works. Ubisoft Montreal has taken over the Prince of Persia Remake, Microsoft is making a streaming-only console and Square Enix sold off a lot of it's western studios to focus on the blockchain. As always Activision is in the news for being terrible, this time being sued by New York. As always, you can support us on our Patreon, and follow us on Twitter @VGChooChoo, @john_michonski, and @mavsplaniamania. Episode #394! Welcome back! This week we look at Frank Cho's newest art book "Pencil and Ink". This book contains what Cho is best know for, images of babes, dinosaurs and apes. However it does cover other subjects also from throughout his career. Listen for details. Scott tells us about the book "Burning Chrome" by William Gibson. And to make it a Gibson two-fer, Scott encourages us to watch the William Gibson documentary "No Maps For These Territories". To close down this episode, DL spotlights a landscape comic with two page spreads and many sweet art styles. Listen as he talks a little about J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman's new comic "Echolands". Check this episode out!
On this week's FF, we delve into a bit of mysticism with two properties hoping to draw you into their fantasy worlds. First, we talk about the latest Netflix anime film to hit the streaming service, The Wither: Nightmare Of the Wolf! The movie offers another perspective on the lore The Witcher novels and games have to offer. Then we review the new comic from the award-winning Batwoman team of J. H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman, Echolands! The book has been described as a monstrous blend of magic and technology that reads like a blockbuster car chase. We'll let you know if this new series lives up to that hype.

Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we are beginning to come dangerously close to spending longer talking about Republic Commando than we did playing it. This time, we get a look behind art development for Star Wars through the eyes and voices of two artists who worked on the title: Greg Knight, who was the principal concept artist for the game, and Paul Pierce, who designed the look and feel of the user interface. https://bryanaiello.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Origin-113-Haden-Blackman-Mixdown-1.mp3 On episode 113 of Origin, writer and game developer Haden Blackman joins me to talk working with George Lucas and creating iconic stories. Haden Blackman’s first published work was The Field Guide to North American Monsters: Everything You Need to Know About Encountering Over 100 Terrifying Creatures in the Wild, which was followed by a sequel entitled The Field Guide to North American Hauntings: Everything You Need to Know About Encountering Over 100 Ghosts, Phantoms, and Spectral Entities. Soon after completing the first Field Guide, Blackman began work at LucasArts as a writer and later a voice director, producer, and ultimately creative director. Blackman served as a producer on the MMORPG Star Wars: Galaxies[3] He was also the project lead on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, a role which he described as "a hybrid between creative director and executive producer. Every now and then, a comic project comes along that is more powerful than the latest superhero crossover; more epic that sci-fi stories set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away; and more breathtaking that the latest adaption of a Hollywood blockbuster. These are comics based on real world events, intended to help bring together the community to help heal a painful wound. Such is the case with Where We Live, an anthology project from Image Comics. This book is a fundraiser for the victims and survivors of the Las Vegas shootings in 2017. Dozens of top comic creators have donated their stories and art to this project. Back at the Image Expo earlier this year, Cullen sat down with two of the creators, J.H. Williams III and Haden Blackman, to discuss the project and why this is so important to the comic community. In addition, we have movie talk, with the recent releases of Deadpool 2 and Solo. We share our mostly spoiler-free thoughts on the movies, but we give you a proper warning before we discuss that one scene in Solo. Yeah, you know which one we are talking about! We give our Pick 3 selections for next week. However, there are a lot of great comics coming out next week. We had a hard time talking about just one book each, so we share some other suggestions for books you should look to pick up on your visit to your LCS next Wednesday. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or by email. We want to hear from you! As always, we are the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! and we hope you enjoy the show. The Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! is proudly sponsored by Clint’s Comics. Come back in time with us to the summer of 2014 when v1.0 of the show starring Cody, Dave, Isaac, and Mike as they talked about the comics they were reading back then. Titles like Marvel's "Elektra" #1 by Haden Blackman and Michael del Mundo, DC/Vertigo's "Bodies" (#1 of 8) by various writer/artist teams, Rick Remender's and Greg Tocchini's "Low" #1 from Image, and "Outcast" #1 by Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta also from Image. Plus in the issue, Jim finally gets the chance to respond to the allegations that he actually paid good money to see the Jennifer Garner "Elektra" film in the theatre... ...okay, he did. But he says why he did that. And actually it makes it kinda worse. Nice work genius. Anyhoo, we hope you like this episode of Graphic Content Flashback, our new series where we look back on the original incarnation of the show from 2014, to see how the industry is still in many ways the same, and how it's completely different in some others. October 10, 2011 Main Topic: Breakups It's rainy and cold in San Francisco, and we're feeling the blues. We talk about that which lays waste to cities and psyches alike- breakups. In our lives, in pop culture and in politics, people break up. It happens. From Ashton and Demi to the two Sudans, we cover what you need to do and how we feel about the biggest musical inspiration since a white-robed carpenter strolled the Earth. Special Guest Haden Blackman An award-winning writer and producer with a track record for creating compelling stories, Fearless Studios co-founder Haden Blackman has developed multi-million unit selling game franchises including Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and the original concept for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, managed multiple game franchises as an executive producer, penned iconic comics such as Batwoman, written the story for a best-selling novel, and authored multiple books for Random House and Del Rey. Blackman has had executive roles in both studio management and game development and has worked in a variety of entertainment industries, giving him the necessary experience as well as creative drive to co-found a new development studio geared toward creating the interactive hits of tomorrow. While working in games, Blackman has continued his freelance writing, penning well over fifty comic books for Dark Horse Comics and other publishers, two non-fiction Star Wars books, and numerous magazine articles and essays. His work has been spotlighted in a wide variety of publications, including Entertainment Weekly, Wizard, Wired, Vanity Fair, Playboy, and countless gaming magazines. Most recently, he began co-writing Batwoman for DC Comics, a new series debuted in September 2011 to high praise from fans and critics alike. A California native, Haden Blackman attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he studied Creative Writing under author Page Stegner and acclaimed poet David Swanger. He graduated with Honors in the Major and College Honors in recognition of his work in screenwriting, fiction, and poetry. An in-demand speaker, Blackman has presented multiple GDC, IGDA, and E3 lectures and panels, and spoken at Stanford University and UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. He received awards for outstanding videogame writing from both the Writers Guild of America and Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences for his work on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and was again nominated for the WGA’s award for The Force Unleashed 2. http://www.hadenblackman.com/ http://fearlessstudios.com/ http://stars.ign.com/objects/142/14279013_biography.html
September 29, 2011 - We’ve got a double Talksplode for you today with 2 bite sized conversations, perfect for your comics podcasting pleasure. First up, Paul Montgomery was granted some time with the creators of Batwoman #1, J.H. Williams III, and W. Haden Blackman. They talk about finally getting this series to the shelves, and what’s in store for Kathy Kane in her new life. The collaborators also touch on their creative process, as Williams is not only artist, but co-writer. Finally, we clear up some questions about Renee Montoya and her status, as well as Agent Chace. Next, Josh Flanagan speaks to Mitch Gerads, an up and coming artist, known for his bombastic colors on Stan Lee’s Starborn. A relative newcomer, Mitch will certainly garner some name recognition when his creator owned series The Activity, written by Nathan Edmondson, debuts in December from Image Comics. Additionally we talk his work on Doctor Whofor IDW, and about what the online community, Twitter, and Mitch’s relationship with ComicTwart have done for him professionally.
